GHANA VILLA

Richness by naivety, achieving the simplicity by natural, structured and linear elements.

Year : 2017 Location : Accra, Ghana Typology : Private Residence Independent Work : Design, Planning, Rendering and Presentation Tools Used : Revit, Photoshop and Powerpoint

The iconic and grand villa is a vision to compliment the simple yet modern lifestyle of a big political family in Ghana. It is built on a concept of integrating three blocks and staggering them to allow fenestrations for light and ventilation. The form exhibits a structured and sophisticated imagery from outside and offers seamless flow of grand double-height spaces inside. This idea also translated into segregation of spaces within these three block with respect to hierarchy; formal, informal and private spaces. The facade projects both modern as well as earthy characteristics by incorporating exposed concrete finishes with natural wooden panels; the materials that would age gracefully with time.

4

The idea birthed from a simple box geometry.

The geometry is further multiplied to set hierarchy of functions

The central box has been recessed to create an entrance niche.

The form is further articulated to create frames in concrete to allow the flow of air and natural light.

MERCEDES BENZ TOWNSHIP A secluded habitat at foothills of peace and serenity.

Year : 2007 Location : Pune, India Typology : Residential Independent Work : Design, Planning, Presentation and Documentation Tools Used : AutoCad, Sketchup and Powerpoint

The project outlines the proposal of a township for the employees of Mercedes Benz in Hinjewadi, Pune. While respecting the surrounding context of foothills and countering the effect of giant neighboring glass buildings, the proposal envisioned a development with efficiently planned dwellings arranged in a gradually stepped massing in order not to over shadow the context and maximize the hill views for each unit. The typologies are developed with many variations so as to offer a sense of choice to buyers. The project consists of 3 types of Villas, Duplex and 3 variations of Apartment. The retail area is proposed in the proximity of the site entrance with well planned pedestrian connections. The parking requirements have been fulfilled within basements for duplex and apartments which also minimized the vehicular circulation on the site. Activity courts and green buffer have been planned within stepped landscape elements to engage public interaction and activate pedestrian movement.

The school design was inspired from a trinomial cube which has a strong significance with a child’s initial learning phase. The idea was derived using subtractive approach for massing. Firstly, the solid cubes were assigned with functions requiring enclosed spaces. Rest of the mass is subtracted from the main block and transformed into landscape courts, common activities and interactive spaces. The flow of landscape elements and colorful interiors within the overall white form, highlight an amalgamation of nature and thoughtfully carved out built spaces.

The project intends to develop a campus with research, educational and recreational activities for children to help them understand and explore experimental learning experience. It also visualizes schemes that will bridge the gap between traditional education and modern systems. The campus covers the development of 40,000 sqm area with facilities such as workshops, research labs, science cafe, library, digital information forum, auditorium, experimental work stations, cafeteria, and guest houses for scientists and research students. As learning is not limited to enclosed boundaries, open and landscaped spaces are thoughtfully designed to impart a cohesion with nature. The outdoor areas are articulated with a Sun Dial, garden of shadows, Science garden, Amphitheater, self exploratory water feature, Viewing tower, Botanical Garden and Ecology restoration labs which would be open to public and generate revenue to support the research campus. TATA STEEL PORTABLE OFFICE A form that showcases dynamism whilst promoting design and business ideas.

Year : 2009 Location : Pune, India Typology : Office Independent Work : Design, Planning, Presentation and Documentation Tools Used : AutoCad, Sketchup and Powerpoint

The office design started with an attempt to use steel as the construction material with an enhanced structural system and infilling walls so that the building itself becomes a tool to showcase and encourage the use of the product among the customers. The initial idea was derived from simple and efficient Cuboid geometry on a trailer base which was placed eccentrically along the depth of the site as there was limited scope along the width. Further, the form had gone through different phases of modifications for optimization and enhanced with landscape features to activate the site visually. The cuboid geometry was morphed with exposed structural expressions that will give a reflection of “Hovering Honey bee” to compliment the lush green vegetation around the site.

LE MERIDIEN LUXURY RESORT Surrounded with mountains and waterfalls; away from the hustle of city; to connect with nature and oneself.

Year : 2010 Location : Khandala, India Typology : Hospitality Independent Work : Design, Planning, Rendering and Presentation Tools Used : Hand drafting, Hand rendering, Photoshop and Powerpoint

14

The proposal began with the idea to make the best use of this site enclosed with mountains and seasonal waterfall views. The site had a lot of potential to propose a luxury stay for the tourists due to its proximity with the main highway. However, the main challenge was to study the placement of building components and structural systems in order to optimize the use of natural and artificially altered site topography. The site layout was developed by exploring various configurations while studying the levels and angles to the surrounding views. The building blocks were planned with the hierarchy of seclusion and efficient site movement. Modified contours were developed based on natural and cost effective principles to protect the soil while respecting the envisioned landscape design.

POETRY

“A berry of your own tree” I stopped laughing, I forgot, how to cry… As I have become cold n dead, Towards, “response to stimuli”… Deep inside, I can feel the decay… And I know I have been living since long, in this way… My dreams are wiped out, And my desires are tossed, As I was destined to live a life, star-crossed… My senses are poisoned, My thoughts are trapped, And I can feel the cords of agony, with which I’m enwrapped… I can’t express my rage, As my soul has surrendered and is being put into a cage… But… There is a feeling, with which I’m dealing… It’s the only reason for my existence, A spirit of persistence... That, you can’t be so harsh to me, As I’m a berry of your own tree… If my heart will bleed, That’s the end of your creed… And if my soul will cry, Your grace will eventually die… If you wish to stand with dignity, Put me into your arms and pour your serenity… You need to end my relentless plight, So that we both can blossom and shine bright... And stand with a strength to defy, As I just don’t deserve to cry, rather I believe to fly high... So offer your ears, and listen to my plead, Your sustenance is needed for me, to breed... Though my senses are poisoned, But they are not dead, Still, hope has ground and I too feel, Still, inception is taking birth; with a strong belief… That, you can’t be so harsh to me, As……”I’m a berry of your own tree”! - Dedicated to my mother who is shining in the sky as the brightest star.
