Top 3 Wedding Ring Tips from Brisbane’s Leading Jeweller

1. PLAN AHEAD

We advise couples to start wedding ring shopping around 4 months out from their wedding day. This gives enough time to look at options and designs and be sure of the ring they are going to wear forever.

2. THINK ABOUT METALS AND DIAMONDS

There has never been more choice in metals when manufacturing wedding rings. Metals include platinum, platinum 600, titanium, tantalum, palladium, carbon fibre and of course yellow, rose, and white gold. Depending on your work and lifestyle, a particular metal may suit your needs better. There is even a choice when it comes to diamonds with both laboratory created and mined diamonds being equally as popular.

3. CONSIDER HANDMADE V CAD

At Xennox we have an onsite workshop with our own jewellers and diamond setter, so we love to hand make wedding rings. Handmade will be heavier than a CAD and there’s something special about jewellers rolling the gold for your ring and crafting it instore for you.

At Xennox Diamonds we are here to make it simple for you and be your guide in creating your perfect rings. Check out some of our happy clients here: xennox diamonds reviews - Google Search

We would love to meet you and be a small part of your special day. Book a time here to chat to the team, either virtually or in store and book an appointment here: www.xennoxdiamonds.com.au/book-appointment

“ I love fresh flowers and wanted them in abundance on my wedding day. Congratulations SOPHIE & RYAN 27.5.22

Sophie Culley and Ryan Hutley met when they were set up! Ryan, an electrician who worked with Sophie’s brother-in-law, was called to do some electrical work at Sophie’s sister’s house. Ryan had no idea what he was walking into and Sophie had been prepped by her sister to ‘dress up nicely’. This was supposed to be the moment when Sophie and Ryan would fall in love at first sight, but Ryan was so busy installing new lights that he didn’t really notice Sophie at all. When Sophie left, Ryan was bombarded with questions... “So Ryan, what did you think of Sophie? You know, Sophie is single too.” Ryan shrugged it off and after a week, Sophie received a friend request on Facebook.

Ryan proposed on a day trip exploring all of the places where significant milestones had happened in his life. As the sun was setting, they made their way to the beach on the Gold Coast Broadwater where Ryan took Sophie for a walk along the sand. In a poem penned by Ryan, he asked for Sophie’s hand.

After a week of rain and flooding, both Sophie and Ryan were so thrilled to have the sun shining on their wedding day. Everything about the day went perfectly. “The flowers were spectacular and exceeded all of our expectations. The venue was amazing and the services provided by the vendors were phenomenal.”

Sophie and Ryan honeymooned in Port Douglas.

Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t have any expectations. Expectations set you up for disappointment. Decide before the day begins, that you are going to love everything about it!

TARA

Congratulations
& SEAN 22.4.22

Tara Homan and Sean Lindsay met through a mutual friend while both passing through the Whitsundays, where both of their parents and families live.

“Access 12 on Noosa Main Beach will always hold a special place in our hearts as it was the spot where Sean proposed on a sunny afternoon. He had secretly contacted Danni from Elopements Noosa and what a surprise they had for me! Sean led me down a footpath to a sign that read, ‘Will you marry me?’, surrounded by candles and my favourite flowers, Lillies. It was very romantic! I instantly said ‘Yes’ and we both cried a little after that. But the proposal got even better when Sean whisked me off my feet and spun me around to yet another gorgeous surprise... a candlelit tipi filled with flowers, champagne and a charcuterie board. The afternoon ended with a stunning photoshoot at sunset - photos we will always cherish.”

“I call our wedding our ‘Love Day’ and it was beyond special, simply because I got to marry my best friend, but there were many moments that stood out throughout the day. We had a ‘silent wedding’ ceremony to keep it intimate and really special and to top off the beautiful ceremony, our best friend Val married us. We walked down the aisle in the same spot on Noosa Main Beach where we got engaged and I’ll never forget dancing on the sand with our bridal party as the sun went down. The champagne tower at Moonstruck, our friend’s bar on Hastings Street, was so much fun. It was at the reception at Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort where we had our unforgettable moments as husband and wife. Our first dance, the father-daughter dance, the dance for my mum Trish up in heaven with all our guests, and every dance, laughs and tears we had throughout the night with our loved ones in front of The Lindsay’s neon sign. The speeches were intoxicating with everyone both laughing and crying. We didn’t want the day to end!”

“Danni of Elopements Noosa, Jodie of Jodie Modric Photography, Debbie of Beauty on the Move, and Bec of Blooms of Noosa set up our magical proposal on Noosa Main Beach Access 12. Having them all there to create our wedding on the same spot we got engaged was so special to us.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to go with the flow and embrace it. We spent our honeymoon in Noosa.”

The ‘first look’ was definitely one of the best parts of the day, but hearing our personal vows to each other with our baby boy Ziggy Lee watching on, came in pretty close.

Congratulations MAATHANGI & LIAM 25.4.22 & 1.5.22

We were married on 25 April 2022 in a Sri Lankan Tamil Hindu Ceremony and had our Civil Ceremony and Reception on 1 May 2022.

Maathangi Karunaharan and Liam Hackett met over a decade ago at The University of Queensland’s Young Scholar’s Program. “It was at YSP, affectionately known as ‘nerd camp’, during a game of Quidditch. Liam very quickly realised that I was not very athletic and placed all his efforts on getting me out of the game. With great sportsmanship and all the grace of a humble loser, in retaliation I decided to kick him in the shins! We started dating several months later and tied the knot on our ten-year anniversary.”

“On the eve of our nine-year anniversary, Liam orchestrated a scavenger hunt with our feline daughters. It involved me searching for hints and photos placed around our home, which when put together formed a chronology of the years we have spent together, from our very first photo at YSP to a heartfelt proposal at the end, which left no room for anything but a resounding ‘Yes’.”

“The ‘Ring Game’ was the biggest highlight of our Hindu ceremony and our series of wedding dances was the best part of our civil ceremony. We say dances in plural as the groomsmen did a routine (including a homage to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’), followed by the bridesmaids performing to a medley starting with Megan Trainor’s ‘Dear Future Husband’ and a mix of Hindi/Tamil songs. We ended with our bridal waltz to a duet version of ‘A Thousand Years’, which was complemented by a fog effect and sparkulars during our partnered lift. We’re fortunate to have had two ceremonies, so it is hard to choose from the many beautiful memories. Honestly both days were just magical.”

“As much as this may be disheartening for some to hear, expect things to not go exactly to plan. For example, during our civil ceremony it kept spitting with rain, but our best man organised umbrellas and despite how cramped it was with us all sheltering together, it added some whimsy to the day that otherwise wouldn’t have happened. As long as you’re with your partner, thick and thin, that’s all that matters. Most importantly, we can say that rain or shine, we still got married!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to work out what your must-haves are and your budget. We had a clear idea of which vendors we wanted and therefore were happy to splurge on particular services based on the image we had in mind. Otherwise, we DIY’d smaller things like wedding cake/ bonbonniere boxes, menus, welcome signs and seating charts.”

“In Sri Lankan Tamil culture, red is considered an auspicious colour, which is why traditionally many brides wear a rich red-coloured saree. For our civil ceremony, we chose white as our secondary colour to reflect Liam’s heritage. To unify both weddings, we had accents of gold, resulting in a theme of red and gold for the Hindu ceremony and white and gold for the civil ceremony.

Our wedding theme was Rustic Australian Native with tones of dusty pink, burgundy and navy.

Tamika Snow and Timothy Camus met in High School. “We became best friends while planning a group camp to Moreton Island in grade 12 and started dating during our first year of university.”

“Tim proposed at our first home with our fur baby, Kyda. Tim’s mum was supposedly taking some family pictures of us. Tim was holding the ring behind his head in all of the photos until he got down on one knee and asked the big question.”

“OMG there were so many wedding day highlights, including our ‘first look’, braving the weather on One Tree Hill and Tim seeing me walking down the aisle. Other highlights were playing ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ in the middle of the ceremony, our non-traditional alternating vows, the ice cream cart after the ceremony, ‘nailing’ our first dance and the Caricaturist drawing cartoons at the reception. Our biggest highlight was having our friends and family with us to watch us tie the knot.”

“Any advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t sweat the small stuff. No one will remember anyway!”

617 Grandchester Mount Mort Rd, Grandchester QLD spicersretreats.com facebook.com/spicershiddenvale @spicershiddenvale #spicershiddenvale SPI2219 A modern country wedding venue, just one hour from Brisbane

We were married at the peak of Covid. For many months leading up to our wedding it was a real possibility that we wouldn’t have any family on the day as they are all interstate and the borders were closed. So one of our highlights was being able to have our parents there with us.

Congratulations MONIQUE & SEAN 2.9.21

A favourite highlight was watching my bridal party chase chickens for me to get a good photo opportunity with one. Anyone who knows me knows I love my chickens!

Monique Clemens and Sean Supierz met while volunteering on a car racing team in Western Australia. “We met at the the drags. Sean was the ‘Engine Guy’ and I cooked the bbq and packed the parachutes.”

“Sean bought tickets to Canada for my 30th birthday, which was in May but the trip was planned for the following February. I had never seen snow and we hadn’t had a holiday together for about five years. When we were packing, Sean started getting possessive of his backpack! He had a rather expensive camera in there and kept telling me he didn’t want anyone to steal the bag. All through the airports and the first few days of our trip I was not permitted to touch this bag. He took me out to a beautiful frozen lake and asked me to turn around to face the water as I had bright red hair and he wanted to take a nice photo of the snowy background with my contrasting fiery hair. I could hear him rummaging around in his bag. He told me he was changing lenses and not to turn around. He finally said he was done. I turned to see him down on one knee offering me a gorgeous ring. In typical Monique style (although I don’t remember it this way) all I could say was ‘Are you (blank) kidding?’. I did eventually say ‘Yes’.”

“Neither of us are religious and we both love the country. We were looking for a venue with a rustic country feel, whilst also being a little pampered on our special day. We were actually married two days prior at the Registrar’s Office. It was intimate, with just our parents. We didn’t want there to be any pressure on the day itself and I am so glad we did it this way! It meant we were able to have one of our good friends, Christine Hunt officiate even though she wasn’t a registered celebrant. A highlight was my bridesmaid making it over from Perth. My fondest memories of the day were feeling closer with my family than ever before and being lucky enough to have our special friends and family there to celebrate with us.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t be afraid to tell people what you need from them. We were dealing with a very difficult time for the world and there was a lot of uncertainty. We were asked almost on a daily basis whether or not we were proceeding or if the wedding was cancelled. We were living moment by moment in constant anxiety with the unknown. We ended up sharing a message with all our family and friends explaining the position we were in, what we were feeling, the fact that our hands were tied and what we needed from everyone was their support and patience.”

“Our original plan was to honeymoon in Japan but at the time all international travel was on hold.”

HIGH CHURCH
your dream ceremony & reception in Brisbane's most unique wedding venue 17 Malt Street, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006 07 3186 0011 info@highchurch.com.au www.highchurch.com.au

Congratulations MARISSA & ALAN

Our son Andrew was eight months old at the time of our wedding so we wanted to streamline the process, reminding ourselves that ‘less is more’ and ‘the classics are classics for a reason’.

12.3.22

Marissa Carroll and Alan Wrigley met after university. “We both undertook positions as Judges’ Associates in the District Court of Queensland, which is where we first met. Our time as Associates was an essential and formative stage of our relationship and one that we look back on fondly.”

Alan proposed when Covid restrictions meant that travel interstate or overseas was not possible. Given the genesis of their relationship, Alan decided that it was only fitting to propose to Marissa in front of the Supreme and District Court of Queensland building in Brisbane at sunset, on a Sunday afternoon.

“The wedding theme was Modern Simplicity. We opted for a simple white colour palette for our florals and pared-down décor to create something highly personal and, in our view, timeless. Choosing to be married in Brisbane (local for us and our friends and family) was one of the best decisions we made. Both High Church and The Calile Hotel are only a short drive from where we live, and being able to pass these venues often means that we are constantly reminiscing on our perfect wedding day.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to start planning early and don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember it is your wedding day and your guests will have a good time no matter what. Book live music for your ceremony and reception as nothing beats the atmosphere that live music creates.”

Our wedding day highlights were spending the day with our son, our families and our nearest and dearest friends; sunset photographs on the rooftop of The Calile Hotel; our first dance, and the impromptu vocal performances from our guests.

Multi-award winning Brisbane artist Donna Gibb came up with the concept of painting with guests at events back in 2000. She is the original Wedding Painter and for over 20 years has painted at weddings and many events including the Melbourne Cup Birdcage, Gala Balls and dinners, where her artwork has been auctioned for up to $30,000.00 a piece. Donna has painted on stage with Prime Ministers, movie stars, sports stars and other celebrities and identities and even Royalty. HRH Princess Anne told Donna at the Australian Sailing Awards in Sydney: “I really enjoyed watching the transition of the artwork taking shape throughout the evening.”

Donna Gibb: “I like to create an artwork where the more you look the more you see. Every wedding is different and each artwork is designed to capture the couple’s special love story on canvas, creating a bespoke artwork to treasure.”

“OMG it is absolutely stunning. We are so obsessed! Everyone has been talking about what an amazing idea it was for you to be there. You were so accommodating and helpful on the day. I just can’t thank you enough. This is so special.”

Donna has trained WEDDING PAINTERS in other states, cutting out the extra travel costs to make having a wedding painting at your wedding more affordable. Donna is the Original Wedding Painter and with her 22 years of experience, you can trust Donna and her team to produce an artwork you will treasure forever!

“What a brilliant idea!”

Candid Photos and Videos of guests adding to the artwork is a BONUS!

You will have an interesting interactive and entertaining experience for your guests to enjoy on the day and a life-long artwork to treasure, capturing the atmosphere and heart of your wedding. Photos and videos will candidly capture your guests adding their own touches to the painting, which they will love pointing out to you when they visit. Special guests, the wedding party and family are encouraged to paint in a significant motif and Donna loves it when extra special memories make it to the canvas.

Georgina & Tim, Royal Queensland Yacht Club

“OMG I want to cry. It’s incredible. We loved sitting back with a wine on Sunday arvo looking at the pictures and videos. Thanks so much Donna. It is SO special to us.”

“ All through our discussions of planning the wedding, we both had exactly the same image for our wedding day... Simple Elegance. Congratulations AMANDA & STEPHEN 3.9.22

Amanda Eaves and Stephen Shields met in June 2015. Amanda was looking for a flatmate to share her house. “My brother Robbie, who Amanda had worked with previously, suggested me as a potential flatmate as he had a sneaking suspicion we would get along rather well. His suspicions turned out to be right! After a quick coffee catch up, we both instantly felt comfortable with each other. Once I had moved in, we started spending many nights together, chatting and playing board games into the early hours of the morning, where we formed a deep understanding and friendship. Before we knew it, we were going on holidays together as friends. A holiday bareboating around the Whitsundays in a luxury catamaran was the catalyst for our friendship turning to romance as we both realised we had a secret crush on each other! And we haven’t looked back since.”

“Amanda is extremely difficult to surprise, yet she has always wanted to be surprised by a proposal, so I really had my work cut out for me. So an elaborate plan was formed to take advantage of a driving holiday we had planned exploring the Victorian and NSW high country. Amanda had never seen snow before, so on the second day I suggested we take a detour to go to Mount Buller, which I had not included on our planned itinerary. Once at Mount Buller, I was trying to convince Amanda to walk high up the mountain to gain the perfect spot to propose, however after living in Queensland for much of her life, Amanda was not used to the cold and she soon wanted to turn back to get warm.”

“This was it then. It had to be here half way up the mountain, with skiers and snow boarders whizzing past us...I had to make my move. To my horror, the ring box got caught in my jacket pocket and I could not get it out! With Amanda freezing and wanting to get back to the warm, she thought I was clutching my heart and was worried I was having a coronary (I almost was!). At this point, a snowboarder almost collided with us so with Amanda now distracted, the ring box finally came free and when she turned back to face me, I had the box open and the ring facing her. Amanda looked utterly bewildered as I stood in front of her holding the engagement ring.”

“I was unable to get down on one knee for fear of sliding down the hill. It was so steep! So I said the magic words: ‘Amanda, will you marry me?’ With a look of confusion on her face, she didn’t say anything, so after a pause I asked again: “Will you marry me?” To my amusement she replied: ‘Are you sure?’ I laughed out loud as it was the one thing I have been the most sure about in my whole life. So I chuckled: ‘Yes of course I’m sure, will you marry me?’ She threw her hands in the air in excitement and replied: ’Of course I will... YES!’ She was in such a state of shock that I had to assist her walking back down the mountain and steer her to a nearby bar where we enjoyed a glass of champagne to celebrate. Once Amanda recovered from the shock and was able to speak again, she said she had never been so surprised in her entire life! Mission accomplished!”

Our wedding dates! Take One - 10 September 2020 was postponed due to Covid and lockdown. Take Two - 10 September 2021 was postponed AGAIN due to Covid and border restrictions. Take Three - third time’s a charm! - 3 September 2022.

“We were married at Kooroomba Lavender Farm overlooking the vineyards and lavender and the mountains of the Scenic Rim. The venue was so spectacular that we felt it needed very little added decoration. The simple, elegant white roses and greenery we chose accentuated the beauty of the venue perfectly. The evening reception was warmed by candlelight, fairy lights and fireplaces, which also complemented the venue’s rustic elegance.”

“We both agree the moment we placed the wedding rings on each other’s fingers was by far our favourite moment. After four years of being engaged and two devastating postponements, we were both incredibly impatient to call each other ‘Husband and Wife’. At that moment, we both felt an overwhelming sense of peace and belonging. We had finally made it! We also incorporated a slightly unconventional moment where once the wedding band had been placed on Amanda’s finger, I then placed her engagement ring with the wedding band to symbolise protection and sustainment. In other words, I locked it in! Our other highlight was when the reception really kicked off with the live band starting to play and we were able to properly let our hair down to dance the night away with our wonderful family and friends.”

“We have about three years worth of planning advice to share, so where to start? Look for a personal connection when deciding on your major vendors (i.e. celebrant, photographer, florist), and invest time in getting to know each other. Our wedding was made so much more special by our wonderful vendors, who were incredibly engaged and personally invested in making sure our day was perfect. Discuss your ideas for the wedding frequently and early. Weddings can be very emotive affairs, so be kind to one another and listen to each other’s ideas. Just as it is in marriage, open communication and patience is the key to success! On the day, make sure you regularly take time to pause, be present in the moment and enjoy being with each other. The day will fly by before you know it and its these special moments that you will remember for a lifetime. And to all the future Grooms out there, get involved in the planning and do your share of the work! It will not only do wonders for your partner’s stress and nerves on the day, but you will also have a great feeling of accomplishment knowing you have helped make the day extra special.”

“Our original honeymoon in 2020 was booked in an overwater luxury villa in the Maldives, however Covid had different plans! Following our wedding, we stayed for a few nights in a beautiful house in the Scenic Rim with our Dachshund puppy, Dexter.”

“ We had a simple and elegant white theme with a splash of gold and greenery. Congratulations NICOLE & DEON 30.4.22

Our ceremony was held at St John’s Cathedral which is dramatic and beautiful. It rivalled a royal wedding with the beautiful archways at the entrance and sides. We had 110 guests.

Nicole Hope and Deon Streete have an adorable puppy to thank for bringing them together. “I would be lying if I didn’t say that I fell in love with Deon’s puppy first, an adorable 3-month old Chow Chow named Ari. How could you say no to a date with a Chow Chow puppy in New Farm Park? I was blown away when Deon arrived with a picnic of cheese, crackers, and wine in tow, as well as the puppy. It was everything my heart desired!”

“We both fell in love quickly. By six months we had moved in together and by nine months, Deon had proposed to me. We planned to marry two years later, sadly colliding with the pandemic. It took another four date attempts and two more years before we finally got to say ‘I Do’. Deon proposed to me in Santorini. He organised a private dinner with a butler on a rooftop terrace overlooking the Caldera. I arrived to a trail of lit candles, scattered rose petals, love songs playing, a beautiful white terrace and arbour with an amazing sunset, and Deon sitting waiting. I could tell he was nervous. It was very awkward small talk, until he got down on one knee. I can’t even remember the words I was in such a shock. I had just gotten off a long-haul flight where I had caught a flu and had tissues stuffed up my nose an hour before the dinner, and my lack of sleep had me in a horrible mood. Yet he still proposed. Bless him!”

“The reception was held at Emporium Hotel which is so new and modern with beautiful interior décor. It gave a very luxurious feel to the whole experience from food tasting to the accommodation and the set-up of the reception room. My dress was by a local Brisbane designer, Wendy Sullivan. The figure-hugging style flared out to a dramatic long train. I paired it with a Grace Loves Lace cathedral-length veil. We had white cherry blossom trees for half of the centrepieces and gold stands with Baby’s Breath clouds for the other half. We hired a light-up white gloss dance floor from G&M Events, a large enchanted tree from The Styled Group and light-up LOVE letters from Hitched Events. The bridal table featured a white hydrangea floral runner, fresh white and green floral bouquets and floating water candles in vases. Our wedding favours were custom gold tin candles.”

Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to be best friends first and always. Enjoy the wedding planning process. Enjoy the day as it goes so quickly, but it’s only one beautiful, magical moment in what will be an amazing lifetime together. Surround yourself with all the people (and furbabies) you love.

Congratulations KATHRYN & NATHAN 22.5.21

Rather than traditional flower girl and page boy duties, we gave them bubble cannons to walk down the aisle first to set the scene with hundreds of bubbles. My first bridesmaid Alice came next with my German Shepherd Billie who thought the bubbles were a riot and tried to eat all of them, sometimes inches away from our guests!

Kathryn Guerrero and Nathan Bambling met at university when they were both studying Regional and Town Planning. “We had our engagement photos taken at UQ. Nathan was a 4th year and I was a 1st year when we met because my oldest friend Shalini’s (maid of honour) older sister Adrika was in the same cohort as Nathan and she recommended me to join the Organisation of Planning Students (OOPS) of which Nathan was President. We didn’t start dating until my uni friend Meg (bridesmaid) pointed out ‘how nice his butt was’ and asked if I could date him because she was already in a relationship! Our first date included a bit of daring/testing each other and we decided to meet at South Bank in our ‘onesies’ (I was pikachu and he was a dinosaur). Neither of us really thought the other would show up in our onesies but we did and the rest is history!”

“In 2019, Nathan gave me a card filled with clues about my birthday surprise which was almost two weeks later. I figured out he was taking me for breakfast at The Farm at Byron Bay (a favorite place of ours) and then horseback riding on the beach (ultimate bucket list of mine). He was so calm that I was suspicious at first but after breakfast I was like, ‘Nah... this is genuinely just a birthday thing’. I had always joked with Nathan that if he proposed to me with a puppy with a ring tied around its neck, I wouldn’t say ‘no’ and we were waiting for a german shepherd puppy at the time so I had convinced myself he would wait until we got a puppy! We arrived at the riding centre and then rode our horses through the bush to the beach, which was absolutely gorgeous with very dramatic sky and choppy waves as it had been raining nearly all day. It stopped for our ride amazingly enough and we had the trail guide in front on Ledger, Nathan in the middle on Gem and me at the rear on Pilot. Suddenly Nathan was hunched in his saddle and I called out asking if his back was okay as he has muscle problems in his back. He replied it was a cramp and the trail guide suggested Nathan better hop off Gem. She managed to maneuvre Ledger between Nathan and me and went to help Nathan and also slip him the ring. The trail guide then came back to me and said Nathan had a really bad cramp in his leg and I better go rub it for him. I think I snorted at this point because I was just like, ‘I want to ride my horse down this beach’. Nevertheless, I went to Nathan to find him on one knee. I believe at this stage I burst into tears and told the trail guide that Nathan actually didn’t have a cramp. Of course I said, ‘Yes’ then we continued on our ride and when we got back to the stables, we were greeted with champagne and a massive cheese platter.”

“Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2021. I don’t wear my engagement ring when I am gardening, crafting and dog training, so on Valentines Day Nathan had a ‘simple’ ring made for me to wear for those activities. This time he tied it around Billie’s neck with a ribbon and made her bring it to me since I had always told him if he proposed with a ring around a puppy’s neck, I would never say ‘No’.”

“Nathan and I celebrated our first official anniversary in 2014 with a lovely dinner at Sirromet Wines at Restaurant Lurleens. When the time came, we decided we had to check it out for our wedding venue. We were leaning towards an outdoor ceremony because we wanted Billie and Finley (our dogs) to be part of the ceremony (a non-negotiable for us) and we wanted to have both the ceremony and reception all in one place to make it easier and less stressful for our guests. It was the Barrel Hall that set the tone of our wedding theme. I chose the gorgeous rust colour of the bridesmaid dresses and dried preserved native florals to complement the warm moody tones of the Barrel Hall. Also because I surrounded myself with super-talented vendors, it all came together like a dream. I love doing crafts and wanted to create a lot of elements myself. I created the honey jar giveaways, signs and bridal party flowers and after sending photos to Julie Vine Flowers, she matched the reception styling and flowers beautifully. Nathan jumped in on the cake design with myself and Zoe from Confetti Cake Co. I provided Zoe with some of my home dried flowers and she created a masterpiece. I think overall our wedding style was very much just ‘Us’. I wore wedding sneakers and the groomsmen had funky socks. We had a bridal party of 12 because Nathan couldn’t choose less than five groomsmen. I can’t remember a single second that I wasn’t laughing my head off with my tribe. We had to have the doggies at the wedding and they brought their own magic to the day. A favourite highlight was Nathan tearing up watching me walk down the aisle to the song which was also played during the first dance at my parents’ wedding.”

“We are planning a honeymoon to the Philippines post Covid. We enjoyed a wonderful minimoon at a gorgeous Airbnb property in the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands.”

Congratulations ALEXANDER & JOSHUA 6.8.22

“A highlight was seeing all the love our friends and family have for us and sharing our happiest day so far with them all. Josh snuck Chanel into the room at Altitude while he finished getting ready and those moments with best friends Sean and Tara and Chanel helped calm any nerves in the lead up.

Alexander Vlasits and Joshua Dickson met through Tinder. “It took a few days for Josh to gain the courage to send the first message but after some ‘liquid courage’ at a house party for one, we didn’t stop messaging. It was an instant connection that has continued to grow to this day.”

Joshua took a day off work to take Alexander to Granite Bay, his favourite beach in Noosa National Park. Alexander knew something was up and knew the proposal was coming as the ring was custom made and already in the house. “It was poorly hidden as he was wearing it on his days off work, even wearing it to dinner with Joshua’s parents one night before the proposal actually happened! However on the day Joshua planned to propose, the Council were doing repairs to the path to Granite Bay and the footpath was closed. After hiking a decent way on a warm day, we stopped to take in the beautiful ocean view when Josh blurted out, ‘Do you want the ring?’ and then threw the ring box at me! We then went back to Hastings Street and met with Joshua’s parents for celebratory cocktails on the beachfront. To this day, noone believes Joshua actually threw the box at me!”

The wedding theme was Native with Nude Tones. Josh’s highlight was standing under the pavilion and seeing Alexander being walked down the stairs by his father.

Alexander loved the quiet time he had in the morning with his wedding party getting ready, sharing beautiful memories and endless laughter. “One of the most special moments I had was walking up to the glasshouse and having my dad see me for the first time. I will never forget as we were walking down the stone stairs to the pavilion, how dad almost pushed me off the stairs as they were so steep. Thankfully we made it down safely and I didn’t go rolling down the hill!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to book the vendors you connect with as they will get to know you over the first few meetings and then leave what you can in their hands. We were lucky enough to connect with so many amazing vendors during wedding showcases, many of whom were instant connections. The vendors got to know us and our ideas of what we wanted. The results were an absolute ‘A Team’ of vendors and the most stunning of wedding days.”

“We spent a few nights on the Gold Coast after the wedding and are planning a month holiday exploring Tasmania for our first wedding anniversary and late honeymoon. Our work schedules don’t allign, therefore staying at home and enjoying one another’s company after the wedding was honestly better than a honeymoon!”

The Sunshine Coast is a smaller community and our vendors are all close friends. Our photographer, Jodie introduced us to Vanessa at Uniqueness Jewellery who incorporated our love story into the most beautiful sets of rings.

GABRIELLE & ADAM

4.9.21

Our wedding day highlight was probably after all of the official duties, Adam and I were up on the balcony looking down at the marquee and we just took a moment to take it all in. We looked at each other and said this was all for us, all the love down there, all the effort, everything was for us.

Gabrielle McMahon and Adam Wilson matched on Tinder. “However after chatting for a bit, I soon realised that he was the guy that tried kissing me at Schoolies some 10 years back. I kindly declined the kiss back then. Luckily he was persistent.”

“The proposal happened when we were at our family apartment at Tangalooma on Moreton Island with a few friends for a fun weekend away. To set the scene, when we arrived we had soon learnt that there was ecoli in the Island’s water systems which meant no drinking from the taps, showering was sketchy and no swimming in the pools! That afternoon we were all on the deck enjoying a few wines watching some storms roll by in the bay. The storms became more fierce and turned into very angry electrical storms. There were lots of cracks and bangs and then all of a sudden we noticed some smoke coming from further down the beach. We all received emergency text messages from the Council advising that parts of the Island need to start evacuating due to large fires that were started by the storm. Freaking out about the ecoli and the escalating fire situation, I ran down to the store to grab a carton of bottled water. When I arrived back at the apartment, to my surprise Adam suggested that we go for a night fish! Even more surprisingly, everyone agreed! I thought to myself, ‘Are you all mad? The Island is on fire, there’s s**t in the water and you want to go for a night fish?’ I couldn’t think of anything worse however I was outnumbered. So they carried the rods, I carried the water and an emergency bag and off we went for a fish. The night sky soon became an orange glow and Adam pulled me aside. I though he was just pulling me away to reassure me that everything would be fine. Instead, he got on one knee and said those four words every girl wants to hear: ‘Will you marry me?’.”

“Our wedding was held at our family farm in Samford so the theme was automatically a Boho style. All I wanted was a fun and free flowing wedding, which is exactly what we had. My very talented cousin stepped in to create our cake as the original cake was across the border and the borders had just closed on us! I bought custom wine glasses from an online store for our favours.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to find yourself a wedding team that you can count on. Find the caterers that understand you and your style. Find a celebrant and photographer that you connect with. These people are the ones that create the perfect scene for your guests and capture every moment of your special day. Wedding planning can be very stressful and you don’t need to be your own worst enemy. Have a supportive team around you and planning the wedding ends up being a breeze! Our day was effortless and we couldn’t have picked a better combination to work with.”

We were supposed to honeymoon overseas however Covid stopped that, so we went back to Tangalooma, where we got engaged.

Taking inspiration from the abundance of botanicals found along the French Riviera, Mirabeau Dry Rosé Gin redefines the normally sugary pink gin category, with a dry, yet highly aromatic style. The addition of its awardwinning rosé adds a lovely roundness to the final blend. Impress your guests with these Maison Mirabeau’s Rosé Gin-Inspired Cocktails. www.maisonmirabeau.com

We wanted a very classic wedding, something that wouldn’t date with a wintery feel. We both love autumn tones and the toffee roses with magnolia leaves were the perfect options for our colour palette.

Congratulations BRIANNA & BEN 3.6.22

Brianna Archibald and Ben Brooks-Veivers met while working together at The Parkhouse Cafe. “It was just after we both finished school - almost ‘High School Sweethearts’! Ben was the Dishy and the kitchen sink overlooked the staff car park. This was where he first saw me coming in for my first shift as the new Barista and he decided he needed to get to know me better. The day after the wedding, we actually hosted a hangover brunch for some of our family and friends back where our relationship began.”

“Ben had planned a weekend away for our eight-year anniversary to Spicers Clovelly Estate in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. After this much time together, I had a slight feeling it was coming! It was the first trip away he had wanted to plan without much of my input. When we arrived, they asked us what we were celebrating and as we had only just purchased our first home a few days earlier, I immediately said that and Ben corrected me saying we were actually celebrating our anniversary. He had organised the proposal at the Lake View Deck with wine and a cheese platter before dinner. Emily from Love from Luna Photography was hiding in the trees waiting to capture the moment without me knowing. It was just the two of us and it was absolutely perfect.”

“We loved the relaxed atmosphere where the day just flowed naturally and nothing felt too organised or forced. Having our closest family and friends here to celebrate such a special day with us and enjoy some great food and a few (maybe a few too many) drinks was such a highlight. It started to lightly rain during the ceremony and continued to get heavier during the afternoon and evening, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our photographer Erin and Videographer Paul were more than happy to get out in it with us to make sure we got ‘the shots’. Our photos and video turned out more amazing than we could have imagined. We both think it really added to the wintery feel we were after.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to enjoy the planning process! By organising everything early, booking your vendors, organising your attire, signage and stationery, you will get the team that you want and it will save you so much stress later on. If it rains, just go out and enjoy yourselves and get those photos. You’ll be so happy you did! Lastly, as cliché as it sounds, make sure you take time out by yourselves on the day to actually take it all in and enjoy yourselves.”

“We went to the Hunter Valley for our honeymoon. We hadn’t planned much but to just relax and enjoy our time off. We spent the week enjoying the wine and delicious food surrounded by all the beautiful vineyards.”

We absolutely loved the waterfall fireworks as a backdrop for our cake cutting and the sneak peek video of the earlier parts of the day as they were both major surprises for everyone.

Congratulations LISA & MARIA 14.5.22 WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHE SAID YES!

One of our highlights was the ceremony as we got to say our personal vows. The ceremony was held in the Courtyard Garden and the reception was in the Library Bar and Rosewood Room at Hillstone St Lucia. We liked how the venue had two levels for eating and dancing at the end of the night.

Lisa and Maria met at Electra House, a bar in Adelaide in August 2017. “Maria’s brother Adam introduced us and we ended up having a conversation that felt like it lasted forever but also not long enough. We didn’t really talk again that night, but we instantly knew there was something there. A few weeks later, we bumped into each other again at the same bar and this time we ended up talking more. Then Maria asked me, ‘Do you have Snapchat?’ and I said, ‘No but I have a phone number’. I grabbed Maria’s phone from her and saved my number with my name and a love heart eyes emoji. Maria’s first text to me was 2 love hearts.”

“Maria had been planning the proposal for months. She prepared me for a night out by saying we had to attend a work Christmas function at Gambaro Seafood Restaurant. She had also booked Gambaro Hotel, which is special to us as she took me there once and I fell in love with the place. While planning the proposal, Maria also set up a Christmas treasure hunt to get me off the trail because I can get a bit nosy. The morning of the proposal Maria said she had to go into work. She came back after a few hours and off to the hotel we went. When we entered the hotel room, I was greeted with a sweet note from Maria, flower petals everywhere, a map of where we first met, champagne and a present which was a puzzle that said, ‘Will you marry me?’. I turned back to Maria shocked and confused because she was always saying she didn’t want to get married. She took the ring out and said, ‘Will you?’ and without finishing or waiting for a response nervously ‘shoved’ it on my finger. I hugged her and said, ‘Yes of course’.”

“Our wedding theme was Rustic Vibes. We wanted it to be elegant and to have a chilledout vibe for everyone to have fun.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is think about ways you can save. When looking for professionals, follow recommendations from other people in the industry and read reviews and look at photos. Meet with them to see if you gel and have the same idea about the day. A friend made our bonbonnieres and my mum made the bridesmaid bouquets. If you are wearing a dress, practice walking, dancing, sitting and eating. Plan for some alone time after the ceremony or after dinner. It is a big day and you will need a moment to breathe and chill out with your spouse. If possible, hire professionals for planning the run through, setting up and decorating. Most importantly, do what you want! People will have opinions but you need to do what you both like. We had a wedding trivia after dinner to personalise it more.”

“We had a minimoon on the Gold Coast and are planning a honeymoon in New Zealand.”

Congratulations HAU & TIEN 23.10.21 “ Our wedding theme was Luxurious and Classy.

Hau and Tien met at Macgregor State High School. “We were in Grade 8 in 2006 and originally became friends because we were both in the same clan (or homeroom as other schools would call it). In 2008, Tien decided to get a questionable haircut that many would’ve described back then as a ‘teeny bopper mullet’ style with a front fringe. From there, our love story began.”

“In 2019, we went on a holiday to Japan. Near the end of our trip on a gloomy day, Tien made the decision to go to Umeda Sky Building to have a look at the view. We had visited this building before on our first trip to Japan and placed an engraved love lock on one of the little fence strings at the top of the building. Whilst scrolling through my phone trying to find a photo of where the love lock was, I heard Hau say, ‘Are you ready?’ and I turned around to see Tien down on one knee asking, ‘Will you marry me?’”

“Our wedding day highlights were the first look, walking down the aisle, and the bar!”

“We spent our honeymoon at Qualia on Hamilton Island.”

Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to enjoy every single moment of it from the beginning to end. The wedding is to celebrate your relationship so love and enjoy each other’s company and have fun whilst planning it.

The whole evening was just amazing... filled with non-stop dancing and fun (the guests barely stopped to eat). The weekend we were married was one of the only ones without Covid restrictions and lockdowns for a few months.

Congratulations MAJA & BORIS 5.6.21

Maja Bajkanovic and Boris Vilic met at a nighclub ‘teenager night’ when they were teenagers. “We lost contact for about 15 years. We randomly ran into each other one night while walking at Kangaroo Point. A year later, we were engaged. We bought our first house together and the night we got the keys, we went to see our home. As I opened the door, there were hundreds of candles and rose petals everywhere going up the staircase and soft music playing. I almost fainted! Boris helped me walk up the stairs, where there was the most beautiful set up - two chairs and a table dressed in white, a bottle of Veuve, hundrends of candles, loads of red roses and rose petals and pictures of the two of us all around the room. That’s where Boris got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Shortly after, our family arrived to celebrate with us (all pre-arranged by him beforehand).”

“The wedding theme was Elegant and Timeless. In the morning, we had a big party at my parents’ house while we were getting ready. There was live music and loads of people dancing downstairs, while the bridemaids and I were getting ready upstairs. It was lots of fun. After the crazy morning, an emotional ceremony and the wild limo rides with music blasting, we arrived at our photo location in Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. It was such a beautiful peaceful moment and was the first chance we had to stop and take it all in.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is just go with the flow and even if things don’t work out - that’s ok. Sometimes the aspects that don’t work end up turning out even better and are blessings in disguise. Also, everyone says this, but on the day just be in the moment and take it all in. The day really does fly by so quickly. For months after the wedding I was saying I wished I could go back to relive it all.”

“We still haven’t had our honeymoon as we were married during Covid border restrictions. We really wanted to do a big Europe trip so will likely book that in in the coming months now the borders are open again.”

A photographer we had booked cancelled on us and I thought it was the end of the world! But then we found a photographer that was so much better and much more ‘us’. The photography ended up being one of the aspects we loved the most from the wedding. Things have a strange way of working out!

The main theme inspiration was ‘Fairytale’. We had a very Boho/whimsical wedding. Pinterest had a lot to do with the inspiration behind the flowers and colour palette for the day.

Congratulations SAMANTHA & SAM 1.4.22

Samantha Humphris and Sam Nunn met in high school. “It was online dating that brought us together about ten years after we had finished school. I (Samantha) had moved towns and after I came back, we connected online and the rest is history.”

“When Sam proposed, it was such a surprise. We live on the Sunshine Coast and we had gone to ‘check the surf’ or so I thought! Sam got down on one knee at a favourite lookout spot and had a massive speech planned. I didn’t believe what he was doing so from me exclaiming, ‘What are you doing?’ he got super nervous and absolutely just stumbled over his words. We still laugh about it today.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t stress on the little things (easier said than done!). The imperfections end up being the best parts. I think the best thing that we did was have a great wedding planner. Yvette at Montvale at Montville saved us so much unnecessary stress.”

“We honeymooned in Cairns, playing it safe in Covid times and staying within our home state. We had the absolute best time!”

Our wedding day highlights were all the dancing and laughing. We had everybody on the dance floor nearly all night. It was a blast! And the laughter from the day, Wow!

The best moment will be standing together, looking out at your combined family and friends and being thankful. It is not often in your life you get all the people who love you in a room. Savour that feeling – because it is the best foundation for a great marriage.

Congratulations LUCY & THOMAS 8.7.22

A photo of us sitting and watching the sunrise just after Tom proposed was so beautiful that I commissioned an amazing artist to paint it and I gifted it to Tom on our wedding day.

Lucy Dixon and Thomas Edgar met on Tinder back in March 2018. “I was notoriously slack at checking messages and missed Tom’s initial conversation. He didn’t want to let an opportunity slip by, so he found me on Instagram and tried messaging me there. The only catch... he was living in Japan fulfilling a professional volleyball contract so we had to wait a few weeks for our first date. We had our first date at Pearl Café in Woolloongabba and there was an instant spark! One of the reasons Tom was back in Australia earlier than usual was that he had to have ankle surgery for an injury sustained playing in Japan. Our third date was in the hospital after Tom’s surgery, where I met his mum for the first time. Not long after, I got to meet his entire family as they were around to help him after surgery while he was on crutches.”

“We can thank Covid a little for the proposal! With Tom’s career being based in Japan for the last four years, our relationship was long distance with lots of trips back and forth. While a long distance relationship can be tough, we used it as an opportunity to make our bond stronger. We also made the most of the situation being able to see the world together through volleyball. Then the pandemic hit and like many others, we were unable to see each other for nine months. Being apart definitely made the heart grow fonder and it also made Tom realise how much I meant to him and that ours was a forever type of love. Tom proposed a few weeks after being home, on a trip to Hamilton Island. Despite us both having a few too many cocktails the night before, he made sure I got out of bed when the alarm went off as it was our last full day on the island and he wanted to watch the sunrise at Passage Peak. He found the perfect spot and it was a very quick ‘YES’ from me! We had champagne and orange juice on hand to celebrate (which Tom had secretly packed) and then hiked up the mountain.”

“Our wedding was held at Gabbinbar Homestead. The perfectly-manicured gardens, stunning white pavilion with classic chandeliers and the history of the estate offered inspiration for our day, with lots of fresh blooms creating a romantic, ‘old worldly’ vibe. This was a beautiful contrast to the modern aesthetics in the reception space, with statement French doors, hanging pendant lighting and stunning glass conservatory roof. Gabbinbar Homestead is one of the most beautiful venues I have ever seen and we were incredibly fortunate to host our wedding there. Our dress code was black tie and all our guests looked gorgeous!”

We wanted to really capture the natural beauty of Gabbinbar Homestead so we opted for effortless elegance with a touch of modern romance.

“My highlights were having my dad walk me down the aisle and seeing Tom’s face. Hearing each other’s vows was so emotional. My dad singing during his Father of the Bride speech was definitely a highlight! He changed the lyrics ‘Sweet Caroline’ to ‘Lucy Eloise’ and it was incredible and very out of character for him! Everyone at the wedding couldn’t help but stand up and sing along. Tom’s highlight was the whole day and being able to share it with all of his family and closest friends who live all around the country and the world!“

Lucy’s advice for other couples planning their wedding: (Lucy) “Have everything at the one venue - from getting ready, ceremony and photos to reception. This made our day run so smoothly. We were able to take all our separate family photos before the ceremony and after the ceremony all our photos were taken on the spectacular grounds of Gabbinbar. This enabled us to be able to join our guests for cocktail hour and enjoy the party! My other advice is to hire vendors you trust.” Tom’s advice: “There’s no such thing as too much communication! Make sure you and your partner are on the same page regarding all facets of your wedding. Lucy did an amazing job with this and all of our amazing vendors were on the same page as us which made for a much smoother day.”

“We spent our honeymoon on Wilson Island which is all-inclusive and caters for a maximum of 10 adults at any one time. We were lucky to only have two other couples staying and we all had a ball! The days were filled with incredible meals and cocktails, sleeping in 5-star glamping style accommodation and snorkelling the best part of the Great Barrier Reef. We highly recommend it.”

The moment I first saw Lucy at the top of the aisle will forever be in my mind. How beautiful she looked and that feeling of genuine happiness I had in that moment is something I hadn’t experienced before.

e Congratulations KATIE & LIZZIE 30.4.22

It was so important to both of us to have our families there to celebrate with us, both in person and in spirit.

Katie Beecheno and Elizabeth Hicks met online in 2015. “We spoke for approximately 3-4 months and finally decided to meet in person. Our first date was at the Coffee Club next to Lizzie’s workplace before Lizzie left on a Contiki Trip around Europe for a month, which felt like forever! When she returned, we met up again as I couldn’t stop thinking about her and I knew we had something special. She was quite unwell when she returned from the trip so I went to see her and ended up staying for a few days to help look after her. I wouldn’t say they were the most romantic first dates but it cemented our relationship and we both knew we had found our person. I mean, of course we were going to be together for the long haul - if you can get through the horror of being that sick on what would be considered the second date, you can get through anything! The strength of our relationship definitely made it easier to get through the normal relationship ups and downs but also being a same-sex couple, our relationship has had to face some difficult situations. In all honesty it just made us stronger together.”

“We went on a trip to Melbourne and I had planned an elaborate proposal which included a bike ride around the Royal Botanic Gardens and a picnic. I organised a secret photographer to catch the special moment. I had planted the engagement ring inside a Kinder Surprise Egg, which holds very sentimental value to Lizzie. Of course Lizzie nearly blew the surprise when she noticed ‘some random person taking our photos’ and was going to confront them (politely of course) to ask them to stop. I was extremely nervous as I wanted it to be perfect but on top of all of that, I had to try and reassure Lizzie that the photographer I had secretly hired was not in fact taking our photos. On this same trip, Lizzie had planned to propose to me at a concert for my favourite artist which is why we scheduled the trip in the first place. After a series of unfortunate events, we finally managed to get to the concert where Lizzie waited till the last song and proposed. Of course it was a yes!”

“Our wedding theme was Intimate, Romantic and Elegant. The whole day was amazing but we definitely have a few highlights. Our nearest and dearest were there which made the day feel that much more special. Having my dad walk me down the aisle and Lizzie’s adopted dad walk her down the aisle was incredibly emotional. My step dad and sisters also performed a ‘Welcome to Family’ (cultural welcoming ceremony) for Lizzie at the reception and this meant the absolute world to us both. It was all so special and we honestly could not have wished for anything more.”

“Our biggest piece of wedding planning advice would be to take in every minute of the day as the time goes so quickly... and have a good photographer to capture every moment. With all the nerves and excitement, time goes fast and being able to look back on every moment through photos is very special. Also, make sure you have a snack prior to the ceremony!”

“We haven’t planned a honeymoon yet as we are planning to start a family. The honeymoon may turn into a babymoon!”

Our photographer made us feel so comfortable and made sure we were able to do everything we wanted. There was a time schedule but she never once made us feel rushed. Even though there were some obstacles, she did everything possible to make sure we got some beautiful photos and memories that we will have forever.

“ We wanted a fun celebration filled with colour, family and friends, connected with nature. Our theme was Enchanted Wood Vibes – magical and whimsical. Congratulations JACINTA & WILL 21.5.22

Jacinta Wilson and Will Watson met while working together at Coles many years ago. “Checkout Chick vs Dairy Boy! We dated a little back then and reconnected 10 years later.”

“We went to Maleny for a spontaneous weekend away (after so many cancellations across 2020 and 2021). I thought it was probably a perfect opportunity for a proposal but was imagining the lovely lookout near our hotel set with a cheese platter and wine. However, it happened mid-way through our hike (in active wear!) to Kondalilla Falls where the ring appeared next to the beautiful waterfalls.”

“As someone who grew up with brothers, getting ready with the girls (and Will would say starting the day with his crew) was a highlight as was the ceremony when we first saw each other and all our family and friends together. Our siblings and parents all played a meaningful part in our day, in our bridal parties and singing at the ceremony. We surprised our guests with a smash cake and the magical sparkler exit was another highlight. Our first dance was to Calvin Harris ‘I found You’ which finished with the whole deck shaking when everyone joined in.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to trust the vendors. They do this everyday, are so helpful and have everything under control! Wear sneakers! Consider your top three priorities – the space, food and music were critical to us. Everything else we were fairly happy to compromise on.”

“We felt so lucky to be able to honeymoon in New Zealand, exploring the lakes, glaciers, mountains and wineries!”

“ It rained on our wedding day but I think that made it all the more beautiful!

“ Our wedding theme was Elegant, Romantic and Timeless with a touch of Vintage. Congratulations STEPHANIE & JOSEPH 9.8.21

Stephanie Jose and Joseph Coates bonded over a love of dogs! “Whilst I can’t disclose how we met (top secret squirrels’ business), I can say that it was a love of dogs that we bonded over and in particular Dalmatians. Odds would have it both Joe and I owned the uncommon breed; him with a boy, Bam Bam and I with a girl, Lyla. It was quite the Disney love story!”

“We aren’t big Valentine’s Day people, but Joe is very sweet and thoughtful so when he told me he was taking me to a three-course Valentine’s Day lunch at The Regatta in Brisbane, I didn’t over think it too much. We sat on the verandah overlooking the water, listening to live music and reminiscing over our first date which was at the Walrus Club underneath the same venue. At the end of lunch, Joe started telling me how much he loved me and how lucky he felt to be with me. He then got down on one knee and asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I was very shocked as Joe is a very private person and I never imagined he would propose in such a public setting. I believe my response was not rated PG, but I was absolutely overwhelmed with joy and the word ‘Yes’ was in there somewhere! After the moment passed, Joe said we should go to the bar downstairs and get a bottle of champagne to celebrate together, so we jumped in the elevator and as the doors opened, our friends and family were all there cheering for us. Joe had told our nearest and dearest that he was going to propose and organised a surprise engagement party. It’s one of the best days of my life and one of the most thoughtful and beautiful things anyone has ever done for me.”

“Our wedding was unconventional, with part one on 9 August 2021 – the ceremony with only 20 people allowed due to Covid lockdown and part two on 11 November 2021 - the reception. There were so many highlights: My husband crying when we read our vows. I had never seen him cry! The amount of love shown to us by those who couldn’t be with us due to the Covid restrictions - I had friends drive from Brisbane to the Gold Coast just so they could see me in my dress and share a glass of champagne with me while I got ready. As restaurants had reopened on 9 August 2021, we were able to go out for dinner with our wedding party and a few extra friends who joined us after our vows. Sitting in an Italian restaurant in Broadbeach, in my wedding dress with our nearest and dearest was perfect in its own weird way. My dress was designed to have the lace on the skirt removable to present a different look along with a quick hairstyle change from introducing us as married and having photos with family and friends, to our entrance at the reception. Also being able to wear it for a second time! Our entrance to the reception was our first dance to ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift. Being able to include our dogs and get special photos with them as they were supposed to be at our ceremony (one as the ring bearer). Despite our wedding not being what we had planned, it was still magic and I wouldn’t change a thing! Plus, what bride gets to wear her wedding dress twice?”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is if you have the money to get married, keep your engagement period short. Planning a wedding is high stress, why drag out the time you’re doing it and prolong that pressure? Go with the flow and don’t let the small things steal your joy. Something is always going to go wrong - embrace it, roll with it, don’t let it take away from the real reason you’re having a wedding to begin with! Don’t be afraid to think outside the norm. Ask for discounts or for things a vendor may not have even thought of, for instance, we asked our videographers, Feather and Finch Photography to provide a video of our vows for us to share with our guests at our reception so they felt connected to our special moment and share in the emotion. They were wonderful in adhering to our request and were kind enough to not charge us any extra for the additional work. We were supposed to be getting ready at the venue on the day, but couldn’t due to Covid so had to get ready at our hotel. I had forgotten about needing to get to The Valley Estate, so I thought ‘stuff it, I’m getting a limo’ and I called a company the morning of the wedding and they had a driver available so we just rolled with it!”

For our honeymoon we soaked up the sun and lazed about at the InterContinental on Hayman Island. It was an absolute dream honeymoon with stunning beaches, incredible snorkelling and we even indulged in a six-course private degustation and wine pairing under the stars by Executive Chef, Craig Robertson.

“ Our wedding theme was Soft Romantic with a dusty pink and purple colour palette inspired by lavender fields. Congratulations KITTY & KYLE 18.2.22

Kitty and Kyle met at a dog cafe. “Kyle asked me to marry him when we were on holiday overseas. After dinner one evening he asked me to come sit outside the villa. Before I headed back inside (due to the mosquitoes), Kyle did a quick ‘Superman-like’ turn, knelt to the floor and pulled out a ring from his pocket and proposed. It happened so quickly and unexpectedly, and was so memorable and perfect.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to delegate tasks by asking family and friends to help organise the wedding and don’t try to do everything yourself. Rehearse walking down the aisle and the bridal party entrance at reception. Make a small list of your priorities and focus on them, and don’t worry about having everything go perfectly. Have an MC. Relax and enjoy yourself as the only thing that really matters is getting married to your other half.”

“We spent our honeymoon in Tropical North Queensland.”

Revitalise and relax with HydroGlow, a non-surgical cosmetic injectable micro-filler treatment that focuses on the surface layer of the skin to holistically boost hydration and collagen across the whole treatment area. We recommend monthly sessions up to the Big Day.

1 WEEK BEFORE Microdermabrasion

Get an instant glow with Microdermabrasion –the treatment that gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells, stimulating blood flow and leaving your skin refreshed and radiant. Perfect for a last-minute top up, this relaxing and satisfying treatment will ensure you look your absolute best.

Our traditional wedding was based around our culture. For our white wedding, we wanted something classy, chic and simple. We brought some of the African style of wedding to Australia and as we were unable to have our family there, we made it as fun as possible.

Congratulations VICTORY & CHIDERA 4.12.21 & 11.12.21 “

Victory Egwurube and Chidera Chukwukezie met at a friend’s party. Victory describes the proposal: “It was beautiful! Chidera organised the event with two of my friends. He invited a few of our close friends who thought they were attending a dinner/birthday party. He surprised everyone and myself as well. The proposal was on a rooftop in Hamilton with lights, food and drinks set up for a beautiful surprise.”

“Our traditional African wedding was held in Rockhampton on 4 December 2021. Our Australian wedding was held in Brisbane on 11 December 2021. We had so many highlights. Our bridal party were amazing and were so supportive. Being married to the love of my life is the best thing! The reception at the Emporium Hotel was also one of the best highlights.”

“We spent our honeymoon at Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay.”

For our traditional wedding we wanted to bring a bit of Nigeria to Australia as we were unable to have all our family with us due to Covid. We had great support from family, friends and our aseobi (bridal party) to ensure a successful day. Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to plan in advance. It is important to know what you want and not to limit yourself.

Congratulations CASSANDRA & MICHAEL 6.5.22

We are extremely happy we decided to have a very simple but different wedding. Many would think hiking down a mountain for two hours in a wedding dress isn’t a good idea on your wedding day!

Cassandra March and Michael Kirkland met at a club in Brisbane in 2014. “We exchanged numbers at the end of the night then met up again two months later. Not long after our initial date we decided to move in together and haven’t been apart since.”

“Mick proposed to me on Valentine’s Day 2022. He had planned an entire day for us at Moreton Island. It was a very windy day unfortunately so some of his plans did not go smoothly, including the way he had planned to propose. He planned to hire a small boat to go to the shipwrecks and propose in the calm seas, however the seas were not calm and we ended up having to turn around not long after leaving the beach. We were drenched in sea water and Mick’s bag was wet! He was panicking about the ring box getting wet and as soon as we were back on shore, he started pulling the bag apart, took the ring out and sat it on the ground next to me. By the end of the next day, we had already planned the wedding! We spent our honeymoon in Port Douglas, Palm Cove and Cairns.”

Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is as long as you spend the day celebrating with the people who mean the most to you, your day will be perfect, no matter what! Our day was so memorable because of the people we decided to share it with and because we didn’t have any stress or big plans we had to stick to.

Our theme was simple, elegant and natural. The day was stress-free with minimal planning and a highlight was being able to include the closest members of our family in our special day.
