These are timed, hardcore rides, meant to test your abilities and take your riding experience and knowledge to the next level. They will tax your energy and your skills, as they can and do take you off the beaten path and onto the paved secondary back-roads with the twisty turns and the switchbacks that are exhilarating and challenging and will provide you with real riding stories to tell when you gather with fellow riders that from that point on that don’t revolve around the best area donuts shops. You might even be the catalyst that spurs on others to take a shot at the next Ride. Real question is - Do YOU have what it takes? Spring Ride: 500 Miles, 1000 Miles and NEW 2500 Miles Joining three provinces. www.CannonballRides.ca

These 35 men and women have faced and struggled in their own lives and have been used as a powerful and effective tool to inspire, support and encourage others in recovery. The Freedom Ride has grown to be at multiple locations and various dates across the province. The Freedom Ride raises funds to allow Teen Challenge to minister to wounded and broken men and women looking for freedom from life controlling drug and alcohol addictions. oriented and is one of the very few clubs that has a very strict no alcohol or drug rule during any rides. Our style of riding is very structured and again we strive to be as safe as possible during all events and rides. The CMC has approximately 5500 members across Canada with 90 plus chapters spread out in all Provinces and Territories. While it is totally up to the local chapter, most chapters are very involved within their local communities by participating in various fund raisers for local needs. At our annual Anniversary brunch held in November we generally present over $10,000.00 to our local Children’s Wish Foundation, our St John’s Newfoundland chapter raised over $20,000 at a weekend event just this past month. Giving back to the community is a big part of the CMC lifestyle and purpose. www.cmcnational.ca

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF
1967 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX It
was 50 years ago. The first and only Canadian Motorcycle Grand Prix road race was held at Mosport
Park - now named Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – on a chilly and rainy day in September, 1967. 1967 was the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Federation, and a major year for world championship road racing. With support from the Canadian Centennial Commission, plus the sanctioning of
the FIM and promoted by the CMA, top racers came from Europe, Canada, the US and many other countries. The Canadian GP was held September 30, 1967. The major factories sent their best riders and latest hi-tech bikes. Honda brought its amazing 6-cylinder 250cc machine and 500cc four for Mike Hailwood. Giacomo Agostini rode the new MV Agusta 500cc 3-cylinder machine, and Yamaha sent it’s 125cc and 250cc fours for Bill Ivy and Phil Read. With a second place in the 500cc event, Giacomo Agostini secured his third world championship title. It was a truly memorable event. To celebrate the 1967 Grand Prix of Canada, the Vintage Road Race Association (VRRA) is expanding its annual road race weekend to be held August 11-13,
THE
2017 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Many famous riders from that 1967 Canadian GP have been invited, including 15-time world champion Giacomo Agostini, Canadian champions Michelle Duff, Yvon du Hamel and Steve Baker, plus world champion Phil Read, Rod Gould and many other racers. The weekend will feature expanded sponsorship and displays, plus will include historic race bikes and photo presentations, swap meet, autograph sessions with many famous riders, plus a Saturday evening rock show. This will be a very memorable event. Be sure to mark your calendar, and plan to attend this rewarding and historically significant weekend. Go to www.vrra.ca for complete information

elcome to the 2017 SUPERSHOW, and as you wander the halls here during the weekend, we hope you manage to take in the stunning Century of Motorcycles Exhibition, a Red Carpet classic exhibit, a truly remarkable display with a brilliant array of various vintage collector bikes and the oldest motorcycles present at the show. These old bikes are referred to as “vintage motorcycles”, and countless riders over the years have helped to preserve and maintain them in proper mechanical condition so that they may still be ridden. Old motorcycles sound different because they were created during earlier time periods. They possess a character unequalled by the shiny and new, and they are here for you. Every Father’s Day in June, these bikes along with hundreds of others from miles around make the trek to a lovely little town called Paris. Paris is a scenic, historic Ontario town located on the Grand River, approximately one hundred kilometres southwest of this building. There at the fairgrounds, registered rally-goers may camp for the entire
weekend surrounded by hundreds of other friends and family, all sharing in the passion for cool old two-wheelers. The Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group hosts this annual rally and the most common remark we hear from visitors is, “Wow, I’ve never seen one of those before!” Various rally events are organized and held during the three-day event. Additionally, several thousand visitors will make the trip and pass through the gates on those warm, sunny June days. They come to ogle the bikes, perhaps find that elusive used part in the swap meet area, needed to complete a restoration or just sit down for a few minutes to talk with someone who owns an old motorcycle. So often, meeting the owners of these
vintage motorcycles is the most fun of all. If you like old motorcycles, it all happens in Paris, in June. You can expect to see bikes from every continent and usually pre-dating the first great war, 1914-1918. It is perhaps the largest gathering of its kind in Canada and quite an exceptional showcase, with lots to see and do. In June 2017 we will celebrate 45 years of this annual family-friendly event. With the introduc on of the next genera on of Harley-Davidson V-Twin engines for 2017, aptly name the Milwaukee-Eight, the new motor will certainly retain those visceral traits, while ushering in new technology, more torque and more power. models, the new Milwaukee-Eight is without ques on, the biggest news for Harley-Davidson in 2017. Not only does the new engine tout greater displacement, but the four-valve head configura on has a greater compression ra o, resul ng in 10% more torque. Harley-Davidson claims the new power configura on delivers quicker accelera on, (as much as 3 bike-lengths in 0-60mph runs compared to the Twin Cam it replaces). But the motor serves up more than just power. Improved heat management will keep both driver and passenger cooler; reduced vibra on should result in a more refined feel; and

With the Z900 it starts with a new liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 948cc engine designed to complement the Z900 chassis. The twin-spar design uses high-tensile steel and was designed using the fewest number of bends possible. The more the frame could employ straight lines, the stronger it could be. MORE NEW FOR 2017
The new air intake system was designed for both increased power and a pleasing audible sound for the driver. The longer inner intake tubes boost low to midrange power, while the shorter outer tubes deliver an enhanced intake note. Joining the new Z900 is slightly smaller displacement version with the same new features as its bigger brethren. Available in both standard and ABS models, the twin-cylinder middleweight supernaked motorcycle packs a torque laden punch with a nimbleness that is unmatched.
The new Z125 PRO looks to capitalize on the naked pocket bike craze that is sweeping the backstreets of cities across North America. Weighing in at just under 225lbs and with a low seat height of just 30.7-inches, the bike combines edgy looks, extreme nimbleness and of course fun in a compact and affordable package.
No question, the adventure motorcycle segment is one of the most popular in the industry and Kawasaki looks to break ground with the new for 2017 Versys-X 300. With power coming from a parallel twin cylinder, air-cooled engine housed in a full-size frame, the only thing holding this bike back from the backroads and forgotten trails is your imagination. A dual throttle valve intake delivers hesitationfree and jerk-free response; and the same Assist & Slipper Clutch found on much bigger Kawasaki bikes provides easy lever pull and reduced negative deceleration traits such as tire hop or skidding. The Versys-X 300 is also available with an optional Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

THE LEGEND OF THE MACH III With an audacious three-cylinder engine and the dragstrip wizardry of Tony Nicosia, the 1969 Kawasaki H1 immediately became a performance icon.
With the 2017 model year, Kawasaki celebrates 50-years of motorcycles in the United States. As part of this celebraধon, Kawasaki has been revisiধng some of their most iconic motorcycles…ground breaking bikes that have altered the course of not just Kawasaki motorcycles, but the enধre industry. New for 2017 models such as the Z900 and Ninja 650 have roots that trace far back in Kawasaki’s development lineage. One such motorcycle was the Mach III.

hen it comes to performance, few motorcycles in the last 50 years created the impact that Kawasaki’s 500 Mach III two-stroke triple did in 1969. Coming right on the heels of the 350cc A7 Avenger, the Mach III (also known as the “H1” model) vaulted performance to new heights, at an equally amazing price of just $999. Sharpening its point, the H1 quickly set acceleraধon records, with Tony Nicosia making a ¼-mile run of 12.96 seconds at 100.7 miles per hour aboard the raging triple. A highly accomplished drag racer, Nicosia was also a Kawasaki service technician and development rider for the H1, which had been tested extensively in the Southwest – including near Nevada’s secret military base Area 51. Such rider talent is essenধal in wringing the most out of a bike on the dragstrip, but the underlying machine has to be capable. The Mach III was. Its 499cc piston-port triple was like three highly tweaked two-strokes ganged together, with three Mikuni carburetors, three separate inducধve pickups for its hot CDI igniধon, and three individually tuned exhausts producing a kind of high-intensity acceleraধon no other producধon bike could match. As a result, the language of the H1 – actually a rapturous howl! – immediately became spoken in high-performance motorcycle circles. And the H1 just as quickly became known to car guys, as many a Corveħe, GTO and Mustang owner learned ađer encountering a Kawasaki Mach III.
THE FORKS SUCH RIDER TALENT IS ESSENTIAL IN WRINGING THE MOST OUT OF A BIKE ON THE DRAGSTRIP, BUT THE UNDERLYING MACHINE HAS TO BE CAPABLE. The H1 model run lasted eight years, from the first drum-brake 1969-71 H1 and H1A versions through the disc-brake KH500 swansong in 1976. Finally, the triple became a casualty of emissions laws and was replaced by the four-stroke KZ650 model. But what a run it was. Among its high points were those blistering early runs that Nicosia made at a special press demonstraধon at Lions Drag Strip in Southern California. Here personnel uncrated a brand-new H1 and put Nicosia aboard, where he soon scorched to the world’s first sub 13-second 1/4-mile run on a producধon bike. Although brand-new, the H1’s legend was already secure. In ধme, the audacious H1 became known by a number of nicknames, some of which are not repeatable here. However, all recognized the incredible performance of its seething three-cylinder two-stroke engine, which helped make motorcycling an incredibly exciধng sport in 1969 and beyond. Long live the Kawasaki Mach III.
