2023 saw a surge in individuals seeking assistance at One22 Resource Center. Our community’s hard-working members are facing ongoing challenges like rising housing and food costs, cultural obstacles and financial instability. This increased demand has highlighted the importance of keeping up with the growing need while ensuring the quality and reach of our programs.

At One22, we provide powerful food and financial resources. We also believe in empowering our clients through resource navigation, budgeting and action planning. These tools enable individuals to focus on their financial stability and personal growth. As we tackle the complexities of this work, we also serve as partners, guiding our clients through their unique situations. Together with our neighbors, we strive to move toward lasting stability and growth. With your help in 2023, we have moved along this journey of progress with many accomplishments worth sharing.

OUR PROGRAMS OUR IMPACT IN 2023

Our Programs as Pathways to Progress

When someone steps through our doors, they have the opportunity to sit with a member of our Client Services team and share their story. Together we identify the resources they need to move forward, walk through their budget and come up with an action plan. These pieces of guidance are embedded in all

of our programs. For some, the path takes a lot more twists and turns than for others. That’s what we’re here for. We offer a myriad of services to meet our neighbors where they are at, walking with them as they face emergency situations and also as they work to move ahead.

At One22, we are focused on making a meaningful and lasting impact in Teton County, Wyoming. In this work, we are getting to know our clients better and taking a deep role in supporting them as they find their path toward becoming more stable and empowered.

A New Lease on Life: First/Last/Deposit Assistance Leads Brenda to a Stable Home

After an accident and injury, Brenda lost her job and found herself without a home, living out of her car during the harsh Jackson winter. She first came to One22 in 2023 to access no-cost groceries through the Jackson Cupboard, which provided her with fresh food and helped her make ends meet during a tumultuous time. She tirelessly applied for jobs and eventually secured employment. Brenda was offered a studio in employee housing right away, however she struggled to afford both the first month’s rent and deposit before receiving her first paycheck. After seeing the stability this situation could create for Brenda, our staff encouraged her to apply for First/Last/Deposit assistance for a portion of the move-in costs. With this, One22 was able to provide Brenda with half of the funds to move in, which kept her from the struggles that come with being houseless. She expressed gratitude for this support, stating that it changed her life trajectory and eliminated her worries.

“If there’s an opportunity for someone to get into housing, and One22 can help, it’s life-changing.”

Although Brenda anticipates continued strain on her finances due to upcoming medical visits, she remains determined and ready to plan for the future. She continues to utilize the Jackson Cupboard for additional support and recently participated in One22’s Holiday Gift Drive. The combination of basic needs support and the stability provided by the First/Last/Deposit program is paving the way for Brenda to plan for her future with more time and peace of mind.

Inspiring Change:

How One22’s Rent Support Empowered Edgar to Give Back

Edgar found himself in a particularly difficult period of his life last year. His elderly parents faced health obstacles and he struggled just to support himself. Working multiple part-time jobs took a toll on him and he explored every resource available to transition to a new career. Ultimately, he was able to find a new position while also discovering the work of One22 Resource Center.

Seeking guidance on managing his finances during the job transition and supporting his parents, Edgar reached out to our Client Services team. Initially hesitant to ask for assistance, he realized that rent support from One22 could provide a crucial bridge for him during this tenuous time. We provided him with two months of rent assistance, which made a significant impact on his ability

to keep his apartment. That’s what we’re here for: to walk with our neighbors during times of struggle, and to provide them with a personalized action plan of how to move them forward.

A few months later, Edgar returned to us with a desire to give back. Despite limited resources, he had time and a passion for our food assistance program. He has become a dedicated volunteer at the Jackson Cupboard, stocking our satellite cupboards and packing groceries for clients. This experience has been deeply fulfilling for him, allowing Edgar to witness the positive impact of One22’s work and forge deeper connections with staff and other volunteers. Edgar is grateful that resources like One22 exist to invest back in the people in our community.

Financial Empowerment:

Daniela’s Journey to Stability with One22’s Financial Education Series

Daniela, a receptionist at a local health care clinic, first came to us a few years ago to participate in One22’s Financial Education Series, a three-part course where we dive into managing essential financial basics: budgeting, building credit and reducing debt. The high cost of living in Jackson is a constant factor for Daniela, as she and her partner have two young kids and many expenses to juggle between their daily necessities, monthly rent and a car payment. They diligently pay their bills on time, but Daniela knew that they did not have the financial stability to be prepared for an emergency. That’s what we’re here for: at One22, we work to support individuals and families in times of crisis, but also in times of growth, as they work to build capacity. In the Financial Education Series, she identified expenses in her budget that she was able to cut out and started incrementally setting aside portions of her income toward an emergency fund. This first step in her journey of financial growth led her to learn about Lending Circles (through our partner Mission Asset Fund)—a savings, credit building and financial education vehicle. She joined a circle, and through this social lending practice she and others pooled funds over a span of nine months, encouraging savings to finance participants’ goals, while also strengthening their credit. In this, Daniela is actively

pursuing her goal of increasing her savings and building her credit; she shared,

“Jackson is so expensive, and I know I need to save for the future, so I am working on building that for my kids.”

As part of her job, Daniela also helps doctors communicate with their Spanish-speaking clients. When she heard that One22 was hosting an Interpreter Training course, she enrolled, excited to develop her professional skill set. Daniela stated, “Even if you’re bilingual, interpreting is a big responsibility, and this course gave me professional guidance.” Her ability to expand her skills in her workplace has made a significant impact as she helps community members and their providers effectively communicate. Seeing Daniela move along a pathway of personal, professional and financial growth in her work alongside the One22 team has been inspiring, as the impact she is making in our community is evident.

Empowering Families:

Stacy’s Story of Financial Help and Youth Enrichment with One22

“Juggling work and childcare is extremely expensive, what are we going to do?” This question weighed heavily on Stacy’s mind as she and her husband navigated the demands of balancing three part-time jobs and running a small business, all while raising two children. They know the importance of planning ahead and saving for extra childcare expenses over the summer, when their work demands are even greater. They were led to One22 after hearing about our collaboration with local teams, classes and camps through Youth Enrichment Scholarships.

For the last few summers, both kids have received scholarships to participate in activities and Stacy has shared that this opportunity has meant the world to her family. The change she’s seen in her kids has been incredible, as they have developed new skills and discovered their own taste. Her oldest, Riley, has been able to find direction in trying different camps, from basketball to art and theater. Ultimately, Riley discovered a love for theater and is continuing to pursue this passion through Off Square Theatre Company this summer.

Stacy has expressed how grateful she is for her kids to go to these camps alongside their classmates, seeing them develop important social skills, build confidence and find their community. Without the help of One22 and partner organizations, their family would not have been able to stretch their budget and sign up for these camps. She said, “It helps our whole family feel like we are a part of the community and for my husband and I

to continue working and stepping up. We look forward to the day that we can give back as well.”

Just like many local families, they have had times where they faced unexpected expenses amidst the fluctuations of income that come with the seasonality of life here. During these times, they have turned to us for support, not just for scholarships but also through our School Supply Drive and Holiday Gift Drive. We are here to be that buffer of support for hard-working families in need of a helping hand.

Thank You St. John’s Episcopal Church

For 20+ years, St. John’s Episcopal Church has offered help of all kinds, and housed the programs that made up One22 before, during and after the mergers of our predecessors. With gratitude, we operated amidst their caring community from a generously affordable basement home as we rose to meet the needs of our neighbors. In 2023, after years of searching, we moved into a new program space where our entire staff is working under the same roof for the first time with ample space to meet with clients in person, host workshops and foster stronger relationships. One22’s ability to serve would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the St. John’s community and we look forward to the new iteration of our partnership through the Jackson Cupboard.

Special thanks to CLB Architects, Jason Dunlop, Holland & Hart, Jeffery Johnston, Brett McPeak, Lisa and Scott Pierson and Ariela Schreibeis.

Community Engagement

Community goodwill is incorporated in everything that we do at One22. Beyond our core programs, we are fortunate to take part in various events throughout the year that provide tangible ways for folks to see the impact of One22’s work. Food drives of all sizes throughout the year, school supply drives, holiday gift drives and organization partnerships greatly contribute to the scope of our programming. These projects not

Thank You to the Organizations

only meet critical needs for our clients, but they also raise awareness about issues like food insecurity and housing instability. Between these special projects and our volunteer program at the Jackson Cupboard, One22 is much more than our staff. We are a collaborative collective with a dedicated group of volunteers building a more resilient community.

“As a long time member of the Jackson Hole Community we have felt very blessed to have support from One22 over the years. It truly has helped our children find the things that they enjoy and make them who they are within their community. We could not have done it without One22. We would love to give more but feel it is important when we can give back to those who support us and others in our community.”

A Note from Leadership on One22’s Financial Position

One22 serves as a central point of financial assistance in our community, and in 2020 and 2021 we received generous philanthropic support to meet an outsized challenge to get food, rent and other emergency assistance into the hands of those who needed it.

Based on donor intent during these years of historic crisis, the board of directors created designated funds from

the surplus revenue received in Spring 2020 for food and financial assistance specifically. These funds, alongside gifts to general operating expenses, supported ongoing needs.

In 2022 and 2023, continued need prompted us to spend down surplus funds in order to maintain services as economic challenges facing our clients continued and
