hat’s right, it’s that time of year again: back to school! Whether or not you were happy with your routine last year, chances are some things may have to change-- be confident that change leads to growth! With schedules that create havoc in our lives, it’s not always easy to be your ‘best self ’ during your first academic semester. This is why it is crucial to plan ahead! Here are some tips in formulating a routine that will keep you happy, healthy, and ‘On Point’!
Summer On Point | 11
Assess Your Schedule and Commitments For This Upcoming Semester. Try to find gaps in your schedule that would allow time for a quick gym session, meal prep, or zen time. A thirty minute workout can be just as beneficial as hours at the gym if you plan your workouts before going. By knowing and familiarizing yourself with the goals you want to accomplish that day, you’re bound to increase productivity. Meal prep can be as simple as making a healthy salad with ingredients from your fridge. This way you won’t be tempted to get something convenient but not-so-good for you later on! Never underestimate the power of a half hour of ‘chill’….. We all need breaks sometimes and taking that little bit of ~me~ time can go a long way. Just make sure to have a productive me time. Really try to regain a sense of self and serenity.
You academic classes and career goals may be your top priority. If this is the case, carve out time during your day- whether it be an hour before bed or first thing when you wake up- to write out some small accomplishments you want to fulfill that day. Seeing these small missions written out reinforces our goal-getting self to stay motivated. There’s something very empowering about being able to check off completed tasks after a long day, it keeps us keeping on! Know Your Weaknesses

Know Your Priorities
Never underestimate the power of a half hour of ‘chill’...
Struggled to maintain a balanced relationship between your social life and academic priorities in the past? Took too much time stressing over things rather than actually doing? Know what you need to work on this year and be honest with yourself! One of the hardest yet most rewarding things we can do for ourselves is admit what we could use improvement on. Once you know your weaknesses and accept them, you will be able to change them. Sacrifice is a part of becoming the best version of yourself and in the end, your hard work will be rewarded! So go out there and have a great semester!

e all know how the song goes: “it’s fantastic”. Is it this really the case? Take the plastic fork you used at lunch, for example- it needed massive amounts of oil to be produced, then packaged and shipped. You use the utensil it for maybe twenty minutes. After that, it goes in the trash and remains on earth forever. Barbie has inspired young women for decades when it comes to what it means to be confident, love ourselves, and put our best foot forward – but let’s not forget that we shouldn’t always agree with everything she says. Life in plastic, is definitely not fantastic. Moschino’s 2017 Milan Fashion Week collection was inspired by thrownaway plastic bags, tissues, and cardboard boxes.

The average American creates about 4.5 to 5 pounds of trash, per person, per day. This isn’t anything to feel guilty about- we live in a throw away culture. But our environment is in trouble, and our resources are depleting fast. Zero waste is about taking steps to live on a planet we are okay with leaving behind for our children and future generations to come.
There are dozens of easy ways to reduce your waste. Here are some zero waste swaps or steps you can take, right now, that cost little to no money. I have a pretty simple, but strict rule I give myself to follow in the mornings. If you’re anything like me, iced coffee (with coconut milk, unsweetened please) – is my kryptonite. But if I don’t have my metal tumbler, I don’t deserve coffee. Chances are you probably have reusable water bottles and coffee mugs in your kitchen right now. Throw them in your bag, use them, and feel good about how many resources you are saving from the landfill. Establishments like Whole Foods and Starbucks even run discounts for those who bring their own bags or mugs. Or, if you are really committed to good mornings, just make your coffee at home. Coffee tastes that much better out of the “I love you a latte” mug your best friend bought for you all those years ago. Summer On Point | 15
Efforts to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Don’t take unnecessary freebies. Free stuff is cool, but clutter is not. Free up your space and don’t take the extra t-shirt or pen if you already have a ton and know won’t use it. Our homes are our sanctuaries, and they should only be filled with the things we love and use- not a bunch of garbage we would rather do without. Go thrifting or do a clothing swap. Buying clothing new, especially from fast-fashion brands, can be wasteful and put money into an exploitative industry. Keep clothes out of the waste stream and money in your wallet by opting to buy used or swapping clothes you don’t want any more with your friends. It’s a cheap way to get a wardrobe update, score distinctive pieces, and no new resources are used in the process. It’s a win-win! Try hitting up a vintage store with your friends and see who can make the most eclectic outfits from your unique finds. That’s a challenge.` 16 | On Point Summer
Simplify your beauty routine & only replace items when they run out. Simplify your cabinets and beauty routine by only stocking up on what you need, when you need it. You never know what is essential to purchase if you never let yourself run out of it. Or, maybe forgo a product in your routine all together. Instead of watching the money from your wallet disappear, you can watch your mornings simplify and insecurities go out the door. Goodbye ridiculous skincare regimen. Hello clear skin, clean bathroom counters, and a full piggy bank!
Gary Harvey is one of many designers that are choosing to go eco-friendly by repurposing newspaper, trench coats, and denim and transform them into stylish vintage ball gowns.
Take things to the next step by assessing what waste you create in the bathroom- maybe swap out your shampoo and conditioner for solid alternatives. Invest in an electric or 100% recyclable safety razor.

Just say no (thank you).
Sophia Brown
It’s like exercising a muscle. The only way to ensure progress is to live by it. Learn to say “no, thank you” when offered a straw or a single-use piece of cutlery. Remember that any small change is a win for everybody. It doesn’t happen overnight. Put yourself up to the challenge and start small. Can you go an entire day without making trash? Can you commit to keeping reusable bags in your car and taking your keep cup to Starbucks on those early Monday mornings?

Take a Peek at My Purse Essentials

Returning to school is always an exciting, yet overwhelming time. With adjusting to a new schedule, a new room, and recruitment in full force, I’m always on-the-go. One thing I can’t live without are my staple beauty products and coveted essentials found right in my purse. Once I’m out the door, I like to have everything I need to look and feel fresh as I go from classes to meetings. Here’s a look inside at what I’m currently storing in my purse:
5 6 7 8
Young Living Peppermit Essential Oiil- Peppermint is known to ease the difestive system, so I carry this essential oil around and apply it topically when my stomach tends to feel less than ideal.
NEST Eau de Parfum Rollerball in Wisteria Blue- I’m a rollerball queen when it comes to perfum. They’re more practical than having a number of big perfum bottles because I can take them with me wherever I go- day or night. I love the scent because its florally and fresh without dominating a room.
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light- My hands are always getting super dry and I’m (sadly) guilty of picking my cuticles, so I love carrying Josie Maran’s Argan Oil around. Not only do I use it as a hand oil, but it repairs split ends and works wonders as a face moisturizer since it’s packed with Vitamin E- definitely a beauty staple to invest in!
Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm in Holographic Pink- This lip balm serves as my lip moisturizer, shimmer, and color all in one. The creamy texture glides on perfectly like a lip balm, but it contains a holographic shimmer that adds the perfect pop of color and shine to my lips.
NARS Mini Blush in Orgasm- The first thing I’ll turn to for some color in my complextion is blush (instead of bronzer). Putting a dabble on my cheeks instatly makes my look more alive and less tired throughout the day, so I carry around a mini NARS blush in Orgasm- the universally flattering shade.
Bonnie Clyde Sunglasses in Styl eFiguerua III discovered this eyewear brand at Nordstrom and fell in love with their trend-forward frames. Everyone needs a versatile pair of sunnies in their bag that will make any outfit look chic and polished.
Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth Infusing Brightening Serum+Concealer- This double-ended concealer stick touches up blemishes and covers any darkness under my eyes as the day goes by. One side is cream based while the other is a brightening liquid base. I swip both on and blend with my fingers for a quick fix!
Planner by Plum Paper- I absolutely love this planner because it’s customizable with endless opportunities to amke your life organized the way you want it to be. I carry it around for quick note-taking as well as writing to-do lists and keeping track of assignments.

ost well known for cultivating a brand who tested the capacities of mainstream fashion and women in principle is said to what has made Versace’s line so popular. Many also argue that Versace made an ‘80s glamour’ style timeless; a tricky task to accomplish. Versace has had an eventful year. We begin in January with the release of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, giving background to the brand’s story and the tragic downfall of pioneering designer Gianni Versace. The Met Gala’s theme for its annual May celebrity hotspot was shortly thereafter announced, paying lineage to the relationship between fashion and biblical motifs.

Gianni Versace, raised in a small town in Italy, was raised Roman Catholic and proud of his culture. The last line released before his passing in the summer of 1997 incorporated several examples of biblical references closely resembling art dating to the byzantine era.
Donatella, current Creative Director of the Versace brand and Gianni’s beloved sister, honored the founder’s closing line under his leadership by dressing today’s most notable celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Cindy Crawford, and Zendaya- to name a few at the Met hosted Gala. You ask why is Versace trending? They constructed their year to dominate the spotlight as seen by the consumer. As 2017 honored Gianni’s twenty year anniversary of his death with an inspiring runway show featuring Gianni’s favorite models and muses, the brand has continued to see tremendous growth. They have proved to stay true to their niche in luxury & brand tradition while still pushing for relevance in the eyes of the millennial customer. I foresee gold in Fall’s future.

ANNA WINTOUR A SNEAKERHEAD?
C
ollaborations have quickly developed into a trend-forward and exclusive fashion market over recent years. We have seen some of the most unanticipated and unique creations released from brands through their collaborations with outside retail power houses. Anna Wintour, Editor-In-Chief of Vogue, has unexpectedly teamed up with the Jordan brand to create reimagined versions of the classic Air Jordan. The first of the Vogue x Jordan line dropped July 21st, featuring a zip-up tongue on the facade of the shoe; available in cherry red and off-white. The second release is set for September, and pays homage to Wintour’s beloved tweed suits- styles available in red and black. All four of the sneakers include the phrase “AWOK” located on the soles, which is Anna Wintour’s official sign off on magazine pages deemed Vogue-worthy.
So let it be known- if there were any past doubts of sneakers not being fashion-forward, this new collaboration should convince you otherwise. Each pair retails for a reasonable $220, but will not be easy to get your hands on. The first release proved to sell through quite fast, so nothing different should be expected in the upcoming second release. These exclusive and limited items are what drives the fashion business in today’s world. Hot items are only hot if they are rare and difficult to obtain. These products have become so buzzed about we create a sense of need for them. The Vogue x Jordan’s are no different: the people asked and Anna Wintour, in part with the Jordan brand, definitely came through with some fresh new sneakers!
She includes this notary in her collaboration to confirm her stamp of approval on the sneaker design. Analysts have argued that this decision increased the sneakers value by featuring Wintour’s confirmation that the shoe is deemed as a ‘worthy creation’. 24 | On Point Summer
