THEATRE

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Welcome to MJ! I am excited you are here and spending the next couple of hours at the Orpheum with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

I am equally ecstatic that this performance marks the beginning of our 2024-2025 Broadway Season at the Orpheum, made possible with the support of Memphis Area Honda Dealers, Pinnacle Financial Partners and the Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis. It will be a wonderful season full of spectacular stories, iconic music, and the best of Broadway!

Following MJ, we will present GirlFromtheNorthCountry in early October, followed by Moulin Rouge!TheMusical, which opens at the end of that month and runs into the first week of November. Both are wonderful theatrical experiences you will not want to miss. Girl From the North Country weaves twenty classic Bob Dylan songs into a touching tale about a group of travelers who meet in a Duluth, Minnesota guest house at the height of the American depression. MoulinRouge! The Musical brings the Baz Luhrmann film to life in a stage version that is spectacle of the highest order. A feast for the eyes and a sensory extravaganza packed with songs you know by heart.

The rest of the season includes the timeless family show, PeterPan, plus Hamilton, Some Like It Hot, KimberlyAkimbo and The Wiz

Everyone knows these classic stories and films, with perhaps the exception of KimberlyAkimbo.

Here is my prediction for those who are unfamiliar with this show: KimberlyAkimbo will be the sleeper hit of our whole season! If you miss it, you will be tremendously disappointed. The show won five Tony Awards in 2023, including the most coveted award – Best Musical! I am proud the Orpheum Theatre Group was an investor in the Broadway production, garnering our fifth win in the Best Musical category.

Believe me, if you have any hesitation, this show is funny, touching, sweet, and engaging. In fact, I recommended the show to dozens of Memphians who visited New York City during its run, and I do not know one of them that was disappointed after seeing it. Put it on your calendar now or buy a season ticket if you have not done so already. KimberlyAkimbo will be the show to see in our spring line-up!

Today, however, enjoy the iconic music, dance and story of Michael Jackson! Welcome to the opening production of our 2024-2025 Broadway Season!
