Gothic Revival

Gothic architecture was first seen in the 12th century in modern day England. Medieval Europe was notoriously ornate in it’s architecture, especially in castles and cathedrals.
Prime aspects of the original Gothic style include masonry construction with intricate carvings, strong vertical lines, and tall heights. Both the original and revival styles share many aspects, time period being the main difference.
-Pointed arches on doorways and windows
-Decorative trim/crownwork
-Steeply pitched roof
-Stained glass windows
-One story porch
-Picturesque floor plans
America has countless, more humble interpretations of the Gothic Revival style, all varying in materials and finishes used.
