Resumen

En los últimos cuatro meses, el mundo ha enfrentado una doble pandemia que tendrá efectos socioeconómicos significativos con el transcurso del tiempo: el nuevo coronavirus, COVID-19, y la violencia de género y los feminicidios. A pesar de que el COVID-19 llegó a América Latina a finales de febrero, en promedio, en la región se establecieron acciones como el distanciamiento social, cuarentena y el toque de queda 12 días después de que se confirmara el primer caso positivo. Producto de estas medidas y la pausa en las actividades recreativas, educativas, laborales y económicas, algunos países observaron un incremento en la cantidad de denuncias de violencia intrafamiliar y de género. República Dominicana, que es el quinto país con mayor tasa de feminicidios de la región, parece ser la excepción. El objetivo de este análisis es evaluar la situación actual respecto a la violencia de género y los feminicidios en este contexto de emergencia sanitaria en el país. De igual forma, observa el escenario en América Latina y las políticas implementadas para garantizar la seguridad de las mujeres, niñas, niños y adolescentes en contextos de vulnerabilidad.

Abstract:

Over the past four months, the world has faced a double pandemic that will have significant socio-economic effects over time: the new coronavirus, Covid-19, and gender-based violence and femicides. Although Covid-19 arrived in Latin America at the end of February, on average, actions such as social estrangement, quarantine and curfew were established in the region 12 days after the first positive case was confirmed. As a result of these measures and the pause in recreational, educational, labor and economic activities, some countries saw an increase in the number of reports of domestic and gender-based violence. Dominican Republic, which is the fifth highest femicide rate in the region, appears to be the exception. The objective of this analysis is to assess the current situation regarding gender-based violence and femicide in this context of health emergency in the country. Similarly, looking at the scenario in Latin America and the policies implemented to ensure the safety of women, girls, children and adolescents in vulnerable contexts.
