Dear friends, supporters, and staff: This past year has been a year like no other, and it is with incredible pride to share the progress and momentum of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County. Although I joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County just 18 months ago, I have never been more certain of the importance and urgency of our mission and of our team’s commitment to fulfilling it. This past year has seen us operate through an unprecedented moment in time, but what gives me hope is our equally unprecedented commitment to responding to the needs of our community. Despite the pandemic’s disruptions, the work across our four key program pillars Education, Character & Leadership, Sports & Recreation and Health & Wellness - has continued to grow and expand. When the county’s schools went virtual in the Fall of 2020 due to the pandemic, many families were faced with the tough decision of either going to work and leave their children home unattended or missing work so that they can supervise their kids. Recognizing the need of the community and delivering to our mission, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County stepped up and opened our doors all day, operating our clubs from 7am – 7pm. We invested in improving our WiFi infrastructure so that children could participate in their online learning without disruption. We invested in staff development and compensation to bring on more talent and provide improved pay and benefits to our team. We invested in 3rd party sanitization services and supplies to minimize and mitigate risk for our club members and staff while adhering to CDC guidelines and recommendations. We were able to provide a safe place where kids could do their virtual schooling while having adult supervision, meals and peer engagement. Our Virtual Resource Centers were vital in ensuring that our club members’ education goals were on track throughout the pandemic. We were able to keep our club members engaged when so many other youth-serving organizations were operating at reduced capacity and hours. It’s a real tribute to the expertise and experience of the entire Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County team.

From a financial perspective, the pandemic did pose some challenges for our organization this past year. We saw an increase in per child costs - due to our investment in staff, supplies and services – yet we did not pass these costs on to our club members. Our largest and most well-attended fundraiser, our annual Chrysalis Gala, was held as a virtual event in 2020. Though it was not as successful in raising funds as our live in-person events from previous years, we were incredibly pleased and humbled by the outpouring of community support for this event which raised close to $400,000 for our club operations.

LETTER FROM OUR CEO

This past year, we were able to add another chartered club to our service area. Partnering with the Princeton ISD, the Princeton Boys & Girls Club at Smith Elementary opened providing vital after-school programming and support to the youth in the Princeton area. We are currently serving over 150 school-aged children at our Princeton location and will be looking to expand even more in the upcoming year.

Over the past year, we have made a concerted effort to diversify revenue streams, improve our individual donor base and secure more support from new philanthropic corporate partners. We have improved our financial sustainability dramatically, by renegotiating service contracts, removing redundancies of services and ‘doing more with less.’ I am incredibly pleased by the progress we have made in improving our financial sustainability and investing in infrastructure improvements and getting closer to realizing our dream of establishing our first endowment for the organization. For more than 53 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County has played a critical role in the development and advancement of families, and in the future of the community we serve. With the help of donors who transform passion into impact, we are united around a common mission designed to enable and empower all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We are mindful that every dollar we receive represents the dream and an investment of a donor to strengthen the community. While the needs and the incredible potential of our county’s youth have never been greater, every day we see the impact of our donors’ generosity and investments. To our donors, corporate and government partners, volunteers, and others who have let us share in their generosity, and on behalf of our dedicated Board, I offer my heartfelt appreciation. Thank you for inspiring us and for joining in helping us build a better tomorrow by investing in the youth of Collin County today. With sincere gratitude,

Marianne Radley Chief Executive Officer

ABOUT US Founded in 1968, BGCCC has a 53-year history of creating great futures in North Texas. Strategically located in low-income neighborhoods, BGCCC provides a safe, positive environment during the most vulnerable hours of a youth’s day: the after-school hours. We convert these hours into time that helps youth reach their full potential. BGCCC’s four clubs serve youth aged 5 - 18 in Frisco, Plano, McKinney and outlying areas including a newly launched site at Smith Elementary in Princeton. As the largest youth-serving organization in Collin County, excluding school districts, we currently provide more than 2,000 youth a safe place to learn and grow into productive, responsible, and caring citizens. They are offered an affordable, safe and nurturing environment and are supported with a variety of programs and activities that assist in their educational, emotional, physical and social development. We never turn away a young person in need. Membership fees for programming and transportation are provided on scholarship if necessary. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, our Clubs continue to grow and reach more youth more often every year- youth who are our future. OUR 2021 GOALS Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County is committed to serving more youth and making a greater impact in the community by focusing on the following goals: • Serve More Kids More Often • Be Financially Sustainable • Increase Program Quality and Effectiveness • Build Diverse & Effective Leaders • Ensure a Positive, Safe Culture • Increase Brand Awareness & Community Engagement

WHAT DOES THE CLUB MEAN TO ME?

“ “

My daughter participated in the Academic Success program at the Club, she was struggling with math and I didn’t know how to help her. Since then she has developed a love for learning, she has excelled and gained confidence in her capabilities. She has improved one letter grades in math and in reading in less than two months.” – Parent of Club Member

As a young child I was exposed to all the negative things you can imagine, including drugs, domestic abuse etc... I remember hearing family members say I feel sorry for her but it runs in the family. I did not know what that meant until I turned 13. Well my club had a different direction for me and through my Healthy Habits/SMART Girls program I learned skills that has helped me to be proud to say I have never had the desire to destroy my life. They showed me how to stand, how to eat right, how to properly stay physically active, how read labels for nutritional facts and they showed me the ramifications and destruction that drugs and negative behaviors can have on my life.” – Amber, Club Alumni

My Club has been instrumental in my development and progression into adulthood, it gave me my first job, taught me about banking and saving, introduce me to my first college experience and helped me to secure scholarships. Without my club I don’t know if I would have graduated college and working my dream job.” – Colton, Club Alumni

PROGRAMS Our innovative programs are designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives. Each Club operates 15-20 programs utilizing proven and nationally recognized programs in five Core Program Areas that closely align with the developmental needs of all young people: • The Arts • Education • Health & Wellness • Leadership & Service • Sports & Recreation When programs are executed to the best of their ability, they create a Club Experience that enables youth to achieve positive outcomes in three priority areas: • Academic Success • Good Character and Citizenship • Healthy Lifestyles Together, BGCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County follow the Formula for Impact – our roadmap for ensuring that young people have a positive, impactful Club Experience and, ultimately, achieve the important outcomes that lead them to great futures. Our programs are designed to encourage Club members to realize a wide variety of positive outcomes, a strategy for developing the “whole child.” IMPACTING AREA YOUTH THROUGH

These comprehensive programs enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to archive success in a career. Project Learn Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school during the hours they spend at the Club. This comprehensive program strategy is based on research showing that students do much better in school when they spend their non-school hours engaged in fun, but academically beneficial, activities. PowerHour helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13-18 by building their basic money management skills. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest.

PROGRAMS

ACADEMIC SUCCESS

DIY Stem Do It Yourself (or DIY) STEaM is an activitybased program that brings scientific principles to life. The program uses items commonly found in the Club, or can be easily procured, to introduce Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical (STEaM) concepts to youth. DIY STEM is a program that can be implemented in its entirety or as separate units depending on the needs and interests of various Club kids. Workforce Development Initiative capitalizes on existing job skills and career development programs to create and implement a robust local workforce development program for youth. The program will prepare teens to enter the workforce while engaging local employers as they get ready for the next generation of employees.

PROGRAMS

GOOD CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

We empower youth to support and influence their Club and community while developing relationships, setting a positive self-image and having respect for cultural differences.

Every day at the Club, we provide nutritious snacks, engaging fitness activities, and competitive sport leagues to get Club members excited about leading healthy lifestyles.

Keystone Clubs provide leadership development opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18. Youth participate in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to have a positive impact on members, the Club and community.

Triple Play is a comprehensive health and wellness program. It strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing daily physical activity, teaching them about good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group character and leadership clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Torch Club members elect officers and work together to implement projects in the four focus areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation. Youth of the Year is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.

10

Passport to Manhood teaches responsibility to boys ages 11 to 14 with sessions that focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities. SMART Girls provides health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement for girls ages 8 to 17. SMART Moves SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity.

IN 2019... TRANSPORTATION FLEET UPDATE Our Clubs received a much-needed update to our transportation fleet with two Toyota Sienna Vans donated by Toyota in 2019. In 2020, we added three large new buses thanks to support from The Kiwanis Club of McKinney, Town & Country Roofing and Toyota. These vehicles help us transport more youth to our Clubs.

CHRYSALIS BALL 2019 Chrysalis Ball, “We are the Champions”, was a huge success. A BIG thank you to all of the underwriters, sponsors, and supporters. This year, we were able to generate our highest number of donations to date resulting in over $730,000 in net income. With over 950 corporate and individual attendees and volunteers made this a memorable evening with their philanthropic passion for the mission of the clubs. Because of your support we had one of most successful events in the history of the clubs and you have positively impacted the lives of the thousands of For Building Great Futures youth we serve. VIRTUAL CAREER FAIR Old Navy store employees partnered with BGCCC to engage teen members into the world of work. The partnership enabled BGCCC to provide a wonderful opportunity and resource for its teen members in a virtual setting. Activities within the program included: career exploration, mock individual & group interviews, and virtual store tours. Upon completion of the virtual career fair, teens had the opportunity to interview for jobs with Old Navy and applied for scholarships and incentives.

2020 YEAR IN REVIEW

IN 2020...

VIRTUAL CHRYSALIS BALL For the first time in history, our 2020 Chrysalis Ball went virtual. The theme of this year’s Chrysalis Ball was “It’s a Beautiful Day in our Neighborhood,” highlighting the resilience of the Clubs during these unprecedented times and serving as a reminder that it takes kindness, love and unity to end divisiveness and make our communities stronger than ever. Because of the continued generosity of our underwriters, sponsors and supporters, we were able to raise $370,000 in net funds. The virtual gala featured the sounds of Grammy AwardWinning country music trio Lady A.

GRATITUDE FOR THE COLLIN CLASSIC The Collin Classic Bike Rally has been a staple event for over 28 years in the Collin County area. BGCCC had the great opportunity to host this event for the last three years. Due to the rising cost of the outside support services, BGCCC has decided not to continue with operating the Collin Classic Bike event. BGCCC is grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this legacy for the last few years that has made an impact on the programs we support. This can only have been possible with generosity and support from our community. We want to thank the cycling community for their in-kind support of making this a safe family event.
