share our boutique style. We love our new neighbours and have been made to feel very welcome. I can highly recommend two places to eat on either side of us on Thistle Street: Hendersonʼs Vegetarian Restaurant is on the corner and Iris just a few doors along from the Spa. Next time you find yourself in town and fancy a bite to eat, both are excellent with friendly staff. Weʼll feature unique offers and an ʻinside guideʼ to our new locale in these editions. I look forward to seeing you very soon, a happy, healthy and successful 2011 to you all!

We all know how it goes.... that one heroic sneezer has soldiered into the office, bringing their dedication - and their germs with them. Before too long, everyone’s going to be feeling flu-ey! While we haven’t found the cure for the common cold (we’ll share as soon as we do) we have got some practical advice that could help boost your immune system and stave off those nasty symptoms. If they’ve got to you already, never fear! Our cold and flu remedies could help put you on the road to recovery quickly!

AAACHOOOO! managing manflu & stopping the sniffles By Lee Noquet

There seems to be no cure in sight for the common cold, but the medical community will never stop trying. This simple ailment makes millions miserable every month, especially during the colder winter weather. The good news is that there are things you can do to reinforce your immune system, staving off infection, or maximising your recovery. In this issue, we look at some traditional, natural remedies to deal with colds and their evil twin : flu.

Immune System Boosting Smoothie: Strong Green Tea (made with 4 bags) 1 Banana 4 oz Yogurt of choice 1 Handful of Blueberries or Strawberries 1 Tablespoon of Whey Protein 1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon of Coconut Oil 1 Tablespoon of Chia Seeds 2 Tablespoons of Oatmeal

Enough green tea to achieve your desired consistency; some people like their smoothies thick while other like it juicier. Blend up the ingredients, it takes no time at all! Each of the ingredients in the smoothie offers you important nutrients so that you can defend against nasty colds and flu.

Fighting back traditional remedies to tackle winter woes

“Garlic has anti-bacterial properties that help the immune system to fight infection”

By Lee Noquet

Juniper Essential Oil: Inhalations of juniper oil are beneficial for relieving congestion in coughs and colds. Add a few drops of the oil to hot boiled water, place your face over the bowl, cover with a towel, and inhale the steam...like in those old movies. Tiger Balm: A little tiger balm rubbed into the chest, behind the ears and just behind the ear lobes is useful anti-viral natural preparation that encourages good respiratory function, warms and soothes the tired, aching muscles often associated with symptoms of colds and flu type virues. A useful travel companion! Garlic: No treatment for colds would be complete without Garlic. This pungent herb was highly esteemed by the ancient Egyptians, who ensured that the slaves building the Great Pyramids at Cheops were given a daily supply. The Romans also acknowledged garlic's strengthening powers and fed it to their soldiers before battle. Garlic has anti-bacterial properties that help the immune system to fight infection, it is an excellent boost to the immune system. The reason for this is garlic contains several helpful compounds, including allicin, one of the plant kingdom's most potent antibiotics.

Garlic combines well with echinacea and together they make a strong fighting force against infections. Onion is a close relative of Garlic and has similar properties, containing similar antiviral chemicals. Use onions and leeks in your cooking when you have a cold or are around people who do. Ginger: is another of nature’s antiviral herbs. It contains nearly a dozen antiviral compounds. Ginger is pain relieving, antiseptic and antioxidant. It is valuable for preventing and treating colds, sore throats and inflammation of mucus membranes. Ginger reduces pain and fever and has a mild sedative

Astrology, Karma & Reincarnation with Audrey Yeardley B.Ed (Hons)

Every so often, in the hurly burly of life, will come the questions: “Who am I?” and “What am I doing here?” In Astrology, a Natal Chart is one way to reveal some of the energy field that you brought with you, in a life that you chose to explore particular experiences. What goes around comes around... Astrology, the afterlife and the idea of reincarnation are central tenets of many cultures and beliefs

effect that will encourage rest. And it is tasty! (with no lingering odours!) Drink a tea, or soak fresh ginger in hot water, take as a tincture and include it in your food. Ginger is also delicious in a fruit smoothy (a mix of soft chilled fruits put in a blender).

And this presupposes that you’ve been here, before-time and again!

Karma is a sticky issue (what goes a round, comes around; we reap what we sow; you get what you deserve etc) but life is a Learning Zone. It’s more about “Being,” rather than “Doing.” Why not give yourself the gift of personal time with astrology expert Audrey Yeardley at OMH Therapies? Quick fixes... you can try at home Sniff a Lemon: For a quick destressing trick, turn to an underrated sense -your sense of smell. Japanese researchers found that linalool; a substance found in lemons, has anti-inflammatory properties and may reduce the flight-or-fight stress response. Other scents like basil, juniper, and lavender have also been found to lower stress.

Laughter: Every time you crack up, increased oxygen courses to your organs, blood flow increases and stress evaporates. In fact, just thinking about having a good laugh is enough to lower your stress hormone levels!!
