Drei Emika
Three months ago I reviewed Emika’s beautiful solo piano album Klavirni and despite finding it to be an enthralling listen I wasn’t that excited for her next release – her third LP proper and the first on her own label. DVA, despite some considerable highlights, never grabbed me in the way her eponymous début did and the tracks teased from Drei sounded like a further simplification of her characteristic sound. Klavirni was an early highlight of the year but its almost complete removal from Emika’s usual style meant her third LP almost passed me by. Though my first listen seemed to confirm my fears I’m glad I stuck with Emika’s third LP as it may just be her best yet.
