Ukrainian journalist and producer, whose career in film and TV began with news reporting and highlighting of armed conflicts and their consequences in Liberia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia and eastern Ukraine. Such stories were difficult to compress into 2-minute slots, so Akim started to experiment with larger forms. Made a few documentary films for the TV channel “1+1” and heads the department for journalistic projects “1+1 Production”. For the past 2 years, his realised projects have been awarded with “Teletriumph” as the best documentary films.
Photographed and created video invitations and reports for the events of the Poltava Art Association “Magnum Opus”, in which she combined her passion for photography and film with literature. This is how the video projects “People Read” and “#Vstol” were born. Then – the first Video Academy, short film “Alive and Undefeated”, the “DocuDays” festival and realisation of an overwhelming desire to make documentary films. Now a student at the UCU School of Journalism and the second DOCemotion Video Academy.
Graduated from the Faculty of Film and Television Arts in Kharkiv and from the UCU School of Journalism in Lviv. Enjoys working with video at all stages of production: from an idea to editing. Interning at various TV channels strengthened her desire to work in a team, and taking part in the DOCemotion Video Academy opened up the practical world of documentary film.
Student of Slavonic Studies and Political Science at the University of Potsdam. Volunteered in Kyiv for one year. Has a broad interest in Eastern European, and especially Ukrainian, history.
Lives in Germany where she is working towards a Master’s degree in Fine Arts Education at Berlin University of the Arts, as well as English Language at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. At Berlin University of the Arts, she attends classes taught by a documentary filmmaker Hito Steyerl, where the focus is on installation, photography and film. Annagul wants to be politically and socially active. Currently an active member of the students’ representative council at her University and is also involved in Dialog macht Schule, a civil education programme that fosters personal development and integration in schools. Speaks German, Turkmen, English, Turkish and Russian.
Freelancer at Kyiv Bureau “Radio Liberty”. Graduate of the UCU School of Journalism. Around 3 years ago, filmmaking filled her life, since when she has been seeing everything through lenses. What is the most important in video production is a wellfunctioning team, and the formula for success is the endless love for video and characters, multiplied by professionalism. Co-authored a few short films, one of which got to the finale of the journalistic contest “Honor of the profession”.

A rowdy, accordionist, documentary filmamaker. In the past, he has been the author of journalist investigations (STB, TVi) and a media critic. Now a journalist and videographer at Hromadske.ua, having made around 200 short films for the Hromadske.doc project. Author of the film “Contact” about the exchange of captives, the experimental film “I’ll go to the police”, the gonzo musical “Look at yourself!” about the adventures of Jamala in Stockholm, the films “Invisible” (2016), “Life and death in Gutsulia” (2016), “Genichesk” (2017) and others. Head mentor at the International Video School PIN (Prague, 2016, 2017), co-author of the online course in journalism Thomson Foundation.
Formed as a videographer while working for Hromadske.ua in Lviv. Completed traineeship at the Cinematographers’ Association “Babylon’13”. Graduated from the UCU School of Journalism. It was here that, within the framework of the first DOCemotion Video Academy, together with the team, for the first time she tried herself in a role of a director for the film “Alive and Undefeated”. Darka continues to work at Hromadske.ua in Kyiv. In one year, she became a co-author of the documentary film “Sprouts” and the project “Independence”, and prepared hundreds of materials.

Recently, the author of the travel project “KlyuchNiko” on television. Made a short film about a life situation on a regular train. 22-year-old girl from Munich, living in beautiful Bamberg, a small University town in Bavaria, Germany. She has always been interested in arts as well as media production, hence choosing to study communication science and history of arts to get a better understanding of these fields. In her university town, she usually gets involved in small cultural projects such as organising cultural festivals, music festivals or contemporary art exhibitions.
Works on the periphery of art, theatre, film and theory. Her multi-layered, trans-medial pieces include videos, performances, installations, objects, scripts, costumes, protocols, photography, choreographies, watercolors, etc. Her work investigates issues such as fragmentation, simultaneousness, non-linearity, time-space identity, self-organization, absurdity, phantasm and, last but not least, interruption. After completing her Bachelor degree in Product Design and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Bauhaus University, and spending some time in France, the Netherlands, Ireland and other places.
Videographer at Hromadske.ua. Films, edits, prepares reports. The UCU School of Journalism has taught her everything. In the past year, shot dozens of news stories, a documentary about the theater for special actors, streamed live video during the Eurovision Song Contest and clashes in Kyiv, filmed for the project on languages in Lithuania and Armenia.

Reporter, producer, screenwriter, co-founder of Young&Hungry Production, lecturer at the UCU School of Journalism. Former editor and presenter at NTA, MediaClub and Karpaty TV (television studios in Lviv), and correspondent of the “Perekhrestya” economic journal (USAID). Experienced in roles of a staff correspondent at “1+1” TV channel in Lviv and general producer at “ZIK” TV channel.
Journalist, videographer, student at the UCU School of Journalism. Searches for interesting stories in the least accessible parts of Ukraine. Has worked for the Romb.TV project and completed internships with the Belarusian and Polish mass media. Interested in art reportage, documentary cinema, new academic music and history of women.
Studies journalism at UCU. Her career began with student television, followed by working at a national TV channel in a role of a regional editor. Being a visual person, Viktoria views her characters through “images”. This way, she can not only convey people’s appearances but also their internal world. Love for visualisation does not mean she does not enjoy writing. Her debut in journalism was a report on a mining accident which was published by BBC. Viktoria is hoping to work in multimedia, where she can combine video, photo and script writing. She would also like to know more about documentary films.
About to finish his studies in media art at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar. As a media artist, he tests images for structure. By projecting them on different translucent surfaces, he de- or re-constructs the relation between image and object, surface and room, in 2D or 3D. As a filmmaker, Paul uses an amateur documentary style to seek the impersonal through personal confrontation. Recently, he has been working on a film about a trip to the United States with his mother, wherein generational differences become visible in various famous settings such as the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, the Redwoods or San Francisco.
Lives in Berlin and studies filmmaking at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Having worked in journalism, she now prefers filmmaking where one does not need to pretend to be objective. Anna speaks German, English and Hungarian. She thinks that everybody who believes that printed books will cease to exist is wrong.
A journalist, studying at the UCU School of Journalism. Earned her Bachelor degree from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Familiar with the work of Kirovograd regional TV and radio station, Kyiv office of Radio Liberty Europe and the English section of Radio Vatican. The focus of her work is always on whoever she writes or films about and for. Interested in social reporting and in-depth interviews. Olesya believes that the material can only be complete when one can hear, see and read about the character.

Director, media activist, producer of commercials, lecturer at the UCU School of Journalism. Co-founder of “Peredova” media studio specializing in video and audio recording. Freelance video clip maker. Practices poster art; among the most well-known poster series are “Our Manifesto”, “From Borshch Creators”, “Ukrainian Spring” and “Peace to the World”.
Loves life, which means history and stories to her. Therefore, she loves being where they are made, both big and small, and convey them through video. Began her studies at the Academy of Culture in Kharkiv. Together with the academics, created a team who filmed the war, sports events, historical and acute social projects, as well as stories of ordinary people who somehow influence the modern history. “But the more you film, the more you see what you do not yet know”, says Svitlana. She believes that the Video Academy will stimulate intensive development on the way to this dream.

TAiSiYA KUTUZOVA Producer, Simferopol Documentary filmmaker, freelancer at Radio Liberty. Born in Simferopol, she lives in Kyiv right now. Graduated from the UCU School of Journalism. Interested in documentaries and fiction films. Co-author of the short film «Alive and Undefeated». Has deep respect for Monty Python and John Cleese. Plays football and basketball but her hobbies are Sartre and existentialism.
