The Other November Day to Give Thanks

M

ost Americans gather with family and friends on the fourth Thursday of November to give thanks and enjoy a wonderful meal. This great tradition dates back to pilgrims and Native Americans eating wild turkey in New England, or so the story goes. There is another day in November, however, when we should all give thanks as well. On November 11th we celebrate Veterans Day. It is the day when we recognize the men and women who have risked life and limb to protect us, and our way of life. On Veteran’s Day, I think of true American Heroes, like Pembroke Pines native Patrick Xavier, Jr., a Marine who gallantly gave his life for his country. I also think of the countless Lance Corporals and Specialists, Sailors and Airmen, who we rarely read about. These faceless heroes silently labor away, frequently at risk, yet are seldom recognized. They don’t ask for much. Each one of them felt a calling to volunteer; some because they wanted to prove something to themselves; others, because of a deep desire to “give back” to their country. Perhaps we should go out of our way on November 11th to do something nice for them. So, if you see a service member on that special day, buy him a drink, pick up the tab for her lunch, or simply say “thank you” or “Oorah!” It doesn’t sound like much, but it might be all that they need. Happy Thanksgiving, and to all those veterans out there, Thanks! Sincerely, Terry Jaillet President & Publisher

Weekly Farmer’s Market Opens in Bay Harbor Islands By Beverly Perkins

A

lthough the temperatures are still high during fall in South Florida, most residents nevertheless enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. Many open-air activities, festivals and concerts begin to take place once the temps drop a few degrees. Locals like grabbing their pumpkin spice lattes, taking a stroll and participating in such events on weekends. A great option to visit on Sunday mornings is the new Bijou Bay Harbor Farmer’s Market. The waterfront project welcomes existing neighbors and potential new ones to enjoy fresh food, music and fun at the weekly market. Bijou Bay Harbor, a boutiquestyle waterfront condominium, recently launched its weekly Farmer’s Market which will take place every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the development’s garden-like sales center. The grand opening of the Farmer’s Market was a huge success with a myriad of food options, great music and picturesque waterfront backdrop. More than 70 people came out for the grand opening including members of the Bay Harbor Islands Town Council and Hon. Linda Zilber, the former mayor of Bay Harbor Islands. Many people took advantage of the walkability of the community to enjoy an afternoon of sunshine. Other guests arrived by boat or on paddleboards and kay-

aks using Bijou Bay Harbor’s bay access. “Opening up a farmer’s market was a great opportunity for guests to mingle with their neighbors and for potential buyers to see what type of community they’d be living in,” said Liza Hernandez, Bijou Bay Harbor’s Director of Sales. “There is a need for this in the area for people who like to walk or cycle around their neighborhood on the weekends. We thought Bijou Bay Harbor would be the perfect place for the community to enjoy the water and delicious food from local businesses.” Participating vendors brought fresh produce, acai bowls, local honey, orchids and plants, Indian food, fresh-made ceviche, fresh-baked goods, handmade soaps, artisanal made-to-order brick oven pizza, olive oils and more. With 60 percent of its available units sold, construction of the luxurious Bay Harbor Islands condominium is expected to start later this year. At that point, the Weekly Farmer’s Market will move to a different location, but still in Bay Harbor Islands. Bijou Bay Harbor is located at 9521 E. Bay Harbor Drive, Bay Harbor Islands, FL 33154.

Come Along for the Ride – Get in Gear Community Bike Ride COMMUNITY NEWS

By Beverly Perkins

A

s part of the ACHIEVE wellness initiative, the North Miami Parks and Recreation Department and the North Miami Police Department came together six years ago to create The Get in Gear Community Bike Ride. The goal of the two organizations is to encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle through exercise and nutritional diet. The wellness initiative project, Action, Communities for Health, Innovation, & EnVironmental ChangE (ACHIEVE), began when the City of North Miami wanted to integrate opportunities for physical activity, better nutritional choices and tobacco cessation among its residents. Statistics found that thirty-eight percent of adults and thirteen percent of the youth within the city were considered obese. Therefore, the city committed to building a healthier community by encouraging health and wellness. The overall mission is to reduce the risks of chronic diseases and conditions associated with obesity.

North Miami’s goals are to: ▸▸ ▸▸ ▸▸ ▸▸

Educate the community on the benefits of healthy lifestyle behaviors. Improve opportunities for physical activity within the community. Improve nutrition within the community. Make connections within community schools to facilitate good nutrition and regular physical activity.

The Get in Gear Community Bike Ride is a perfect opportunity to get residents out of the house and into the South Florida sunshine. Not only is it fun, but a great way to see the city while getting exercise, meeting neighbors and making new friends. The 10 mile ride through North Miami occurs on the second Saturday of each month. Everyone meets at MOCA Plaza, 770 NE 125th Street, North Miami. Registration begins at 8:00 am and riders depart promptly at 8:30 am. This month’s ride is on November 12th. A police escort will take participants safely through the city. Stops are made for water and restroom breaks. Besides bringing a bicycle, it is encouraged to also bring friends along. Helmets are required for all those age sixteen and younger.

For details on the Get in Gear Bike Ride, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-895-9840, or visit northmiamifl.gov

Charles A. Messa, III, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Messa provided answers to some commonly asked questions about his practice at the Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center.

What types of non-surgical enhancements do you offer? We provide a variety of non-sur-

gical enhancements, including neurotoxins that are used for facial lines, like Botox and Dysport. We also offer soft tissue facial fillers, such as Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Voluma and Radiesse, and fat grafting for correction of facial, body and breast contour deformities or depressions and buttock enhancement. We offer a comfortable and relaxed setting with advanced technology in cosmetic plastic surgery. While beauty and confidence is our ultimate goal, the patient’s safety is of the utmost importance to me and my staff. the latest techniques in surgical and non-surgical procedures. I caution patients on trying “new techniques” until they have been approved by the FDA and have documented benefits in controlled medical research trials. Some so-called ‘new techniques’ are not more

advanced and therefore, not beneficial. They are only gimmicks that practitioners use to sell to patients. It is very important for my practice to promote treatments that I know will benefit the patient that are safe and effective.

What is your background? I have been in

practice for almost 20 years. I was trained at two outstanding universities--the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Massachusetts. The physicians I trained under were excellent teachers and highly skilled surgeons. I had very comprehensive training in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as general surgery, with extensive experience in cosmetic plastic surgery. I am certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of after Plastic Surgeons.

What do you enjoy about what you do?

The aspect of my job I enjoy the most is seeing the positive effect that my work as a surgeon and physician has on making people feel better both through enhancement of external appearance and through improved self-esteem and well-being.

Describe any community involvement? My

wife Rosalee and I have been Weston residents for almost 20 years. We support many local charities, especially those for needy women and children, such as Kids in Distress, Women in Distress and ChildNet. We are also members of the Weston Philharmonic Society, NSU Museum of Art, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, active in the Russell Life Skills and Reading Foundation, The Children’s Fund for Glycogen Storage Disease Research, The American Cancer Society, and other community charities. My wife and I are parishioners of Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church in Weston. The Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center is located at 2823 Executive Park Dr., in Weston. World-Renowned Pop Artist Launched BB Americas New Credit Card Collection communityt news

By Beverly Perkins

M

any who reside in the 305 are quite familiar with the work of Romero Britto. The neo-pop artist has left his mark throughout South Florida with his vibrant, bold and colorful graffiti-like paintings. His work is known all over the world as an expression of hope and happiness. Besides recently designing the City of North Miami Beach’s original commemorative artwork and the Michael-Ann Russell JCC Maccabi Games 2016 logo, the international artist also designed the first-ever collection of commissioned artwork for BB Americas’ credit and debit cards in the United States. Earlier this year, BB Americas announced their partnership with the Brazilian-American global art icon. The joint venture would allow Romero Britto to create an exclusive credit card collection for BB Americas customers.

To celebrate the launch of the Britto Card Collection by BB Americas, BB Americas hosted a cocktail reception at Aventura Mall in late September. Romero Britto, along with Antonio Cassio Segura, the CEO of BB Americas, unveiled the first three new colorful designs created by the artist himself. “The Britto Card Collection by BB Americas raises the art of banking to a new level,” said Segura. “We are privileged to offer our customers our own customized credit and debit cards, and continue BB Americas’ tradition of supporting arts, culture, philanthropy and our community.” “I am honored to join forces with BB Americas to elevate the art of banking with this new collection,” said the artist Romero Britto. “I have always have had the vision to make art accessible to all, and I

hope that everyone will enjoy taking a piece of my art with them everywhere they go.” The exclusive collection will feature three new designs over three years. The collection includes a Gold Checking Debit Card, a Platinum Credit Card and a Platinum Plus Credit Card. In addition to the card unveiling was a check donation presentation from Banco Do Brasil Americas to the non-profit organization Best Buddies for $25,000. Also in attendance at the packed event were Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman, City Commissioners and Brazilian Ambassador, Adalnio Senna Ganem. A believer in the role of an artist as an agent of positive change, Romero Britto is committed to developing and supporting the role art will continue to play in world issues.

It’s a Chanukah Miracle – JAFCO Hosts its Annual Luncheon on Give Miami Day By Beverly Perkins

F

or the past six years, the Aventura/North Miami Dade chapter of JAFCO has hosted its Chanukah Miracles Luncheon. This year the Jewish holiday begins on Christmas Eve which makes it possible for the 7th annual luncheon to be held late fall on Thursday, November 17th. Coincidentally, this date is also Give Miami Day, a day when the Miami Foundation and their partners provide bonus gifts to registered nonprofit agencies based on the total amount of donations the organization receives on this day. Since JAFCO is registered for Give Miami Day, all donations made on the day of the event, November 17th will receive an added bonus gift. The luncheon honoring Shlomo Geva takes place at the Diplomat Golf & Tennis in Hallandale Beach. Guests are asked to bring gift cards from Target, Walmart, Toys R Us and Best Buy to help fulfill the wishes of the 500 children JAFCO serves in its group home, emergency shelter, family preservation and developmental disability programs. The event will feature a shopping boutique, silent auction, JAFCO program and Godparent pinning ceremony. The JAFCO Godparent circle is comprised of a generous group of donors who spiritually adopt all of the JAFCO children. Godparents provide safety and security for the children by making a 10-year pledge of $18,000, which helps support the needs of the children, including food, shelter, clothing, education and therapy. “It’s amazing to see such an outpouring of love from the community,” said Sarah Franco, JAFCO executive director. “The Aventura/North Miami chapter has grown exponentially and as a result, we are able to see smiles on the faces of these precious children during the holidays. That is a priceless gift.” The boutique opens at 10 a.m. Guests will be greeted with Mimosas. Those purchasing items at the boutique by 11:00am receive five free raffle tickets. Tickets cost $118 per person. JAFCO is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization established in 1992 to provide services to abused and neglected children and those with developmental disabilities in South Florida. It’s not all about Dollars, But Plenty of Sense at Aventura Waterways International Finance Academy school news

By Beverly Perkins

T

he Aventura Waterways K-8 Center has a mission of providing their students with the very best education combined with broad and diverse experiences. Besides their traditional educational approach, they offer a STEM program and International Finance at their Preparatory Academy. Since its inception in 2014, the finance program has become increasingly popular. Currently, sixty-eight students are enrolled in the International Finance Academy (IFA). The curriculum allows students to engage in a course of study that combines economics, personal and business finances, marketing, globalization, and international trade. In June of 2017, the inaugural class will complete the three year program. “The goal of our academy is to create young entrepreneurial minded leaders/students with a strong foundation to advance their studies in high school and beyond,” says Social Studies Department Chairman and MUN Advisor Jeffrey S. Dean. “Additionally, we attempt to give our students real world experiences and extracurricular activities beyond our localized classroom instruction.” Students have had the opportunity to take field trips to Chicago and San Francisco where they received instruction from industry leaders. These individualized learning seminars were given by well-known organizations such as Whole Foods and eBay. The students also got to experience a behind the scenes look at Wrigley Field and AT&T Park’s marketing programs. The academy boasts a championship caliber Model

United Nations program that IFA students are able to participate in. They have won many Best Delegate awards, including awards at the Global Classrooms International Middle School Conference in New York City, in which they participate in each year. Last year students took home awards on the International Labor Organization and the Security Council. IFA students have been instrumental in the team winning overall Best Delegation at the district wide competition sponsored by the Foundations for Leadership organization. Another highlight of the program is the Florida Council on Economic Education Stock Market Challenge. In the biyearly challenge, students engage in a real time simulation where they invest a $100,000 portfolio. Students compete with high school and middle school students from across the state to gain the most value in a $100,000 portfolio over a 10 week period. So far, IFA students have won numerous regional awards and presently have one student placing 4th in the state with a 7.95% return after only two weeks. The academy is looking to establish students in the Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA) program and to add a certification in Microsoft Office component to the program, while exploring the possibilities to partner with local business and civic leaders/programs in the community. Aventura Waterways Preparatory Academy is located at 750 Ives Dairy Road, Miami. For more information, please call (305)654-1550.

RECIPE

Some people are intimidated by the thought of cooking Thanksgiving dinner. The idea of serving relatives and friends dry turkey can be stressful. Have no fear, though, cooking a Thanksgiving turkey is actually quite easy. We have been using this recipe at home for years with great success. Enjoy!

Ingredients: 1 large whole turkey (fresh or defrosted) ½ cup unsalted melted butter or olive oil Kosher Salt Fresh ground pepper One celery stalk (cut into thirds) One onion, chopped into 1-2 inch pieces Two apples, chopped into 1-2 inch pieces Herbs (sage, rosemary and/or thyme) Instructions: Preheat oven to 325° F. Remove neck and giblets from turkey, then wash thoroughly, inside and out. Pat dry with paper towels. Place the turkey, breast side up, on a cooking rack, in a shallow roasting pan. Coat the exterior of the turkey with the olive oil or butter, then season with kosher salt and pepper. Loosely stuff the turkey with the celery, onion, apples and herbs. Place prepared turkey in center of oven. After 2 ½ hours, loosely cover the turkey with aluminum foil, to prevent the skin from burning. Continue to cook until the breast of the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 180° F. Remove from oven, and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes before carving. If things don’t go as planned, you can always call the Butterball turkey experts for advice at 1-800-BUTTERBALL (288-8372).

oniquita, today is your day to take out the garbage,” my father used to remind me every two days after my sisters had had their turns. I would roll my eyes and say, “Pa, can you please do it today? Or can we skip? There is hardly anything in there.” Negative… every time. Could someone else have taken out the bags of used goods we so easily discarded? Sure! But it was my responsibility, and each family member played a role in the rhythm of our home. Society today has created a sense of immediacy. We receive information within seconds, deliveries of products within two hours, and make

plans for playdates by texting at a moment’s notice: not much visible effort, not much open planning. So how do we raise children who can take advantage of modernity while still understanding that life is not always so simple? How do we raise children to be grateful for the commodities in their life without breeding a sense of entitlement? There is no coincidence that the sound of great is at the beginning of grateful. In this Thanksgiving season, my suggestion is simple: go back to basics. ▸▸ Provide your child with opportunities to serve the community. Even the youngest of children can make a lemonade stand to raise money or decorate bags that later will be filled with treats for hospital patients. ▸▸ Be my dad, and give your child chores. Simple tasks will give children a sense of purpose, instill responsibility, and provide opportunities for accomplishment. Chores will also help them understand that everyone needs to pitch in and help… that is how we effectively build community. ▸▸ Create expectations for your child to work toward earning rewards. (Set attainable benchmarks and milestones.) And by rewards I don’t mean the new iPhone 7… I mean something more like being the one who chooses the game on family game night. Intangible rewards are far more meaningful in the long-run. ▸▸ Be a role model... your child is watching. Say “please” and “thank you” to those with whom you interact, to teach your child to do the same. If this doesn’t come naturally to your son or daughter, don’t be afraid to give a reminder. The goal is, after all, to raise great-ful children. From early childhood through Grade 12, Scheck Hillel Community School educates and inspires students to become exemplary global citizens with enduring Jewish identity and values through an individualized college preparatory curriculum highlighted by STEM and design, Capstone, college dual enrollment, arts, athletics and service learning. Its 14 acres include a new 115,000-sq.-ft athletic complex with additional academic expansion plans. Scheck Hillel is one of the world’s largest Jewish community day schools and a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. For information, please visit eHillel.org.

ith the election only days away, many individuals ask how their portfolios will be affected with a new president. Some are concerned about the impacts that Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump could have on the stock market. A presidential election can certainly change the direction of the country, and could play a role in market indexes. Let’s take a deeper dive to see what history has to show. Looking at cycles in the stock market, investors tend to look at drivers of stock prices including the state of the economy, corporate profits, and global markets. In reviewing historical data from 1928 to 2014, average returns were 9% the first and second years after each presidential election. The third year was 18%. Why such an uptick? Generally, there is a bit of uncertainty in a newly elected candidate and how they will direct the country. Once the tone is set and policies have begun to take effect or there’s an understanding of how they will play a role, investors tend to gain comfort about the future. Of course, there have been extreme down years as well as major up years with unprecedented gains for the investor. These moments in history were associated with unpredicted macroeconomic events such as the Great Depression, the oil price shock where energy quadrupled in a few months, and the financial crisis several years ago. All of these were unpredicted times in history that were bigger than any election news. Some voters believe that a Republican in office will be better for the market as they are usually more business friendly than Democrats. However, since 1900, Democrats have been slightly better for stocks, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up approximately 9% annually with a Democrat in office compared to almost 6% per year when the United States President was a Republican. With this in mind, there are variations in annual stock market returns that diminish these differences, and many investment strategists conclude that a focus on who or which party wins the presidential election is needless from an investment perspective. If you are thinking of cashing in on an election year rally, or selling off before an election year, I would think again. According to history, attempting to time the market does not benefit the investor. Instead, work with your financial advisor to plan an appropriate long term allocation for your assets that meets your wishes and needs.

The “Best of the Best” Young Stars Shine in 7th annual Aventura Mall YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE presented by Mount Sinai Medical Center chamber news

By Beverly Perkins

or the seventh consecutive year, the Aventura Marketing Council (AMC) / World-Class Chamber of Commerce will produce a showcase of amazing young singers from throughout South Florida on Sunday, November 6th at 5:00 pm at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. In 2010, the opening year of the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, the AMC was looking to bring a program to the magnificent theater to commemorate the momentous occasion. AMC President Elaine Adler happened to see a young boy singing with his vocal group in a local shopping center. She had seen the group before, and always nodded in appreciation and continued walking. But this time was different, she heard a young boy singing, and stopped to watch him as he mesmerized the crowd with his exceptional voice. The young boy was 12-years-old at the time, and his name was Nick Merico. That chance encounter became the starting point for the YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE (YSS). Fast forward and Nick Merico has since gone on to become a teen idol, and the showcase has been a successful platform for other youngsters to share their talent and to be discovered. YSS Creative Director Ran Oz, CooLAM Productions, is bringing back the “best of the best” from the previous six years in the 2016 production. Merico and others will return to the stage that got them noticed to celebrate the YOUNG STAR SHOWCASE’S 7th year. Major sponsors include the Aventura Mall, AT&T, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Fidelity Investments, CooLAM Productions, Aventura News, Essential Media, Boardroom Communications, Circo Massimo Entertainment, Our City Aventura and Barker Animation Art Galleries. Proceeds from each year’s program benefit the AMC Education Foundation which works with the Aventura Marketing Council’s ten Dade Partner schools. The 2016 YOUNG STARS are:

Since middle school, Lily has been performing with the Future Stars Competition, and you may remember her from Season 9 of “America’s Got Talent”.

EMILY KAUFMAN, 12

Many may have seen Emily open a Miami Marlins game with the national anthem, or perform in musical theatre productions throughout South Florida, or perhaps alongside Phil Collins. In the 2015 YSS, Emily brought the audience to tears with her emotional rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings”

Where the Stories Are the Stars

Recapture Your Youth

S

elf-esteem is not a struggle that disappears with age. To be a maturing woman or mother means sacrificing personal time for loved ones. This may mean throwing on any old outfit in order to quickly face her daily duties. For recent mothers, this may mean going through the day with the possibility of having her baby’s spit-up on her shirt. Basically this means putting personal appearance on the back burner in order to take care of the family or workload. With the strong emphasis on appearance prevalent in the South Florida area, it may be hard to keep up with the pressure of society. On every magazine beautiful celebrities with amazing bodies and a youthful appearance grace the cover, even though they may be well “over-the-hill.” Many women wonder how these celebrities continually look flawless, yet meanwhile the normal female juggles two full time jobs – one in the workplace and at one at home. Multiple pregnancies and age-related skin elasticity loss can cause a woman’s skin to droop, which makes for an older appearance. Luckily a combination of certain cosmetic procedures, normally termed a Mommy Makeover, can help put the lack of self-confidence these women face to rest. Rest assured, though, that these procedures are inclusive of any woman looking to recapture her youth. This makeover may include a combination of a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, body lift, or liposculpture. The tummy tuck will help tighten the skin and muscles that may have been stretched with pregnancies or weight gain. The breast augmentation or breast lift, meanwhile, aim to restore breast sagging that may have been brought on by breast feeding, weight loss, or the lasting effects of gravity. Finally, liposculpture aims to improve the womanly figure by enhancing the waist, thighs, or back. Depending on the individual, a board-certified plastic surgeon will advise on which combination will best fit her desires in order to regain her youthful appearance. Recovery time varies based upon what she elects to undergo, but should last no longer than two weeks. Most women will notice how much thinner, happier, and younger she acts and feels. Women after the makeover do attain a shapelier figure without looking too “surgicallooking.” Completing procedures like these will help her boost her confidence and put forth the best effort in addressing work and family matters. It is important to find a plastic surgeon equipped to address her interests and who also gives insight into what will most suit the patient’s needs. After finding a surgeon that fully understands the woman’s interests, she can proceed assured that she will soon be on her way to reclaiming her femininity and confidence!

T

raditionally, the Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest travel times of the year. The roads and streets will be packed, which increases the chances of possible traffic accidents. Many individuals think of this historic tradition as a wonderful time to celebrate and to render gratitude and thankfulness for all of their blessings. It is also worth noting that the Thanksgiving holiday has the reputation as a popular night to frequent bars, and other drinking establishments. In this regard, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD) will be focusing primarily on the use of seat belts. For, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that proper seat belt use reduces the risk of fatal injuries to front seat passengers by 45%, and the risk of moderate to serious injury by 50%. Moreover, not only will the NMBPD conduct high visibility enforcement gearing toward seat belt use, they will also be targeting aggressive, impaired, careless driving and speeding. Consequently, they will issue tickets to reckless and distracted drivers. To be sure, it is not about writing tickets; instead it is about saving lives during a time where heavy alcohol use may be a factor. During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the NMBPD urges all drivers and passengers in motor vehicles to heed warnings and also as a reminder, that failure to buckle up can turn the happiest of times into a tragic nightmare. ALWAYS REMEMBER: “CLICK IT or TICKET!” Additionally, at times, overlooked simple safety precautions can lead to serious consequences such as traffic fatalities. Therefore, it stands to reason that a Thanksgiving to do list is of paramount importance and should include safety tips such as seat belt use, distractions (i.e., texting and driving), and utilizing a designated driver, if necessary. When related to traffic fatalities, the NMBPD discovered and maintains that there is a direct correlation between driving while intoxicated and a lack of proper restraint use. Therefore, the NMBPD encourages motorists to take extra precautions since alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, and impair fine motor skills necessary to safely operate a motor vehicle. Motorists are reminded that when they are caught under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they will be arrested. For obvious reasons, anyone who is consuming alcohol should never operate a motor vehicle. Hence, if anyone notices a suspected drunk driver or witnesses reckless drivers, the NMBPD urges all individuals to call (305) 949-5500 and report that activity. THIS IS A TRUE EMERGENCY WHERE YOU ARE SAVING A LIFE. Whether an individual is driving across the country or just across town, the use of safety belts and the lack of consuming alcohol and/or drugs while driving will help ensure that a holiday tragedy can be avoided. The NMBPD wishes everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. To learn more about the City of North Miami Beach Police Department, please visit www.citynmb.com. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1 and all other non-emergencies, please call (305) NMB-POLICE or (305) 662-7654.

pet of the month

Message from the Police Chief

Give Thanks… Buckle Up and Please Don’t Drink and Drive

“Lewis”

Lewis is a 13-year-old Golden Doodle. His favorite person is his human dad who he likes playing fetch with. His favorite toy is a squeaky beer can and his favorite thing to do is play rough and tough like a puppy. Although he’s no longer a pup, he dislikes anything unfamiliar making him a bit of a scaredy-cat. The astute canine was last seen spitting out a pill which was carefully concealed in a clump of peanut butter wrapped in ham and cheese.

stop smoking now!

Or have you ever tried affirmations - personal declarations - and no matter how many times you affirm something to yourself, it does not seem to become your reality? “I am confident, healthy and strong.” And the inner voice whispers (or sometimes shouts), “NO, YOU ARE NOT!”

EasyQuit Program onE Powerful session:

• Reprogram your mind hypnotically - new identity of non-smoker • Virtually no withdrawal symptoms • Subconcious CleanUp Procedure - no replacement habits (eg. excessive snacking)

This is the voice of an INNER CRITIC. This is also a sign of self-sabotage or what is known as CONSCIOUS/ SUBCONSCIOUS CONFLICT. Hypnotherapy is one of the fastest ways to resolve this conflict. And convert the inner critic into an INSPIRING INNER COACH.

Once your subconscious is in rapport with your conscious mind, you experience a state of flow. This is what athletes call to be IN THE ZONE.

Let go of fears. Raise your self-esteem. Become confident and loving. Let go of the past.
