The City of Pembroke Pines invites all to the 25th Annual Art & Music Fest in the Pines, being held at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, 601 City Center Way, on Saturday, November 4, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sunday, November 5, from noon to 5:00 PM.

The city's iconic event, Artfest, has been rebranded to celebrate its 25th anniversary and the diversity in the local community. Art & Music Fest in the Pines is a two-day art and music celebration free to the public that will attract people from the local and surrounding communities.

Music lovers and art enthusiasts can expect an unforgettable weekend filled with live music, artists from all over the country, diverse cuisine courtesy of the Gourmet Truck Expo, hands-on art demonstrations, a student art competition, a kids’ art and game zone, and so much more.

The special guest speaker is Dr. Laura Cruz, Psychologist and Director of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) for the City of Pembroke Pines Charter SchoOLP, who will share “take home techniques” to help caregivers and parents improve communication with their child(ren), specifically focusing on how to handle difficult conversations at home, foster healthy media usage and support children working through their concerns or fears. The Food

The interior of the restaurant has been transformed from the previous establishment into a comfortable atmosphere for customers to dine in style. It is a large space but still feels comfortable with family or a date with pleasant music playing in the background. There is also a private room for parties or business meetings. The bar and buffet areas are decorated with a cool modern Asian theme. Most importantly, the buffet and food prep areas are immaculately clean.

If you enjoy sushi and have a big appetite, this may be the best restaurant in South Florida. They offer a huge selection of sushi rolls. Traditional selections like Spicy Tuna Rolls and California Rolls are always available. They also offer an ever-changing selection of chef-created features that are worth the price of admission all by themselves. The cold bar includes offering like snow crab legs, oysters, peel and eat shrimp, crawfish, sashimi and more.

TIPS ON PURCHASING YOUR IDEAL RUNNING SHOE (PART 3)

Finding the RIGHT shoe can be a real adventure. The confusion is further compounded by the fact that running shoe companies are constantly changing names and altering designs by adding new gadgets.

HERE ARE A FEW TIPS THAT MAY HELP YOU:

▸ Shop in a running shoe store that employs veteran runners who are familiar with shoe designs.

▸ The maximum life expectancy of a running shoe is 500 miles, at which point the EVA has essentially lost 40-50% of its shock absorption.

▸ Shoes have a shelf life and usually begin decomposing in 6 – 8 mos. This is important when considering buying last year’s model because it’s on sale.

▸ Pick a shoe for its functional characteristics and not because it looks cool or is on sale.

▸ Do not expect a shoe to feel better after it is broken in, it should feel good from the start.

▸ Buy 2 pairs of shoes at a time and alternate daily. This will allow the shoe to dry out, reducing the chances of infections. Additionally, it will give the air cells in the EVA a chance to re-expand, maximizing the cushioning and lengthening the life span of the shoe.

▸ Flex the shoe to assure that flexibility is maintained in the forefoot, not in the arch or middle of the shoe particularly if you have plantar fasciitis.

▸ Observe to make sure rubber components are not old and brittle. Look for cracks.

▸ In a nutshell shell, high arched feet require shock absorption (cushioned) and low arched feet require motion control.

▸ If you wear orthotics take them with you when purchasing a new pair of shoes and wear socks to maintain the appropriate volume needed to assure a proper fit.

▸ Do not race, particularly a marathon, or run a distance of greater than 16 miles unless approximately 150 miles are put on the shoe to break them in properly and allow your body to adapt to the new surface.

A SHOE MAY BE AN IMPROPER FIT IF:

▸ The upper is blown out medially or laterally (rep-

resenting a wrong shaped last for that type of foot).

▸ The heel counter breaks down early (which would indicate insufficient motion control)

▸ There is excessive toe box wearing and if toenails are becoming black and blue. This may indicate that the shoe is either too short – resulting in jamming, or too long -causing the foot to slide forward during landing.

▸ Consider finding a different shoe if the outsole wears too fast in certain areas
