Gas and energy prices are soaring, keep tires inflated, consolidate trips such as combining your trip to work with a trip to the grocery store, consider carpooling, walking, biking etc. Do some sort of energy audit like use low energy light bulbs, increase the temperature on your AC by one or two degrees, check for leaks in your home and fix them, have your AC serviced, explore if you qualify for Federal programs that assist with energy bills. Food prices are soaring, but the prices of some food items are increasing at a faster rate than others, substitute lower priced food for higher price food, such as buy more generic brands, look for weekly sales coupons, eat healthy (more vegetables and less meat, price of vegetables has not increased as much as meat). Try to increase your income by selling things you do not use, start a small business, maybe a second job. Refrain from buying unnecessary things including new cars, new TV if you have one in working condition. Shop around for car insurance, home insurance etc., increase deductible or lower coverage if appropriate. Cancel some monthly subscriptions, including apps you can temporarily do without. If you have money to invest, consider dividend paying stocks, short-term bonds, inflation-linked bonds, gold, real estate etc. i.e., do not keep extra cash, which is losing value. Suggest non-essential businesses move to a temporary hybrid work week 2 or 3 days in the office, work from home on the other days.

West Broward High School Takes Top Honors in

JROTC COUNTYWIDE CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION

ongratulations to West Broward High School for placing first overall in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Countywide Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Championships. The event was hosted at Boyd Anderson High School and included 24 JROTC programs with a combined total of approximately 1,000 cadets competing in 21 drill events. West Broward High School placed first in 17 categories. Everglades High School, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and South Plantation High School rounded out the top four overall finishers. Corals Springs High School and J.P. Taravella High School were also awarded several trophies. “The performance of each cadet was outstanding. Watching the precision, skill, and enthusiasm of everyone was simply amazing,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright. “I’m proud of the hard work and commitment of all the cadets and JROTC instructors.”

The countywide championship also served as a state qualifier, with winning Army JROTC programs advancing to the Florida State Drill Meet in Lakeland, Florida, on April 1 – 2, 2022. COLLEGE SAVINGS PLANS START AT $45/MONTH

iming to bring urgency to the importance of saving early for college, Florida Prepaid kicked off its annual Open Enrollment period today by offering families who purchase a 529 Prepaid Plan by April 30, 2022 up to $500 in a 529 Savings Plan to be used toward additional college expenses. Open Enrollment runs February 1 through April 30, 2022 and is the annual window when families can lock in future tuition costs at today’s Plan prices. Plans start at $45/ month. To encourage Florida families to get started saving for college, Florida Prepaid will invest in their college savings journey along with them. For each year of college or university Prepaid Plan purchased this Open Enrollment, Florida Prepaid will put $125 into a Florida 529 Savings Plan, up to $500. “We know time is valuable, and families are busier than ever – always striving to provide a solid foundation for their children,” said Florida Prepaid College Board Chairman John D.
