Live your best life now. Let us help you combat depression, anxiety and feeling miserable about most anything In his clinical practice, Dr. Donde helps guide individual and couples toward living more rationally using REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy). As the stoic philosopher Epictetus said: “People are disturbed not by things, but by the views they take of them.” We largely create our own feelings through the beliefs and views we take of events that occur in our lives. For example, consider how differently people around us may respond to a tragic event despite observing similar physical stimuli. In the days and weeks following the event,

individuals will respond differently because of their beliefs and interpretations of the event. REBT serves to help clients learn to challenge irrational belief systems by identifying and disputing the faulty beliefs that cause and maintain our disturbances. To this end, REBT is as much a philosophical endeavor as it is a psychological intervention. Dr. Donde is honored to assist clients on the journey to living a more rational existence by taking control of their feelings through REBT.

A Taste of Equality Was a Taste of Success COMMUNITY NEWS

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

M

ore than 250 locals and members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community gathered at Hallandale Beach’s renowned Gulfstream Park a few months ago to support Equality Florida and #ForThe49 Equality Forward Initiative. The event raised more than $10,000 through ticket sales and raffle prizes, and 100 percent of the proceeds were donated to Equality Florida and #ForThe49. The lavish open-air entertainment complex was the perfect place for guests to sip and savor a variety of food and wine samples from more than a dozen participating sponsors while supporting the cause that dedicates itself to securing full equality for the LGBT community. The dining and retail center had generous donations and support from its tenants. Restaurants and retailers included III Forks, Adena Grill & Wine Bar, Brio Tuscan Grille, Cantina Laredo, Frankey’s Sports Bar, Häagen Dazs, Il Gusto Ristorante Italiano, La Pizzeria by Strike 10, Le Macaron, Mijana Lebanese Cuisine, ROK:BRGR Burger Bar + Gastropub, Sirona Fine Art, Williams-Sonoma and Yard House. Guests also enjoyed a lively belly-dancing show at Mijana and an after-party at Strike 10 Bowling and Lounge, complete with music, drinks, raffle prizes and a slow motion photo booth. Raffle prizes included gift baskets donated from Crate & Barrel,

The Container Store, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Williams-Sonoma and Z Gallerie. During the event, Row Iliescu, South Florida Development Director and Cindy Brown, MiamiDade Development Officer for Equality Florida thanked guests for attending and explained the importance of having an event like this. The event served as an opportunity to raise awareness and educate attendees about Equality Florida’s efforts to bring about LGBT equality in Florida and honor those affected by the massacre at Pulse Nightclub. Through #ForThe49 Equality Forward Initiative, Equality Florida hopes to ensure that the lasting memorial to this tragedy is real and brings meaningful change. The initiative will work to rid our culture of the toxic dehumanization of LGBTQ people and instead, build a country that welcomes, protects and embraces diversity. Inspired by the work of Equality Florida in the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, GoFundMe announced they will match up to $100,000 in contributions to the new Equality Florida campaign. Those who could not attend the event, but wish to support the charity can still make a contribution online via GoFundMe at: www.gofundme.com/ forthe49.

Is There a Doctor on My Phone - Memorial Healthcare Launches New App BY BEVERLY PERKINS

T

he weather in South Florida is feeling just perfect right now, but some local residents may be feeling under the weather. If so, Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) launched its first direct-to-consumer product to help those feel better fast and get back to enjoying the Florida sunshine. MemorialDocNow is a free app for consumers to install on their phones and/or tablets. The application allows individuals to be diagnosed online for non-emergency cases at any time without needing to make an appointment or travel for an in-person examination. This advancement allows Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) to utilize technology to broaden access for consumers searching for convenient healthcare options. The ability to connect 24/7 with a doctor and get a diagnosis online for a nonemergency case is faster than waiting in the emergency room while still receiving the same level of care. In some cases, the $49 fee to connect with MemorialDocNow may be even more affordable than a co-pay for ER or Urgent Care visits. “We are providing consumers a direct connection to doctors and the ability to access immediate care by taking advantage of today’s technologies,” said William Manzie, administrative director of Telehealth Strategy for Memorial Healthcare System. “MemorialDocNow, and many of the other initiatives we will offer in the future through our Telehealth program, provides easy to use applications for

10

DECEMBER 2016  |  OUR CITY HOLLYWOOD

consumers, and more importantly, access to care anytime, anywhere.” To make this service possible, Memorial Healthcare System teamed up with American Well, a national telehealth technology and services company. American Well’s telepath platform enables Memorial doctors and patients to connect for immediate, live video visits over mobile and web. Telehealth interest and use is on the rise. According to a 2015 consumer survey conducted on behalf of American Well, 64 percent of consumers would see a doctor over video. “Through our collaboration with Memorial Healthcare System, we are enabling doctors to use telehealth with their patients to deliver care anywhere that patient may be. This means Memorial doctors can now provide remote care that spans the entire care continuum, making it more affordable, accessible and connected than ever before,” said Danielle Russella, President, Client Solutions, American Well. Consumers and patients who want to use MemorialDocNow may download the mobile application onto their smartphone or tablet. It is available, at no cost for Apple and Android devices. The service is also available through the website, www.MemorialDocNow.com, where consumers can create a profile and sign in for a consultation, similar to the mobile application.

South Florida’s Russian Community Reached a Milestone Moment SECTION HEAD COMMUNITY NEWS

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

S

outh Florida’s Russian speaking community achieved a milestone moment a few months ago when nearly twenty local government leaders gathered to establish relationships with the continually growing Russian American community. The historic event took place at the Adena Grill & Wine Bar in the Village at Gulfstream Park. The Hallandale restaurant hosted the evening along with Kendall Coffey from Coffey Burlington. The unprecedented event was a platform to bridge ties between Russian speaking business owners and dignitaries in the community. The Russian speaking business professionals welcomed the opportunity to connect with local government leaders and discussed key topics to better understand what their community can look forward to in the upcoming year. Distinguished guests included public officials who were currently in office as well as those running in the recent election on the city, county and state levels. These government leaders who attended the special reception and embraced the Russian American community came from Aventura, Bal Harbour, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Miami Shores Village, North Miami, North

Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, Parkland and other Miami-Dade areas. “This event was another great example of how Russian American Chamber continues bringing people together for the purpose of bringing unity to the Russian community, bridging ties between Russian and American businesses and creating an entrepreneurial environment where companies grow, individuals succeed and the community benefits,” stated Alla K. Rios, Director of Operations for the Russian American Chamber of South Florida. “The warm reception received from so many government leaders marked an incredible milestone for the Russian American community in Florida.” The Chamber was also thankful for the support of their sponsors: Lexus of Pembroke Pines, A&D Mortgage, Law Offices of Steven S. Farbman, Lauderdale BMW, Sunshine State Academy, Florida. Russian Magazine, Lexus of North Miami and Coffey Burlington. To join Russian American Chamber, please visit www. racsouthflorida.com for details, email info@racsouthflorida. com or call 954-292-1397.

Art and Culture Center’s Teens are Model Canine Citizens BY BEVERLY PERKINS

A

mongst the many programs available at The Art and Culture Center / Hollywood, the Teen Ambassador program is one making a positive impact in the community. Over the past five years, teens, ages 14-18, have had the opportunity to participate in intensive workshops, attend off-site field trips and outreach events while simultaneously learning leadership and individual and team building skills that prepare them for success in their studies and their future careers. As an expansion of the program, the teens will put their newly mastered skills to use in the community with non-profit organizations. This year, the ambitious and compassionate group decided to work with Dachshund Rescue South Florida (DRSF). The 100% volunteer run and 100% donation funded organization welcomed the teens’ support. A couple of months ago, Vice President of Dachshund Rescue South Florida, Joanna Ribner, visited the Art and Culture Center and spoke about the organization, the rescue dogs, and the importance of responsible animal ownership, as well as fostering and adoption opportunities. The Teen Arts Ambassadors were able to meet and play with four Doxies that have been successfully impacted by the organization, while hearing the stories behind how they found their way to the rescue. Afterwards, the ambassadors

12

used their artistic skills to make soft blankets and toys to donate to the rescue dogs. Susan Rakes, the Assistant Director of the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood, oversees the Teen Arts Ambassadors program and had recently fostered a puppy from DRSF. “The puppy I fostered arrived with a beautiful hand-made blanket, much like the ones our Teens were making, and a bed. She just needed love and care from me until she was ready to be adopted,” said Rakes. “The blankets provide a sense of security and comfort for the dogs. This project is a great way for our teens to learn about an animal rescue group in the community and to also use their abilities to give back and make an impact in a creative way.” The Teen Arts Ambassadors meet twice a month on select Monday evenings. They will continue to work with Dachshund Rescue South Florida this year and will participate in many other leadership building activities and events. For more information on the Teen Arts Ambassador program or to enroll a teen, please visit artandculturecenter.org/ambassadors or call 954-921-3274. It’s No Sea-cret, Sea Levels are Rising! COMMUNITY NEWS

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

A

couple months ago South Florida expected their highest tides of the year. Sea Level Rise (SLR) is a serious issue in Southeast Florida and will have a significant impact on homes, communities and businesses in the near future. Numerous local governments and universities are putting forth efforts to prepare a plan for the impact of the rising seas. In addition, there is work by non-profit, faith and informal groups also addressing the problem. One organization supporting the issue is Sea Level Rise Solutions Project of South Florida. Their mission is to serve as a clearinghouse and community leader on the Sea Level Rise Issue in order to support the work of government, businesses, and other groups in Southeast Florida to mitigate climate cwhange and make our communities more resilient to Sea Level Rise. Despite all the efforts and national media spotlights, the public in Southeast Florida may not perceive the threat of SLR to be immediate. They may also not be aware of actions they can currently take to assist in regional efforts to build resilience, and to democratize flood risk management. Recently, the Sea Level Rise Solutions Project of South Florida partnered with Temple Solel of Hollywood to host a “King Tide Flooding Event”. The event coincided with the anticipated highest tides of the year dates, October 15-18th. Participants were asked to tour areas in East Hollywood that were expected to be flooded and photograph flooding for entry into FIU’s Eye on the Rise database. An Instagram photo contest of flooding in South

Florida also provided opportunity for the younger generations to get involved as they had to “Capture the King Tide”. The documentation will assist in providing what may be a common occurrence due to Sea Level Rise. South Plantation High School assisted by using a Drone to videotape the affected areas. The event concluded with a documentary showing of “Ahead of the Flood” at Nova Southeastern University. Raising public awareness of sea level rise is the main goal of the project. In addition to this event, the group plans on hosting presentations from scientists, government officials, business and religious leaders and others to continually educate the public about the threat of SLR from their perspective and how they want to Photos: Dylan Bober, Joanna Berens and Scott Lewis address the issue. They will also teach the public how to stay safe during climate change. For more information on how to become Furthermore, they will also connect with other area involved in the Sea Level Rise Solutions groups and organizations with similar goals regarding Project of South Florida, please contact climate change on South Florida, participate in social Scott Lewis at 954-801-7170 or email action projects, and create social media pages where Scotlewg@gmail.com. the public is invited to share their events and findings.

Shhh… Hollywood’s Hidden Gems Revealed BY BEVERLY PERKINS

T

ucked away between Federal Highway and the FEC railroad tracks at 21st Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard and Sheridan Street is one of Hollywood’s oldest neighborhoods - Royal Poinciana. Royal Poinciana is usually overshadowed by higher profile areas such as the Historic Lakes District and Historic Downtown. However, those that venture into the neighborhood are as surprised as surveyors Jean Morford and Mary Beth Busutil were when they stumbled across the number of architectural gems back in the 1980s. Over two decades ago, these historians were in the process of updating a survey of historic buildings as well as a guidebook of Hollywood. The adventurous duo drove and walked every street photographing and compiling as much information as they could about the historic properties. They discovered many architectural styles that are as recent as the 1980s

and as far back as the early 1920s. These styles include: Vernacular, Mission, Spanish Eclectic, Pueblo, Bungalow, Hollywood MiMo (Miami Modern Architecture) and many others. They became so excited of their findings and began giving homes their own endearing names such as “Sweet House” and “Hollywood Bungalow”. The community also boasts at least one home designed by distinguished local architect, Bayard Lukens. He’s best known for building and designing the infamous Hammerstein House. They also found iconic neon signs and tropical motifs characteristic of South Florida in the past. Recently an opportunity arose when the Hollywood Historic Society announced a lecture series. Morford and Busutil were immediately asked to make a presentation which they did a couple of months ago. The Hollywood activists shared a slide show presentation and gave a brief history on all the gems they discovered with other Hollywood residents and enthusiasts. “Our work in this area was eye opening and very gratifying. We recommend that those interested in gems such as the ones we found check out this area before it begins to change,” says Busutil. “The Regional Activity Center that it lies within is likely to generate development pressure along Federal Highway and within this community. Royal Poinciana—it’s worth a second look.” The next Hollywood Historic Lecture Series is on Saturday, December 3rd from 1:00-3:00pm at the Hollywood Branch Library in the multi-purpose room. The topic is “U.S. Navy WAVES in Hollywood during WWII”. The library is located at 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, City Hall Circle. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. Refreshments also will be served. For more information, call Hollywood Historical Society at 954-923-5590.

Start Spreading the News! The South Broward High School Band is Traveling to New York City! SCHOOL NEWS

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

T

he South Broward High School (SBHS) Symphonic Band was selected to perform at Carnegie Hall. Playing at the most famous concert hall in New York City is the ultimate achievement for these students. Under the direction of Michael D. Scott, the SBHS band has grown in number, improved in skill, and achieved numerous awards and recognition since his arrival in 2013. The Wind Symphony Band has already achieved a superior level of recognition for their hard work and dedication, but being able to play in one of the country’s most prestigious musical settings is quite the prize. In an effort to provide this opportunity and experience for the talented students, they need the community’s assistance. Fifty-eight students and ten chaperones will be traveling next spring, April 12-17th, 2017, at a cost of $102,000. The cost reflects roundtrip transportation, buses while in the city, hotel stay, transportation and shipping of instruments, a Broadway show, and all meals during the 5 day trip. The end result of the elaborate expense is the opportunity of a lifetime to play at Carnegie Hall. The students have been and will continue working hard to raise funds throughout the year with fundraisers such as cheesecake, candles and popcorn sales. They already

received a $20,000 grant from the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). This is one of the world’s largest arts education organizations, but the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Lastly, the administrative team at South Broward High School has also been working hand in hand with the South Broward High School Band Patrons Association, Inc. and the members of the NYC/Carnegie Hall Trip Committee, to put the trip into motion. Each parent is expected to pay for their child to participate ($1,800.00 per child); however, due to the diverse economic background of the students at the school, many parents will need assistance in doing so. For this reason, they are counting on the generosity of the outstanding community members to assist in making this opportunity a reality. For those who would like to make a donation, please visit the website at www.themarchingbulldogs.com or send checks payable to South Broward High School ATTN: Ashley Lehman, 1901 N. Federal Hwy., Hollywood, FL 33020. For more information on how to help, please contact Ashley Lehman at Ashley.Lehman@browardschools.com.

McArthur High School Brings Out the Best Students with Best Buddies Program BY BEVERLY PERKINS

M

cArthur High School students participate in a variety of after school activities and clubs each year such as DECA, JROTC, Color Guard and Band, Yearbook, Debate and of course, all traditional sports such as football, basketball, baseball and swim. However, new this year is Best Buddies, a unique club for those wanting to help and make a difference in others’ lives. Last spring, Tonaye Smith, an eleventh grader, was interested in finding out how to bring this organization to the school for the 2016-2017 academic year. After tons of paperwork and a thorough interview process Smith, now a senior, was successful in her quest and the club was approved and finalized before summer began.

18

DECEMBER 2016  |  OUR CITY HOLLYWOOD

Smith currently serves as President at McArthur for this exceptional program representing the 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Best Buddies International is America’s first national, unified, social, and recreational program for people with intellectual disabilities. Since 1989, they have established a global volunteer movement creating opportunities for one-on-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies is currently the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of millions of people with IDD. Best Buddies helps the individuals in the community form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, but most importantly feel valued by society. Individuals in the IDD community that Best Buddies serves includes, but is not limited to, Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and many other undiagnosed disabilities. Smith’s goals for her chapter at McArthur High this year are to practice inclusion to the best of their ability and to become examples for other students not in the club. In order to do so she plans on hosting holiday parties, participating in spirit days, coordinating lunch time games, having fundraisers on and off campus, attending Special Olympics, and much more. “The high school experience is one that you remember for the rest of your life and everyone should be a part of that,” says Smith. “These friendships have proven to extremely impact different individuals across the globe, and I am more than happy to impact lives at McArthur High School.”

A New Formula: Together Time & Play Time + Imagination & Screen Time = Well-Rounded Child

C

hildren in the 21st century access thousands of years of knowledge in an instant. Terabytes upon terabytes of coded 1s & 0s exist, waiting for someone to open the box, a potential Pandora’s Box… Parenting has long been the most challenging job on the planet, and today’s access to technology makes the job even harder. How can we help our children maintain time-tested virtues of play in the modern world? As a parent and educator, and creator and consumer of new technology, here are three tools I use to navigate in this ever-changing landscape:

Children need boundaries AND to be involved with the world around them. Setting a maximum amount of screen-time per day (even per week) is vital. Keep weekdays free of screen-time (unless needed for homework). Maintain family time (meals, reading time before bed) and play time rooted in the physical world. Where technology can add value, bring it in! While on a walk, your child discovers an insect and asks a question. The answer: “I’m not sure, let’s learn about it.” Or, while playing with blocks, your child says, “How are skyscrapers built - I want to make one!” Parent response: “Let’s see how we can do it at home with the materials we have…” Imaginative play develops critical thinking, vocabulary and decisionmaking skills.

Collaborative engagement or, in other words, “together time”

Spending time with your children helps to raise well-rounded, well-adjusted adults. Technology adds another variable to the equation, though. Guiding children to use technology appropriately and keeping computers in common areas encourage opportunities for discovery and engagement. “Mommy, what does ‘innovation’ mean?” “That’s an excellent question. There’s the computer. Go look it up, and let’s talk about it.” This concept of collaborative engagement is fundamental to the idea of learning the HOW of using technology in ways that align with your family’s values.

Unstructured play-time

Allowing children time to become “bored” and discover their own ways of becoming “unbored” is a skill. Author Tony Wagner discusses the value of unstructured play time (children imagine, explore and discover) in his book Creating Innovators. Being tech-savvy doesn’t mean knowing HOW to use technology. It means knowing WHEN to use it and learning how to use it. Kids who have unstructured playtime - with anything that requires them to imagine and discover - see technology for what it is: a tool to create what the human mind and ONLY the human mind can dream. From early childhood through Grade 12, Scheck Hillel Community School educates and inspires students to become exemplary global citizens with enduring Jewish identity and values through an individualized college preparatory curriculum highlighted by STEM and design, Capstone, college dual enrollment, arts, athletics and service learning. Its 14 acres include a new 115,000-sq.ft athletic complex with additional academic expansion plans. Scheck Hillel is one of the world’s largest Jewish community day schools and a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. For information, please visit eHillel.org.

“Lulu”

ASK THE EXPERT

BY CHARLES A. MESSA, III, M.D., F.A.C.S.

T

he eyes are the first thing we notice when we meet someone. Beautiful eyes can make up for other features that are less than ideal. Likewise, eyes that are tired, droopy, or puffy may not reflect a vibrant inner self. It is often said that the earliest signs of aging are around the eyes. Perhaps people are always questioning whether or not you had a good night’s sleep, because your eyes are swollen with bags. Fortunately, at the Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center, we can give you dramatically younger looking eyes through “eyelid lifts,” also known as blepharoplasty. A primary reason for droopy eyes is simply due to age. It can also be hereditary. As everything droops, so do the eyebrows. As the outer part of the eyebrows droop, the skin of the upper eyelids will look saggy, as if you had developed extra skin that was not there several years before. Removing this “extra” skin can drastically improve that droopy look. Another reason for “tired eyes” is because of droopy or migrating eyelid fat. This fat is held back by a thin wall of fibrous tissue called the orbital septum, which weakens over time. The fat, held firmly back by this wall in youth, can bulge with age, giving you “baggy” upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes this extra fat and tightens the wall, restoring a youthful contour. For those patients with puffiness under the eyes or baggy upper and lower eyelids, laser eyelid surgery can reduce and often eliminate these problems. The end results are a more alert and youthful look around the eyes. The prominent fat pockets can be removed from a hidden incision along the inside surface of the eyelid. This “no stitch”, no external scar technique is utilized when patients have fat prominence of “eyelid bags” alone without excess or sagging eyelid skin. If minimal excess skin is present, a skin pinch technique is combined with transconjunctival fat removal. In this case, a “pinch” of lower eyelid skin is removed. These techniques typically result in less swelling, less discomfort, and shorter recovery time. I will assess which technique is ideal for your eyes during your personal consultation. Recovery from eyelid surgery usually takes seven to ten days. Sunglasses allow you to go out in public immediately after surgery, and make-up can be worn within about one week. Normal activity can be resumed within a few days, and exercise can be resumed within 14 days after surgery. If the eyes looking back at you in the mirror are not reflecting how you are feeling, it might be time to consider a blepharoplasty. Dr. Messa is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, an active member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a recognized expert in cosmetic plastic surgery and has achieved Allergan’s Black Diamond Award as one of the top 1% of plastic surgery practices in the country by volume. PET OF THE MONTH

Do Your Eyes Make You Look Tired

Lulu is a 9 year old Tabby. She was adopted in 2008 from the Humane Society where she met her favorite person, her human mommy, Dolores. This feline loves her pink cow and sparkly ball toys. She also enjoys having her back brushed. However, she may be one of the few kitties that dislikes fish. Her favorite thing to do is look at the intracoastal from her window seat. She was last seen bird watching on the balcony of her Hollywood Beach condominium.

Your Pet Could Be Our Pet of the Month! Every month Our City Hollywood randomly picks a pet of the month winner. Enter your pet today! Email entries to editorhollywood@ourcitymedia.com. S

check Hillel Community School, one of the world’s largest Jewish community day schools, has been serving the North Miami community for over 4 decades. The enrollment of 1,086 students from 18 months - grade 12 representing 20 countries make up the demographic diversity at the school. Since it opened its doors in 1970, students from the early childhood program through high school receive not just the best education, but inspiration to become exemplary global citizens with enduring Jewish identity and values.

The National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence sits on 14 acres and includes a new 115,000 square foot athletic complex with additional academic expansion plans. Dr. Ezra Levy, Head of School at Scheck Hillel Community School, took the time to share a bit more information about his award-winning campus.

Please tell us about your education philosophy and how it differentiates from other schools. Scheck Hillel tailors education for a personal-

ized, rigorous college preparatory experience. Students develop identity, nurture talent, discover passion and find purpose as our rising generation of creators, innovators and leaders. We modernize the question of ‘What do I want to be when I grow up?’ to “Who do I want to be?” empowering students to become reflective global citizens with enduring identity and values.

What special programs and courses does the school offer? At this

time, we offer 20 AP and college-level courses. In addition to individualized college counseling for grades 8-12, we have a College Readiness Program, Florida International University Dual Enrollment, Capstone Senior Seminar, iLab and STEM curriculum for all ages, coding in Lower School grades, and much more.

What other accomplishments are you most proud of? Our students

and faculty have made significant achievements and have received a variety of prestigious awards, starting with our National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence title. Last year, 8 seniors were recognized by the National Merit Scholars & National Hispanic Recognition programs, the Class of 2016 received 200+ college acceptances, our Middle School won the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology Day School STEM Challenge, 100+ students qualified for national arts honor societies and participated in our after-school arts program, and our men’s soccer team won the State Soccer Championship. Even more meaningful, 30,000+ hours of community service are conducted by our students every year. Our community is strong. So many of our parents and faculty and staff members have come back home as alumni. Most of all, I am proud of how our students, parents and faculty come together to forge the kind of nurturing family-school partnership that builds Jewish future through our children’s success. We really are more than your child’s school; we are your family’s community.
