Naranja Park playground construction Construction has begun on the much-anticipated playground at Naranja Park! As you can imagine, a playground this size requires major infrastructure work to address drainage, access and parking needs, so that NARANJA DR means there will be construction zones and some temporary inconveniences. The good news is the park will continue to operate as usual, with access to the fields, dog parks and archery ranges. The (not so) bad news is the main entrance will be closed off during construction, so park users must enter from Tangerine Road via Musette Drive, as pictured in the detour map. Only the archery ranges will still be accessible from Naranja Drive. This entrance detour will be in place for about a month. As this newsletter went to press, a construction schedule was still being finalized, so be sure to check the Town’s website and social media for the latest updates. TANGERINE RD
Thank you, Chief!

After 20 years of service with the Town of Oro Valley and 41 total years of service in law enforcement, Police Chief Danny Sharp has retired. Under Chief Sharp’s leadership, public safety has become part of the Town’s brand, as evidenced by designations such as “Arizona’s Safest City.” Chief ’s philosophy of community policing has become foundational to the culture of OVPD—a culture that will continue to thrive as leadership is transitioned to Chief Kara Riley. Thank you, Chief Sharp, for your years of service and the legacy of excellence that you leave behind!

After a nationwide recruitment effort, Oro Valley Town Council voted to appoint Kara Riley as the next chief of police, effective February 22, 2020. Riley was selected from among 70 applicants to succeed Police Chief Danny Sharp who retired in February. Riley has been with the Oro Valley Police Department since 2004, most recently serving as commander, overseeing field services. During her tenure with OVPD, she has served as executive officer, patrol lieutenant and support services lieutenant. Prior to OVPD, Riley was a police officer and police sergeant with the Tucson Airport Authority for 11 years. A warm welcome to Oro Valley’s new Police Chief Kara Riley!
