Small Steps Can Lead to Giant Leaps By Tim Wiles, Library Director As I write this, “A Universe of Stories” is blasting off into the summer reading program stratosphere with a galaxy of educational and engaging activities for kids, teens and adults. We’ve got almost 1,000 ice cream cups ready to hand out, and a calendar chock full of fun space-themed events to keep everyone occupied and intellectually stimulated throughout August. Summer reading programs have been shown to help kids and teens retain curriculum learned during the previous school year, while strengthening academic performance in the year ahead. This is one of the many ways we partner with schools to augment the positive strides made in the classroom. As you read this, we sincerely hope you take full advantage of all we have to offer, throughout the summer and beyond. Check our website for the full slate of programs! Did you know that we also have an Adult Summer Reading Club? You’re probably already reading by the pool, at the beach or in a hammock -- why not enter to win a prize as well! Cardholders age 18+ are invited to create an account on guilderlandlibrary.beanstack.org to log your reading through August 30; we can also log your progress for you. Read a book, enter the author/title on Beanstack, and earn extra points for composing a short review. Books, eBooks, audio books – everything counts! Log three books and win a FREE book, plus an entry into our Grand Prize Drawing to win a specialty gift basket on Fri. Aug. 30. Our thanks to the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza for their continued support of this program. The 2019 summer reading program theme coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moonwalk, a momentous achievement for humanity that demonstrated what was possible at a time when our nation was in turmoil and in need of healing. Stark images of Vietnam on our TVs were temporarily interrupted by the riveting sight of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin setting foot on the moon – a lofty goal set by President John F. Kennedy for completion for the end of the decade, which seemed almost insurmountable at the time. Though he did not live to see this goal realized, it was a poignant reminder for our fractured country of our collective potential, and it brought us together.
Legislative / Building Update Come to think of it, that’s the mission of the library in a nutshell: to envision what’s possible, foster lifelong learning, and bring people together. When legislation supports this mission, it is all the more gratifying. In June, our state legislature restored $20 million to the library construction fund under the capital projects budget. This funding was not included in the state’s 2019-2020 budget passed on April 1 and therefore was at risk of being eliminated. Restoration of these funds reaffirms New York’s commitment to a high-quality, robust network of public libraries as a key educational and community resource available to all. We are fortunate to have Assemblywoman Pat Fahy and Senator George Amedore as effective champions recognizing the value of libraries. While this is a statewide initiative encompassing a network of libraries, the library renewal referendum passed by Guilderland voters in May is specific to us. Last month, I outlined a proposed timeline of our construction plans. Though we’re anxious to get started, we are also subject to the State Education Department for plan approval. We’ll do all we can on our end to keep the process moving forward, and keep you updated throughout the various phases.
5th Annual Gala - Sept. 28 We are excited to announce our fifth annual Library Gala, sponsored by the Guilderland Library Foundation, a group of volunteers who do fundraising to support programming, collections, and other improvements to the library. This year’s gala theme is “Feelin’ Groovy,” and supporters may wish to don costumes with a 1960s or 1970s “vibe” to get into the spirit. Reserve Saturday September 28th on your calendar for night of far-out fun at the Albany Country Club. The evening promises to be a festive event with lots of great tunes from of the era spun by a local DJ. Put on those dancin’ shoes and join us! Speaking of the Gala, we could use some help. We’re seeking business and individual sponsorships, at levels ranging from $250 to $2,000. We are grateful to following sponsors as of June 28: • • • • • • •
Troy Miller Construction/CM Fox Realty - $2,000 Masterpiece Level Jaeger & Flynn - $1,000 Classic Level The Rosenblum Companies - $1,000 Classic Level Crossgates Mall - $500 Bestseller Level Girvin & Ferlazzo - $500 Bestseller Level The Ten Eyck Group - $500 Bestseller Level Carter Conboy Law Firm - $250 Novella Level
To add your name to this fabulous list of supporters, contact Guilderland Library Foundation President Steve Wacksman at Wacksman20@gmail.com, or contact me at the library. We greatly value these vital community partnerships and thank you for your support! We’re also looking for couples and individuals to “supersize” their support of the library by serving on the Honorary Committee, at a cost of $100 per ticket, which includes your meal. Honorary Committee tickets are being sold now, and can be purchased by mailing a check payable to the Guilderland Library Foundation to their mailbox here at the library: 2228 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY 12084. Lastly, we’re seeking awesome items and experiences to be showcased in our live auction. Examples from past galas include weekends or weeks at summer homes or Manhattan apartments, tickets to Broadway Shows, concerts, sporting events, and the like. All donations are sincerely appreciated! Regular tickets to the Gala, priced at $75 each, will go on sale soon, and sell out very quickly. Please plan to join us at the Library Foundation’s biggest fundraising event of the year! The most recent example of Foundation support for the library is that they’ve purchased two telescopes, which can be checked out by the public anytime as part of our “Library of Things.” Our new telescopes are a particularly nice tie-in to the aforementioned “A Universe of Stories” theme – which brings us back to where we started. Neil Armstrong’s famous quote as he became the first person to traverse the moon’s surface – “One small step for a man…one giant leap for mankind” – relates to what we do each day. Exposure to one book, program, publication, movie or person here can launch you on an unexpected and serendipitous journey to places, positions and experiences you never imagined in your grand plan. All it takes is a single step, and a willingness to explore. We’re here to support that journey of a thousand miles that begins with a single step, as described by Lao Tzu.

with goal of putting an accessible version online on or before July 10th. Before the roll was finalized, two Boards of Assessment Review
adjudicated more than 900 grievances over three weeks. The final
roll states that the total assessed value of all property in the Town is $4,833,493,718. As a result of this revaluation effort, the NYS Tax
Department has confirmed that the Town’s 2019 equalization rate will be 100% which helps with restoring fair and equitable tax burdens.
I greatly appreciate the hard work and long hours devoted by the Assessor’s Office and the Town’s consultant in conducting a fair and transparent revaluation process.
The new equalization rate remedies inequities that unfairly shifted tax
burdens from commercial to residential properties, and lessens burdens on Town residents for taxes imposed by taxing jurisdictions that extend beyond the Town, like the County and some school districts. The first
tax to apply the new property assessments will be 2019-2020 school bills.

WE FIX CHEAP LAWN CUTS
COLD HARD FACTS OF BIG RIDING MOWERS:
• They cut at up to 13 mph. A fast cut results in a low quality cut. • They are very heavy which leads to soil compaction. Compacted soil starves your grass of vital nutrients. • They turn on a zero degree radius. A zero degree turn can leave bald spots and take out chunks of your grass. • Many of the big companies use these big riding mowers to save time so they can offer you a “Discount” price at the expense of quality.
WE DON’T USE BIG RIDING MOWERS ON YOUR LAWN Lawn getting torn up? Your Guy Terrible at Communicating? Make a change for the better!

FOCUS
with Nancy Jones - Organic Bliss Skin Studio
Q. Where are you located? A. I am located at 2563 Western Avenue Guilderland, NY 12009, at the Coloroom New York. Q. What is your phone number and website address? A. (518) 330-3149 OrganicBlissSkinStudio@gmail.com visit us on social media! @OrganicBlissSkinStudio or on the web at www.OrganicBlissSkinStudio.com. Q. What hours are you open? A. Monday - Saturday (by Appointment only) Q. How and why did you get into the business? A From a young age I have had an interest in skin care. Once I finished my training and licensing from The Aesthetic Science Institute in 2009, I was fortunate to work providing Aesthetics for the past 7 years with a business that specialized in Natural and Organic products. As I learned the health benefits of using natural and organic products not only for the skin but the positive impact they had on the body as a whole, I knew I had found something that I wanted to continually provide to my clients and decided to open my own skin care business.
Q. What do you love most about the business? A. I am passionate about helping people achieve beautiful and healthy skin. I love meeting new people and seeing them feel good about themselves and watching the transformation in their skin when we work together to achieve their skin care goals. Getting professional skin care treatments along with a good home care routine have proven and long lasting results. Passing on my knowledge of the benefits of using products free from harmful toxins, chemicals, parabens, and synthetic fragrances, not only enhances the skins appearance but benefits overall health. Q. What do you want the community to know about you? A. In addition to Facials, Advanced Skin Care Treatments, and Waxing, I also offer Organic Spray Tanning. I truly care about your health and wellbeing! My promise is to treat your skin with healthy anti-inflammatory , plant based products, that also utilize pure natural essential oils that are not only highly effective on the skin, but improve your overall sense of relaxation, and stress reduction. I am continually educating myself on the link between hidden toxins and chemicals in skin and personal care products and disease and aging of the skin and body. I always give free skin consultations, and would love to meet with you just to talk about your skin care concerns and ways we can work together to help you attain your goals. To celebrate the opening of my business, I am offering a Grand Opening Special of $15. OFF any 1 hour Facial valid until 8/31/19.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR FAMILY’S TEETH HEALTHY THIS SUMMER Summer sun brings summer fun! While warm months are perfect for spending time together and relaxing with friends and family, it is not the time to take a break from good oral health habits. You can still indulge in summertime treats, but there are still ways to maintain your oral dental health. For instance: •
Pack healthy snacks for those vacation days. Choose tooth friendly foods, such as apples slices and carrots to bring with you to snack on.
•
Create a summer routine for your teeth. Brush twice a day, morning and night, and be sure to floss daily.
•
Rinse with water. Even when you are on the go this summer, it may be tough to stay on top of your daily dental routine. It also may be difficult to brush and floss after each meal and snack, so be sure to have some water handy to drink after you eat. Water is not as beneficial as brushing, but it can help rinse away harmful sugars when brushing is not possible.
•
Limit sweet drinks. Icy cold lemonade, sweetened iced tea, soda and sports drinks may be tempting to drink on hot summer days and can still be consumed in moderation. However, be sure you limit yourself since these drinks are sugary and tend to be acidic, which can lead to the erosion of your tooth enamel and ultimately lead to tooth decay. Water is always the best option.
•
Look for low-sugar and sugar-free options. A lot of summer snacks and treats are loaded with sugar. Ice cream cones, popsicles, and even ketchup and barbeque sauce are sugary and can contribute to cavities.

FOR ADOPTION Hank
Hank is a handsome easy-going five-year old neutered male cat looking for his forever home. He was found struggling to survive outside with no food or shelter. Although abandoned by his owner for several winters and in survival mode Hank’s disposition is very upbeat. His favorite things are playing, watching the birds outside, napping, snuggling with a human and purring. Hank will start out shy at first and he will need a patient owner to show him the world is a loving place. But then watch out! Once he knows he is safe and loved he will relax and become chill and steal your heart. He loves to purr and knead.
We are the locally owned and operated car service whose purpose is to provide Guilderland and the surrounding community a clean, safe, affordable, reliable, and professional car service.

Meet Bain! I am 3 years old and in need of a forever home. I have only been with one family and am being re-homed due to changing living situations. I currently live with children and three cats. I do get along with other dogs. I am very energetic and need someone who will dedicate their time to me. I would benefit from training and patience when transitioning to a new home. It will be a big change for me. Please share and if you are interested please contact Samantha at 518-698-1016

Once comfortable Hank will meet you at the door when you come home. He likes to hang out where the family is and check in throughout the day. He loves to play with the other kitties in his foster home and by himself. When it’s bedtime he will be waiting for you. Hank likes to sleep snuggled up touching you. Hank is neutered, tested negative for FIV/Felv and current on his vaccines. Because of the harsh winters he had to endure his breathing can be louder at times along with a gentle snore. Hank would do great with another cat in his forever home.

WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS OR HOW TO PARENT APART by Margaret C. Tabak
Guilderland, NY - When we reach TV or movies, custody seems to always be determined by who is “unfit”. In real life, custody is not so black and white. In New York, the standard to determine custody is what is in the “best interests” of the child. "In conducting a best interests analysis, courts must consider a variety of factors, including the quality of the parents' respective home environments, the need for stability in the child's life, each parent's willingness to promote a positive relationship between the child and the other parent and each parent's past performance, relative fitness and ability to provide for the child's intellectual and emotional development and overall well-being"1. The Court went on to say: Further, in "determining the child's best interests, Family Court 'must . . . consider the effect of domestic violence . . . when the allegations of domestic violence are proven by a preponderance of the evidence'". In the Aimee case, the parents had joint legal and physical custody of their [now] 12 year old daughter . Both parents sought to modify custody, and after a trial, the Father was awarded sole legal and primary physical custody. What happened? The court needed to find that there was a “change in circumstances” so that the best interest of the child would be served by a change in the custodial arrangement. While it was found that the Father had acted in an “inappropriate and menacing manner toward the mother and others” and described himself as a “hothead”, it was found that the mother had instigated many of the parties’ arguments and that she could be aggressive and assaultive. Concerns were raised regarding the mother’s substance abuse and mental health. She left the child without proper supervision, was unemployed for a significant length of time, and did not have stable housing or a working vehicle.
While the Father was found to be “overbearing, controlling and disrespectful”, he provided appropriate care for the child, was sober, had a steady job and suitable housing. Courts must look at many factors when deciding custody and while a parent may be “fit”, she may not be the best choice. While this may seem obvious, factors such as employment, housing, sobriety, and anger management cannot be overstated as to their importance. Another significant factor is the ability of the parents to communicate effectively with each other Even in the happiest of homes, parents will differ as to parenting styles, including discipline, schooling, medical treatment, and religious upbringing. While an intact family is “forced” to reach a consensus with each other, when parents live apart it is often difficult to reach a middle ground. If you and your co-parent cannot do this, seeking professional help such as a counselor or social worker can be invaluable. Not only will it save you a lot of time and expense in court, it will actually do your children good.

Hike Guilderland! The Town of Guilderland offers a new interactive mapping of hiking trails located within the Town. In addition to the Town’s hiking trails at Tawasentha Park and Vosburgh open space, there also hiking trails managed by the Albany Pine Bush Commission, DEC and Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. Using the interactive map, you can zoom to a specific trail for detailed information including a trail description, length, and trailhead locations and general information useful for hikers, runners, cyclists and winter sports enthusiasts. Below are summaries of these hiking options:
Tawasentha Park (Town of Guilderland) Tawasentha Park BridgeTawasentha Park, a 192.5 acre park, is located at 188 Route 146. Tawasentha Park is the jewel among the Town’s eight parks and has roughly 5 miles of easy to moderate trails which traverse woods and along stream banks in the Park with the option of continuing via a pedestrian bridge to grasslands and sloped woodlands in the Winter Recreation Area. The trails are also popular for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. You can access the trails at marked locations in the Park, the Winter Recreation Area and the Community Gardens. More information, including a copy of the hiking trails map, is downloadable at: www.townofguilderland.org/sites/guilderlandny/files/uploads/trailsbrochure_8.5x11.pdf
Vosburgh Trails (Town of Guilderland) Vosburgh Trails is the new hiking system that traverses 124 acres of Town-owned open space. The trails provide an easy loop (2.1 miles) through grasslands with a shortcut to a vista view. The loop trail also connects to a spur which continues along a wooded crest to the Watervliet Reservoir and popular pedestrian bridge over the Normanskill Creek. A roundtrip from Vosburgh Road trailhead to the Reservoir is about 3 miles. Trailheads are located on Vosburgh Drive, at the end of the sidewalk on Millingstone Way, and at French's Mill Road.
Albany Pine Bush Preserve (Albany Pine Bush Commission) The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission (APBPC) is a public benefit corporation which manages the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, a nationally recognized rare inland pitch pine scrub oak barrens. The Preserve has 18 miles of ten marked multiple use trails. The trails are considered easy to moderate, usually flat with gentle slopes, over sandy trails and woodland passages. These trails are open to snowshoeing with crampons recommended for icy conditions. The Great Dune Trail consists of the Red Trail (1.8 miles), Blue Trail (1.4 miles), and Yellow Trail (1.3 miles) with diverse forests, rolling sand dunes, including the one mile long and 75 foot tall Great Dune, wild lupine wildflowers and Karner Blue Butterfly in May and June, and other natural resources. The Great Dune Trail is accessible at a trailhead at the end of Willow Street at Tera Court. The Hunger Kill Barrens Trail consists of the Purple Trail (2.9 miles), a “through” trail, with trailheads in the Town’s DiCaprio Park and at the Madison Avenue Pinelands trailhead. The Blue Trail (0.6 miles), a loop trail, and White Trail (0.5 miles), a back and forth trails, are accessible at a trailhead at Volunteer Firemen’s Park at the end of DiBella Drive.

FEATURED VENDOR SLINGERLAND FAMILY FARM Farm Fresh Delivered
We are a pasture-based farm established in 2013 with the mission to practice sensible, sustainable agriculture. We believe in farming with ethics and treating the land with respect. Our animals are 100% antibiotic, GMO and hormone-free. Likewise, our pastures are never treated with chemicals or pesticides. We raise food that we feel proud to provide to our family and the local community.
OUR PRODUCTS
All of our animals are fed with Non-GMO feed and we feature SoyFree Eggs. We are proud to offer a convenient home delivery option. PASTURE-RAISED CHICKEN Our chickens are raised in spacious open air shelters which are moved to fresh pasture on a daily basis. This allows the birds to have ample space and opportunity to forage. The result is healthy and all-natural chicken with superior flavor and texture. GRASS-FED, GRASS-FINISHED BEEF We raise high-quality Black Angus cattle that are rotated regularly to new pasture. This provides them with a fresh "salad bar" and produces well-marbled, flavorful, nutrient-dense beef.
PASTURE-RAISED, SOY-FREE FRESH EGGS Our humanely-raised, pastured hens forage freely in open fields and roost in an “egg mobile shelter that is moved frequently to fresh pasture. Clean air, sunshine and all the grass and bugs the hens can eat result in nutritionally-enriched eggs that are superior in flavor with a deep orange yolk. PASTURE-RAISED HERITAGE PORK We raise pigs on the edges of our pastures as well as in the wooded portions of the farm. They are moved daily to fresh areas so they stay clean and healthy. They spend their time rooting and enjoying plenty of fresh air and sunshine. The result is tender, juicy and flavorful pork. SEASONAL TURKEYS We offer both Heritage breed Bourbon Red and traditional Broad Breasted White turkeys that are raised on pasture. Turkeys are excellent foragers which enriches the flavor and texture of the meat. These turkeys make the perfect centerpiece to any holiday table. PASTURE-RAISED DUCKS These Grimaud Pekin ducks are widely known for their superior quality meat and sustainable production. Duck meat has a delicious red meat flavor that is more similar to steak than chicken or turkey, and can be substituted for either in many recipes. We are proud to offer these unique and flavorful French delicacies to the local area.
Visit us at the Guilderland Farmer's Market on Sunday from 10am-2pm or visit us on the web at www.SlingerlandFamilyFarm.shop www.OurTowneGuilderland.com | Mid-July 2019

OUCH! WHAT IS THAT SHARP PAIN IN MY FOOT? By: Dr. Kim Leis-Keeling
Guilderland, NY - Are your feet ready for summer? With the beautiful weather we have had lately I’m sure you have treated your little piggy’s to some fresh warm sunshine or a new pedicure. But are they ready for a long hike, a day pounding the pavement at the fair or outdoor festival? With the change of seasons also comes a change in footwear. This time of year the sandals and flip flops are flying off the shelves. Did you know that wearing the wrong type of footwear during summer activities can lead to a common foot condition call plantar fasciitis? Plantar Fasciitis is classically described as sharp pain on the bottom of your foot either by your heel or in the middle of your arch. It is especially sharp those first few steps out of bed in the morning. The pain gradually feels a little better as you get moving but then can be tender again after sitting for a period of time. What causes Plantar Fasciitis? Most people think it starts from a bone spur on the bottom of your heel. In reality, it most often begins from calf muscles that are too tight and then it is aggravated by wearing shoes with little support or a change in exercise routine such as running hills or jumping. It can also be caused by foot mechanics that are described as either too flat or too high of an arch. Left untreated, it can lead to other joint pain in the knees, hips and low back. This is due to altered walking mechanics because the individual is trying to avoid stepping on the painful foot. When we transition from winter shoes where our entire foot is covered and start to wear a pair a flip flops or sandals, there can be some initial strain on your feet and legs. Many summer shoes lack adequate support for spending longs days outdoors. Flip flops typically have the least amount of foot support and are best worn for a short duration such as a quick trip to the store or when they need to be removed frequently such as going to the beach or the pool. Strap type sandals with good arch support are better for longer walking trips or activities. Better shoes help to prevent strain on the intrinsic foot muscles, legs and hips. Over the years, I have treated many cases of plantar fasciitis with great success. Treatments typically include myofascial release, instrument assisted soft tissue techniques, cold laser, adjustments to misaligned joints, arch strengthening exercises, stretches and lastly orthotics if indicated. I will almost always use various taping techniques to see if it alleviates the pain and if it works, then the patient will most likely benefit from a different type of shoe or orthotics. Depending on the duration of the injury, night splints have also been helpful. If you or someone you know has been suffering from foot pain we would be happy to help. As always, you can call the Sports & Spinal Wellness Center for a free consultation at 518-869-3415. Please visit our website for more information at www.sportsandspinalwellness.com and like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sportsandspinalwellness. We would be happy to be a part of your healthcare team.

Do You Know Where Your Money Went? by Douglas Bauer Guilderland, NY - One of the key components of personal financial planning is an understanding of where your money goes each day,
Once you see where your “take-home” income goes, you can also start to add other items to your personal cash flow statement. These items
week, month, and year. Developing a personal cash flow analysis can be a very enlightening exercise, and potentially the starting point on the road to good financial health.
include savings (such as 401k or other employer-sponsored retirement plans, savings accounts, individual retirement accounts, etc.), FICA taxes, and income taxes. Finally, you can add a row for “inflows”, i.e. the gross income coming in the door from employment, pensions,
There are several ways to begin creating a personal cash flow analysis. The
social security, etc. Ideally, you would like to see that your “inflows” are equal to or greater than your
“old-fashioned” way involves manually tracking every dollar and cent which you (and your family) spend on any item – ranging from a bagel and coffee purchase, mortgage/rent payment to your utility bills. Although requiring the most effort, this method often provides the most accurate and useful results. You are not only tracking checks and credit card purchases, but also those small cash purchases that can add up over time. Be sure to also include purchases which may not recur monthly, such as insurance premiums, property taxes, vacation expenses, etc. Once you have tracked your outflows for at least a month or two, you can begin to allocate purchases to categories and learn where your money is going. More modern methods of tracking spending include the use of Personal Finance software, such as Quicken, or via websites such as Mint.com. Both of these can link to your financial accounts (bank, credit cards, etc.) in order to easily assemble and categorize data.
“outflows”, indicating that you living within or below your means. Developing a current cash flow analysis can help you uncover ways to save more money on a regular basis towards future goals, or pay down accumulated debt. The statement can also be helpful in analyzing the impacts of any strategies under consideration, such as saving more money in a retirement plan, or re-financing a mortgage, or taking on any new expenses such as a vehicle purchase or planned vacation. Getting one’s financial house in order starts with the basics. Creating a personal cash flow analysis is an excellent first step in the process. For further assistance and analysis please meet with your personal financial planner.

“Drive Out Hunger”
4 Common Sense Ways to Boost Summer Sales Whether summer is a busy or quiet time for your business, here are some things you can do to boost your business this summer!
Invite Your Customers Back!
Friday, August 23, 2019 Scramble Format Shotgun Start 9 AM
Offer your existing customers a “Bounce-back” offer! Following the Pareto Principle that 80% of your sales comes from 20% of your customers. Cultivate those relationships! Offer an appetizer on your next visit or a percentage off their next service. Remember it’s the thought that counts!
Western Turnpike Golf Course 2350 Western Avenue Guilderland, New York
Looking for cards or postcards for a professional looking offer? Talk to Brian at The UPS Store - (518) 452-6085 - www.theupsstore.com/0917 The UPS Store has been supporting businesses in Guilderland for 30 years!
Hand out some freebies! The Guilderland Food Pantry (GFP) has been assisting the “food insecure” in our town since 1979. Serving over 188 families, 26 seniors and 161 children every month, we fill the gap that occurs when the benefits run out or the job disappears. This year we celebrate 40 years of service to our neighbors in need. To meet this need we are hosting our third annual golf tournament to benefit the GFP and its clients. We invite you to join us in this effort. The GFP’s volunteer staff is dedicated to seeing that no neighbor goes hungry. We rely totally on the support from food drives and donations from people like you. Thank you for helping the Guilderland Food Pantry help others. Give it your best “shot” to help us “Drive Out Hunger.”

Give away a promotional product! Did you know? 84% of people remember the advertiser on a product they receive! My insurance agent stays “top of mind” with me because her name is on my favorite pizza cutter I use each week. Not bad for less than $2! For pens, mugs, t-shirts and yes, pizza cutters, talk to Sal Merola at NuTek Print & Promo Products - (518) 464-2608 - www.nutekonline.com
Connect with People! In this digital age people still matter. Join a Chamber of Commerce or a networking group. Commit to attending at least one event a month. Referral is the best source for new business. Don’t miss these opportunities! Contractors, Landscapers, Tree guys etc. don’t dismiss this suggestion. Everyone is always looking for “a guy!” Get out there and meet people. Checkout the Guilderland Chamber and all the things they have going on at www.guilderlandchamber.com or give Michelle or Carol a call at (518) 456-6611
Advertise in Our Towne Direct-mail is still one of the most cost-effective ways to reach the masses. For less than $100, you can reach 13,000+ homes and businesses in Guilderland each month. What do you want the people that live closest to your business to know? One of our Summer Specials is a quarter-page b/w ad for July and August for $200. Check out our other specials on the other side of this page. If you made it this far, thank you for reading. I know these suggestions are basic but that is the point. Common sense does not seem to be so common! Many of the businesses I work with spend money on the new shiny fad and neglect the basics. I love to talk marketing. So, If there is anything I can do to help you grow your business, please let me know. Have a GREAT summer!
