Onehunga Business Winter Promotion Competition runs from mid July to end of August
We are currently putting together a winter promotion for Onehunga businesses to generate foot traffic in Onehunga. At this stage, the promotion will be a competition where if a customer spends $10 they are able to enter the draw to win a trip for two to a tropical island – every business will have an entry box and entry forms. You will need to attach the sales doc to each entry. We are thinking of not doing the Heritage Festival in September this year and instead putting some of the budget towards this promotion – we may have two trips to be won etc. We invite you to get involved in the additional prize draws that include gifts and packages from Onehunga businesses. We welcome partnerships between businesses – perhaps a hair salon could collaborate with a nail bar to offer a special package for example. Businesses that donate gifts and packages will be part of marketing campaign which includes radio. If interested, please call us on 636 8535.
Signage To Prevent Store Theft A professional sign can act as a deterrent
When it comes to apprehending offenders in-store, it’s important to understand what rights you have. Retailers have no legal right to prevent a suspected theft from leaving a store nor can you touch or restrain them—such actions can escalate a situation and increase your own risk. However, you are permitted to impose conditions of entry, like bag checks. Adequately signposted these can act as a deterrent and prevent suspected thieves from returning. The New Zealand Retailers Association has a range of security signs available for use in store. Signs cost $2 each or four for $6(exc. GST). Mystery Shoppers service available through the New Zealand Retailers’ Association Superior customer service, when fully embraced as a philosophy, can have a marked impact on your business. Campaign to create a better connected community Onehunga Family Pharmacy Technician, Navreet Kumar, is embarking on a campaign called ― How are You Mate?‖ to bring neighbours closer together throughout Onehunga. Navreet says he struggled to meet his neighbours but when he did his life improved considerably. Mr Kumar is in discussions with MP Sam Lotu– Iiga and other Onehunga residents about how to progress the campaign. He is also in touch with the mayor’s office and the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board. Onehunga Foreshore Update Trucks bring in earth to create parkland
It's all go at the Onehunga foreshore. The photo shows trucks entering the sea bund in the midsection of Orpheus Drive to bring in bulk fill material to create the parkland behind the beaches. In the foreground, you can see glimpses of the structural base of the beaches. About 30,000 cubic metres of earth, including earth from the Waterview tunnels project, has been placed in the last month. The headlands closest to the Manukau Cruising Club will start taking shape over the next couple of months, as will the structural base beaches in the middle section of Orpheus Drive. Please be aware of the increased traffic around Orpheus Drive, and coming off and on the motorway.
Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board Youth Panel Event Panmure Community Hall, Friday 28 June, 6pm-9pm
The Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board are establishing a youth panel for the area and would like to invite young people aged 12-24 years, to come along and hear from the Local Board about the role and responsibilities of being a panel member and also the nomination process. It will be a fun event with food, spot prizes and performances featuring DJ A1 goodie on the 1’s & 2’s. Gerrard Beeson Carpark Resurfacing Works Please be aware that Downer is resurfacing the Gerrard Beeson car park over two nights : Tuesday 25 June and Wednesday 25 June. You will not be able to park there on those nights but there is parking available on the lower level towards Countdown.
Have your Say on Auckland Transport’s New Network What the proposed changes mean for Onehunga? • A new frequent service between Onehunga, Mangere, Auckland Airport, Papatoetoe Station and Manukau. • Travel from Onehunga to the city will be via services along Manukau Rd (302, 312) or along Queenstown and Pah Roads (301, 309). Levels of service will be similar to what operates currently on these roads. • The 301 service will operate from Mangere (peak-only) and will travel via the motorway and the 309 service will run along Beachcroft Avenue. Both routes will then run along Queenstown and Pah Roads. • People wishing to travel to Mangere can take the 309 via Mangere Bridge (similar to current 305 route) or the Frequent service (30) along Coronation Rd and Bader Dr. • Those wishing to travel further south can make connections to other services at Mangere Town Centre. • All other services in this area will remain the same. It would appear an amputee man is using his disability to coerce people into giving him money at the bus depot. Please be aware that there is a group behind this man who are using the money to buy alcohol or drugs. If you see this man please call Satia on 02 0401 13040. As mentioned last week, let us know if you are interested in purchasing a CCTV security system for your business. If we get a group together we may be able to get a discount. The Crime Prevention Residents Evening last Wednesday attracted more than 50 people to its event despite inclement weather. Some shop fronts are looking very grubby and could do with a good wash down. Bored individuals have been forming graffiti tags with the grime left on building surfaces! Don’t give them the opportunity — clean up your shop fronts. We have captured young people with the CCTV footage tagging some of the alleyways in the mainstreet at night. We are working with Police to identify the culprits. There have been some brutal attacks on people over the past week. Onehunga’s funky new bus shelters The new bus shelters are in use and look great! They have a really cool design on them
with references to Onehunga’s past including the zoo, memorial arch and Sans-Souci tearooms. Let’s hope that the etching-proof glass keep them looking good for a longtime. Also, many people have been taking advantage of the new 380 bus service to the Airport and that overall the service is operating well.
