The La Cholla Boulevard Widening Project—the final phase of a decade-long partnership between the Town of Oro Valley, Pima County and the Regional Transportation Authority to widen La Cholla Blvd.—has entered the homestretch. With approximately 20 months of construction on the final phase under our belt, this project will reach final completion in late September. Substantial completion (when all the lanes are open) should occur in mid to late August. We are almost there! So what’s left? The upper pavement section between Lambert Lane and Overton Road is scheduled to be paved August 7. This will take approximately a week and a half to complete, and entrances to properties will be temporarily affected. The contractor continues to landscape the project between Naranja Drive and Overton Road. All landscaping is scheduled to be complete by August 24. The plan to widen La Cholla Boulevard from Magee Road to Tangerine Road began in June 2009. Pima County oversaw construction on the section of the road from Magee to Overton. The design for that phase was complete in October 2011 and construction was completed in July 2014. The Town of Oro Valley has been the project manager on the final phase that widens La Cholla between Overton and Tangerine. Design was complete in late 2017. Construction began in late 2018. The Town of Oro Valley would like to thank our partners, the Regional Transportation Authority, Pima County, Hunter Contracting and AECOM. And thank you to all the residents, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians for your patience these past two years as we worked together to build a community with safe and efficient roads. Enjoy the drive, OV!
