Croeso Welcome Helo a chroeso i’n cylchlythyr ar gyfer y tymor newydd, fy nghyntaf fel Cyfarwyddwr Oriel Davies. Rwy'n falch iawn o fod yn ymuno â'r tîm, ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at eich cyfarfod chi dros y blwyddyn nesaf wrth i ni adael misoedd tywyll y gaeaf y tu ôl i ni, a theithio tuag at oleuni’r gwanwyn a'r haf. Fel artist yn ogystal â chyfarwyddwr, rwyf wedi gwneud pwynt o wneud gwaith artistiaid mor hygyrch â phosib – wrth gwrs, dylai fod yn heriol ac yn arloesol, ond mae celf i bawb, ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr i glywed eich barn. Rwyf eisiau i artistiaid gael cymaint o sylw â phosib, ond rwyf eisiau i'n cynulleidfa deimlo'n gyfforddus yn siarad â ni hefyd. Mae Oriel Davies yn darparu celf weledol o safon fyd-eang yng nghanolbarth Cymru ar gyfer cymunedau lleol, twristiaid diwylliannol, ac i chi hefyd! Rwy'n gobeithio y bydd ein rhaglen ar gyfer y tymor hwn yn rhoi cyfle i chi feddwl am bethau mewn ffyrdd newydd neu wahanol – wedi'r cyfan – dyna ydy gwaith artistiaid.
Hello and welcome to our new season's brochure, my first as Director of Oriel Davies. I'm delighted to be joining the team, and I look forward to meeting you over the coming year as we leave the dark winter months behind and travel into the light of spring and summer. As an artist as well as a director I've made a point of making artists' work as accessible as possible – of course it should be challenging and innovative, but art is for everyone and I can't wait to hear what you think. I want artists to gain as much exposure as possible but I also want our audience to feel comfortable talking to us. Oriel Davies delivers world-class visual art in mid Wales for local communities, cultural tourists, and in fact, you! I hope our programme for this season will give you a chance to think about things in new or different ways- after all - that's what artists do. A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard Anthony Shapland
10 Chwefror /10 February — 11 Ebrill /April 2018
Mae A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard gan yr artist Anthony Shapland, sy’n byw yng Nghaerdydd, yn archwilio sut rydym yn deall sain a distawrwydd, lleferydd a chyfathrebu. Mae'r sioe bwysig ac amserol hon yn dwyn ynghyd gwaith sy'n cyfuno ffilm, ffotograffiaeth, sain, gwrthrychau a thestun, ac sy'n datgelu’r bylchau rhwng yr hyn sydd yn cael ei weld a’i ddweud, a'r hyn sydd yn cael ei glywed a’i ddeall. Mae gan Shapland ddiddordeb parhaus yn y weithred o wylio ac adolygu delweddau symudol, ac ymwybyddiaeth o sut mae ffuglen yn cael ei chreu trwy olygu darnau o raglenni dogfen. Mae’n amau bod y byd wedi cael ei adeiladu yn yr un modd â set ffilm, sy'n datblygu'n gyson ac yn fyrhoedlog bob amser. Mae A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard yn gyfeiriad uniongyrchol at effeithiau sain Foley mewn ffilm, lle mae seiniau'n cael eu creu’n annibynnol ac ar wahân i'r ddelwedd symudol. Mae gan Anthony ddiddordeb di-baid mewn tawelwch a segurdod, ac nid yw'n eu hystyried fel absenoldeb, ond yn hytrach, fel elfennau y gellir eu dychmygu fel rhywbeth solet. Cefnogir gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru
A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard by Cardiff-based artist Anthony Shapland explores how we understand sound and silence, speech and communication. This important and timely show brings together work combining film, photography, sound, objects and text, which reveals the gaps between what is seen and said and what is heard and understood. Shapland has an ongoing fascination with the act of viewing and reviewing moving-image, and an awareness of how fiction is created through the editing of documentary footage. He has a suspicion that the world is constructed in the same way as a film set, constantly evolving and always temporary. A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard is a direct reference to Foley sound effects in film, whereby sounds are created independently and separately from the moving image. Anthony has a recurring interest in silence and inaction and doesn’t consider them an absence but, instead, that they can be imagined as something solid.

Crossed Paths Miranda Whall
Arddangosfeydd Exhibitions
In the summer and autumn of 2017, the artist, wearing a sheep fleece and covered in 14 GoPro cameras crawled, in stages, along 5.5 mile of sheep tracks in the Cambrian uplands: from the peat and heather moorlands high up at Pen y Garn, down through acid grassland and peaty Molinia / rush bogs and finally into the improved pastures and managed farmlands to the Pwllpeiran Upland Research Centre in Cwmystwyth. As a kind of cyborg sheep/human she attempted to document, experience and understand the mountain, its inhabitants and its matter, in relation to her body, moving in an altered state through the landscape.
21 Ebrill /April — 13 Mehefin / June 2018 Mae Crossed Paths yn cynnwys tri phrosiect gan yr artist Miranda Whall, sy'n byw yn Aberystwyth, a gafodd eu creu rhwng 2017 a 2021 yng Nghymru, yr Alban a Ffrainc. Mae'r rhain yn dwyn ynghyd ffilm, perfformiad a’r corff yn symud, mynydd ac ecoleg ucheldirol: gyda phob prosiect yn adrodd stori mynydd o safbwynt gwahanol. Mae Oriel Davies yn cyflwyno'r elfen Gymreig trwy gyfrwng gosodiad amlgyfrwng cynhwysol ac arddangosfa gyd-destunol, sy'n cynnig ymateb anghynrychioliadol ac ecolegol i ardal ym Mynyddoedd y Cambria, Gorllewin Cymru. Yn ystod tymor yr haf a’r hydref 2017, penderfynodd yr artist gropian, yn gwisgo cnu defaid ac wedi’i gorchuddio gan 14 o gamerâu GoPro, gam wrth gam, ar hyd 5.5 milltir o draciau defaid yn ucheldiroedd y Cambria: o rostiroedd mawn a grug yn uchel ym Mhen y Garn, i lawr trwy laswelltir asidig a chorsydd Molinia / brwyn mawnog ac yn olaf, i borfeydd wedi’u gwella a thir ffermio rheoledig yng Nghanolfan Ymchwil yr Ucheldir Pwllpeiran yng Nghwmystwyth. Fel rhyw fath o ddafad / dyn Cyborg, roedd hi'n ceisio dogfennu, profi a deall y mynydd, ei drigolion a'i bwrpas, mewn perthynas â'i chorff, gan symud mewn cyflwr newidiedig trwy'r dirwedd.
Mae'r gwaith a’r arddangosfa ganlyniadol yn cynnwys trafodaethau gan yr ymchwilwyr ym Mhwllpeiran, ochr yn ochr ag ymatebion creadigol gan gerddorion lleol, sy’n cynnwys Ric Lloyd, Harriet Earis, Tim Noble, Diarmuid Johnson a Jamper Salmon. Cafwyd cyfraniadau hefyd gan y bardd Zoe Skoulding, yr awdur Phil Smith, y ffotograffydd Hannah Mann a Rhys Thwaites-Jones o Fforest Films, sydd wedi gwneud ffilm ddogfen am y prosiect. Mae cyhoeddiad yn cyd-fynd â’r prosiect. Gallwch ddilyn datblygiad y prosiect ar flog yr artist — www.mirandawhall.space Cefnogir gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Phrifysgol Aberystwyth.
Crossed Paths comprises three projects by Aberystwyth-based artist Miranda Whall, occurring between 2017 and 2021 in Wales, Scotland and France. These bring together film, performance and the body in motion, mountain and upland ecology: each project telling a story of a mountain from a different perspective.
The resulting work and exhibition features discussions by the researchers at Pwllpeiran, alongside creative responses from local musicians including Ric Lloyd, Harriet Earis, Tim Noble, Diarmuid Johnson and Jasper Salmon. Contributions have also been made by poet Zoe Skoulding, writer Phil Smith, photographer Hannah Mann and Rhys Thwaites-Jones of Fforest Films who has made a documentary film about the project. A publication accompanies the project. Development of the project can be followed on the artist’s blog — www.mirandawhall.space Supported by the Arts Council of Wales and Aberystwyth University.

Paul Eastwood: Cyfnod Preswyl Litmus Yn parhau tan 27 Ionawr 2018
Paul Eastwood: Litmus Residency Continues until 27 January 2018
Mae arfer Paul Eastwood yn archwilio celf fel ffurf o gynhyrchiant cymdeithasol ac adrodd stori ddiwylliannol. Gan barhau â’i gyfnod preswyl a ddechreuodd ym mis Rhagfyr 2017, mae Paul yn datblygu ei brosiect uchelgeisiol 'Dyfodiaith', (future-language), sy'n dychmygu ynys anial ryfedd, lle mae'r iaith Frythoneg wedi parhau'n fyw, ac esblygu drwy'r canrifoedd i fod yn rhywbeth rhyfedd ac anghyfarwydd. Mae ‘Dyfodiaith’ yn gofyn: Pa iaith fyddwn ni’n ei siarad yn y dyfodol? Sut fydd yr iaith yn swnio, a sut fydd hi’n edrych?
Paul Eastwood’s practice explores art as a form of social production and cultural storytelling. Continuing his Litmus residency that began in December 2017, Paul progresses his ambitious project ‘Dyfodiaith’ (future – language), which imagines a strange isolated island where the Brythonic language has remained alive, evolving throughout the centuries into something strange and unfamiliar. ‘Dyfodiaith’ asks: What language will we speak in the future? How will it sound and what will it look like?
Freya Dooley: Comisiwn Litmus 10 Chwefror —11 Ebrill 2018 Mae Freya Dooley yn gweithio gyda thestun, delweddau symudol, sain a pherfformiad. Yn ddiweddar, mae ei hymchwil wedi archwilio hanesynnau, lled-ffuglenni a chymeriadaeth leisiol; a chyfeirio at lenyddiaeth, cerddoriaeth bop, canu a recordiwyd ymlaen llaw, gwleidyddiaeth rywiol rhaglenni sebon a Mytholeg Roegaidd. Ar gyfer ei Chomisiwn Litmus, mae Freya yn defnyddio'r gofod Litmus fel cynhwysydd personol ar gyfer gosodiad delwedd symudol a sain aml-sianel. Mae'r gwaith yn crwydro oddi wrth stori’r nymff, Echo, er mwyn creu naratifau chwedlonol troellog, sy'n ymwneud â cholli, gollwng a threiddio'r llais. Cefnogir Litmus gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru. Freya Dooley: Litmus Commission 10 February—11 April 2018 Freya Dooley works with text, moving image, sound and performance. Recently, her research has explored anecdotes, semi-fictions and vocal characterisations; referencing literature, pop music, playbacksinging, the sexual politics of soap operas and Greek Mythology. For her Litmus Commission, Freya uses the Litmus space as an intimate container for a moving image and multi-channel sound installation. The work digresses from the story of Echo the nymph, to create meandering lyrical narratives relating to the loss, leakage and leverage of the voice. Litmus is supported by the Arts Council of Wales For more information, updates and news, please go to – www.orieldavies.org/en/litmus

Bydd amser yn cael ei dreulio hefyd, yn edrych ar gyfleoedd i fyfyrwyr sy'n dymuno hyrwyddo a datblygu eu gwaith ymhellach, gan gynnwys cyflwyno gwaith i gystadlaethau a chylchgronau.
Poetry 2 Wednesdays 11 April — 13 June 2018 10.15am—12.30pm Lara Clough This module is suitable for people who have some experience of writing. The sessions will be workshop-based, with an emphasis on discussing published poems from a writer's perspective and critiquing work written by participants each week. Poetic forms, such as the sonnet and the villanelle, including narrative, confessional and metaphorical, will be covered. Some time will also be spent looking at opportunities for students wishing to promote and develop their work further, including submitting work to competitions and magazines.
Ysgolion a Cholegau Schools & Colleges

Cydweithredu a Gweithio mewn Partneriaeth Mae arddangosfeydd a phrosiectau artistiaid Oriel Davies yn darparu adnoddau amrywiol ac ysbrydoledig ar gyfer cefnogi dysgu ar draws y cwricwlwm. Mae ein prosiectau mwyaf llwyddiannus gydag ysgolion a cholegau yn cael eu datblygu mewn partneriaeth ag athrawon a disgyblion. Rydym yn arbennig o falch o weld athrawon yn cysylltu â ni gyda syniad yr hoffent fynd ar ei drywydd gyda ni, neu a fyddai'n hoffi archwilio sut allai dysgu yn y dyfodol elwa o ddefnyddio ein harddangosfeydd a sgiliau ein hartistiaid i gefnogi eu cynlluniau gwaith mewn ffyrdd newydd a chyffrous. Gallai prosiectau o'r fath gyfuno ymweliadau i arddangosfeydd, gweithdai dan arweiniad artistiaid, gweithgareddau allgymorth yn yr ysgol neu mewn safleoedd eraill, a chyfleoedd hyd yn oed i gymryd rhan mewn arddangosfeydd yn yr oriel.
Collaboration & Partnership Oriel Davies’ exhibitions and artists’ projects provide a diverse and inspiring resource for supporting learning across the curriculum. Our most successful projects with schools and colleges are developed in partnership with teachers and pupils. We particularly welcome approaches from teachers with an idea they’d like to pursue with us or who would like to explore how future teaching could benefit from using our exhibitions and artists’ skills to support their schemes of work in new and exciting ways. Such projects could combine exhibition visits, artist-led workshops, outreach activities at school or other sites and even opportunities to take part in exhibitions at the gallery.
Help gyda Chyllid Gall Cronfa Profi’r Celfyddydau Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ddarparu grantiau i helpu ysgolion gyda chostau teithio a gweithgareddau, a gallwn roi cyngor i chi gyda’ch cais.
