The La Cholla Boulevard Widening Project—the final phase of a decade-long partnership between the Town of Oro Valley, Pima County and the Regional Transportation Authority to widen La Cholla Blvd.—has entered the homestretch. With approximately 20 months of construction on the final phase under our belt, this project will reach final completion in late September. Substantial completion (when all the lanes are open) should occur in mid to late August. We are almost there! So what’s left? The upper pavement section between Lambert Lane and Overton Road is scheduled to be paved August 7. This will take approximately a week and a half to complete, and entrances to properties will be temporarily affected. The contractor continues to landscape the project between Naranja Drive and Overton Road. All landscaping is scheduled to be complete by August 24. The plan to widen La Cholla Boulevard from Magee Road to Tangerine Road began in June 2009. Pima County oversaw construction on the section of the road from Magee to Overton. The design for that phase was complete in October 2011 and construction was completed in July 2014. The Town of Oro Valley has been the project manager on the final phase that widens La Cholla between Overton and Tangerine. Design was complete in late 2017. Construction began in late 2018. The Town of Oro Valley would like to thank our partners, the Regional Transportation Authority, Pima County, Hunter Contracting and AECOM. And thank you to all the residents, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians for your patience these past two years as we worked together to build a community with safe and efficient roads. Enjoy the drive, OV!

SAFER AT HOME. BE RESPONSIBLE. GET THE LATEST ORO VALLEY NEWS AND EVENT UPDATES As this newsletter went to press, COVID-19 cases and related hospitalizations across Arizona and right here in Pima County have continued to rise. Governor Ducey issued a June 29 executive order closing gyms, movie theaters and bars for at least 30 days. That order meant closing the Oro Valley Community and Recreation Center as well as implementing additional safety protocols at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center. So be sure you’re checking the Town’s website or following us on social media to keep track of how these changes impact our community. Additionally, Mayor Winfield issued a proclamation on June 25, 2020, adopting Pima County’s requirement to wear a face covering when you are in public and unable to maintain social distancing. While information on the pandemic is constantly evolving, one thing remains true: We need to stay informed and do our part to keep ourselves and each other safe. Continue to practice social distancing, hand washing, wearing a face covering and staying home if you are sick. Stay up-to-date on how COVID-19 is impacting services and facilities right here in Oro Valley by following us on social media or visiting the Town’s website at www.orovalleyaz.gov.
