October 2020 NEWS & VIEWS FROM THE C&I TRUST DIGITAL TEAM
Last month, the Trust was pleased to confirm that Jeff Boateng was appointed as substantive Executive Director of Digital Services and Informatics. In this latest issue of our digital newsletter, we catch up with Jeff, in his new permanent role, to see how he plans to shape and develop the team in the coming months.
How do you feel about your new role? I’m incredibly excited to have taken up the permanent role of Executive Director of Digital Services & Informatics. I’ve enjoyed my work here to date and believe there is a lot that we can do within the IT team to make a real impact across the Trust. There’s an opportunity to deliver some significant digital benefits for everyone that works here. I’m delighted to be taking on the challenge!
Can you tell us more about the new branding that we can see on this newsletter? I’m so pleased to showcase our new branding. I felt it was time that we showed an updated and refreshed look for a team that comprises several departments, including Information Governance, Informatics, Service Desk and Service Delivery. It’s designed to be bright, colourful and impactful! Read the rest of Jeff’s interview here
Our new induction booklet for new recruits We’ve created a new booklet for new members of staff joining the Trust. Spotlight on Microsoft Teams – Teams Sites A Teams Site provides you and your colleagues a space to store, chat, and collaborate on documents together. It can be accessed either via web browser or from MS Teams itself. You could create a Teams Site for a piece of work, a project or a group. Teams Sites are there as a way for staff to work together in a more efficient and collaborative manner such as co-authoring documents or using a planner to manage and report on outstanding tasks. On a Teams Site, all members are content authors where you can jointly create and edit content. Think of Teams Sites as a place where work gets done.
Meet our CCIO Laurine Hanna is the Trust’s Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO); a position that exists within the healthcare industry, that combines the expertise of a medical clinician with the IT knowledge of a Chief Information Officer (CIO). How do I set up a Teams Site? If you wish to request a Teams Site, we can help set that up for you. Please email the Service Desk at: ICT.ServiceDesk@candi.nhs.uk
Has anyone in the Trust set one up so far? Yes, we have approximately 10 Teams Sites set up to date. Speaking about their Teams Site, Fredrik Johansson, Consultant Psychiatrist said, ‘We are using a Teams Site for the “Patient Flow and Experience” work, a central part of the clinical strategy to improve quality of care and flow through our services. There are 8 members so far with many more set to join. We currently have 4 “channels” for different workstreams, such as improving flow in our psychiatric intensive care unit and one on a skills teaching programme for staff. As the number of projects increase, we will be able to add new channels to the networks involved. We’re able to share information, communicate in groups, and plan our work very easily and keep track of what’s happening using the system. I am constantly learning more about how to use it and find it a real step-up from relying on shared folders and normal email’.
Improved WiFi We know many of you have experienced issues with Trust WiFi. The good news is that our WiFi Modernisation Programme is now underway and goes through to Spring 2021. The scope of this project will cover: • new WiFi installations on sites with no WiFi availability • improvements on sites currently experiencing WiFi related technical issues • an upgrade on our core WiFi hardware If you have a request for a new WiFi installation or experiencing WiFi issues on your existing network, please contact Ed Fernandez – ICT Programme Manager, email: Eduardo.fernandez@candi.nhs.uk. Please note that WiFi can only be considered for on-site areas where there is clinical / operational activity taking place.

GREETINGS FROM THE USA We know many live a significant distance from C&I, with often a hefty commute to one of the Trust sites in London. Hats off then to Rayahd Khan, Learning and Organisational Development Administrator and Equality & Diversity Inclusion Support Officer. Rayahd is currently working remotely for the Trust – from New York, USA. Picking up the story, Rayahd explains; ‘Due to the pandemic I’ve been unable to travel back to the UK but have been fortunate enough to work from New York since March. This has been made possible with the help & support from my manager, Ian Fishwick, who has been in contact with me on a weekly basis by keeping me up to date and forwarding work to my personal email address. Recently, remote access was set up by the Trust IT team for me to work from the US. It took some time for me to receive a personal iPad I’d ordered, due to the postal system here in New York, which is suffering due to the pandemic”.
Now I have remote access, I have access to my work emails etc. I can fulfil my work duties and responsibilities, keep in contact with my colleagues and attend department / team meetings without having to physically be present, all through video conferences. This is great as it allows me to still feel part of the team despite being abroad. On a personal level this has been of enormous benefit, as I have some underlining health issues which put me at great risk with Covid-19. If I hadn’t been provided with the flexibility of working from home/ abroad it could have seriously impacted my health. Many thanks to those in the IT team who helped me with remote working’.
