Newsletter January 2020

OV Parks & Rec needs YOUR input! Oro Valley Parks and Recreation is working with PROS Consulting to conduct a needs assessment and develop a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation System Plan. The goal of this plan is to meet the recreational needs of current and future Oro Valley residents. Community feedback is the crucial first step in that needs assessment, so we need your help! The consultant has set up a website where residents can make suggestions, take a survey, and review presentations and key findings. So please be sure to visit www.planyourparksov.com and click on PARTICIPATE in the menu.

THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!

This column usually focuses on Town of Oro Valley employees, but this month, we wanted to spotlight our volunteers because they also play a critical role in making local government work! You may be surprised to learn that there are about 300 volunteers who donate thousands of hours of their time each year to this community. Some of them serve on Council-appointed boards and commissions, such as Planning & Zoning, Parks & Recreation, Historic Preservation, Water Utility and more. There are also several non-Council-appointed volunteer groups such as the Youth Advisory Council, Arts & Culture Ambassadors and the Citizen Volunteer Assistants Program (CVAP) to name a few. Our volunteers work hard to bolster Town programs and extend Town resources far beyond funding levels. Simply put: Oro Valley would not be the community it is today without our volunteers. Thank you!

Spring 2020 Program Guide available now As the Town of Oro Valley’s Parks and Recreation offerings continue to grow and evolve, so do our methods of connecting residents with the information they need. Last summer, Parks & Recreation improved their online processes by launching CivicRec. And with these improvements in place, the seasonal Program Guide has evolved from a 40-page booklet to a four-page overview that we were able to publish with the December 18 Explorer Newspaper. Don’t worry—all your favorite programs are still there (and even some new ones)! But this condensed format allows us to put this information in the hands of thousands of residents without increasing any costs. And all the details you need are still available online. So if you didn’t keep your Explorer copy, be sure to visit OroValleyAZ.gov for complete details on all the recreational programs and special events that await you in 2020!
