2.0 Introduction Within the two months (8 weeks) of internship training, I have the great opportunity to involve in several projects in term of schematic design, contract documentation & contract administration. The projects that I involved are Trinity Methodist Church (TMC), Segi Shop-Office, Adeland Apartment, & Ming Hooi Budget Hotel. Furthermore, I also went for site visit and clientconsultant meeting (CCM) on Lot 63 & Hee’s Residence project which is under construction process.

Figure 3.1: Perspective View of TMC. TMC is the main project that I in-charged within these two months. TMC is located at Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Most of the tasks I had being given are mostly based on construction drawing. Firstly, I was assigned to check the reflected ceiling layout with structural drawing that provided by civil engineers. Through this task, I learnt how to read and check the beam size on the structural drawing as well. Thus, I needed to design the light fitting on the reflected ceiling plan without clashing with the structural beam.

Next, I learnt how to illustrate fire staircase details to fulfill the requirement in Uniform Building by Laws (UBBL). In addition, the dimension of the riser, thread and nosing have to be accurate to reach each floor of the building. Hence, many basic calculations were involved in this task.

Moreover, I also illustrated the toilet details for TMC project. The arrangement of W.C, basic and even the floor tiles had to be considered when doing this drawing. This is to ensure that people will feel comfortable while using the toilet in the future.

Lastly, I was given the task on door & window schedule drawings. It is a table in the contract documents listing all the doors or windows by size, specifications, and location in the floor plan. Then I was assigned to cross check the type of doors and windows with the updated plan. This is to ensure the contractor know the number of the respective doors and windows to be ordered from supplier and where to install them.

4.0 Segi Shop-Office In this Segi Shop-Office, I only involved in a small part of it. I was assigned to update the wall section details of the project while it is under construction. I spent few hours and rushed this project over time as it was quite rush for construction. This taught me that how important those drawings are when the building is under construction. As an architect, we have the responsible to complete the drawing precisely for construction.

5.0 Adenland Apartment Adenland Apartment is still in a proposal stage project. In this project, I had the chance to be involved in presentation drawing. Through this, I can sharpen up my post production and photoshop skill. It is important especially for presentation drawings to catch the client attention.

6.0 Ming Hooi Budget Hotel Ming Hooi Budget Hotel is another KKHA project that located in Air Putih, Kuantan. Pahang. It is attached together with a row of shop lots. In this project, Ar. Kwan assigned me to design the screening on the Ming Hooi Budget Hotel as it was facing the west sun and needed a screening to be shaded. In the end, I proposed several contemporary screening designs for the client.

7.0 Site Visit & Cilent-Consultant Meeting Moreover, I still got the chance to have a site visit to Lot 63 and also Hee’s Residence which both was under construction. Lot 63 is a high rise commercial project while Hee’s Residence is a bungalow project. Within the site visit, I can felt the making process of an architect’s work from schematic design on the paper to the end product of the building. Last but not the least, Ar. Kwan also played an important role during client-consultant meeting (CCM). Ar. Kwan was like a “Chairman” during the meeting. All of the consultants had to discuss with Ar. Kwan and take note of what he advice for the respective project.

8.0 Conclusion Within these 8 weeks of internship training, I had involved in schematic design, contract documentation, contract administration, site visit and also ClientConsultant Meeting (CCM). Hence, I had the ability to produce a set of working drawings. In addition, I am able to under more on the process during Client-Consultant Meeting (CCM) minutes. Furthermore, I learnt how to work successfully in small team for each project and also had the great experience on the real and typical architect’s practice. Lastly, I really appreciate and I would like to thank to my mentor, Ar. Kwan Kim Huah and other colleagues who pay a lot of patient to teach me everything in architecture as much as possible within these 8 weeks.
