What A Great Time To Be Alive
A
ccording to the Centers for Disease Control, the life expectancy of an average American will soon be greater than 80 years. A century ago it was 50. Child mortality has never been lower. Today, almost everyone has access to virtually all of the world’s collective knowledge literally at their fingertips thanks to mobile phones. Our children live in a world where technologies they take for granted could not have been imagined just ten or 20 years ago. Technology has created a global world, and South Florida is a true melting pot. The blending of South American, European and traditional American cultures has created a truly unique place for us to raise our families and live in peace. Experience all that the region has to offer by taking advantage of the calendar section of Our City magazine. Each month we include a curated list of diverse community activities and events, which appeal to a wide range of people and interests. So go watch a show, attend a charity event, join a book club or even learn to dance. And, when you do, pinch yourself; for it truly is a great time to be alive! Sincerely,
Terry Jaillet President & Publisher

Body contouring: Show off the new you. Have you lost a significant amount of weight but are still dealing with loose skin? A series of plastic surgeries called body contouring S. Alexander Earle, MD can help trim excess skin from several places on your body.
Dr. Earle discusses different areas of the body where body contouring may help.
Sometimes people believe removing extra skin after bariatric surgery or significant weight loss is a purely cosmetic procedure. But in many cases it also has a practical health purpose.
• Chest: Men and women may require breast surgery to remove extra skin from the chest. “For women, the procedure is similar to a breast lift. This may be combined with implants, if needed. For men, the plastic surgeon performs a male breast reduction procedure,” explains Dr. Earle, who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
“Body contouring can be done after weight loss to prevent rashes, discomfort and chafing,” says S. Alexander Earle, MD, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
• Abdomen: Extra skin can be removed and muscles tightened with abdominoplasty. This makes the entire stomach area look better and tighter. • Thighs: A plastic surgeon can remove extra skin on thighs – depending on how heavy the thigh still is and the anatomic location of the skin.
• Upper arms: Patients often complain of deflated arms that resemble batwings.
Let us direct you to the best care. Access. Anytime. Anywhere.
Removing excess skin from the armpit to the elbow gives the upper arms their shape back. • Face: Stretched out skin along the neck and jawline can be removed to reveal a more healthy and youthful appearance. Body contouring is an efficient way to get rid of excess skin after your weight loss. “It can help eliminate imperfections and loose skin that diet and exercise can’t,” says Dr. Earle. Note: Not all procedures are covered by insurance. This depends on the location of the excess skin, your symptoms, and your insurance coverage.

Plantation Junior Woman’s Club Gears up for the 50th Annual Art in the Park SECTION HEAD COMMUNITY NEWS
BY JILL SHARPE
A
rt in the Park is an exciting event for all members of the community. For two days every fall, the Plantation Junior Women’s Club (PJWC) Foundation presents its annual arts festival in Liberty Tree Park in Plantation, Florida. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of hosting the event and how appropriate that the theme is “In Celebration of Art”! The festival will take place on November 12th and 13th this year. Beautiful art work and handmade crafts, a wide variety of food vendors, craft beer and incredible live music make this community oriented festival an event the whole city looks forward to. It reaches out to all the Plantation schools with an “Art Search” talent contest. There are arts and crafts activities in the Kids Korner, as well as opportunities for local musicians to perform in Kids Korner and on the main stage. “The art show has an excellent reputation and tradition and our extensive advertising make Art in the Park one of the most popular events in Broward County, said event co-chair Danielle Durham. “Visitors of all ages are attracted to the show. “
Art in the Park is a unique event as it is organized and operated entirely by volunteers – PJWC members, their families and friends. Community volunteers also come forward to make it great. “The funds raised by ART IN THE PARK are returned to our community through our many projects,” said Durham. “In years past, our net proceeds have gone to local organizations such as Plantation High School Art Club, Helen B. Hoffman Library, Young at Art Children’s Museum (benefiting low-income Plantation children), and 4Kids of South Florida (their crisis facility, Safe Place is located in Plantation). Additionally, the Plantation Junior Women’s Club funds scholarships for multiple graduating Plantation area high school seniors.” The PJWC is looking for Artists and Crafters. All artists and crafters interested in participating in the show should complete their applications on line at https://www.zapplication.org/event-info. php?ID=5036 for artists https://www.zapplication.org/event-info. php?ID=5037 for crafters.
Two Prestigious Able Trust Awards Recognize ARC Broward for Success in Helping People With Disabilities Embark on Career Paths BY JILL SHARPE
A
RC Broward, an entrepreneurial non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, career, financial literacy and a full range of other opportunities to individuals with disabilities, received two prestigious awards from The Able Trust, a key leader in providing Floridians with disabilities opportunities for successful employment. At The Able Trust’s annual Ability Awards ceremony, held Friday, June 17, 2016 in Tallahassee, FL, ARC Broward received the Beverly Chapman Award for Outstanding Employment Placement Program recognizing the organization’s outstanding job placement programs for persons with disabilities. In addition, ARC Broward President/CEO Dennis Haas was this year’s honoree for the Dr. George L. Spelios Leadership Award recognizing his outstanding leadership and advocacy efforts as the president of a Florida nonprofit disability organization. “ARC Broward has taken an innovative approach that allows participants to earn, keep and grow assets while remaining employed,” said Dr. Susanne Homant, President and CEO of The Able Trust. “They’ve been able to escape

cycles of poverty and make a life of self-sufficiency.” The Able Trust selected ARC Broward to receive this year’s Beverly Chapman Award for Outstanding Employment Placement Program. Known for leadership in creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, ARC Broward received a three-year strategic grant from The Able Trust to help develop the Center for Financial Stability in 2015. In its first year, the center assisted more than 175 individuals with disabilities. The center provides financial literacy and career development training and has led to more than 70 individuals gaining employment. ARC Broward’s guidance on economic realities means that participants obtain and maintain employment with the skills that allow them to become financially stable. Financial stability education covers banking institutions, bill payment and other financial decisions. Dennis Haas has served as President/CEO of ARC Broward for nearly 20 years. “Being recognized for making a difference in our community is a huge honor,” Haas said. “We strive to provide encouragement and opportunities that allow people with disabilities to become contributing members of our community.”

FPL Strengthens Energy Grid in Plantation BY JILL SHARPE
F
lorida Power and Light Company (FPL) field crews recently strengthened power lines in Broward County, including those that serve critical facilities and other community services in Plantation, such as the City of Plantation Fire Department,
local businesses, and a gas station and water treatment plant. More than 1,600 residents also benefitted from the upgrades designed to make the energy grid more storm-resilient and improve reliability year-round “Our customers are already seeing the benefits of strengthened power lines, with hardened lines showing on average a 40 percent improvement in everyday performance, said Eric Silage, president and CEO of FPL. The recent improvements included installing stronger utility poles - designed to withstand winds of up to 145 mph - to speed up restoration following storms. “These upgrades are part of FPL’s ongoing commitment to build a
stronger and smarter grid to deliver electricity customers can count on in good weather and bad,” Silage said. FPL crews also made the electric system in Plantation smarter by installing new automated devices, including an automated feeder switch (AFS) designed to improve service for customers. Installed on main power lines, the advanced technology helps FPL manage the electric system, detect and prevent power issues, and get life back to normal faster when outages occur. “FPL is continuing to invest in building a stronger and smarter grid that our customers in the Plantation area can count on year-round,” said Manny Miranda, senior vice president of Power Delivery for FPL. “For example, we’ve upgraded the system supplying energy to the thoroughfare along Nob Hill Road. This not only allows us to restore power to our customers faster, but it aids in getting life back to normal quicker when customers need us the most.”

Dive Into Adventures in Pulp Fiction at Sunrise Dan Pearl Library Event BY JILL SHARPE
I
nterested in finding out where the inspiration for many of today’s pop culture films came from? If you are excited about films such as the recently released “The Legend of Tarzan,” the upcoming “Zorro Reborn” and “Doc Savage” starring the Rock, then you don’t want to miss the Adventures in Pulp Fiction event at the Sunrise Dan Pearl Library at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 24th. Attendees will be treated to free food and prizes, and an education in the understanding of the early Pulp Fiction magazines, where today’s pop culture truly began. Touch and feel the original reading materials which were on everyone’s coffee tables as the daily entertainment, long before television and film, when reading was the way people entertained themselves. Publisher Bold Venture Press will have reprints of old and new pulp fiction, plus the company’s editor will be glad to talk to would-be writers about getting their works published. Back in the day, pulp fiction magazines were short stories and serials, printed on cheap paper that yellowed easily. The covers were bright, colorful shiny original artworks and the interior had
a handful of etchings, but not like today’s comic books. Today, pulp fiction magazines are expensive collectibles. Adventures in Pulp Fiction at the Dan Pearl Library will feature pulp fiction characters such as Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan, who first swung through the dense jungle in All-Story Magazine in October, 1912, and Zorro, the Johnston McCulley character who first sliced his “Z” in a 1919 story, The Curse of Capistrano, serialized in five parts in the pulp magazine All-Story Weekly in 1919. “Doc Savage Magazine, which premiered March 1933, is the basis for modern-day super heroes the likes of Superman, the Fantastic Four and many other comic characters, said Audrey Parente, Editor of Bold Venture Press. “The Black Bat, who underlies another modern-day popculture figure, first appeared in 1933, as did many of modern-day heroic mutant characters,” said Parente. Sunrise Dan Pearl Library is located at 10500 W. Oakland Park Blvd. in Sunrise. For more information call 954-357-7440.

Backpack Tips for Parents
I
t’s that time of year again – the annual search for school supplies. If a new backpack is on your list, here are some ideas to help find the right backpack for your child and help ensure that the backpack is being used correctly. Backpacks can be a great way for children and teenagers to take books and supplies to and from school. When used properly, backpacks may be better than purses, messenger or shoulder bags because the weight in the backpack is supported by the back and stomach muscles, which are the strongest muscles in the body. What to look for in a backpack First of all, remember that you should carry no more than 10 percent of your body weight in the backpack. That means an 80 pound child should have no more than 8 to 12 pounds of books and supplies in the pack. A bag with too much weight may force the child backward and to compensate, the child will lean forward at the hips or arch the back. This posture may compress the spine and may cause shoulder, back or neck pain. A good backpack will have two wide, padded straps and a waist strap. Although your child may want to sling the pack over one shoulder (which may be considered “cool”), you should have the child place both straps across the shoulders and wear the waist strap. This will help distribute the weight in the backpack more evenly. Other buying tips: ▸▸ Consider the size of the backpack to the size of the child. Younger, smaller children need smaller backpacks. ▸▸ Look for a lightweight pack with lots of compartments to help distribute the weight of books and supplies. ▸▸ Find a backpack with a padded back to increase comfort and keep sharp objects from poking through the fabric. ▸▸ Wheeled backpacks may help with heavy loads but some schools don’t allow them. Also, the wheels make it hard to get the backpack
up stairs and the design may not fit in a locker. Backpack Safety Tips So, you’ve looked at all the options and have selected the right backpack for your child. Let’s talk about some backpack safety measures you and your child can take. ▸▸ Make sure your child knows how to wear a backpack. He or she should use both shoulder straps. Check to be sure the straps are tight enough so that the backpack rests close to the body. Look at how the backpack rests on the back: It should be even in the middle of the back and not fall below the curve of your child’s lower back. ▸▸ As with any weight, proper lifting is essential to protecting the back. Teach your child to bend at the knees, grab the pack with both hands and then lift it to the shoulder. ▸▸ Backpacks can be a hazard to others. Encourage your child to look around before taking the backpack off and try to place it away from walkways so no one trips.
▸▸ Continue to look for signs that your child is carrying too much in a backpack, such as: ▸▸ Struggling to get the backpack on or off ▸▸ Leaning forward or hunching over while carrying the backpack ▸▸ Talking about back pain or numbness or weakness in the arms and legs How to Lighten the Load When your child first brings home the loaded back pack, you may be astonished at the number of materials and heavy books your child is carrying. Try to limit unnecessary items in the backpack such as laptops, cell phones and video games. Talk to your child’s school and see if paperback or CD-ROM versions of books are available. Some schools have started placing curriculum materials on the school’s website. Talk to your child about using a locker during the day for books and supplies instead of carrying everything throughout the day. Also, only materials needed for homework or studying should be brought home at night. If you notice that your child is bringing more materials home on Friday, check to see if he or she is putting off homework during the week. Good planning may save your child’s back! If your child continues to complain about physical symptoms of back or neck pain, you should consult a doctor. Fourteen-Year-Old Plantation IMACS Student Gives Back to the Program That Taught Him So Much BY JILL SHARPE

T
he Institute For Mathematics and Computer Science (IMACS) received a grant of $5,000 from the Multiplied Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward to provide full scholarships worth over $10,000 for 20 students who enrolled in IMACS’ 2016 Hi-Tech Summer Camp. The Multiplied Foundation was founded by 14-year-old IMACS student, Peyton Robertson, with the mission of supporting and expanding STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. Robertson has a deep appreciation for how early exposure to enriching STEM activities can motivate a young person. At 11 years old, he won the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. By 14, he was awarded three patents. Robertson credits his academic accomplishments, in part, to the strong foundation in mathematical thinking that he developed while attending IMACS: “The early skills I developed at IMACS helped me to have a deeper understanding of the math and computer sciences classes that I have taken in school,” said Robertson. “My hope is that other students will benefit from the foundation that the IMACS program can provide.” “IMACS was honored to work with the Multiplied Foundation to provide scholarships to 20 very deserving students,” said IMACS President Terry Kaufman.
“Bright and curious minds come from all backgrounds, and we all need to do more to identify and nurture these kids. We thank the Community Foundation of Broward for making this opportunity possible.” Camp scholarships were awarded to rising 4th through 9th graders who have a desire to build their math and logical reasoning abilities but who would otherwise not have the resources to attend. Recipients were selected from applicants at Piney Grove Boys Academy (PGBA) in Lauderdale Lakes and “I Have A Dream” Foundation in Miami. James Wilson, III, a rising 5th grader at PGBA, was excited to attend the camp. “Every day we get to do a cool project and learn something new,” exclaimed James. “It’s great to see my son, who is very athletic and into sports, also be so intrigued and interested in technology thanks to his time with the program,” observed James’s mother, Melissa Mata. “The exposure he’s getting at IMACS is definitely priceless.” Frances Bolden, Educational Administrator at PGBA, is also impressed with IMACS: “I could tell from meeting the staff and touring the facilities that IMACS is about challenging students through the latest technology to expand their knowledge to a new level.” She added, “Everyone gave us a warm welcome, and I left knowing that our students were in good hands.” For more information, visit www.imacs.org.
IN EVERY CHILD, THERE IS POTENTIAL WAITING TO TAKE OFF. But it doesn’t just happen. Who will ignite a passion for learning in your child? And who will help your child turn passion into life-changing talents? The answer is IMACS and we’ll prove it to you before you even begin.

South Plantation High Student Receives Invaluable Experience in Bank of America Student Leaders® Program SCHOOL NEWS
BY JILL SHARPE
T
his summer, five high school students from Broward County including one from Plantation received a chance to earn real life work experience through an eight-week paid internship at local nonprofits as part of Bank of America’s Student Leaders® program. Their work experience included a week-long trip to Washington D.C. for a leadership summit, where the students toured Capitol Hill and met with members of Congress. The summer internship at the YMCA of South Florida offers the young adults a chance to learn civic, social and business leadership skills and the critical role nonprofits play in the community. The students, made up of juniors and seniors, were selected to participate in the annual program in recognition of their community service efforts and academic achievements. This volunteerism is an opportunity for the students to gain work experience early on, which is one way Bank of America is helping Broward County youth prepare for tomorrow’s competitive job market. The bank is giving young people the aspirations, the skills and the confidence to make the most of opportunities available to them. “Our Student Leaders Program is so much more than an internship, it is an effort to give young professionals the tools to be successful adults, make responsible financial decisions, experience the gift of nonprofit work and ultimately prepare them
to lead and transform their community,” said Lori Chevy, Fort Lauderdale market president, Bank of America. At the Washington D.C. Summit, which took place July 10-15, 220 Student Leaders from around the country participated in skill-building workshops, a service learning project, sessions to develop better money habits and meetings with members of Congress. This year’s Bank of America Student Leaders® were Maya King, incoming senior at South Plantation High School, Brook Bambis, incoming senior at College Academy at BC, Elizabeth Barbe, incoming senior at Cypress Bay High School, Rohit Anand, incoming senior at Miramar High School and Maxine Delacruz, recent graduate of McArthur High School. “I learned a lot about how nonprofit agencies, government, and businesses work cohesively to make social change in our communities. During our Washington D.C. summit, my fellow student leaders and I learned about relevant social issues, leadership styles and professional development. Personally, I learned a lot about myself and what I can to do as an agent of change in my community,” said Maya King. Since 2004, the Bank of America Student Leaders® program has connected 60 teens from Broward County with summer employment, and has supported 2,200 young people nationwide.

O
nce again, the summer has quickly passed us by and it is time for the school year to begin again. It is an exciting and often stressful time, as children begin a new year with new classes, new teachers and sometimes new schools. For children of divorced parents, there can be some additional stress. Of course, parents who place the children first can make it much less stressful. These days we are seeing more equal time sharing between mom and dad. This also means equal responsibilities for each parent as well. In an intact marriage, parents usually assume certain roles and assist each other. In a one parent household, there are no longer defined roles. Mom and Dad must each get the children up and ready on time, perhaps pack lunches and, most importantly, make sure the kids complete homework assignments. Communication between parents is the key to a successful school year. Each parent must realize that they are on the same team and they should not be looking for a “gotcha” moment. Each should be ready to assist each other rather than try and find fault to be used in a court proceeding. Joint parenting is not a contest - Mom vs. Dad. It is an attempt to have both parents do what is best for the child, as opposed to trying to prove who may be the better parent.

The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely upon advertisements. Before you decide, ask us to send you free written information about our qualifications and experience.
The most common equal time sharing schedule is two nights with one parent (Monday and Tuesday), two nights with the other parent (Wednesday and Thursday) and the weekend (Friday to Monday) rotating from week to week. A set schedule, such as this, gives a child some stability and doesn’t cause him/ her to wonder where he/she will be sleeping from day to day. Of course, communication between parents is still necessary. Class projects, homework and school events must be known to each parent. Parents should not rely on their children to deliver this information. Often, teachers will be accommodating and provide duplicate information, so each parent is aware of assignments and future school events. Shared Parental Responsibility requires shared information. Sometimes I encounter parents who are so angry with each other that their focus is on the other parent’s possible shortcomings rather than working together to assist the children. Unfortunately, emotions sometime interfere with common sense. It is difficult to successfully maintain an equal time sharing schedule if the parties do not reside in close proximity to one another. Getting a child to school on time can be a problem if one of the parents resides far from the school. It is not in a child’s best interests to have to wake up extremely early to accommodate a parent who chooses to reside a distance from his/her school. If a parent truly wants to have equal time, the child’s needs must come first. A child who has both parents in his/her life will derive a benefit, but only if the focus of each parent is the child and his/her needs. The law firm of Evan H. Baron and Associates is located at 1655 North Commerce Parkway, Suite 201, in Weston. If you have any questions concerning this issue or any other family law matter, call the office at 954-385-9160.

Prevent Falls in 2016!
S
eptember 22nd is Falls Prevention Awareness Day, and the National Council on Aging has revealed this year’s theme: Ready, Steady, Balance: Prevent Falls in 2016. We’re targeting fall-related injuries as a community risk issue and teaching people how to prevent falls is the most important step. Taking a spill - whether from tripping or simply losing one’s balance - can be downright dangerous. Injuries commonly occur - causing pain, suffering, and even death in some cases. Onein-three adults age 65 and older fall each year, resulting in 2.5 million emergency room visits and over $35 billion in healthcare costs. Fall-related injuries are a leading cause patients needing long-term care. Fortunately, falling isn’t inevitable, and it often can be prevented. You can take action to effectively reduce your risk factors such as fear of falling, gait and balance problems, certain medications, clutter in the home, and some health conditions. ▸▸ Stay Active. Lack of exercise results in diminished muscle tone and bone density, whereas physical activity can maintain and even increase strength and balance. ▸▸ Visit your doctor: regularly review medications for side effects and interactions, have your vision & hearing checked, updating prescription glasses and hearing aids if needed. ▸▸ Use assisted devices – such as a walker – as advised and use them consistently. ▸▸ Do a home safety check to identify and correct common hazards like loose rugs, cluttered walkways, and insufficient lighting. Classes for activities proven to both reduce a person’s likelihood of falling and buffer against injuries resulting from a fall – such as Tai Chi, Chair Yoga, and A Matter of Balance - are offered regularly at the City of Sunrise Senior Center. Please call (954) 572-3670 for details. A broad range of resources can also be obtained through the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) by calling (954) 745-9779.

Four Steps to Checking Your Credit Report ask the expert
BY NANCY RAPPAPORT PRESIDENT AND CEO OF PRIORITYONE CREDIT UNION OF FLORIDA
I
f there were a song about keeping yourself safe from financial scams, the refrain to that song would be “Check your credit report!” But practically speaking, what does that mean? How can that one piece of advice keep you safe from so much? Though it sounds like an advanced financial maneuver, checking your credit report is easier than balancing your checkbook. Let’s look at each step in detail: 1. Get your credit report There are three different credit reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. They share data, but each makes its own report. You’re entitled to one free report from each agency every year. You can request your free credit report at annualcreditreport.com. This is the only website approved by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for this purpose. You can also get a free copy of your credit report if you’ve been denied credit or have been the victim of certain kinds of fraud. 2. Go over your report With your credit report now in your hands, it’s time
to look it over. There are three things you’ll want to look for. You want to find accounts that are open in your name and you want to see if there’s any collection activity. You’ll also want to take a look at the number and frequency of inquiries. You’ll want to look through each one to make sure you recognize them. 3. Report inaccuracies Each reporting agency maintains a separate error reporting process, so you’ll have to report each error to the agency that made it. For basic errors, like address, name, or personal information, the agency can make those corrections with minimal trouble. For more serious errors, you’ll need to send a dispute letter. It’s important that you clearly identify the accounts or items you’re disputing and explain why you consider the item an error. Attach copies, but not originals, of documents that support your claim such as police reports for stolen or lost wallets, bankruptcy orders that discharged a debt or letters from a lender indicating that an account was opened fraudulently. The agency has 30 days to make a determination about your dispute. They’ll send your dispute to the information provider (the company that told the agency about the account or negative item). If the reporting agency finds your claim to be correct, you can request that they send copies of the updated report to anyone who received your credit report in the last six months, and to any employer who pulled your credit report over the last two years.
They’re also required to send you an updated copy with any new information in it. 4. Stay on it Checking your credit report periodically is a great way to keep yourself safe from identity theft and other modern crimes. Also, many financial institutions are offering identity theft protection services that can help you monitor your accounts. These services may also include fraud alerts and freezes on your credit reports. Call your local credit union for details. For more information, please give us a call at 954-335-5100; visit us at www. priorityonefl.org or stop by one of our branches conveniently located in Sunrise, at 3000 North University Drive; in Fort Lauderdale, at 1900 West Oakland Park Boulevard or Coral Springs at 1700 North University Drive; Suite 100.

ASK THE EXPERT

uring menopause, a woman’s ovaries begin to produce less Estrogen and after menopause Estrogen production is practically non-existent. Without Estrogen, changes occur that can affect intimacy, causing dryness or discomfort and may cause frequent urinary infections. Until recently, therapy for these conditions was limited to hormones such as Estrogen and over-thecounter vaginal moisturizers and lubricants. Many women cannot take estrogen or are afraid of the possible side effects of estrogen. Estrogen therapy can take three to six months to produce significant improvement in symptoms. Fortunately, there is new, non-hormonal treatment called MonaLisaTouch Laser Therapy that has been shown to be very successful in treating this problem. In fact, 85 percent of women treated with MonaLisaTouch Laser Therapy report dramatic improvements or complete resolution of these symptoms. MonaLisaTouch Laser Therapy is a virtually painless procedure that uses a specially designed C02 laser that penetrates the walls and stimulates an increase in collagen, elastin and blood supply. This returns the treated tissue to the state that was present prior to menopause, revitalizing the area and making the tissues softer and more flexible, increasing moisture and reducing or eliminating symptoms. Although almost half of treated women experience some relief within 3 weeks after the first treatment, studies have shown that the best results occur after 3 treatments, performed once every 6 weeks. Thereafter, an annual treatment has shown to prevent the return of symptoms. In our practice, we apply a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure and we have found that this virtually eliminates discomfort. Our patients have all described the treatment as minimally uncomfortable and typically say it feels like a vibration or tingling sensation. Worldwide, published research, as well as our own experience, has shown no adverse effects of the treatment. Patients will experience a small amount of pinkish discharge for approximately two days after the treatment and typically report that the area can feel as if it has a mild sunburn. Patients are advised against strenuous exercise and intimate activity for two days but can resume all activity 48 hours after the treatment.
