The La Cholla Blvd. improvements from Magee Road to Tangerine Road are part of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan approved by Pima County voters in 2006. The project aims to reduce congestion, improve safety and provide additional capacity. As part of this multi-phased effort, a small portion of La Cholla will be completely closed, from January 27 through April 22, weather pending. The affected section is just south of Lambert Lane to Overton Road. Safety precautions were the number one factor in deciding to close the roadway rather than reduce lanes. A detour route has been established and is available on the Town’s website, along with additional project details. Please visit www.orovalleyaz.gov.

It’s Census time! Did you know that census data determines how more than $675 billion are spent for state, county and local programs and services? Census data also impacts congressional and legislative redistricting as well as reapportion to the House of Representatives. Businesses use census data to decide where to build stores and offices. Local government uses the data for public safety and emergency preparedness. The list goes on. And in 2020, it will be easier than ever to take the census, now that it is available online. (By the way, federal law protects your census responses and ensures it cannot be shared with other agencies.) If you are a part-time resident (e.g. snowbird), your census residency should be wherever you spend a majority of the year. If your time is split equally between multiple homes, then reference the residence you are in on April 1, 2020. To learn more, visit orovalleyaz.gov/census2020. Pro tip: I f you want to avoid having census workers visit your home to fill out the 2020 Census, be sure to complete it before April 1, 2020!

Your government @ work: Golder Ranch Fire District Although the Golder Ranch Fire District is a separate agency from the Town of Oro Valley, the men and women at GRFD have been long-time friends and partners, working side-by-side with the Town to ensure the safety of Oro Valley’s residents and guests. (While some Oro Valley residents may have a different fire service provider, GRFD covers a majority of our residents.) In addition to providing standard fire protection and first responder services, Golder Ranch offers fire and injury prevention programs in our schools; they team up with the Oro Valley Police Department and Town staff to prepare for community-wide emergency response; they offer mobile health services; they provide a warm presence and added layer of public safety at our year-round special events, and so much more. While the Town of Oro Valley does not levy a property tax, Oro Valley homeowners do pay property taxes to Pima County and special districts, such as the Golder Ranch Fire District. GRFD is another great example of your tax dollars hard at work. To learn more, visit grfdaz.gov.
