OCTOBER 8-13, 2024 • ORPHEUM THEATRE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO
Welcome to Duluth, Minnesota in the year 1934!
I think you will find GirlFromtheNorthCountry to be, as the New York Times said, “a profoundly beautiful show.” The songs of Bob Dylan are woven into the story by Connor McPherson in a manner that is not only seamless, but wonderfully moving.
The Orpheum Theatre Group, along with our Independent Presenters Network colleagues, served as Co-Producers on the 2020 Broadway run of this show. The production garnered a Best Musical Nomination in that shortened Tony Award season. Unfortunately, it had a relatively brief life span in New York City.
I attended the Girl From the North Country opening on March 5, 2020 just prior to Broadway shutting down on March 12. It is difficult to gain momentum on Broadway in just a week of performances.
Post-pandemic, the show opened again but was closed shortly thereafter due to theatre availability. Subsequently, it reopened for a final time and ran from April to June of 2022. It is widely considered the only non-revival show in Broadway history to have three opening nights. Sadly, this touching show exemplifies COVID’s impact on our industry.
That is one of the reasons I am happy we can bring the show to you today! You can experience it in Memphis despite what happened to it in New York City.
Next up on our Broadway Season is the spectacular Moulin Rouge! The Musical. It features a terrific collection of songs and will fill the Orpheum with spectacle like this grand old theatre has never seen before. You do not want to miss it.
Thank you for being here today. Thank you for being a fan of Broadway theatre. Thank you for supporting the Orpheum Theatre Group.
Enjoy Girl From the North Country!
Brett Batterson President & CEO Orpheum Theatre Group
