The conference brought Lutheran theology teachers from more
than 23 schools across the United States to OLu’s campus, where they engaged in three days of worship, fellowship, curriculum collaboration, and professional development.
Throughout the spring semester, five students chose to commit
their lives to Christ through multiple baptism services held during Daily Gathering, including Janai Arteaga ‘19 (pictured). During each service, students stood in front of the entire student body
alongside their family and friends to receive the rite of baptism from Campus Pastor Tim Detviler ’79.

ORANGE LUTHERAN 2018-19 ANNUAL REPORT
Performing Arts OLu’s Performing Arts program continues to empower young
artists of all disciplines through incredible classes and productions including some notable moments from this past year’s season.
The Nechita Center for the Arts welcomed over 15,000 patrons in its 18-19 season -- the highest attendance in its 16-year history.
The fall musical, The Wizard of Oz, and spring musical Hairspray brought explosive energy to the stage, while January’s stage play,
The Diary of Anne Frank, became the first stage play to sell out in
Orange Lutheran’s history. The musicals were directed by Chelsey
Everhart ‘05, Director of Dramatic Arts, and Matt Hall ‘04 served as a guest director for The Diary of Anne Frank. The 70-member cast of Hairspray was awarded Orange Lutheran’s first Spirit of the MACY Award, which is the high school equivalent of the Tony Award.
Vocal Performance students performed on a two-week summer tour of Italy, led by Megan (Truckey) Carvale ‘04, Director of
Vocal Performance. For the second year, vocal and instrumental
music departments came together for a combined Spring Concert performance.
In the first half of the 19-20 season, we revisited High School
Musical, which was last performed on the Nechita stage in 2009. In January 2020, William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies comes to life as our winter stage play, followed by our spring musical, Mamma Mia!, in April.

Athletics
It was an unforgettable year for Orange Lutheran athletics. Four Lancer teams won
Trinity League titles (baseball, softball, Boys Tennis, and Girls Water Polo) and 17 teams were represented in the CIF-SS playoffs.
Early in the season, Girls Basketball Head Coach Tom Howard ’94 earned his 200th career win. A few months later, Girls Basketball team completed a Cinderella story
season to win the Division 2AA CIF-SS Championship by one point over Rolling Hills Prep, despite a fifth place finish in the Trinity League and a #12 seed in the playoffs.
The same day, Girls Water Polo was victorious over Laguna Hills to win the CIF SoCal
Division 1 State Championship. Lancer Baseball won their third consecutive title at the National High School Invitational Championship in Cary, North Carolina in April. They also had a historic 27-5 overall record and went 14-1 in Trinity League play.
During the three National Signing Days celebrated on campus, more than forty Lancers committed to competing at the collegiate level in football, baseball, softball, track and field, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. OLu is proud to see students enter the
competitive world of collegiate athletics, continuing to bring glory to God both on and
