James D. Kriegh Park This year’s July 4th Celebration and fireworks will be moved to James D. Kriegh (JDK) Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia. The free, family-friendly fun begins at 5 p.m. and concludes with a spectacular fireworks show at 9 p.m. This year’s event includes a full line-up of live entertainment, a beer/wine garden, food trucks and a Kids Zone, complete with bounce houses, bubble balls, face painting, games and crafts. Once again, our presenting sponsor is HSL and El Conquistador, a Hilton Resort. For complete details, including parking, safety tips and rules, entertainment schedule, food truck list and special activities and admission prices at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, visit the event page at www.orovalleyaz.gov.

Your government @ work: Parks & Recreation The Town of Oro Valley’s Parks and Recreation Department works hard year-round to plan and manage a variety of special events, such as the upcoming July 4th Celebration and the annual Celebrate Oro Valley at Steam Pump Ranch, held in April. Special events are critical to building community. They provide safe and fun places and opportunities for people to gather with the whole family and friends. The activities the public enjoys on event day are the culmination of a months-long process of planning and cross-department collaboration, including public safety and parking (Police), permitting and inspections (Public Works), sponsorship and advertising (Town Manager’s Office), and much more. Leading the charge on all these logistics is the creative and energetic staff of your Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Department. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for all the latest event info!

When’s the next free shredding event? Usually around tax time, the Town of Oro Valley holds a free shredding event for residents, and many of you have inquired as to the date of this year’s event. We will still hold a shredding event this year, but due to scheduling challenges, it has been moved to the fall. So hang on to those documents and mark your calendars for Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 8 a.m. to noon (or until the trucks are full) at the Oro Valley Marketplace. You may also drop off clothing/shoes and items for electronic recycling. This event is free thanks to generous funding by AARP and our partnership with the Oro Valley Marketplace.
