2014 OUA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL FINAL FOUR GREETINGS FROM OUA On behalf of Ontario University Athletics (OUA), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2014 OUA Women’s Volleyball Final Four Championship. Congratulations to all four teams on a successful 2013-14 season. The OUA gold and silver medalists will represent Ontario University Athletics at the CIS Championship in Regina, Saskatchewan next weekend. An event like this would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and host. I would like to thank Mikasa Sports Canada for their support of OUA women’s volleyball. In addition, thank you to the University of Toronto for hosting the Final Four. Good luck to all four teams this weekend and all the best to the finalists who will move on to represent OUA on the national stage.

2014 OUA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL FINAL FOUR ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team hosts the OUA Final Four, February 22-23, at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. The OUA Final Four is sponsored by Mikasa Sports. The host Varsity Blues will take on the McMaster Marauders in the first semifinal match up on Saturday at 12 p.m., followed by a tilt between the defending champion Ottawa Gee-Gees and Guelph Gryphons at 2:30 p.m. The Toronto Varsity Blues finished the season atop the OUA East division with a 15-4 record and advanced to their 24th Final Four in 25 years with a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Ryerson on February 15. Fourth-year left side hitter Charlotte Sider leads the Blues and ranked third in the OUA with 3.21 kills per set, while fellow veteran Jennifer Neilson is riding a hot streak having averaged 3.46 points per set over the last three matches. Rookie standout Tessa Davis ended the season ranked second in the OUA with 53 blocks. The Marauders ended the regular season on a three-game win streak, placing second overall in the OUA West with a 13-6 record. McMaster defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Saturday night in quarter-final action. They are led by rookie standout Sophie Bukovec, who ranked fifth in the OUA with 3.79 points per game, while Maicee Sorensen sat third in the province with 52.5 blocks. The Blues defeated the Marauders 3-1 in their lone regular season meeting. The two teams also met twice at the University of Winnipeg’s pre-season tournament. Toronto took the first game 3-0, before falling 3-2 in the second match. The Ottawa Gee-Gees finished in a three-way tie for second in the OUA East with a 14-5 record, and wound up as the third seed. That didn’t stop the powerhouses from the nation’s capital as they upset the second-seeded York Lions, 3-0, in quarter-final action on February 14. Twin sisters and Gee-Gees standouts Kelsie and Myriam English led the OUA with 4.12 and 4.75 points per set in the regular season, while also topping the league with 43 aces each. The Guelph Gryphons are the top seed from the OUA West after finishing with a 14-5 record and cruising to a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Lakehead. They are led by first-year left side hitter Madison DeDecker, who ranked seventh in the OUA with 3.07 kills per set. Fourth-year middle Alicia Combe-Dingwall topped all players in the province with 60.5 blocks this season. The Gee-Gees defeated the Gryphons 3-0 in their lone meeting of 2013-14 on November 16 in Guelph. The semifinal winners will earn their ticket to the 2014 CIS championship, February 28-March 2, hosted by the University of Regina, and will face each other for the OUA title on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The bronze medal match will precede it at noon.
