STEERING COMMIT TEE MESSAGE

Dear Colleagues, October has been an eventful month for the UN in the Caribbean. In these current times, when climate change has proven itself to be more than just an agenda item in need of marking off, we’re reminded of how dire it is to ensure that no one is left behind and that we operate as one, united region. Providing aid to migrants and refugees, developing and improving current systems to better assist marginalized groups and ensuring that the most vulnerable groups in society are protected in the face of disaster have been only a few of the activities the UN in the Caribbean has been arduously addressing. Promoting social and economic inclusion in an equitable way through decent work opportunities, the promotion of entrepreneurship, and improved social protection continue to be some of the main areas of focus for the UN in the Caribbean as we strive towards fulfilling the MSDF. Considering this, let’s continue to push forward Agenda 2030 by supporting effective policy and legislative reforms, enabling the Caribbean countries to achieve systematic and equitable outcomes, building a national framework for reporting and follow-up, developing expertise, stimulating national dialogue, strengthening human rights-based governance, and identifying good practices. After having recently commemorated United Nations Day, we are reminded of the need to continue to build an inclusive, equitable and prosperous region that we would like to see by 2030. Let’s continue to bear in mind that this also includes actively working towards achieving quality education and life-long learning and improving access to equitable social protection systems. Thank you. 2|
