Take Stock in What is Important this New Year
Happy New Year!
BY CHRISTY & TERRY JAILLET
I
n 1961 President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech before the Canadian Parliament in which he uttered the famous line, “What unites us is greater than what divides us!” With today’s political rhetoric and constant conflict on social media, perhaps those words have never rang truer. No matter what side of the spectrum you fall, we can all take great pride in knowing that together we can overcome anything – just think back to the dark days following 9-11. The New Year is a time for us to take stock in our place in the world and recognize that we truly are in this together. People are more reliant on one another today than at any time in history. The food we eat comes from all over the world. And, while we are globally connected through the internet, your iPhone or laptop was designed in California and assembled in China with a microprocessor fabricated in Korea made from materials mined in Australia and Africa. The magazine you are reading right now was printed in Jacksonville with ink from Japan on paper made from Canadian wood. The words, articles and ads, however, all come from the tireless efforts of our team right here in South Florida! Our ability to live, cooperate and work together, even with those we don’t agree with, has made our lives inarguably better. We think this willingness to focus on common goals is what has made America so successful over the past 200 years. So, as we enter into 2020 and the upcoming Presidential Election, let’s remember President Kennedy’s words, seeking the good in people and looking for the common ground that unites us all as Americans.

Thank You for Reading! BY BEVERLY PERKINS
T
o celebrate literacy, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record ® campaign, the largest shared reading experience encourages millions of adults and children to participate on a designated day to bring attention to high-quality early education.
Regardless of size, the national event is held in big cities, small towns, and anywhere that children are learning. Through Hands-On Broward, hundreds of volunteers signed up including Hollywood’s Mitch Anton to read the chosen book Thank you, Omu! by Oge Mora to 40,000 kindergarten and first-grade students in 500 VPK centers, 225 schools, and 1,500 classrooms throughout Broward County. As always, the enthusiastic Hollywood City Commission candidate shows that he likes to go the extra mile. Prior to the big day, he purchased the book to research and read so he could be sure to provide all the important details. He has been involved in the program for three years and was assigned to read in Mr. Frazier’s class at Bethune Elementary this past November. “The lesson this year is about ‘sharing’ and I have figured out a way to make sure the kids understand how important ‘sharing’ is,” said Anton. “I take the day to teach the

students the lesson the book tries to instill.” Thank you, Omu! is based on the author’s experience about living with her grandmother in Africa. The title character, Omu, (pronounced Ah-Moo), cooked a huge pot of stew and all the people in her village could smell the scent. The villagers came by to find out what smelled so good and, in the end, Omu had given out all her food to them and had none for herself. But, soon, all the people she gave to came back to be sure she was also fed. “The moral of the story, of course, was ‘sharing’. So, I wanted to make sure the VPK class knew what sharing meant. I then showed the class that I had brought lollipops for everyone, but I was short one lollipop, which was a lie. So, I asked what three children wanted a lollipop and gave out the three lollipops. I then asked each one who was willing to give up their lollipop to me since I didn’t have one. Two of them said no, but one child gave it back.
So, we discussed what it means to share and how good they would feel if the shared something with their brother or sister or mother tonight,” explained Anton. “In the end, they all just wanted to hug me non-stop. They were full of love which makes the day that much more special.”

CAN DO KID
Hollywood Academy of Arts & Science Student is “One in a Minion” BY BEVERLY PERKINS
H
ollywood Academy of Arts & Science (HAAS) sixth-grade art student, Abril Patrizzi won third place in the Broward Education Foundation’s 23rd annual Innovative Teacher Idea Expo Student Art and Design Contest. This year’s expo theme, “One in A Minion”, ranged from student-generated artwork which reflected teachers sharing innovative ideas through a STEM project or classroom supplies using two-dimensional mediums of art such as colored pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic, photography, and digital design. All entries had to be original work designed and created by a student. However, it was important to note that no Minions © could be used. As a Title I school of arts and science, HAAS develops an exciting curriculum to promote the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) program schoolwide and throughout the community. Art teacher Hilary Fine achieves this through her Arts Integration Program which addresses all the STEAM components. “We were very excited to find out that Abril Patrizzi won 3rd place in the Innovative Teacher Idea Expo Student Art and Design Contest,” exclaimed Fine.
“It’s a delight to have the opportunity to help bring out Abril’s talent and love of the arts. She is a very insightful young artist who strives to provide a well-connected visual message to her works of art that support her design and excellence. As a 6th grader, Abril was blown away to have won along-side a 12th grader and a 9th grader.” “When I was first analyzing the need for a STEM design for the book cover, I wanted to express this through the visual design of the planets. While I was creating the circular motion, I found that it allowed so much dimension within it. This served as my inspiration which pulled me into the piece,” explained Patrizzi when asked about her competition piece. The talented student will be honored on February 8, 2020, at the “23rd Innovative Teacher IDEA EXPO” taking place at Nova Southeastern University. “Art allows me a wonderful method of expression
and allows me to dive deeper into a higher order of thinking along with multiple levels of advancement. It’s an exciting avenue to develop one’s rigor that other methods of study seem to lack. When I grow up, I’d like to take this level of advanced analytics into the world of the financial industry as it’s an exciting direction that I’d like to pursue. But with that said, I’ll always have art as a major part of my life. I’m so very excited that others enjoyed my STEM piece and that it has won 3rd place,” added Patrizzi. Broward Education Foundation’s 23rd Annual Innovative Teacher IDEA EXPO on Saturday, February 8. Presented by Broward Teacher’s Union, the event begins at 8 a.m. at Nova Southeastern University in the Rick Case Arena at the Don Taft University Center, 3301 College Avenue in Davie. Say Cheese – Local Girl Scout Wins Prestigious Silver Award BY BEVERLY PERKINS
T
o wrap up 2019, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida celebrated 137 young women who earned the prestigious distinction of becoming a Silver Award Girl Scout. The 2019 class of Silver Award Girl Scouts, with 76 from Broward County, were honored with the first-time ever showcase in Palm Beach County. Among the ambitious girls who worked as individuals or as small groups to complete the 28 different projects benefitting their communities was Sara Kaufman from Hollywood. For a Girl Scout Cadette to achieve the prestigious title they must make a change for the better. The opportunity to do so allows scouts to show their leadership skills and make a difference in the world. Sara was recognized for being an outstanding Cadette Girl Scout for a selfless Silver Award Project to benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Broward Oncology. Sara was inspired to create her Silver Award Project “Technology for Oncology” after dealing with the loss of her father to colon cancer when she was just a youngster in kindergarten. Since then, she joined the fight to end cancer. Determined to do what she can at such a young age, she donated her hair in the third grade to Locks of Love, and now completed her Silver Award Project which was to donate nine new tablets to two different hospitals and to start

an informational website to help patients navigate through resources. The compassionate teen funded her project by hosting two awareness events called “Mitzvah Days”. In Judaism, a “mitzvah” is performing a good deed. She certainly accomplished this commandment by encouraging others to write cards to hospital patients which she passed out along with brochures and cupcakes. Sara also held a fundraiser at a local pizza place to raise funds for the tablet accessories. In the end, some of the tablets were donated, but most of them were bought using money gifted to her from her Bat Mitzvah. “Through my Silver Award Project, I learned about the joys of giving back to my community. After each hospital visit, a feeling of utter joy suffused me. I find it to be hard sometimes to find things that truly make me that happy, but I have learned about how good giving back is, and I plan on doing it more in the future,” expressed the 9th grade scout. “When I was handing the devices to the hospital representatives and meeting the patients, a wave of joy washed over me and, to this day, has not seemed to leave. Not only am I grateful for all that I have and for the chance to help others, but this project has given me a chance to see that I can make a difference, that I am not just a short freshman girl.”

PRIVATE SCHOOL GUIDE

hen considering sending your child to a private school, it is vital to take into account various factors, especially if you have to pay a pretty penny to attend. In this day and age, it is evident that academics are getting more rigorous, standardized tests are increasingly difficult, and the pressure of college is no joke. Colleges today want a well-rounded, educated, unique students, so it is key to find a private school that will enable your child to embody these qualities. Find a school with good extracurriculars The first factor to consider should be the size of the school. It will be harder for your child to stand out in a very large class. Most colleges compare students against their class, not other schools, so this factor is very important. It will be easier for your child to stand out in a small pond than in a large sea of students. Additionally, you should ensure that there are ample extracurriculars at your selected private school that appeal to your child. Having good extracurriculars and sports teams should be a deciding factor when selecting a private school. Colleges often look to recruit athletes from wellknown private schools. A wide variety of extracurriculars gives your child the option to be involved in an organization that actually interest them. Colleges want ambitious students, so leadership positions in clubs and organizations are crucial to your child’s success. Prioritizes academics and education Another factor to consider would be the passing rates of Advanced Placement (AP) and Cambridge’s Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) exams. High passing rates indicate that the educators at the school

Passing an exam often allows the student to receive college credit, so

they won’t have to retake that course in college. Not only do high passing rates increase the likelihood of your child receiving college credit, but it implies that your child is more likely to do better in the course throughout the year as well. Academics that are challenging, high passing rates on ap exams Apart from just the passing rate itself, parents should also pay attention to score distributions. The highest possible AP score is a 5, and the lowest passing score is a 3. A school may have a high passing rate, but it is important to know the proportion of students receiving 4’s and 5’s, not just 3’s. Different scores may earn a student different credits at certain colleges. Although it is important for passing rates to be high, the environment of the school will also contribute to your child’s success. School should be a place where students should feel comfortable, safe, and welcomed. It is now more important than ever that your child feels safe at school, but as a parent, you should be certain that you feel comfortable just the same as you send your child off to that school every weekday.
Guidance counselors that care about your child’s future Most importantly, students should feel comfortable reaching out to guidance counselors and advisors. Having supportive guidance counselors and understanding teachers can truly have a positive impact on your child’s high school experience. Counselors should be available to aid with schedules, college applications, college essays, and even personal issues. Good college advisors and counselors are imperative to making the college application process as seamless as possible. It is important to make sure that guidance counselors and college advisors are accessible to students at all times. Overall, there are many factors to consider when selecting the right private school for your child. The importance of these factors may vary depending on your child’s interests and priorities. Although this information may seem overwhelming, it should be helpful in narrowing down which school is the best fit for your child. With such amazing options in the area, no matter where your child ends up, they will be receiving an amazing education.

Ansel & Miller Welcomes New Attorney BY TERRY JAILLET
L
ocal personal injury, wrongful death and maritime trial law firm, Ansel & Miller, welcomed a new attorney to the firm. Lilia Biberman joined the firm to focus her legal practice on personal injury law.
“I have a passion for fighting for justice and helping clients achieve maximum results,” Biberman commented regarding the announcement. Ansel & Miller was founded in 1984 by Eric Ansel, an award-winning personal injury attorney. With the addition of Biberman, the firm now has seven attorneys focused exclusively on personal injury, wrongful death, and maritime cases. Biberman brings a diverse personal background to the firm. She speaks Russian fluently and is a member of the bar in both New York and Florida. Shortly after graduating Brooklyn Law School in 2004, she moved to sunny South Florida, where she practiced real estate and trademark law in addition to personal injury. She now plans to focus exclusively on personal injury at Ansel & Miller.
Ansel & Miller focuses its practice on individuals, not corporations. They believe focusing the boutique firm on their individual clients helps set them apart and results in the maximum benefits and settlements for their clients. The law firm has a reputation for successfully adjudicating cases. That reputation allows them to settle cases that are not tried to verdict for substantial amounts prior to trial. They win verdicts and insurance companies are aware of that fact. Biberman joins a team with deep experience. Ansel & Miller has been trying and negotiating multi-million dollar claims for victims of accidental injuries for more than 30 years, including several high-profile large settlements in the tens of millions of dollars. They serve clients throughout Florida. n For more information about Ansel & Miller visit anselmiller.com or call 954-922-9100. The firm is located at 1939 Tyler Street in Hollywood.

ASK THE EXPERT
Lumbar Disc Herniation with a Pinched Nerve BY EDWARD J. FRANKOSKI, D.O. here is often confusion when diagnosing neck or back pain since many refer to their discomfort as being a pinched nerve or a herniated disc. The diagnosis is often correct because the two conditions are the most common problem of the pain, but they are both different issues that just happen to occur at the same time. Typically, a herniated disc occurs in the cervical spine (neck) and the lumbar spine (back). Disc pain tends to most often take place in the lower back where most weightbearing and movement in the spine occurs. A pinched nerve is caused by a herniated disc pressing against the nerve. In most cases, a herniated disc is not painful, it’s the leaking gel substance which it contains that pinches, inflames, and irritates the nearby nerve. A spine is made of twenty-four bones called vertebrae, but the lumbar (lower back) bears most of the weight of the body. In between each of the five lumbar vertebrae (bones) is a disc which acts like a tough fibrous shock-absorbing pad which prevents the vertebrae from rubbing together. A disc is filled with a gel-like center and if the disc ruptures or bulges, the gel substance escapes and causes irritation to the spinal nerves resulting in inflammation, pressure, and pain. Some may also experience leg pain, numbness, and tingling. The spine contains many nerves which branch out and travel to various parts of the body. If a disc herniates it usually presses on the spinal cord or spinal nerves. These nerves pass through small areas between the vertebrae and the discs, so if a herniated disc presses into the area, it can compress (“pinch”) the nerve which results
T
in the pain associated with the herniated disc. A herniation may develop instantly or gradually over weeks or months. Many factors increase the risk such as lifestyle choices, aging, and poor posture. Obesity, inadequate nutrition and lack of regular exercise, as well as tobacco use, contribute to the condition. As the body ages, biochemical changes can cause the discs to dry out and be less capable to absorb shock from movement. Additionally, body mechanics such as incorrect lifting and twisting combined with daily wear and tear stress the lumbar spine. Rheumatoid arthritis and genetics may also contribute if a family has a history of the problem. It’s important to seek medical attention if one is experiencing numbness, weakness, tingling, and extreme burning, or pain. An x-ray may be needed to rule out any other causes of back pain. Imaging tests such as a CT or MRI scan can verify the extent and location of the damage of the soft tissues. Sometimes a myelogram (injection of dye) is needed so the physician can view the problem area with more ease. The condition is most often treated with rest, pain medication, spinal injections, and physical therapy. Many find improvement in approximately 6 weeks and return to normal activity. However, those with continuing symptoms may be recommended to have surgery. Over time, the herniation may shrink, and the pain will subside and perhaps eventually disappear entirely. Edward J. Frankoski, D.O. has received extensive training in Pain Management, and always stays current with all new and up to date through many educational meetings throughout the year. He has been practicing Pain Management in the Aventura area for over fifteen years and he has been involved in drug research as well as procedure research studies. Interventional Pain Physicians of South Florida is located at 21097 NE 27th Court, Suite 340, Aventura, 33180. To schedule an appointment, please call (305)932-1660.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Happy New Year, Hollywood! BY MAYOR JOSH LEVY 020 is set to be another exciting year in our city’s history, both in terms of our continuing to advance improvements in the delivery of city services, and in terms of the long-range investments that we are looking to make to further improve the enjoyment, safety and quality of life for all of us here in Hollywood. Although, we have many more accomplishments, here is just a shortlist of what we achieved in 2019: ▸ Earlier in the year, Hollywood voters approved a historic General Obligation Bond that will provide renewed city infrastructure, investments in resiliency and open space, much needed public safety assets, and revitalized parks, sports fields and golf courses where families can gather, play and enjoy the natural beauty of Hollywood. ▸ The Police Department was awarded Reaccreditation status from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. Hollywood is one of 166 law enforcement agencies with this accreditation – out of nearly 400 agencies in Florida. ▸ Fire Rescue crews responded to nearly 28,000 Fire and EMS emergency calls and 13,000 transports. Beach Safety staff rescued over 220 swimmers, treated over 1,200 first aids, responded to over 130 medical emergencies. The Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department maintained the ISO Class 1 ranking for the 18th consecutive year. Hollywood is one of 38 cities rated Class 1 out of 348 nationally. ▸ A Stand up Paddleboard Pilot was conducted over a six month period which resulted in recommendations for permanent code modifications to open more of the beach to non-motorized water sports. We implemented Little Free Libraries at city neighborhood parks and a guide for Hollywood’s close-to-shore coral reefs. ▸ The Code Compliance Division improved its enforcement methods to resulting in faster compliance on minor property maintenance violations. ▸ Public Works completed the Annual Arbor Day event and celebrated the City’s 40th year as a Tree City USA. ▸ The City Manager’s Negotiation Team held 19 AFSCME contract negotiation meetings, 14 IAFF contract negotiation meetings and 12 PBA contract negotiation meetings which resulted in reaching agreement on five successor collective bargaining agreements, with health benefits reform and pension restoration as a primary collective achievement. ▸ Our Information Technology Department, Financial Services Department, Human Resources Department, and Office of Procurement Services successfully implemented the first five phases of the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System which includes modules such as Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Advanced Procurement, Fixed Assets, Human Capital Management, Payroll, and Budgetary Control. ▸ A new micro-transit transportation circulator service was launched providing on-demand service for downtown Hollywood, Federal Highway and Hollywood Beach. ▸ Staff finalized the sale of City-owned parcels to make way for construction of Pinnacle at Peacefield affordable rental apartments for seniors, resulting in net proceeds of $1,575,000. ▸ The Public Utilities Department applied to FDEP for the permits to install two new Deep Injection Wells to divert effluent flows for the Ocean Outfall. It’s an honor to serve as Mayor and I look forward to continuing our collective achievement of great things for our city in 2020 and beyond. Sincerely yours, Josh Levy

Are You a Candidate for Eyelid Rejuvenation? It’s always a big night when you have this little blue pill.
50 Generic Viagra pills for only $2/pill
1-888-679-5797
BY CHARLES A. MESSA, III, M.D., F.A.C.S. he eyes are the first thing we notice when we meet someone. Beautiful eyes can make up for other features that are less than ideal. Likewise, eyes that are tired, droopy, or puffy may not reflect a vibrant inner self. It is often said that the earliest signs of aging are around the eyes. Perhaps people are always questioning whether or not you had a good night’s sleep because your eyes are swollen with bags. Fortunately, at the Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center, we can give you dramatically younger looking eyes through “eyelid lifts”, also known as blepharoplasty. A primary reason for droopy eyes is simply due to age. It can also be hereditary. As everything droops, so do the eyebrows. As the outer part of the eyebrows droop, the skin of the upper eyelids will look saggy, as if you had developed extra skin that was not there several years before. Removing this “extra” skin can drastically improve that droopy look. Another reason for “tired eyes” is because of droopy or migrating eyelid fat. This fat is held back by a thin wall of fibrous tissue called the orbital septum, which weakens over time. The fat, held firmly back by this wall in youth can bulge with age, giving you “baggy” upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes this extra fat and tightens the wall, restoring a youthful contour. For those patients with puffiness under the eyes or baggy upper and lower eyelids, laser eyelid surgery can reduce and often eliminate these problems. The end results are a more alert and youthful look around the eyes. The prominent fat pockets can be removed from a hidden incision along the inside surface of the eyelid. This “no stitch”, no external scar technique is utilized when patients have fat prominence of “eyelid bags” alone without excess or sagging eyelid skin. If minimal excess skin is present, a skin pinch technique is combined with transconjunctival fat removal. In this case, a “pinch” of lower eyelid skin is removed. These techniques typically result in less swelling, less discomfort, and shorter recovery time. I will assess which technique is ideal for your eyes during your personal consultation. Recovery from eyelid surgery usually takes seven to ten days. Sunglasses allow you to go out in public immediately after surgery, and make-up can be worn within about one week. Normal activity can be resumed within a few days, and exercise can be resumed within 14 days after surgery. If the eyes looking back at you in the mirror are not reflecting how you are feeling, it might be time to consider a blepharoplasty.

THE DONOWAY CENTER NEW HOPE FOR PANCREATIC CANCER PATIENTS Patients diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer have few treatment options. However, a new procedure called Irreversible Electroporation or IRE for short has changed that for many patients who are seeing a doubling and tripling of their life expectancies. Dr. Robert Donoway, who has one of the largest International experiences for performing this procedure on the pancreas and liver is a Hollywood based, Sloan Kettering trained Pancreatic Surgical Oncologist, and former medical director of two of the local cancer programs remains among a very small handful of Pancreatic surgeons who perform the procedure which is done in the operating room as an outpatient.
Robert B. Donoway, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.S.S.O. Diplomate American Board of Surgery Diplomate, Society of Surgical Oncology Former Medical Director Memorial Cancer Center Medical Director, Atlas Oncology: Institute for Pancreatic Cancer IRE/NanoKnife Ablation
During the procedure, Dr. Donoway places fine needle probes under direct ultrasound guidance into and around the pancreatic tumor while carefully avoiding critical structures. High voltage current up to 3000 volts is then delivered in 90-microsecond pulses synchronized with the patient’s heart rhythm to avoid any cardiac problems. The pulses destroy the cancer cell membranes which then causes the tumor to die and be absorbed by the body. The average procedure lasts approximately 1-2 hours and the patients may be discharged the following day. A brief recovery means the patient can start chemotherapy and radiation that much sooner. Dr. Donoway is participating in several clinical studies identifying the best chemotherapy and immunotherapies to be used along with IRE. Dr. Donoway states, “The results so far have been very encouraging and we have begun using it for other select cancers. The longest survivors are now out over 5 years and without evidence of cancer recurrence. In the past, without IRE they would have been likely to have only lived a year and so this technique opens the whole new avenue for treating those eligible patients in a more targeted fashion.”

MESSAGE FROM THE POLICE CHIEF
Make Crime Prevention Measures A Habit for Habit BY NORTH MIAMI BEACH CHIEF OF POLICE WILLIAM “BILL” HERNANDEZ, MSM
S
tatistics show that crime usually increases during and after the holiday season. This special time of the year is a time when busy people become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. The happy shopper is rushing around, absent-mindedly looking for last-minute gifts that present more opportunities for the criminal looking for an easy “score”. One can never be too careful, too prepared, or too aware, but with the hustle and bustle of the end-ofthe-year holiday season, it is especially the time to be mindful of personal safety, online safety, and to practice crime prevention measures. Crime prevention involves being aware of our surroundings and potential areas of danger, thereby closing the criminal’s window of opportunity. Opportunity is the criminal’s key to crime. Here are just a few general tips to keep yourself and your property safe after the holiday season. Crime prevention is more than a holiday activity. Home Safety ▸ Always lock your doors and windows, even if you plan to be out for a short amount of time. ▸ Leave lights turned on both inside and outside your residence after dark. Criminals do not like bright light places. ▸ f you plan on being away from home for several days, make arrangements to have someone pick up your mail. An overstuffed mailbox is a sure sign that no one is home and burglars are tempted to check those envelopes for gifts. The use of automatic lights inside the home will give an appearance that someone is present. Car Safety ▸ When parking your vehicle to go shopping, remember where you parked it. Always park in a well-lit and well-traveled area. Do not park in a remote dark area. ▸ When you return to the vehicle, scan the interior of your car to be sure no one is hiding inside. Check to see if you are being followed. ▸ Have your keys in your hands when approaching your vehicle. You will be ready to unlock the door and will not be delayed by fumbling and looking for your keys. ▸ When storing items purchased at the stores, place them out of sight. The best place is in a locked trunk. ▸ Do not leave your purse, wallet, or cellular telephone in plain view. Online Shopping ▸ Beware of the “a good deal” scams. Things are not always what they appear to be. ▸ Before surfing the internet, secure your personal computers by updating security software. ▸ Keep your personal information private and your passwords are secure. ▸ When ordering online use a credit card instead of a debit card. It is much easier to cancel a credit card if an account number is illegally obtained. Focus on your personal safety and the safety of those with you. The point of crime prevention is to make that as difficult for criminals as possible. Be awake and be aware if a crime is committed, make sure to report it immediately. Remember, crime prevention is more than a holiday activity. To learn more about the City of North Miami Beach Police Department, please visit www.citynmb. com. EMAIL PHOTOS TO: editorhollywood@ourcitymedia.com Ted Cookson and Barbara Stein carried a copy of Our City Hollywood with them as they sailed around the world. In the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean the Hollywood couple disembarked at St. Helena Island. Measuring only five miles by ten miles and with a population of 4,550, verdant St. Helena is one of the most-remote islands in the world. Discovered by a Portuguese navigator in 1502, the stark-yetbeautiful St. Helena is best known today as the site of Napoleon’s final exile.
