Onehunga Coastline Starts To Take Shape Great weather very helpful to the progress over the past few months
The Onehunga coastline has really started to take shape and more than 200 people went along to the Open Day at the Onehunga Waterfront on Sunday 12 May. The Fulton Hogan construction team were at hand to explain the project and answer any questions. The local community has been working for some time to reestablish a connection to the sea, and the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board and the NZ Transport Agency have provided $28 million in funding to make this possible. Many young families attended the Open Day and it was popular with older residents too— some were able to describe what the original bay was like. The project is progressing well and over the coming months you will see:
Footpath closures in Onehunga Bay Reserve for a short period during May Earthworks by the Manukau Cruising Club to form the new park Foundations of the first beaches laid Construction of the southern bridge abutment near the Manukau Cruising Club Construction of another sea bund in the mid-section of Orpheus Drive
The Beautiful Manukau Harbour
