STEERING COMMIT TEE MESSAGE
Dear Colleagues, This month’s bulletin focuses on the work of the United Nations system in the Caribbean as we and our partners work towards achieving a healthy Caribbean. Achieving the MSDF priority area “A Healthy Caribbean” requires a concerted effort to strengthening the ability of the state to provide universal access to equitable, quality services, and healthy nutrition and to harness the knowledge needed for prevention of disease, including non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Accomplishing this goal means striving towards a Caribbean that is focused on ending the epidemics of malaria, combatting hepatitis and other communicable diseases. This includes aiding in developing laws, policies and systems to support healthy lifestyles of individuals residing in the region. From receiving internationally-recognized awards for fighting deadly diseases and providing accessible, quality health care services to importing life-saving equipment, it’s evident that the UN system has been working diligently with the governments of the region and are making significant strides towards creating a healthy Caribbean. However, the journey to becoming a healthy region remains a long one. It’s important that we recognize that building the Caribbean we want by 2030 not only requires assistance from organizations and partners but it takes a personal commitment from us all.
Thank you.
