Winterthur is a city of art. You can discover international contemporary photography and masters from photography’s past at the Fotomuseum. The Oskar Reinhart am Römerholz and Stadgarten museums and Villa Flora display world-famous works. You would have a hard time finding another city in Switzerland that boasts as many cultural institutions as sophisticated Winterthur. At Switzerland’s only science centre, the Technorama, an amazing world of science is opened before you and you are invited to touch, handle and play with it. about about winterthur Die Römer nannten ihre Siedlung Vitudurum, um 1180 ist die Stadt urkundlich belegt. Heute ist Winterthur die sechstgrösste Stadt mit dem grössten zusammenhängenden Waldgebiet des Kantons Zürich. Die Stadt gilt als Wiege der Schweizer Maschinenindustrie, die sie bis in die 1980er-Jahre prägte. Aus dem einstigen Industriezentrum, dem Sulzer-Areal in der Stadtmitte, sind die grossen Industriebranchen ausgezogen und die Industriehallen wurden Zug um Zug neu belebt, unter anderem mit einer sehr lebendigen Party- und Musiktheaterszene. Einen speziellen Namen macht sich Winterthur als Theater- und Kulturmetropole. Der hohe Familienanteil der Bevölkerung spricht für die ausgezeichnete Lebensqualität. The Romans called their settlement Vitudurum, and around 1180 it is first mentioned in documents. Today, Winterthur is the sixth largest city in Switzerland with the largest continuous forest area of the canton Zurich. The city has been the cradle of the Swiss machine industry, which dominated the city until the 1980s. The large industries have left the Sulzer industrial area in the city center, and the factory buildings now house a very lively party, music and theater scene. Winterthur has also established its reputation as a theater and cultural stronghold. The large number of families among the inhabitants bears witness to Winterthur’s excellent quality of life.
