Within this booklet i have collated a collection of images which i took during my findings in Ney York earlier this year. I have sourced images based around subculture, architecture, and street movements within Manhatten and Brooklyn. All of which i feel have an impact on recent trends for A/W 14.
TREND 1#
WORD UP
SLOGANS/GRAPIC MOTIFS/POP CULTURE/BRANDING Brands such as Mochino and Ashish are a clear representative of this trend as their SS14 collections debut coca cola and Mc Donalds inspired garments.
TREND 2#
MATHMATIC GEOMETRY
This trend can be seen throughout Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs A/W14 collections, both designers have taken the modernist approach to monochrome via angular tailored lines, unexpected layering and knife sharp folds.

WINTER LANDSCAPES
MONOCHROMATIC BACKGROUNDS/SILHOUETTE LEAF PRINTS/SHADOW-OFFSET IMAGERY/POWDER BLUES/METALLICS/UNKEMPT/OUTDOORS/ FANTASTICAL Designer Tracey Reese is a clear example of this trend, her garments for her A/W14 collection all held a dusky wintery essence, mainly within the prints that were used. Trend itself has a mystical symbolism, expressed using rustic fabrics and dreamy scenery.

THE INTUITIVE
This trend celebrates the concept of curating the way that people dress as a personal expression of their creativity. More garments will be styled and constructed to have more of a raw, homemade quality to them. Designers such as Nazir Mazhar have experimented with this trend.

GRAFFITI + SUBCULTURE GRAHIC MOTIFS/DISTRESSED/REBELLIOUS/POP CULTURE/AUTHENTICITY/SLOGANS/SKATE REFERENCES/ DIY A trend heavily inspired by the outsider artist who inspires dense patterns that give up more and more unexpected detail. They create a strangely subverted street-inspired lounge aesthetic which mirrors an unpredictable nature.
