Make It Easy
Back-to-school shopping is in full swing. Whether your customers shop in-store or online, the key is to make it as easy as possible for them. According to The National Retail Federation (NRF), back-to-school spending is expected to total $36.9 billion this year, so it’s essential to be prepared and amp up your back-to-school marketing strategy.
Allyson Leak EDITOR
One way to get started is to ensure you have bright window displays that attract shoppers as they prepare for the school year. As you greet customers, you could also mention discounts and show them where back-to-school items are located. Creating a back-to-school area with school-themed merchandise arrangements labeled clearly, organized, and color coordinated, would also be a nice touch. In that area, you could offer a school beauty bundle. Bundled products make it easy for customers who may be in a rush or looking for a discount. Boost sales by ensuring your website is mobile-friendly. More people are shopping online because it’s convenient and time efficient. Enabling the abandoned shopping cart feature on your site, making sure your call-to-action buttons are compelling, and optimizing images to load quickly, can help your customers shop easily. I hope you enjoy our August issue.

Enhancing The Customer Experience
Imagine a busy mother who has four kids. She is preparing for back to school. When she comes into your store an hour before you close, she may have a full list of things to get. How easy is it for her to shop in your store? Are things marked clearly? Are the aisles marked with numbers and
labels so it’s easy to find things? When you make life easier for your customers, they will continue to come back time after time.
You’ve probably heard of role-playing when someone is practicing the art of acting or possibly even preparing and practicing for a job interview,
but what about customer roleplaying? It’s important to put yourself in the shoes of your customer so that you can gain some perspective about their shopping experience.
Step #1
Create a Customer Profile
This is who you are going to pretend to be for 20 minutes. Create a fake name, age, and add how many children this person has and write it on a small notecard.
Step #2
Create a Shopping List
Create a reason why this person would want to come in your store for back to school shopping. The more specific you are with this part the better. These will be the items you will search for.
Step #3
Inform Your Employees
Tell your employees that you are going to do a customer roleplaying activity for 20 minutes
after you close the store one day as a way to put yourself in the customers shoes to see what could be improved in the shopping experience.
Step #4
Show Time
The day of, get your little note card with your reminders and go outside of the store. Get into your acting role and enter your store as the pretend customer. Do your best to stay in character while you walk around collecting items and asking questions. Remember, it’s ok to laugh, too. This is meant for learning but it can also help lighten the energy at the end of a long day.
Step #5
Take Notes
Designate one person to take notes afterwards and document everyone’s thoughts about how the customer role playing went.
Hair Care
The focus for many shoppers these days is healthy hair and hair care. Making yourself and your employees knowledgable about products, accessories, and tools that prevent hair damage will make your store stand out in the mind of your customer.
Edge Gel
The ORS Olive Oil Girls Fly-Away Taming Edge Gel offers the perfect hold that controls those pesky flyaways around the hairline and nape with a soft hold. It also moisturizes the hair and protects the tresses from styling damage.
Relaxer
When permanent straight hair is the goal, the Smooth Care Olive Oil Kids No-Lye Relaxer is your best bet. Formulated with shea butter and coconut and olive oils, this relaxer will leave tresses silky, soft and healthy straight hair.
Kid’s Bonnet
Little girls need to protect their hair at night, just like their mothers. That’s why it’s great to have the Dreamworld Products Kid’s Wide Band Bonnet.
Hair accessories can be a form of creative expression for children. Colorful barrets, hair clips, headbands, and scrunchies are great options to have in a variety of colors for your back to school shoppers. When it comes to childrens hair accessories, color coordinating when merchandising may help make the shopping experience easier for your customers.
The right kind of hair brush is essential when doing a childs hair. You can show your customers you care by offering a variety of detangling brushes that will reduce hair breakage and make hair styling easier to do.
Detangler Comb
The Dream World Detangler Comb is perfect for combing hair with ease and flow because of its concave teeth.
Anti-Static Detangler Brush
If thick, juicy curls are the goal, shoppers will love the Curls B Enviable Creamy Curl Gel. Formulated with marshmallow root, this innovative gel can condition the tresses and provide medium hold without the unnecessary crunchiness.
The Dream World Flexible
Detangler Brush
Great whether your customer’s hair is short or long and can help remove tangles. It is great for various hair types and can be used on wet and dry hair. It also features an ergonomic design and a non-slip rubber grip.

BEST PRACTICES FOR A HYBRID MEETING
When the pandemic hit, the shift to virtual meetings was a blessing. Employees could still continue to work. Colleagues were able to collaborate. Conferences and training could still happen. And virtual connection was better than no connection at all.
How To Get The Best Of Both Worlds
But the surge of virtual meetings was not without issues. According to a recent survey, since the start of the pandemic 50 percent of employees have one to three hours of virtual meetings per week. And while complaints were frequent on the amount of time lost starting a meeting due to technical difficulties, still a little over half of employees prefer virtual meetings, while just under half prefer in person ones.
Perhaps due to the availability of online meetings, this survey also found that from 2020 to 2021, the number of meetings attended by workers has gone up nearly 13 percent.
With an even split between wanting in person and virtual meetings, and with workers spread further across the country (and world), creating
a hybrid meeting would seem like the perfect combination. The trick, however, is to plan on combining these two modes of engagement to have the best outcome rather than a happy (or not so happy) accident. Here are four tips to get the right combo from the start.
1. Incorporating Virtual Participants In Unique Ways
The idea of combining virtual and in person does dictate which meeting venue leads and which venue is folded into the mix. Simply putting up a large screen on the side of the conference or meeting would be akin to having people call in on a conference line. Instead, use a moderator both on the platform and at the in person location to keep virtual attendees engaged. Have several monitors located around the room as well as several

camera angles, so the virtual audience can be immersed in the physical environment.
Consider running polls with the virtual audience, sharing the poll results with everyone, and then asking in person participants their reactions to the outcomes for further discussion. This is one time you don’t want to put your ‘virtual baby’ in a corner.
2. Testing, Testing, 1 – 2 - 3
Going back to the recent survey, the biggest complaint for meeting attendees was the delay of the start due to technical issues that should have been resolved. This is where practice, practice, and practice comes in.
When going for a hybrid meeting model, the weakest link in the proverbial chain is the technology. Be sure to include AV and IT at the conference’s location and discuss those hybrid plans, so they can provide guidance on the technology equipment that is necessary to have things run smoothly. Asking for a “practice run” with the AV and IT teams at that location should be on the list of to dos. The onsite team can act as the in person attendees, and others can join via the virtual venue.
both virtual and in person audience discussions, a post production video can be developed that captures both engagement venues and combines them in a unique way.
Many conferences will capture in person testimonials. Since you have participants already on via a live streaming platform, this could also be a great time to ask a virtual participant to have a 30 second conversation about the conference or meeting during a break. These videos can be curated to make a virtual montage for those online participants and for social media engagement. On demand content can also highlight how this meeting was different and allowed full participation, regardless of location.
4. Using Data From Virtual To Drive Better In Person Engagement
The hardest part of conferences and meetings is the lack of data to make optimization decisions. By having virtual participants, the data capture can be leveraged. This does not just include how many attendees are online, how long they stay, and how engaged they are with polls and the like. This is a captive audience who can also quickly do a short survey after a session or midway through a conference, to gain immediate feedback on how things are running.
This testing ensures cameras are at the proper locations, lighting and microphones are placed properly, and the location’s bandwidth is able to handle the virtual surge in attendance. Understand and review the location’s back up plan if something fails as a final safety measure.
3. Grabbing On Demand Content For Later
Live streaming the in person meeting for the virtual audience provides a great post conference opportunity. By having several camera angles and

Because these audiences are viewing the meeting or conference from a different angle, they can also observe those in person, and see how they are faring during the conference. It may feel a little ‘big brother’, but conducting and recording observations can be a great way of seeing if the audience is engaged, tired, bored, etc.
Even as the population goes back to in person conferences and meetings, virtual meetings will be around for quite some time. By combining both in a calculated and strategic way, there is great opportunity to get the best of both worlds.

The Underdog Effect
5Ways to Overcome and Win
What’s your favorite underdog story? Why did you root for them? Whether it is a small company up against a big company or dynasty sports team against the Bad News Bears, you know the stories. You’ve probably seen countless times in every sports history, from the Pirates defeating the Yankees in 1960 to the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey team. Hollywood even makes movies about the loveable underdog. Legends are made because the odds are stacked against them. Have the odds ever been stacked against you? Perfect.
Here are five ways you can win as the Underdog:
1.
Tap Into the “Underdog Effect,” the Odds Against You Can Be an Asset. Ever wonder why people root for the underdog? More importantly, how can you get people to not only root for you, but come along side and actually help you?
When the odds are stacked against you, the crowd is rooting for you. It’s in your DNA. People are programmed to want to help, even people you may not know. People who have money, contacts and skills that could help you
beat Goliath. When they see your undogged persistence they are inspired and will use their assets to help you on this seemingly unachievable win. Get their attention, that’s an asset!
Get your story out there and tell it in a compelling way. The bigger your challenge, the more compelling your story. The more compelling your story, the more people will come along side you and help. Even unexpected people of influence or people you don’t know may pitch in and help. Make sure your story includes all the ways the odds are stacked against you. If your Goliath is known as a bully, even better. Get your story on the news, industry magazines, social media, and the papers any, way you can.
2.Decide to Be All-In. What is the Underdog Effect? Intelligence is something that people love, respect and want more of. You’ve probably heard of EQ, Emotional Intelligence. Now many people are talking about AI, Artificial Intelligence. Now you’re about to discover A.I.I. The Underdog Effect.
A.I.I. stands for All-In Intelligence. When you are all-in you think and

decide differently. It is because the odds are against you that people not only will people root for you, some will even come along side you and help.
To take advantage of the underdog effect, you must decide. But this isn’t just deciding you are going to win, this is getting every single person on your team to make an all-in decision. Once you “burn the boats” and you make an all-in decision, perspective changes dramatically. You think and act differently. You feel differently. Like a parent caring for the child, there is nothing they won’t do to protect them. What stops you from committing to a dream or challenge like that? Us. We do. Enough is enough.
If one team member is not all-in, it effects the whole team. If one team member is all-in, they can inspire others to follow their lead.
3.Stop Worrying About the “How,” Knowing Exactly How is Optional. The exciting part is that you may not know how and it’s OK! Embrace it. When we are kids, we dream like rivers flow. We never worry about the “how.” Why does this concern us so much as adults? Because if we can’t see the entire path, we don’t want to start the journey. That is not how successful underdogs win! They don’t worry about tomorrow, they focus on what they can do today, right here, with what they do have.
Underdogs win when they move with purpose even when they don’t know what tomorrow brings. Improvisation is an essential underdog skill. Having the ability to adapt and overcome each obstacle is part of their secret. They welcome mistakes because they are fully aware they can learn, adjust and re-engage. This becomes a huge advantage because the Goliath has a success strategy that they stick too. They are less likely to have to adapt because they usually win. So, their ‘adapting’ muscle is not as strong. If you are the underdog, build yours! It can be a huge advantage.
4.
Have an Unexpected Strategy. This can be a game changer. Here are a couple famous examples. In the movie Rocky II, Mickey, Rocky’s trainer, had him tie his left hand behind his back and trained him to box right-handed. Mickey did for Rocky to protect his blind spot. Also, Apollo Creed the Champion, trained expecting to box a south paw. Surprise. Midway through the fight, Rocky says, “no tricks” and reverted back to
boxing lefty again. Yeah, it’s just a movie, but what if you could use that idea?
In the story of David and Goliath, Goliath was a massive, unbeatable warrior. David was a young sheep herder. He was not a seasoned warrior, never mind an equal match for Goliath.
David did not try to flight Goliath sword for sword. Instead, he used a different weapon, a slingshot. Think about this though, it was his weapon. It was one he used for years protecting his herd. The one that came natural to him. The one that gave him confidence. Using a slingshot allowed him to attack without being in the range of being struck by Goliath’s sword. What ‘unexpected strategy’ can you implement.
5.Beat Them at Their Own Game. What if you meet your opponent where they live. What if you out-trained them? In the inspiring true-life story of the 1980s USA Hockey Team was portrayed in the movie Miracle. The coach, Herb Brooks, didn’t pick professional all-star hockey players from the NHL, nope. He didn’t even chose the most outstanding college hockey players, he chose the best ones that would work together as a team. He trained his team to play a different style of play based on flow. To play like style of the Russian Hockey team that were considered to be unbeatable. In the film Coach Brooks decided trained them on this new style, but harder than they had ever worked almost. He chose the players that would train that hard. What if you out trained your competition?
Make no mistake the mindset with any of these strategies is critical when you are the underdog. There was a line delivered by coach Brooks in the film that sums up the mindset. Just before the game where they faced the Russian hockey team, Goliath, Coach Brooks said, “One game. If we played them ten times, they might win nine, but not this game. Not tonight.”
Don’t be a hobbyist; be a lobbyist for your dream. Yeah, some people don’t like lobbyists, but when you are all-in you won’t care what other people think. You don’t have time. Focus. How about you and your team living your own underdog story? Which of the five ways will you use?

Why Non-Recruiters Are The Best Recruiters You Have
Not every recruiter can be an engineer, or hair stylist, or accountant. They know how to hire these roles, but not how to become them. On the flip side, it’s not as hard for every employee to act as a recruiter. In fact, recruiting power in each employee is often unrealized because we’re so busy relying on recruiters to be the only one recruiting.
What they learned was just giving out the cards wasn’t enough –managers needed training to know what to look for! They needed a little of that magical recruiter eye. If a 20% success rate using resources you already have isn’t convincing enough, here are six more reasons why non-recruiters are the best recruiters you have:
There was an incredible program once developed for a service industry. Every manager in this company went through training to both spot and learn how to engage with potential candidates. A calling card was available to hand out to potential superstars and managers could facilitate an introduction to a recruiter. The candidate would always get a call and the managers received a referral bonus if there was a connection with the candidate – even if they were not hired. The company paid managers for this time, and with a 20% success rate, a fruitful pipeline of high-quality candidates emerged.
They far surpass your post and pray method. We know a lot of recruiters do this – get the generic job ad posted everywhere, then wait. You may get hundreds of applications, but most of them are not the right fit or don’t have the right experience. You end up spending heaps of time reading resumes that are not the right fit. This is not a strategic approach (or an effective one!). You need to do more than passively wait for people to come to you and investing in your untapped recruiting potential is a fantastic way to build your pipeline of better candidates.
Your employees, hiring managers, and top performers have a very clear idea of who they want to work beside and what it takes to be successful at your company. Once they know what roles you’re hiring for, give them tools to help you - train them on how to be a recruiter so everyone is looking for talent that makes the workday, the product, and the customer experience better. Everyone wins when you do this and you become less fixated on referral rewards, and more excited about the benefit of the team. Don’t lose sight of that recognition for their efforts to help with recruiting – it is important too. It may not be as motivating to get the right talent if you’re offering a bonus for the volume of resumes over spotted potential talent.
recruiters means paid time, or extra time paid to do this work that is so valuable. Asking people to do work that is not in scope is a terrible experience and does not entice them to say nice things about your brand or the culture. It suggests you don’t value their time! Think about a few hours per week that they can be compensated to call people, go on LinkedIn to ask people if they are interested, or follow up with their professional associations. It will go a long way and help them feel good about helping in this effort.
You can motivate and inspire your own team by helping find key talent in personal and visible ways. Who wouldn’t want to be celebrated for their part in building a great workplace for themselves and their peers?
One way to do this is to share broadly the talent each employee has brought into the team and thank them for it. Thank them in front of the company and through gestures that don’t come with strings – this means you shouldn’t hold referral bonuses for months on end to see if the new person works out. Their job was to bring someone amazing into the organization and they did that!
They don’t need a lot to feel appreciated. Make sure you have a planned approach to show them that you value their effort, and that you are happy to have them helping bring the best people to join you. Beyond the splashy recognition that you can get into, take notice of the simple things in being thankful for their effort. They are giving their time and expertise to the process and learning how to be a non-recruiter does take a little bit of investment. Spend your money on a solid program that is easy to work with, giving time and resources to the training, and help you employees develop the skills to look for what you need – it’s an easy way to show appreciation for the huge scale you can get in your recruiting efforts.
If you can work fast to meet these candidates the non-recruiters bring you, they will want to do it more and feel more credible wearing their recruiting hat. You may need to update your processes to be able to move faster to connect with this spotted talent. Don’t make them go through a long process or wonder if you’re going to get back to someone. This will not encourage them to bring you more superstars. Be ready to follow up with every single person the non-recruiters spot and refer.
If they have the time, they can be very effective. Think about the value of giving them one hour away from their day job to find you two more top performers like them. Giving the non-recruiters time to act as
Meet Jeremy
As with all programs, you need every stakeholder to be on board for it to be successful. While you’re investing in great programs and recognition for this stretch role outside of the recruiting team, make sure your recruiters are on board with the plans. They are the best teachers and advocates to help make this a success, but they can also derail your efforts mightily. Don’t let your recruiters get territorial with their efforts. It’s critical that they understand the goal is not to replace them, or that their work is not valued. This is a way to scale the recruiting function and have the best people possible helping fill each open role on your team. If everyone can come to work with the mindset that it is part of everyone’s job to attract the best talent –especially in mid and large companies – everyone wins!

Carol Moseley Braun
Former U.S. Senator & U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa
Carol Moseley Braun was born Carol Elizabeth Moseley on August 16, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. A leading AfricanAmerican politician, Moseley Braun’s career has been marked by both great successes and missteps.
After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1969 with a degree in political science, Moseley Braun attended the university’s law school. She earned her law degree in 1972, and began working as an assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago the following year.
Moseley Braun held her first political post as a Democratic representative to Illinois House of Representatives, beginning in 1978. As a representative, she was known as an advocate for social change, working for reforms in education, government, and healthcare. In 1988, she took another challenge. She was elected recorder of deeds for Cook County, Illinois, overseeing
hundreds of employees as well as the public agency’s multimillion-dollar budget.
First Black Woman Elected to the Senate
In 1992, Moseley Braun made the leap to the national political arena: She ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate, looking to unseat incumbent Democratic Senator Alan Dixon in the Democratic primary. Up against a seasoned politician who had spent decades in office, Moseley Braun appeared to be the underdog. But many responded to Moseley Braun as a chance for political change. She won the primary, but faced another tough opponent in Republican Richard Williamson. Williamson tried to capitalize on Moseley Braun’s mishandling of a tax situation. Although the scandal marred her campaign, she won the election, becoming the first African-American woman to win election to the U.S. Senate.
Chicago based minority-owned beauty care industry icons: John H. & Eunice Johnson, Founders Johnson Publishing & Fashion Fair Cosmetics; George & Joan Johnson, Founders Johnson Products; Fred and Blondell Luster, Founders Luster Products; Edward & Bettyanne Gardener, Founders Soft Sheen Products were significant campaign supporters.
As a senator, Moseley Braun tackled many issues, including women’s rights and civil rights. She served on several committees, including the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Moseley Braun continued to support educational reforms and called for more restrictive gun control laws. Her time in office, however, was affected by claims that she misused funds from her 1992 campaign, spending the money on personal expenses. While no charges were ever filed, this allegation clung to Moseley Braun as she sought re-election in 1998.
Post-Senate Work
Moseley Braun’s re-election campaign was also hindered by her Republican opponent Peter Fitzgerald. A self-financed candidate, Fitzgerald didn’t have restrictions on how much he could spend during his campaign. He won the election by a close margin. After leaving office, Moseley Braun was appointed U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa by President Bill Clinton in 1999. She left the post at the end of the Clinton Administration. A career-long advocate for education, Moseley Braun then taught at Morris Brown College.
In 2003, she campaigned for the Democratic presidential nomination. Moseley Braun opposed the war in Iraq and spoke out about the country’s economic situation, but she dropped out of the race in early 2004 after failing to garner enough support. She asked her supporters to vote for Howard Dean.
Since then, Moseley Braun has been working as a business consultant, started an organic foods company called Good Foods Organics and serves
on the board of North Carolina Mutual life Insurance company. She has one child: a son named Michael from her previous marriage to Michael Braun.
Michelle Davis
Trichologist, Hair & Makeup Artist
Purpose driven and advocacy have shaped Michelle Davis’ path. She’s mentored and prepped students for state boards, trained salon professionals, travelled abroad for business growth and fashioned the tresses of many, from the homeless to Hollywood stars.
The Leon’s Beauty School and Winston Salem State University (WSSU) graduate firmly stands on Jeremiah 29:11. While full time student at WSSU and a stylist at Pat’s Barber Shop, Davis auditioned to model for Canadian Mist and was rejected. Refusing to accept defeat, she offered her talents to the Canadian Mist team and served as lead hairstylist, makeup artist and hairdresser on the program production. Driven by a desire to cultivate her craft, she enrolled in Dudley Cosmetology University, later launching her career as a platform artist and educator. In 1994, she took her talents to Speed’s Hair Gallery in Charlotte, NC serving as a shampoo assistant. While in this role, she followed the system, mastering her skills, and as a result built a solid beauty career. In 2002, her salon Sketches Salon & Spa, Inc was established, earning recognition by Hollywood Hair as one of the “Hottest Salons” in the Carolinas.
After visiting LaCosta Resort in southern California, she realized the need for multicultural hair providers. In 2006, headed west to work for Yamaguchi Spa & Salon in Carlsbad California, serving guests from across the globe. She secured freelance hair and make-up opportunities for film
and TV productions in Carlsbad, Laguna Beach, Palm Springs and Los Angeles.
Before returning to the Carolinas, Davis acquired a certification in Trichology - the scientific study of scalp and hair disorders. As a Trichologist, she has helped many clients regain healthy hair and follicle rejuvenation using electro, scalp and nutritional therapies. Currently, she educates licensed stylists and consumers on hair loss prevention using the Decca Plus System. Along with industry affiliations, she prides herself in community activism and mental Health advocacy. She volunteers her time at the Greentree, CURE and Look Good Feel Better organizations. In her free time, Davis enjoys jazz concerts, international travels and is a pickleball enthusiast.

UNITE HAIR HELPS DEFINE TEXTURED WAVES
Ciara’s fluffy, textured waves prove that humidity isn’t always a bad thing when it comes to summer hair styling.
During the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Italy, the “Level Up” singer stepped out looking like absolute royalty, despite the hot temperatures and high humidity. Instead of fighting the summer elements, celebrity hairstylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez embraced the au naturale texture in Ciara’s hair to create her show-stopping look, exclusively using UNITE Hair (@unite_hair).
“I wanted the hair to have an airy, naturally fuzzy texture, like something out of an Italian Vogue editorial. So my goal was to utilize the natural texture in the hair. I was inspired by my surroundings in the beautiful small town of Syracuse, Sicily, with all its history and legends and the images of the local Santa Lucia. I wanted this look to feel as if Ciara was a renaissance queen in the Royal Family,” says Cesar.
Check out Cesar’s step-by-step breakdown on how to achieve the look at home and how to take humidity into your own hands this summer.
THE BREAKDOWN:
“On damp, towel-dried hair, begin by making a center part, and apply BOING Moisture Curl Cream from roots to ends. Diffuse until completely dry and curly.
Next, take a boar bristle brush and brush through section by section starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots. Brush until the curl is completely brushed out and all you have are nice uniformed fuzzy waves.
Then, take three diagonal sections off the part and use a small-barrel curling wand to wrap and twist-curl each section towards the face on each side.
Spray a light mist of LIQUID Volume from mid-shaft to ends to add even more texture and volume.
Brush each curled section into the rest of the textured hair on each side while spraying GO365 Hairspray. Pro Tip: keep the roots flat with GO365 Hairspray and sectioning clips, while brushing through the ends. It should look like a clean smooth wave at the root and fade to a fuzzy, fluffy texture.
Optional: add a jeweled headband or hair accessories from ear to ear for a crown like vibe.”
All products mentioned above are available on UniteHair.com.
TRANSFORM AND CARE FOR SEVERLY DAMAGED HAIR WITH APHOGEE’S LEGENDARY HAIR STRENGTHENING KIT!
Summer is a time for pool parties, beach trips, and highlights, babylights or fun hair colors. As much as we all love this season, it can take a significant toll on your hair. Chlorine, saltwater, hair color, exposure to heat tools like blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons, and even over washing, can all affect the level of hair damage. Severly dry and damaged hair can appear frizzy, lifeless, dull and brittle, even after conditioning. Let’s not forget to mention that addition of visible split ends. If left untreated, your hair will only get worse over time.
ApHgee hair care has the solution – a specific regimen for repairing damaged hair and restoring strength, elasticity, shine and condition to any hair type.
Fact: To help strengthen severly damaged hair, you need to start with a protein treatment. Your hair strands are made up of about 90% of protein, which helps give your hair shape and structure. When damaged, you may find your hair looking and feeling weaker, dry and lifeless.
The first step is the ApHogee Strengthening Treatment, designed to influse needed proteins and amino acids to hair to repair and strengthen compromised strands. The second step is the ApHogee Protective Moisturizer that softens and conditions your hair, while restoring shine and elasticity.
Beautiful hair doesn’t have to come with a sacrifice this summer. You can still enjoy the sun, pool and outdoor activities, and wear your favorite hair styles and hair color all while maintaining a healthy, reflective, beautiful head of hair. Say goodbye to damages hair with ApHogee’s Hair Strengthening Kit and feel confident again.
ApHogee Hair Strengthening Kit (3 oz / 3oz / $17.99 MSRP) is an easy-touse, two-part system that is incredibly effective on all hair types and textures, even the most damaged hair.
The wonderful news is that the ApHogee Hair Strengthening Kit works in minutes and lasts through multiple washes. Each kit contains about three applications. With the ApHogee Hair Strengthening Kit you can not only restore your hair but help stop future hair breakage for weeks, so you can get back in the salon for your favorite chemical service!
ApHogee is available at Sally Beauty Supply stores nationwide, Walmart.com, and other beauty supply stores and salons nationwide. For more information, visit us online at www.Aphogee.com.

BY ALLYSON LEAK
THE POWER OF PEACE
It’s no secret that stress is becoming a major health problem in today’s society. Stress can have negative effects on the mind, body, and spirit. It has been proven that chronic stress can impact both our physical and psychological well-being, which can lead to an increase in anxiety, insomnia, and even high blood pressure.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of maintaining awareness of your feelings and thoughts in a non-judgmental way. It can help you stay in tune with your mind, body, and spirit so that you know what you need for mental peace and when you need to prioritize self-care.
What role does inner peace play at work?
When you are less stressed and anxious, it allows you to have more clarity and flourish creatively at work. Practicing mindfulness can also increase your emotional quotient. Having a high EQ can make it easier to see solutions to problems and handle situations with coworkers in a harmonious way.
Here are a few mindfulness activities that you can start incorporating into your daily or weekly schedule to help you unwind a bit.
#1
Practice Meditation
Regular meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety by increasing self-awareness and reducing negative emotions.
If you are just getting started with meditation, start simple. Try ten minutes a week, then after a month, try ten minutes a day of relaxation time.”
#2
Try Journaling
Expressing your emotions is an essential part of de-stressing. You can write how you feel about life on notes on your phone, in a notebook, or on your computer. The journal entries do not have to be long and there is no wrong or right way to do it. The point is to start practicing how to release so that your life is more in a state of ease and flow.
#3
Set Healthy Boundaries
The only way to create healthy boundaries is to first know what you stand for. Create a personal purpose statement for the year. It can include how you want to feel each day, how you want to be treated, and your goals. This statement will help you measure the decisions you have to make and the people you spend a lot of time around.
#4
Prioritize Your Sleep Routine
Not getting enough rest can contribute to stress. It’s not only about getting in bed earlier, your sleep routine is important, too. Set a timer and allow at least 20 minutes of unwinding time before you decide to go to bed. You can put on an essential oil diffuser, listen to a sleep meditation, or read a book (about a soothing topic).
