Welcome to our 6th year! Every year things seem to get bigger and better, thanks to the sponsors, building owners and volunteers that help make everything possible. This year we are joined by over 40 new locations which include a mixture of WA icons and amazing homes. As Perth gets larger, blocks seem to get smaller, but our homes seem to get bigger and bigger... Did you know we now have more bedrooms in WA than we have people? It is a scary statistic! We are bombarded with the message that bigger homes are a better investment - but are they? This year we have included several homes that show its not about how much space you have, but how you use it. Homes that use reclaimed materials, small blocks and landscaping to make the most of their location, readily available materials and passive design principles. Homes that make good design available to all, and remind us it’s not about the money you spend or the size of the space, but working with what you have to make your vision a reality. Insider Tips What is this Open House Perth business? We are a not-for-profit organisation that LOVES local design and want to share it with you completely for free during our event weekend November 11-12! Read the Event Guide and Website Carefully. While Open House Perth would love to unlock all our destinations over the whole event weekend, unfortunately this is not possible. Please look up each destination for the dates and times of their opening hours, so that you don’t miss out. How do I get inside? Look out for an Open House Perth banner, poster or one of our friendly volunteers. If you want to visit a destination that requires booking (or ballot) this must be done through our website - you will receive confirmation a few days prior to the event. Some like it hot! Remember it can get pretty hot in November, so if you are out and about don’t forget to slip, slop, slap, and drink plenty of water. So many destinations, so little time... We recommend you plan ahead of time - with 105 spaces to see it’s a good idea to make a list of your favourite destinations and when they are open. Limited capacity Unfortunately some destinations simply can’t fit everyone. If you are super keen to see something get there early. Be in the loop For all the latest event information and weekend updates stay tuned to Open House Perth social media or subscribe to our e-news. How do I get around? Where do I park? Please remember that some of our destinations, particularly homes, have limited parking. We recommend you carpool, or better yet walk, ride or catch public transport. Travelling with Uber is another great way to get around (no parking, no problems!) Don’t worry, be happy! Our volunteers and organisers are helping out because they love the city. Please be kind and courteous to these super duper people.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE Welcome to our 6th birthday! WA is not only home to some of the most exciting Architects and Designers and designers around, its also home to some of the most passionate design enthusiasts who are helping to transform our expectations of good/sustainable design by commissioning great design. Open House Perth gives people unique access to great examples of these projects along with key locations from our past, in order to help understand why they are good - its like doing a crash course in Architecture and Design! Good design is not only about the “prettiness” of a project, but an audience’s ability to understand why it is good. We have the collective opportunity to reshape our built environment into a lasting legacy for future generations, where we acknowledge a diverse cultural heritage, build to a higher standard, go for quality over quantity and work towards a “greener” environment. I would like to send out some special thank you’s... Every year the Open House Perth team, volunteers, building owners, sponsors and audience blow me away with their enthusiasm and generosity. Thank you to the Open House Perth Board who are incredibly supportive and have helped me to grow so much, along with the Open House Perth Ambassadors who devote so much time and energy to promoting the event.
