Spring into Summer
T
he days are getting longer and the tropical South Florida heat is with us again. The sun is burning down on us and the air conditioners are humming at full blast. The school year is coming to an end. While we are trying to decide between the pool or beach, our kids are already looking forward to their summer break. In a hurry, we are making last minute arrangements for summer camps and family vacations. Summer is in the air! This May issue of the Our City Magazines features our annual Summer Camp Guide, which showcases the multitude of local summer camps and kids activities offered in your community. For additional camps and activities, please visit our comprehensive online South Broward Summer Camp Guide at www.OurCityMedia.com. In the midst of all this, spring is passing by and Mother’s Day has sneaked up on us. Let’s all take a little pause, reflect on what is important, and honor our mothers (and often our wives), for they are working hard and without pause to care for us, look after us, and pamper us. It’s time to truly pamper and spoil them for a change. Have a fantastic Mother’s Day celebration!

Body contouring: Show off the new you. Have you lost a significant amount of weight but are still dealing with loose skin? A series of plastic surgeries called body contouring S. Alexander Earle, MD can help trim excess skin from several places on your body.
Dr. Earle discusses different areas of the body where body contouring may help.
Sometimes people believe removing extra skin after bariatric surgery or significant weight loss is a purely cosmetic procedure. But in many cases it also has a practical health purpose.
• Chest: Men and women may require breast surgery to remove extra skin from the chest. “For women, the procedure is similar to a breast lift. This may be combined with implants, if needed. For men, the plastic surgeon performs a male breast reduction procedure,” explains Dr. Earle, who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
“Body contouring can be done after weight loss to prevent rashes, discomfort and chafing,” says S. Alexander Earle, MD, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
• Abdomen: Extra skin can be removed and muscles tightened with abdominoplasty. This makes the entire stomach area look better and tighter. • Thighs: A plastic surgeon can remove extra skin on thighs – depending on how heavy the thigh still is and the anatomic location of the skin.
• Upper arms: Patients often complain of deflated arms that resemble batwings.
Let us direct you to the best care. Access. Anytime. Anywhere.
Removing excess skin from the armpit to the elbow gives the upper arms their shape back. • Face: Stretched out skin along the neck and jawline can be removed to reveal a more healthy and youthful appearance. Body contouring is an efficient way to get rid of excess skin after your weight loss. “It can help eliminate imperfections and loose skin that diet and exercise can’t,” says Dr. Earle. Note: Not all procedures are covered by insurance. This depends on the location of the excess skin, your symptoms, and your insurance coverage.

here are currently over 345,064 year-round Broward seniors. Every year in May, the nation celebrates Older Americans Month to recognize older Americans for their contributions and provide them with information to help them stay healthy and active. On May 24 and 25, they will have access to a variety of resources at the 35th Annual Broward Aging Network Conference (BANC), which will be held at the Southwest Focal Point Community Center, 301 NW 103 Avenue. On both days, registration and exhibits will be held from 8am9am and sessions will be held from 9am-2:30pm. “It is a great place to find out about resources in Broward County,” said 70-year-old Norma Wilson, who has attended for the past four years. “Each year, I discover something new and beneficial. It is also a chance to meet some new people and share information.” The conference is presented by the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Broward County. This year’s theme is “Blaze a Trail.” A crowd of close to 400 seniors, professionals and community advocates is expected to attend. There will be free health screenings, health information, educational presentations, lunch and raffles. Expert speakers will provide essential information to help seniors
remain independent. There will also be a new Case Management Development Track that includes training from the Department of Elder Affairs’ List of Mandatory Training Standards on May 24 at no additional charge. The cost for seniors, 60 and over, and students is $25/both days or $15/one day. The cost for professionals and community advocates is $60/both days and $35/one day. Organizers are still seeing potential sponsors, exhibitors, and other people interested in participating at this educational experience. ADRC is a nonprofit organization serving Broward County’s senior residents, age 60 or older. It is administered by the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc. ADRC plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs; funds services; and is the prime advocate for residents of Broward County, 60 years of age or older. It is a one-stop source of information regarding services in Broward County for seniors and persons with severe and persistent mental illness, ages 18 and over, as well as their families and caregivers. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend. “Celebrate Israel will be very family-oriented, with great activities for the kids and wonderful options to generate camaraderie and togetherness between and within families,” said Amir Hayun, event chair. “All aspects will emphasize education and culture.” Hosted by the Israeli American Council (IAC), Celebrate Israel provides the look and feel of Israel with arts, culture and innovation all rolled into one day. The event will be replicated in many cities across the country throughout the month of May to provide a national day of celebration. “We are delighted to bring the spirit of Israel to South Florida,” said Nir Lerman, program director for IAC Florida. At the Western Wall replica, visitors can insert messages that will be brought to the real Western Wall. They can stroll through
the Mahane Yehuda Market, which mimics the dynamic outdoor marketplace in Jerusalem, or sit on a mini beach with the landscape of Tel Aviv in the background. They can also enjoy the Kosher food court that features popular Israeli street foods, such as hummus, salads, falafel and barbeque. There will be popular Israeli activities for the whole family, including backgammon contest, Israeli-style Karaoke and Israeli folk-dancing. The festival will also have bungee-jumping, a climbing wall and inflatable slides. The Israeli rock band Mashina will be the headline performer starting at 5pm. Adults can stop by the Israeli coffee shop and browse Judaica and Israeli jewelry and crafts. There will also be raffles and prizes that include a two-year lease on fully-loaded Lexus IS and a grand prize—a free ticket to Israel. C.B. Smith Park is located at 900 North Flamingo Road. Tickets cost $10 online and $15 at the door. For information, visit www.celebrateisraelfestival.com/Florida/en/. 2015 Celebrate Israel in Pembroke Pines

Sundaes with the Bunny Was a Success Community News
By Debby Teich
K
ids had an opportunity to indulge in one of their favorite foods at Sundaes with the Bunny, held at the SWFP Community Center. The annual event was a hopping success! “Mr. Bunny was very happy to be with the children of Pembroke Pines,” said organizer Francie Novo, Special Events Coordinator for Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. “This year they also had a chance to meet Vice Mayor Iris Siple and Commissioner Jay Schwartz.” The children enjoyed making their own sundaes with help
from volunteers. They received an “egg-ceptionally” big scoop of ice cream and got to choose from a selection of toppings that included Oreos, gummy bears, jelly beans, whipped cream, chocolate chips, Whoppers Robin Eggs and much more. They also enjoyed games and dancing organized by Superstar Productions, which included a hop scotch relay, putt putt golf, Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Cha Cha Slide and more. Pembroke Pines Residents Hunt for Eggs By Debby Teich
K
ids had many “egg-citing” ways to celebrate the arrival of spring. SilverLakes held its 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Kids searched for hidden eggs and won some prizes. The City of Pembroke Pines hosted two egg hunts. Over 5,000 children searched for 52,000 plastic eggs hidden at Pines Recreation Center and Pembroke Shores Park. The eggs contained candy and small toys, as well as some tickets to trade for larger prizes. The event featured games, a bounce house, face painting, visits with the bunny, food trucks, bunny ears and more. “Our annual Egg Hunts are enjoyable for the children participating and parents who recall the holiday egg hunts of their childhoods,” said Francie Novo, City of Pembroke Pines Special Events Coordinator. our students, in grades 6 through 12, have been participating in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) at the Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce (MPPRCC). They recently presented their business plans to a panel of local industry leaders and a public audience. All of them received the funding they needed to launch their own real, legal, fully-formed companies and social movements. Throughout the year, the students participated in over 20 weeks of preparation and training on how to build their own businesses. They completed a market study, created a full business plan, researched their product or service, and priced out the product and/or

During the YEA! Investor Panel Event (think Shark Tank meets The Apprentice meets American Idol), the students had five minutes to pitch their business plans. Based on the appeal and merit of their plans and presentations, representatives from companies like Pillbox Pharmacy, Comprehensive Business Systems, CV Marketing, the Falcon Foundation and You University determined the amount of funds to allocate to each business or social movement. The students and their businesses are as follows: ▸▸ Cyanne McClean, CEO - Africa Smiles ▸▸ Prajwal Chummar, CEO - Mage Theory ▸▸ Marc Dominique, CEO - The PieceMaker ▸▸ Nneka King, CEO - Planet Bags “The judges were very surprised at the depth of information the students brought to the investor panel,” said Robert Goltz, president/CEO of the MPPRCC. “Many said that most business people do not have as much information, market research and financials prepared before they go into business.” The participating investors also selected Cyanne McClean’s Africa Smiles for an additional prize. This group will advance to the Young Entrepreneurs Academy Saunders Scholars National College Scholarship competition, where they will compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholar-

She enjoys raising butterflies, creating Mandala art, writing, reading, traveling, and attending cultural events. She advises young people today to stay connected in a real way, not just through social media. She says the most memorable moment in her life was when she met the legendary John Lennon. She has volunteered for Pines Day, Relay For Life, Renaissance Festival and more. Mazurk is excited to be Lady Pines, because she feels that the City of Pembroke Pines is a great place to live and has so much to offer. She will represent the city at a variety of events throughout her reign. For information, call 954-450-6888 or visit www.ppines.com, click on Departments and select Community Services.
Seniors to Test Their Spelling Abilities By Debby Teich
O
nce again, the tension will be high during the 6th Annual Senior Spelling Bee, hosted by the City of Pembroke Pines Southwest Focal Point Community Center. The event will be held on May 10, from 12:30pm – 2pm, at the Community Center, 301 NW 103rd Avenue in Pembroke Pines. Cash prizes will be awarded to first place, second place and third place winners. The deadline to sign up is May 9. “Spelling Bees are not just for young students,” said Suzy Felix, Activities Coordinator for SWFPCC. “It’s a memory, multi-player game for seniors that helps to keep their minds young and healthy. They still love competition with their friends.” The brave seniors will sit quietly on the stage. When their names are called, they will proceed to the microphone to spell randomly selected words that would make a college English professor proud. The list will begin with level one words and increases in difficulty. Last year, some of the words included: coonskin, appertain, ayatollah, umbrage, ecocatastrophe, euphemism, and sternutation. Once the contestants misspell a word, they will be eliminated. Last year, Owen Cooke was declared the winner. Edward Riccardi won second place and Cordella Lewis won third place. On September 13, the SWFPCC will hold the 5th Annual Spanish Bee, from 12:30pm - 2pm. All of the words will be in Spanish.
2015 winners were: Owen Cooke (1st place), Edward Riccardi (2nd place) and Cordella Lewis (3rd place).

Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pines Is a Success SECTION HEAD Community News
By Debby Teich
O
ver 10,000 people enjoyed the two-day 18th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pines held at the Pembroke Pines River of Grass Art Park. The juried event was hosted by the City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and the Arts and Cultural Advisory Board. “Pedestrian traffic was busy, much to the satisfaction of our artists, who were also impressed by the hospitality extended to them by the City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and Arts and Culture Advisory Board,” said Holly Bonkowski, Division Director of Cultural Arts for Pembroke Pines. First place winners in the juried category received a Blue Ribbon and a $300 cash prize. They were: Larry Levine (Photography), George Moss (Drawing), Mick Fortney (Glass), Sheldon Sachnoff (Mixed Media), Sumaya Florez (Painting), John Antczak (Sculpture), and Nick Vidakovic (Wood). Blue Ribbon first place winners in the non-juried category were: Lai Price (Plants), Eddie Osbourne (Fine Handcrafts) and Lisa Davin (Jewelry). Dan and Sandy Kaufmann won “Best in Show”
and received a blue ribbon and a $500 cash prize. Carlos Fuenmayor’s original artwork, “Knightopus,” was used to promote this year’s Art Festival in all advertising. “The vibrant and unique nature of Carlos’ painting created quite a buzz prior to the Festival,” said Rose Colombo, Arts and Culture Advisory Board Chair for Pembroke Pines. “We sold many of the limited edition Knightopus posters at the Art Festival, which benefits art and culture in Pembroke Pines.” The 18th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pines is made possible due to the dedication of 2016 Art Festival judges (Holly Rodriguez, Steven Sylvester, Lisa Lake, Ron Hopkins), Pembroke Pines Arts and Culture Advisory Board members (Richard Coberly, Herman Freedman, Deborah Hartner, Earl Rodney) and Pembroke Pines Arts and Culture Advisory Board Officers (Chair Rose Colombo, Vice Chair Ruth T. Rosenberg, Secretary Sandi Marie L. Epstein.) For information, visit www.ppines.com or send an email to HBonkowski@ppines.com.

PPCHS Seniors Vote for the First Time
SECTION News School HEAD

T
he Florida primary for the 2016 presidential election was an opportunity for residents to vote for their favorite candidate. For many students in William Quigley’s and Carrie Hyacinth’s government classes at Pembroke Pines Charter High School, it was also the first time they entered a voting booth to cast an official ballot. Many of them said that they probably would not have voted if they did not participate in early voting on campus. “Our students have researched the presidential candidates as part of their government class and today they exercised their right to vote for the very first time,” said Quigley. “The timing of this election was a perfect conclusion for their course work. Our students have a better understanding of the role they now play in guiding our country into their future through the power of their single vote.” Prior to casting their votes on campus at the Southwest Regional library, they posed for a commemorative photo with Pembroke Pines City Officials Mayor Frank C. Ortis, Vice Mayor Iris Siple, Commissioners Angelo Castillo and Jay Schwartz and City Manager Charles Dodge, Seventh grade students in Diana Bivona’s Civics class at the Pembroke Pines

Charter Academic Village participated in a mock voting process and followed the high school students to the polls. After everyone voted, Principal Peter Bayer led the students to the school’s bell tower to participate in a long standing tradition of ringing the bell to acknowledge that something special had occurred on campus. “Our students ring the bell when they have been accepted to a college or inducted to the National Honor Society, among other events,” said Bayer. “Today they rang the bell to signify taking responsibility for their future by using their new power to vote.”

he City of Pembroke Pines Police Department recently honored 20 elementary students at Pembroke Pines Police Department Headquarters during its “Student of the Month” ceremony. The students were nominated by their respective teachers based on criteria set forth by the Pembroke Pines Police Department that included exemplary behavior, good citizenship, and being a good role model. The ceremony took place following the Pledge of Allegiance and remarks from Pembroke Pines Commissioner Carl Shechter, Police Chief Dan Giustino and Captain Chris Stasio. The students were commended for the special actions and behaviors that resulted in their nominations. Legally Speaking
Do you have a thoughtful and comprehensive estate plan which includes:
Starting the Planning Process: The Three Ps of Estate Planning BY BRUCE IDEN, ESQUIRE
M
ost clients who initiate estate planning do so to provide for their loved ones’ needs, and to avoid burdening their family after they are gone with probate and administration expense and delay. But, no matter your reason for initiating estate planning, it is imperative that you understand what your options are, and how thoughtful estate planning can work for you. Your plan may be simple (just a will), or more complex (a revocable living trust). Let’s examine the estate planning process by exploring the areas we refer to as the three Ps of estate planning. People Who are the important people in your life? Your important people likely include your loved ones: your spouse or partner, children and grandchildren, and perhaps your parents, siblings or other relatives. Beyond these people, your important “people” could also include charities, special causes, colleges or universities, and/or churches or temples to which you are connected. For some, important people might also include pets. Spend some time thinking about the impact others have had on your life. Make a list and jot notes. This is where the planning process begins. Property By property, we are referring to your assets in general. Make a list of the assets you own or control. At this point, you do not need to identify policy or account numbers, or exact dollar values, but rather think about your assets in terms of their nature (cash, stocks, bonds, businesses, real estate, etc.), their value, and your ownership interest. Do you own assets in your name only, in joint tenancy with someone else, or through some other arrangement? Be sure to include often overlooked assets such as life insurance (death benefit), money owed to you, and any inheritance you may expect to receive. Plans After identifying the important people in your life, and your property, the next step is to consider plans for those people (including yourself) and property in the event of your own incapacity or death. Whom would you select to make decisions if you could no longer do so yourself? Would the same person handle your finances and your personal and health care decisions? Who would care for your minor children? Who will run your business? How would you distribute your assets to your “people?” Would you like to minimize the impact of estate taxes? Maximize the impact of a charitable bequest? Is there a member of your family with special needs whom you would like to provide for? And, finally, is there someone who perhaps should not receive an outright inheritance, without third-party managed care and oversight? These are just a few of the issues to consider when approaching the planning process. An experienced estate planning attorney can help you explore all of these areas and work with you to develop a plan for your unique situation. Estate planning is a deliberate, premeditated act of love. Life can change in an instant. What are you waiting for? Bruce Iden earned his J.D. from George Washington University National Law Center and his L.L.M. in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law. He has been practicing in the area of estate planning and probate and trust administration for over 30 years. For more information, or to schedule a complimentary estate-planning consultation with Mr. Iden, please contact Iden Law Offices at (954)885-0085.

hy do some cases seem to settle so effortlessly and others seem to be a constant battle? There are a number of reasons why this seems to occur. The most common reason is that either one or both of the parties have entered the negotiations with unrealistic expectations. They think that they are entitled to more than the law will provide. This is especially difficult for someone to accept when they feel they have been wronged by the other party and there should be some punishment handed down to compensate him or her. This, however, is a no fault state. For the most part, someone’s wrongdoing or perceived wrongdoing is never taken into consideration. Why do people have unrealistic expectations? It could be based upon a number of different factors. The most common reason is that some people are thinking emotionally. It becomes difficult to grasp certain legal concepts when someone is either very mad or very angry. The law as it is explained to them doesn’t seem fair, so they want to continue the battle. Sometimes they are correct - the law is not always fair. It is, however, the law. You can, for the most part, be assured that a judge will follow the law in ruling in your case. Sometimes a person can be influenced by either friends or family members who don’t understand the law but attempt to advise a person nonetheless. I am often amazed how some individuals will give more credibility to advice given by a neighbor down the street than an attorney they are paying money to for his/her advice. Sometimes, unfortunately, people want to hear only what they want to hear.
The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely upon advertisements. Before you decide, ask us to send you free written information about our qualifications and experience.

Individuals who are contemplating a divorce often research the internet and suddenly become “experts.” There are many on line sites that are educational and can assist in understanding the process. There are, however, many sites that have incorrect information and can distort a person’s expectations. It is also important to remember that each state has different laws and, therefore, if you are researching laws in North Carolina, it may not have anything to do with what you can anticipate in Florida. The most important thing to remember is that negotiations to reach a successful settlement require some “give and take.” Nobody will settle for “their worst day in court.” That certainly is how attorneys weigh the value of a settlement offer. If the offer is worse than what you might expect from a judge, then there is really no reason to settle. If however, both parties understand that a settlement means giving up something to receive something, and they can put aside their emotions, a settlement should be able to be reached. It is important to remember, just like it takes two to tango, it takes two reasonable people to settle a case.

Statute of Limitations Are Tricky in Foreclosure Cases By Omar J. Arcia Foreclosure Defense and Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney
P
erhaps the hottest topic in foreclosure cases at the moment is the proper application of a statute of limitations defense. The laws that set deadlines by when lawsuits must be filed are called statutes of limitations. Different deadlines exist for different types of lawsuits, and they vary by state. If properly asserted, a statute of limitations defense can prevent a creditor from obtaining a judgment against you even if you owe the money! In Florida, there is a five year statute of limitations to file a foreclosure case and a one year statute of limitations for a deficiency judgment after foreclosure against a homeowner. The tricky question for Florida homeowners is when does the statute of limitations begin to run? According to Florida law, the 5 year statute of limitations on a foreclosure action begins to run from the date of “acceleration.” The acceleration date depends on the language in the mortgage. Generally, it runs continuously from the date of a previous filed foreclosure action (if applicable) or from the date of the last payment, unless the homeowner makes additional payments or files for bankruptcy. However, if the mortgage holder sues for foreclosure more than five years after the alleged “acceleration date,” a homeowner may be able to successfully dismiss that action. This issue is currently under consideration by the Florida Supreme Court, because lenders claim that each month a payment is not made is a new default date which “resets” the statute of limitations. If they have their way, mortgage holders and lenders could technically be immune from complying with Florida’s 5 year statute of limitations.
A deficiency judgment is a claim against a borrower for the difference between the amount owed under the loan and the amount for which the property was sold at a foreclosure auction. In Florida, the statute of limitations for deficiency judgments resulting from foreclosures on or after July 1, 2013 is just one year. The time period begins to run the day after a certificate of title is issued by the court clerk. If the property was sold before July 1, 2013, then the statute of limitations is the earlier of five years or July 1, 2014. Any deficiency judgment action commenced after these time frames will be dismissed. Defending a foreclosure, deficiency judgment and filing for bankruptcy are NOT do it yourself propositions. The attorneys at the Arcia Law Firm are privileged to successfully represent hundreds of homeowners in our community. We have foreclosure defense, loan modification and bankruptcy departments all within the same office. We will gladly refer you to our satisfied clients so you can be confident in your decision to hire our Firm. Detailed explanations of different options available to homeowners are also discussed in a new DVD developed by the Arcia Law Firm entitled “Fight For Your Home.” If you mention that you heard about the DVD through this magazine, you will receive a complimentary copy during your free consultation to discuss your case in detail. If you are struggling to make your monthly mortgage payments, if you are in the middle of a frustrating loan modification process, or if you just received a foreclosure summons, contact the Arcia Law Firm today at 954-437-9066 to schedule a free personal consultation with Omar Arcia, or visit www. arcialawfirm.com to schedule your appointment online.

Impingement Syndromes in Dancers
By Patrick Simm
By Dr. Carlo A. Messina
T
he local housing market finds itself a bit finicky, as buyers are becoming more discerning and patient. In most cases, homebuyers are less willing to pay more than the fair market value for a property and are extremely cautious in giving in to seller demands. Don’t get me wrong, homes are still selling and prices are still on the rise, albeit at a more moderate pace. As we approach the usually robust summer buying season and beyond, buyers are apt to ask for closing costs and other concessions, while sellers are more likely to find themselves reducing prices or having their listed property expire. Sellers still have the strong belief and think that we are still in the market of 2010 to 2014. What they don’t understand is that more than fifty percent of all listed properties on the Multiple Listing Service experience at least one price reduction prior to selling. Statics from the fourth quarter of 2015 show that 43.5% of all properties listed failed to sell (this statistic includes expired, cancelled and/or withdrawn). Another recent trend worth noting is that owner occupant buyers are favoring homes that are close to “move-in” condition, with little or no repairs necessary. Recently, I’ve witnessed buyers asking and actually adjusting their offer price in line with the necessary upgrades that they believe are necessary in properties that are in somewhat dated in their condition. When homes are in the condition that they get labeled as “Fixer-uppers,” initial offers from investors/buyers leave owners with a feeling of insult to say the least.
The market has without a doubt, shifted from the robust seller’s market extending a few years back. Why has the market shifted? For one, the strong U.S. dollar affects the purchasing power of foreign nationals, making South Florida’s real estate a lot more expensive. Added to this are the global economic concerns, especially in Latin America where most of the buyer pools originated from within the past couple of years. The fact that this is also an election year could well be a reason for buyer hesitation; as we await the new administration’s effect on some of the important aspects that drive our housing market, for example, the mortgage rate. Don’t get me wrong, the market is still good. We are entering a phase that most of us haven’t seen in the past fifteen years. No need to worry. In my opinion, there is close to a zero percent chance of us reliving a market meltdown. The fact remains that the majority of today’s buyers are more poised to sit and wait for the prices settle in their search for the perfect home. Historically, prices usually tend to lag behind sales trends by about 8-12 months, so expect to see the real effects by the spring of 2017. Hopefully by this time, most home sellers will completely understand the market has indeed shifted! Homebuyers Gain Leverage as the Housing Market Settles
P
ain in the front or back of the ankle can occur from a dancer standing “en point” or “demi point”. Pain behind the ankle is due to a bone prominence that pinches the soft tissue or due to a fractured bone or cartilage in the back of the ankle (Os Trigonum). A deep pain in the back of the ankle is felt and is made worse if the foot points down. Treatment includes rest, physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medication. If the pain does not improve, a Cortisone injection is given to decrease inflammation and scar tissue. Unresolved pain may be treated surgically, thus allowing a full return to dance. The back of the ankle is cleaned out and a small piece of bone may be removed with arthroscopic surgery to allow the dancer to return to full activity. Rarely an open procedure is needed. Pain in the front of the ankle is usually caused by thickening of the ankle joint lining and can cause pain while moving the leg forward on the foot. This impingement syndrome is usually associated with an ankle ligament injury and can become very painful, especially the first thing in the morning when getting out of bed to walk or after sitting for a short period of time and getting up to walk. The inflammation and soreness usually lessen with activity but return later on in the day. Physical therapy and a short course of anti-inflammatory medication may be necessary to reduce the inflammation in the ankle joint. If that does not improve, a Cortisone injection may be necessary to reduce the thickening of the soft tissue. In some cases the impingement in the front part of the ankle does not improve and arthroscopic surgery may be necessary to completely regain the ankle mobility without discomfort. In some cases a small spur is present on the front part of the lower leg bone. This can cause chronic pain and stiffness in the ankle. If present, arthroscopic removal of the bone spur is also performed to allow the dancer to resume activity. Prognosis is excellent with full return to dancing with proper treatment. Carlo A. orning sickness. Weight gain. Skin changes. Pregnancy takes its toll on your body, especially your breasts and abdominal areas. On average, most women gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. This weight is stored as fatty tissue in the breasts, abdomen, flanks (love-handles), hips, buttocks and thighs. The growing abdomen may result in a weakening and separation of the abdominal muscles, and stretching of the abdominal skin. This stretching may cause a breakage of the skin collagen, causing stretch marks. Most new moms eventually lose the excess weight. Unfortunately, the weight loss is not proportional to the amount of fatty tissue in a given area. That means more weight may be lost from the breasts or buttocks than the abdomen and waist. The result can be smaller breasts despite fullness of the waist and abdomen. Once a woman finishes breastfeeding, the breasts can deflate even further and begin to sag. The weak abdominal muscles and the excess abdominal fat appear as fullness and bulging of the belly. Many new moms may still look pregnant even as their child is taking his or her first steps. Once again, a mommy makeover can help. A mommy makeover is performed using a unique combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to counteract the physical effects of childbearing, and restore and enhance your body. In general, a mommy makeover may include: ▸▸ Breast augmentation ▸▸ Breast lift ▸▸ Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

TWO LOCATIONS:
▸▸ Butt lift ▸▸ Liposuction For example, some women need breast augmentation to correct severely deflated breasts, while others may need breast implants in combination with a breast lift. In the abdominal area, many women need a full abdominoplasty with tightening of the muscle layer as well as removal of the excess skin and fat. Some women may also benefit from liposuction to sculpt the back, hips and thighs, and smooth out their contours. Finally, an increasing number of women have also been requesting a buttock lift and other buttock-enhancing options, such as the Brazilian butt lift, as part of their mommy makeover. The length of the surgery varies based on the amount and type of procedures performed. Some surgeons may perform a mommy makeover as two or more separate operations. It is important to ask yourself certain questions before deciding to have a mommy makeover. ▸▸ Are you done having children? If you plan to have more children, wait. The vertical muscles in the abdomen (which are tightened during a tummy tuck) can re-separate. ▸▸ Are you at a stable weight? Being at a stable weight before surgery can help maximize the results. Lose all your baby weight with diet and exercise before having plastic surgery. ▸▸ Are you finished breastfeeding? You should wait until you are finished breastfeeding before having breast surgery because the enlarged ducts and increased blood vessel activity of the breast during nursing increases bleeding and the risk of infection.
