Ivy Arch Hotel Thesis 1 Semester - Spring 2020 Revit, Enscape, Photoshop

Ivy Arch Hotel is located in Melbourne, Australia, right outside the city’s center on the south side of the Yarra River. Biophilic Design is used throughout the hotel to positively affect the guests health and well-being. Inspired by the Evan Walker Bridge, just a couple of blocks away from the hotel’s site, the hotel focuses on the contrast of man-made and natural elements. The layout of the hotel is based off of the Yarra River intersecting the bridge. The contrasting elements are seen throughout the space in numerous ways such as materiality choice, forms, and fixtures.

Restaurant

The full-height atrium allows daylight to flood onto each floor. It offers guests views of the Yarra River regardless of what floor or room they are staying in. The shell of the atrium symbolizes the man-made element of this space, while the materials, furniture selection, and the lighting feature piece provide the natural elements. The feature piece mimics the natural form of the arch from the Evan Walker Bridge and it draws guests eyes throughout the whole atrium.

All the amenities in Ivy Arch exemplify health and wellness elements by movement, socialization, relaxation, etc. Each amenity can be seen through the atrium which encourages guests to use them to better their health. The restaurant is the one amenity open to both the public and hotel guests. It has a fresh and bright atmosphere with a visual connection to the atrium to prompt outside patrons to become future guests at Ivy Arch Hotel. Atrium Section

VT Innovation Center Health And Design Research Center - 7 weeks - Spring 2019 Revit, Photoshop

Located in Roanoke, Virginia, this interdisciplinary health and design research center provides a unique environment for learning, research and innovation for faculty, students and industry partners. Taking inspiration from the graffiti and street art located at the existing site, this VT Innovation Center allows its users to tend to their individuality with the variety of workspaces presented in the building. Collaboration rooms and community spaces are used for more freestyle thinking, similar to the thought process behind graffiti. Touchdown spaces are for more logical work, comparable to street art. The design features murals throughout the space to encourage creative thinking during user’s time spent here.

The layout of the floorplan is based off of street grid lines from the site location which also helped develop the feature staircase. A mix of both the grid lines and inspiration of the forms of graffiti developed the shape of the staircase. The main materials used throughout the space were black metal, brick, concrete, and wood to bring the urban feel to life.

Touchdown Seating

The makerspace is a place where people from any discipline can come create unique pieces of work. It offers a 3D laser printer, woodworking, printing, virtual reality, etc. The feature of this space is the mural on the back wall. One interpretation behind this is that there is always a creative side to someone, you just have to dig a little bit and peel back a layer to get there. Different style conference and collaboration rooms allow for all types of work styles. Whether a group is presenting, researching, or just bouncing ideas off each other, there is a space just for them. Whiteboard panels offer the ability for users to jot down ideas at a moments notice or play with their creative side. This space also offers various types of seating for easy touchdown work. NEXT Hub NEXT Student Design Competition Higher Education Design - Fall 2019 - 7 weeks Revit, Enscape, Photoshop

NEXT Hub, located in the heart of Washington DC, is a small scale extension to NEXT University, the higher education learning institution. This facility serves multiple purposes. It is a meeting place for students enrolled in online courses and a learning center for adults already in the workforce to broaden their knowledge. The inspiration behind NEXT Hub comes from the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. Over 1.5 million people from all over the world come to see these trees bloom. The festival hosts numerous cultural events for everyone to come learn about the history of the beautiful cherry blossoms. This relates to NEXT’s vision of bringing people from all different lifestyles and learning experiences to one central place to grow.

Low Amount of Learning

High Amount of Learning

The layout of the floorplan and ceiling feature relate to the blooming process of the cherry blossoms. There are three main parts; bare branches, budding flowers, and peak bloom. These each resemble the various amounts of learning occurring in a space. The core of the parti diagram represents peak bloom which is where the highest amount of learning takes place. While, the outer layer represents bare branches and less amounts of learning The ceiling feature is made out of perforated felt for a couple reasons. It provides an acoustical solution to the space and also allows light to shine through it, as one would see walking under the cherry blossom trees.

Cute mid-century chair for the client to read

The rug adds pops of color as well as texture

Cane dresser to tie in with headboard

Client Preferred Style: Eclectic, Mid-Century Modern & Bohemian This client wanted to completely refurnish their master bedroom with natural, organic elements. Therefore, wood was the main material used throughout the space. Cane material is used in some pieces to break up the solid wood but still have that natural look the client loves. The area rug adds texture and pops of color, which the pillows pull inspiration from to help carry color throughout the room.

Client Preferred Style: Modern & Mid-Century Modern This client was moving into a new home so we had a clean canvas to work with. She loves the bright modern style and wanted blue accents throughout the space to tie in with her kitchen. We chose to a cool neutral color palette with blue accents. The gallery wall adds dimension and interest to the large back wall. The area rug and throw pillows provide the room with texture and color.

Client’s built-in

Client Preferred Style: Mid-Century Modern & Bohemian This client loves the bright and airy aspects of the midcentury modern style. We created a more cozy and inviting living room for her family and guests. We also re-designed the back area into a space that her children can have as their own. We created a little seating area where they can read/work on their homework. The jute poufs added a pop of natural texture and allow for flexible seating in that area.
