STEERING COMMIT TEE MESSAGE
Dear Colleagues,
July has been a productive month for the UN system in the Caribbean. From improving on policies to hosting forums on developing a more secured region, ensuring that the Caribbean is a safer region by 2030 might appear to be a difficult task but it is a crucial one. Pillar 3 of the Priority Areas speaks to ensuring equitable access to justice, protection and citizen security. In order to achieve a Safe, Cohesive and Just Caribbean, the UN system in the Caribbean has been carrying out and implementing initiatives and various activities.
Gender-Based Violence, crime prevention, migration, refugees and security remain key areas for the Caribbean to address. Insufficient citizen security restricts the people of the Caribbean to live full and productive lives. This has an impact especially on women, youth, children and other vulnerable groups. By conducting capacity building workshops, surveys, developing security programmes and implementing policies, we’re one step closer to achieving a safer Caribbean.
The UN MSDF, which is directly anchored to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aims at bettering the lives of the peoples of the Caribbean. The UN in the Caribbean continues to promote security and rule of law as well as addresses the root causes that perpetuate violence, including attitudes, vulnerabilities and lack of access to justice with our partners. Through the MSDF, the UN will continue to support member states in meeting their international obligations to ensure that all persons can live free from harm within the public and private spheres. As we move towards a more safe, just and cohesive Caribbean, let’s keep in mind that creating an economical and socially secured Caribbean takes effort from us all.
Thank you.

“
Going for the Goals means knowing what the 17 goals are; knowing what your country is doing to achieve them so they become reality by 2030; and focusing on the goals which resonate most with your ambitions and personality, then setting forth a plan to achieve that goal in your personal life, for your community and for your nation.
