LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

We’re back with our Fall issue of On Point Magazine! Our first issue of the year is super exciting for us- with the theme of “falling into a better you.” Fall is all about starting the year off right, and putting in the effort to work on yourself inside & out. With our new website launched, we feature new articles every week in fashion, lifestyle and entertainment. Back to the issue however, we were incredibly excited to partner with Bevello, a national contemporary women’s fashion boutique for our fall fashion article. Did you know that the company started in Raleigh, North Carolina? Let’s just say you’ll find all the inspiration you need in just a few pages. Every outfit featured a specific trend. We divided the looks between bohemian and city chic, featuring suede, velvet, jumpsuits, and chunky knits. While our fall fashion was a big focus for us as a team, every inch of this issue was devoted to empowerment and self-improvement. From skin care, to what you need to listen to this month, we’ve got you covered. XO,

Fall Fashion

JUMPSUITS FOREVER? I THINK YES.

This black jumpsuit that Amanda is wearing is a closet staple this fall. It’s simple but so classy and could be worn for just about any occasion. The cut off length is so in right now and gives you the opportunity to showcase the perfect pair of shoes! The silver slip dress that Haley is wearing is such a beautiful, easy was to take your slip dress look to the next level. The silver color of this satiny fabric is seriously so flattering and fun to bring your slip dress look up a notch.

MIXING TEXTURES & TONES COULD NOT BE MORE “COOL GIRL”

The beautiful mix of velvet and satin here makes for a beautiful combo, and the colors/patterns do NOT go unnoticed! This green is to die for and the floral pattern on top of the black makes it so easy to take your summer go-to into this fall season. Gina matches this tank and bomber jacket with dark wash jeans and a sleek black bootie. Simple silver jewelry tops it all off.

The silhouette of this bevello best-seller means it can be worn as a day or a nighttime look. Dress it up or down with the right accessories and you’re sure to have a perfect fall look. Not to mention that this color and suede fabric is SO IN this season. SWEATER WEATHER

THE COZY ESSENTIAL

Haley: Julia Billiart Long Sleeve Lightweight Sweater over a Z Supply Sleek Jersey Pocket Tee, and topped off with the bevello Zed Scarf. This look is completely full of neutrals- black, gray, white. BUT- it is not lacking anything in any sense. These simple pieces come together to create a put together, easy fall look. Perfect for throwing on before an early morning class. Scarves really do make every outfit better! Haley pairs this sweater/tee combo with the camo scarf and ripped-knee black jeans. Simple, chic, On Point.

Amanda: BB Dakota Gracelyn Jacket layered over a Beau Tissu Choker Double Layer Tank.

This look is ALL about layers. Layers are a go-to this season, ESPECIALLY in the South where chilly mornings can turn into 80Âş afternoons. Pairing these two simple, chic pieces with a pair of dark wash jeans gives you an effortless yet flawless fall look. Amanda layers up with this tank/jacket combo and adds a pair of dark wash jeans as well as tan booties and gold accent jewelry to complete her perfect fall look.

Caroline: BB Dakota Tegan Off Shoulder Sweater & Joe’s jeans SWEATER WEATHER IS ALMOST HERE! My absolute favorite time of the year. Cozy sweaters can look so put together and fashion forward when paired with just a simple jean and a cute pair of boots. This simple sweater look takes minimal effort but has huge reward (of fashion points, obviously.) Caroline pairs this gorgeous sweater with a pair of dark wash jeans and gold hoop earrings to top off this fun, fall look.

TEXTURED ACCENTS

Velvet accents and texture mixing was a common theme in bevello’s trend presentation. Deep colored velvet shades played a pivotal role in style presentations- the below velvet scarf is an incredible example of featured texture mixing. Suede is making a comeback again this Fall season- but particularly in the outerwear sectors. Mixing textures between suede, knits, and denim was another popular style depicted throughout the event. BEAUTY

FEEL GOOD IN FRESH SKIN // A DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

When it comes to keeping your skin healthy, it’s important to have a consistent skincare routine every morning and night. By CYDNEY WEBB

THE RUN DOWN

MORNING:

1. Start by splashing the face with cold water. This reduces puffiness in the face and eyes.

2. Wash face with warm water to open up your pores. A great daily cleanser that is

inexpensive and effective is Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, a common drugstore go-to. 3. Apply toner with a cotton pad to even out the skintone/minimize any redness. My favorite is Caudalie’s Hydrating Toner. 4. Apply a drop of serum with fingertips and spread across the face to give your skin highly active nutrients that penetrate deep into pores. 5. Lastly, apply a moisturizer of your choice that will suit your skin type and its needs. My pick is Caudalie’s Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, $16 (Dermstore.com), Caudalie’s Hydrating Toner $28 (Sephora.com), Korres Wild Rose Face and Eye Serum $48 (Sephora.com), Caudalie’s Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet $39 (Sephora.com)

BEFORE BED:

Using products that will hydrate your skin before applying makeup is crucial for locking everything in place. Just as important, washing your face at night and applying a serum cleanses the daily toxins that clog your pores and delivers nutrients that penetrate deep into the skin to keep it damage-free. With the start of a new school year, getting adjusted to classes and trying to find a balance between everything can be stressful and overwhelming. Stress-induced breakouts are no one’s favorite, so here’s a go-to skincare routine that will keep you looking fresh and healthy.

1. Start with a makeup remover wipe, if you have heavy makeup on from that day

Ora Microneedle Face Roller System- improves the tone and texture of your skin ($19.99, Dermstore.com) // Slip Queen Pure Silk Pillowcase- provides anti-aging benefits and reduces skin and hair friction ($79, Dermstore.com)

16.

or night, especially on the eyes. Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes can be found at any common drugstore and don’t leave an oily residue like some wipes do. 2. Wash face with warm water and a cleanser. If you’re looking for a stronger cleanser to really get rid of the dirt that builds up on your face throughout the day, I suggest Estee Lauder’s Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask. 3. Again, apply the same toner you use in the morning with a cotton pad. 4. Apply a drop of serum with fingertips. It can be the same serum you use in the morning, or you can opt to use a night serum that works best seeping into the skin overnight. An awesome anti-aging night repair serum is OLEHENRIKSEN’S Invigorating Night Transformation Gel. 5. Lastly, lock in overnight moisture using a moisturizer of your choice, depending on your skin concerns. An inexpensive option that works great is CeraVe’s Facial Moisturizing Lotion-P.M. bought at any common drugstore.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes $6.99 (Target), Estee Lauder’s Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask $28.00 (Sephora.com), OLEHENRIKSEN’S Invigorating Night Transformation Gel $48.00 (Sephora.com), CeraVe’s Facial Moisturizing Lotion-P.M $10.84 (Rite-Aid)

#GIRLBOSS(ES) BY Livy Beaner

What does it mean to be a “girl boss”? According to Urban Dictionary, she is “a woman in control, taking charge of her own circumstances in work & life. Someone who knows her worth and won’t accept anything less.” According to Sophia Amoruso a girl boss is “someone who is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it. As a #GIRLBOSS, you take control and accept responsibility. You’re a fighter—you know when to throw punches and when to roll with them…”. The entertainment industry is full of powerful women. In the music industry, we have powerhouse Demi Lovato. With six full-length studio albums and several three times platinum songs at the age of 25, Demi has certainly risen to the title of a girl boss. Demi released her sixth studio album on September 29th and has certainly come a long way from her star struck Disney Channel Camp Rock days. Her album has personally become a soundtrack to my life and certainly makes me walk with my head a little higher. Pairing with Kate Hudson in her Fabletics online workout clothing company, Demi has released her second limited edition line. She is inspiring a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally. She sought out to create workout clothes that she would feel confident wearing, clothes that were young and edgy, just like Demi. The same day as Demi’s album release, Miley Cyrus released the latest version of herself. “Younger Now” is a brand new Miley Cyrus. It is an album full of reflections of earlier times and personal ballads. With Miley searching for her roots, we see a side of her that seemed to have been lost. But when she founded The Happy Hippie Foundation that helps provide shelter homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations with consistent support services, education and employment opportunities, she found her muse in those people. Miley single handedly launched this nonprofit organization several years ago and has raised funds for Manchester, Hurricane Harvey victims, and Syrian refugees. She has also teamed up with brands such as Converse to create awareness and spread the love. Miley believes in the power of today’s youth and their ability to make a difference today and when they grow up into the new leaders of America. Sophia Bush, or as you may know her Brooke Davis, is another woman changing the media. Sophia played B. Davis for nearly 10 years on popular teen drama One Tree Hill. Her character created a fashion empire and campaigned for body positivity, sending a message to the young women of America in the age of Photoshop and unattainable beauty standards. Recently Sophia played Detective Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D., a badass woman who would stop at nothing (not even gender roles) to find the truth and prove herself. While it was recently confirmed that Sophia will be leaving the show, her character will likely be departing due to a promotion to the FBI in New York City, another on screen portrayal of girl bosses in the real world. Sophia Bush also cannot be ignored online. She takes to Twitter to share how she feels and she has held little back. With 1.3 million followers (myself being one of them), Sophia has used social media to encourage girls and women and people all across the world to fight for what they believe in. Making personal donations to victims of natural disasters and violence, she has been a personal advocate for those who cannot help themselves. Being a #GIRLBOSS isn’t about selling millions of albums or being an A-List actress. It’s about standing up for what you believe. It isn’t about how old you are or who you are. It’s about being confident and empowering those around you.

KATHY IRELAND REACHES NEW HEIGHTS

Stepping off a Gulfstream jet, Kathy Ireland was welcomed by a hoard of photographers and fans at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro this past week. The supermodel turned supermogul exuded warmth and kindness as she signed autographs and welcomed fan photos. The richest model in the world left Greensboro in an RV followed by a fleet of SUVs to tour her showroom for the start of her week at High Point Market. Kathy Ireland started modeling when she was just 16 years old. She appeared in 13 consecutive Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions and maintains the cover model title of best-selling issue of all time. In 1993, Kathy Ireland placed her name on a line of socks and sold over 100 million pairs. Receiving Kmart’s attention, her name was added to clothing, swimwear, accessories and more. With substantial licensing success, kathy ireland® Worldwide was established making Ireland one of the most successful women in the US selling over $2.6 billion of retail merchandise per year according to Forbes. Her designer products including furniture, intimate wear, handbags and more can be found online at Amazon.com. Home furnishing is nothing new to Ireland’s repertoire. Her latest collection, Michael Amini® | kathy ireland® Home Designs, was by far the most visually incredible showroom at High Point Market this year. Known for his luxurious designs and signature style fit for a king, uber-stylish Michael Amini paired up with Kathy Ireland to create the perfect formula of affordable luxury to capture the next generation of furniture shoppers. “When [Millennials] get a house,” Ireland said, “they not only want a beautiful product and great quality, they want to know how it’s made, what’s going on behind the scenes, [and] how it impacts the environment.” Ireland is trailblazing through other industries as well. Just recently, Level Brands, headquartered in Charlotte and led by CEO Martin Sumichrast who accompanied Ireland to High Point Market this year, announced that Ireland would become the first female Chairman Emeritus to launch a Regulation A+ IPO. Level Brands creates bold, unconventional and socially responsible branding for leading businesses, something that falls in line with Ireland’s mission. A brand partner, Beauty & Pin-Ups, was the first company to feature a person with down syndrome as the face of their beauty industry. Ireland supported this disruptive brand by showcasing her signature locks styled with Beauty and Pin-Ups’ products all weekend at High Point Market. Level Brands also recently added the world-renowned artist Romero Britto to their portfolio under EE1, a corporate brand management and producer of experiential entertainment events and products. Romero’s latest pop-art statement piece, Kathy Ireland®, was premiered at High Point Market in the Amini-Ireland showroom. The reveal captured plenty of press and attention, including students in attendance from High Point University, on Friday’s Kathy Ireland® Day as High Point Mayor Bill Bencini presented Ireland with a Key to the City and proclamation. Britto’s painting and the Key to High Point City were not the only things sparkling in Kathy Ireland’s showroom. During High Point Market, Ireland wore over $30 million dollars in jewels from her lines Kathleen Marie Paul Raps New York and Diamonds by kathy ireland® as well as from private gifts never seen before from Elizabeth Taylor. Ireland typically shies away from the spotlight when wearing her private collection. However, this year at Market she opened all of the trunks for this major launch, which dazzled audiences with jewels that broke records at Christie’s Auction House. One of her largest pieces was a monumental 32 carat diamond ring, which was a guest showstopper all week.

Daniel Medici 29.

Elizabeth Taylor also gifted Ireland her 1992 Oscar, which adorned one of the bureaus in the Amini-Ireland showroom on the 8th floor of the IHFC building. Taylor won this award for her humanitarian efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Following in her footsteps, on December 1st, World AIDS Day, Ireland will be donating the first $100,000 of an ongoing commitment to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. “Elizabeth challenged us to bring about the help of doctors, humanitarians and God, a generation free of HIV/AIDS. We cannot let Elizabeth down. It will happen, said Ireland. An incredible brand marketer and humanitarian, Ireland is certainly living up to her promise to serve others by making this world a more beautiful place.

ON POINT DORM ROOM name: Bella sirpilla Grade: sophomore talents: killing the dorm game

A

t the start of the school year, our team decided to have a dorm contest in search of the perfect dorm to be featured in our fall issue. After countless entries, we narrowed our search done, and came to the conclusion that Bella’s dorm was definitely ON POINT. What caught our attention was her faux wood paneled wall. She seriously put in all the effort. The mixture of pattern and textures in her bedding gave us major Anthropologie vibes. Most importantly, she personalized her space with a stunning gallery wall above her bed. It features a little bit of everything from a quote, to a cutout of her home state, to a marquee. While the room is pretty neutral there are pops of pink, blue and orange. We can’t wait to see how she styles her room next year!
