t seemed this Florida ‘winter’ season had a num-
ber of cool days and even colder nights. But now, with the Easter/Passover holidays behind us and the kids back in school after their March break holidays, the temperatures are slowly creeping upwards and the A/C units are humming. It’s time to start thinking about what to do this summer. For kids, summer time means camp. We are blessed with a variety of different program options. From language camps to sports camps to music camps and even arts & craft camps, there is some sort of program available to appeal to every child. Many people are now planning where to go over summer vacation. Like my family, many of us have relatives and friends out-of-state or even in another country. Summer is always a fantastic time to go and visit, to re-connect, and to maintain a close bond with those we love. As South Floridians we love to visit different cities, climb mountains and travel abroad. Of course, our own state offers plenty of travel options from the azure waters and fantastic fishing in the Keys to the always popular theme parks in Orlando to beautiful and historical Saint Augustine. Wherever your travels take you, don’t forget to take along a copy of Plantation Town Times. It’s a great way to keep up with what’s going on at home while you’re away. Plus, if you send us a picture of you holding your magazine from your vacation destination, you might be the next winner in our The World’s Favorite Newspaper™ contest. Sincerely,

Family Day Planned to Celebrate the Arts and Autism By Julie Levin
T
his month, Plantation’s Heritage Park will be the backdrop
for a first of its kind event highlighting beautiful art, food, music and family fun. The 1st Annual Art Walk 4 Autism is planned for April 20, and organizers say it will be a great family day that will benefit the local special needs population in Broward County. “It’s an event designed to encourage, motivate and view local artists with autism, as well as raise funds to send children to camp that is hosted ARC Broward,” said Jemettie McKeithen, the event coordinator. As many as 2,000 people are expected to stop by the outdoor event which will benefit both ARC Broward and Artists With Autism, Inc. Guests will be able to stroll through several shelters at the park enjoying art, a computer corner, live music, food trucks and a chill zone for sensitive children. Because the event has grown so rapidly, they are still looking for sponsors that can provide additional computers or help with the chill zones. “We want every child to have the opportunity to fully enjoy this event,” said McKeithen. One of the highlights of the event will be the art corner, which will consist of live art being created on the spot, as well as artwork from local artists with autism. Some of the artists are members of Artists With Autism, a South Florida networking group which is geared Artists Norval Hall, Brandon Drucker, and Michael Vidal will be displaying their artwork at the 1st Annual Art Walk 4 Autism. toward promoting guidance, expertise and venue resources to aspiring artists with autism. According to group founder Cynthia Drucker, local craft shows and exhibits are ideal way for the members to learn business skills and social skills as they sell their own artwork. McKeithen said the early response for the event shows the strong need for A sample of the artwork that will on display: events of this type. They say “Tobermory” by AWA artist Brandon Drucker it is a great way to encourage artists with autism, while also reminding parents to always be looking for new outlets for their children. “Because it is so different and has not been done in this fashion before, our number of respondents for attendance has grown tremendously,” said Mckeithen. The 1st Annual Art Walk 4 Autism will be held April 20 at Plantation Heritage Park , located at 1100 South Fig Tree Lane in Plantation. They are still looking for additional artists and sponsors. For an artist application or for more information, call Cynthia Drucker at 954-895-2786, or emailFLagaL1106@yahoo.com. Plantation’s Diamond Jubilee continues this month. The focus in April will be the City of Plantation’s “60 and Fabulous” Anniversary Gala- a Cocktail Reception and Dinner Dance set for April 12 at the Renaissance Plantation Hotel. Hosted by the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce, the “60 and Fabulous” Anniversary Gala will take guests back to the 60’s while also incorporating memories of great eras gone by. The gala will celebrate the City’s 60th Anniversary, while also honoring the City’s Mayor and City Shirley Schuler signed copies of the book “Images of America: Council Members. In addition, they will also Plantation” at the opening of the Plantation Historical Museum’s “60 introduce the new Greater Plantation Chamber Years and Counting” exhibit (Photo of Commerce’s Inaugural Trustee Members. provided by the City of Plantation) “Plantation: 60 and Fabulous” is just the latest event this year designed to celebrate the City’s milestone. In February, a large crowd turned out at Volunteer Park for some great music and family fun. “Celebrate Plantation’s 60th Birthday Twilight Concert and Expo,” presented by Plantation General Hospital and Westside Regional Medical Center and coordinated by the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce, the City of Plantation and the Plantation Police Department, provided a great chance for families to come together and enjoy the music of the band Sekond Nature. There was also a children’s area, Health, Family and Business Expo, great food and a Food Truck Corral by The Food Truck Collective. Earlier in the month, the city also opened the exhibit “60 Years and Counting” at the Plantation Historical Museum. The exhibit, which celebrates Plantation’s history, will

be on display through May 11th. That same night, a new book chronicling Plantation’s first 60 years made its debut. On February 7, residents got their first look at Images of America: Plantation, a brand new book which details through photos and images the distinctive stories that have shaped Plantation over the years. “It is a pictorial book which takes in everything from the very The Diamond Jubilee was also celebrated February beginning up to today,” said 22 with music at Celebrate Plantation’s 60th Birthday Twilight Concert and Expo (Photo provided by Shirley Schuler, the Curator the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce) of the Plantation Historical Museum who authored the Plantation edition. With its launch, the book becomes part of the Images of America series, produced by Arcadia Publishing, which chronicles the history of small towns and downtowns across the country. Plantation’s “60 and Fabulous” Anniversary Gala will be held April 12 at the Renaissance Plantation Hotel. There will be a Private VIP Sponsor Only Reception from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a formal sit down dinner, cocktails and dancing. Tickets are $75 per person. For more information, call 954-587-1410. The City will continue the celebration on July 4th, when they’ll host 60 Years of Celebrating Our Nation together- an Independence Day Parade & Patriotic Evening with special 60th Birthday Children’s Carnival.

Shoppers Find New and Old Treasures at Annual Fundraiser By Julie Levin

or two days, Volunteer Park in Plantation was jam-packed with an array
of handcrafts, collectibles, jewelry and other forms of beautiful art. The handcrafts were on display March 2 and 3 as part of the fifth annual Festival of Treasures event, hosted by the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club. Guests strolled along the winding pathways at the park, as well as indoors, to browse the handmade works of dozens of artists, including many from Plantation and the surrounding areas. In addition to the crafts, there was also food, a DJ, entertainment and a Kids Zone. The proceeds from admission to the bounce house were donated to Make-A-Wish South Florida. The Plantation Junior Woman’s Club sponsors the show as a fundraiser for beautification projects in the City of Plantation. According to the club, past projects have included tree plantings at Liberty Tree Park and The Plantation Arboretum. They have also hosted annual tree plantings at each of the Plantation Elementary and Middle Schools where tree seedlings are given to each student who participates in the tree planting for Arbor Day. PJWC also sponsored the installation of a mosaic tree frog medallion at Plantation Woods, donated a bronze plaque to honor Jeffrey Siegel in Liberty Tree Park, and updated landscaping at Volunteer Park, the Veltri Tennis Center at Central Park and more.

Going “Over the Edge” to Help Fight Cancer By Julie Levin

that they really don’t know what to do. Gilda’s Club gave me that extra bit that I needed,” he said. All of the proceeds from the event will go to Gilda’s Club South Florida, which has been providing programs to those living with cancer and their family and friends since 1997. Gilda’s Club, named in honor of comedian Gilda Radner, is a free, nonprofit cancer support community. They offer an essential complement to medical care, providing an array of networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities. “Gilda’s Club is excited to be hosting this unique event,” said Gilda’s Club CEO, Shelley Goren. “There are so many thrill-seekers out there that are going to love the opportunity to rappel down a building – just like in the movies.” Howard Jacoby says his wife Marlene and three grown children couldn’t believe he wanted to attempt the new feat. But he is ready to put himself out there for the cause. “It is an exciting event that helps a good cause and helps a lot of people,” he said.
oward Jacoby has rappelled down
a building before as an instructor with the Boy Scouts, but never from a birds-eye view, 14 stories up. “I’ve never done it from this height,” the Plantation resident said. “It will be a thrill though. I will be high enough to see Fort Lauderdale and the ocean in front of me.” Jacoby, a grandfather of two, was one of the first to sign up for an innovative fundraiser that will have him scaling new heights. On Saturday, April 27, Gilda’s Club South Florida will host Over the Edge for Gilda’s, a rappelling event that will have participants rappel down the side of a building and ask people to sponsor them. The event will be held at the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale Hotel, at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and A1A. “I think being that high up will really build up the adrenaline,” said Jacoby. The mission will be a personal one for the 60-year old Jacoby, who has been battling Non Hodgkins Lymphoma since 2001. He has gone through extensive chemotherapy three different times, and says Gilda’s Club was a beacon of hope when it came to providing the first-hand support he needed. “Your friends can do a lot of things to help you, but it gets to a certain point

Ellen’s Ultimate Workout…Six Studios Under One Roof
E
LLEN’S ULTIMATE WORKOUT slogan is, “We are not a gym.” Ellen
has been around gyms for 30 years and has seen that they do not work for a lot of people. Either clients do not know what to do or their body changes in the first six weeks and then plateaus. They get frustrated and stop coming. As a result, she created a one-of-a-kind studio six years ago. First, she took the best fat burning, muscle sculpting, de-stressing and flexibility programs and developed lesson plans that keep changing to prevent plateaus. Next, she created a gorgeous space, with top of the line equipment and the only large group training studio in the area. The six studios under one roof include: REFORMER PILATES STUDIO – Ellen fused her Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology and Pilates specialization to create a unique Pilates Fit program. It has attracted housewives looking for that WOW body, as well as Miami Dolphin football players, who train at the studio off season so they are injury free in season. Results are a trunk that is strong (no backaches in this crowd) and fit. SPINNING STUDIO – After spinning at a different gym for three years, one of Ellen’s new clients said, “I just learned that all spin classes are not created equal.” During the class, music videos play on the screen on the front wall. Top Iron Men and athletes in the area often lead the class. Clients can burn fat, without impacting their joints. BALLET BARRE STUdiO – You don’t need to be a dancer to look like one at Ellen’s. Women love the hip, butt and thigh routines, and creative core moves. It gets them closer to that Dancing with the Stars body. Since classes are usually wait list only, Ellen just added more. HOT YOGA STUDIO – When Ellen decided to add a Hot Yoga Studio to Ellen’s, she spared no expense. Her five-star heating system attracts clients from South Beach. Clients can de-tox, de-stress and become more flexible. They never smell the person
18 PLT ALL 0413.indd 18
next to them or sit in a stuffy room. This studio has attracted the BEST yoga professionals in South Florida. Most of the area yoga instructors come and take classes from these professionals. ULTIMATE WORKOUT STUDIO – This workout, which has now been franchised as the Orangetheory Workout, is the ultimate fat burning and muscle endurance program. Ellen created it, because she was frustrated with the boot camp mentality of training. She wanted an hour workout that was science-based. The creative lesson plans allow all levels to take the class at the same time. Clients who train in the program for six weeks (3 to 4 times a week) lose an average of 20 to 40 pounds. INFANT AND TODDLER FITNESS STUDIO – Miss Sue, who is well known in the area as the “Queen of Mommy and Me Programming,” put together a movement program for infants to toddlers. It uses music, equipment, puppets and parent stimulation. When infants and toddlers learn crawl, bounce and balance activities in a specific manner, studies have shown that they become more coordinated adults. For information, call 954-472-9440 or visit www.ellensultimateworkout.com.

local artists at its annual Art Show. The 2013 Plantation Art Guild Open Show and Award Presentation was held March 4 at the Deicke Auditorium, located at 5701 Cypress Road in Plantation. The gala, which was open to the public, was a chance to recognize artists who were showing a wide variety of two-dimensional art and office decor. Plantation Mayor Diane Veltri Bendekovic and other city leaders were on hand to help present the awards. The judging was done this year by local artist Sherry O’Neal. First place went to Judy Nunno for her piece called “Crab Cakes.” Second place went to Thomas Rebek for “Facing the Sun” and third place went to Dorothy Schwab for “Rise’s Place.” The group awarded its annual $1,000 scholarship to student Monet King of Plantation High School, who was on hand with her family to receive the honor. The scholarship was one of the earliest objectives of the Plantation Art Guild, which was created in 1973 to provide opportunities for artistic expression, education, and appreciation. Open to artists of all types, the group holds demonstrations by well-known artists, art shows and exhibits, workshops and more. All of their fundraising activities benefit the city of Plantation, Deicke Auditorium, Art in Public Places and scholarships.

Fire Captain Honored for Heroism By Julie Levin
A Plantation Fire Captain was recently recognized for heroism that went above and beyond the call of duty. Plantation Fire Captain Randall (Randy) Pettitt received the Plantation Fire Department’s Meritorious Service award for helping to save a woman’s life, whose car went into a lake. Capt. Pettit was honored for his actions February 13 at the Plantation City Council meeting, With his wife Jill at his side, Pettit received the Meritorious Service Award from Plantation Fire Chief Laney Stearns and Mayor Diane Veltri Bendekovic. According to the Fire Department, Captain Pettit was on his way to dinner with Jill October 30 of last year when they saw a car go into the lake at Peters and Pine Island Road in Plantation. Captain Pettitt pulled off the road and contacted Plantation’s Dispatch Center via the radio. Not knowing the condition of the vehicle, what injuries the driver might have sustained, and fearing she might further injure herself, Pettitt made the decision to enter the water and safely remove her to the bank. Plantation Rescue arrived shortly thereafter and the woman was transported to Westside Regional Medical Center where she recovered.

American Heritage Students Headed to National Science Bowl Competition By Julie Levin
L
ater this month, a team of students from American Heritage
School in Plantation will test their science skills against thousands of the brightest students in the nation. The team is headed to Washington D.C. April 25-29 after earning a spot in the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl. “We are hoping to take away the crown this time,” said Leya Matthew, an AP and honors biology teacher at the school, as well as the sponsor of the school’s Science Bowl team. The students won the chance to participate in the national competition by winning the regional competition for the South and Central Florida area. They went up against 25 teams, including Cypress Bay High in Weston and Coral Springs High School. It will be American Heritage’s second trip to the nationals in four years. Matthew says they have been preparing for this moment since the summer. “They have been practicing since August,” she said.”They are very determined.”

Headed to Washington D.C for the National Science Bowl (l-r).: Jacob Kenin, Jude Jaraki , Nanruoyi Zhou , Kevin Kang and Samir Khan
The team members include senior Jude Jaraki, juniors Jacob Kenin , Nanruoyi Zhou and Kevin Kang and sophomore Samir Khan. The students spend at least five hours every week reviewing questions and topics from past years, answering practice questions and honing their competition skills. During the competition, the students must tackle questions on topics including astronomy, biology, earth science and physics, chemistry and energy. “They try to build a team good in different aspects. Somebody is really good in physics, someone else is good in math, and they divide the other topics between themselves,” Matthew said. Now in its 23rd year the National Science Bowl, which is managed by the Office of Science, was established to encourage students in the challenging but essential subjects of science and mathematics; to excel and ultimately pursue careers in those fields. Since its inception, more than 225,000 students have participated in what has become one of the nation’s largest science competitions. This year, about 9,500 more high school students and 4,500 middle school students are expected to take part. Leya Matthew is encouraged by her team’s effort and says they are a joy to work with. “They are very motivated, great students and really want to win,” she said. The Department’s Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States and is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Playing Sports with Shoulder Pain By Dr. Fernando “Tony” Moya
T
ennis in South Florida is one of the most enjoy-
able and practiced sports activities. Unfortunately many tennis players and other athletes develop shoulder pain from playing and overuse. This pain can be caused by a traumatic event or by wear. If the pain started after an event such as serving the ball when you developed sudden onset of pain and limitations in range of motion and strength, most likely you have injured your rotator cuff tendon. If, on the other hand, your pain started slow over a prolonged period of time you may have shoulder bursitis or tendonitis. Most of the shoulder injuries can start a basic treatment protocol. Rest for one to two weeks, immediate icing for 20 minutes three times a day, and anti-inflammatory medications for 14 days. Failure to get better with this basic treatment is an indication that you should visit an orthopaedic surgeon. If you noticed that raising your arm causes you to have pain in your shoulder you may have “IMPINGEMENT” or “ROTATOR CUFF” syndrome. This pain is directly a result of your bursae and rotator cuff getting pinched within your shoulder or a partial versus complete tear of your rotator cuff tendon, respectively.

LUXE Manicure | LUXE Pedicure 2 Hours $92 Sports like tennis, golf, racquetball, and weight lifting can also cause you to have impingement of the rotator cuff. The symptoms are pain, pinching, stiffness in your shoulder. Overhead activities aggravate the pain and problem. In other people, you may feel a nagging pain even when you are not using your shoulder. The pain can be located in the anterior or lateral aspect of the shoulder joint, but in some cases it can be nonspecific in location. When you try to elevate your shoulder to the side of your head and it has no strength and drops back down, that usually is a sign that you have a tear in your rotator cuff tendon. The treatment usually allows you to return to tennis or other sports without limitations. Failure to get better will then require your doctor to offer you injections, order MRI scans and even surgery in cases that do not get better. Most patients do not require surgery, most patients get cured with rest, ice, medications and an exercise program to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder joint. Patients with complete rotator cuff tears usually require surgery to be able to return to tennis without pain. Dr. Moya is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in knee and shoulder surgery. He completed his doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, receiving his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Robert Wood Johnson Medical School). Dr. Moya completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Puerto Rico. He practices at the South Florida Institute of Sports Medicine located in Pembroke Pines at 17842 NW 2nd Street, (954) 430-9901 with additional office locations in Weston at 1600 Town Center Blvd., Suite C, (954) 3895900 and Tamarac at 7447 N. Loan Modification vs. Foreclosure – A Dangerous Waiting Game By Omar J. Arcia, Esq. Foreclosure Defense and Consumer Bankruptcy Protection Attorney
M
ost homeowners that are in foreclosure, or even at risk of
foreclosure, attempt to solve their mortgage crisis through self-help. They will submit one loan modification application after another, numerous sets of the supporting documents, and updated financial information in hopes that their lender will respond with a positive result. This process, however, may take months or even years if you choose to do it on your own. Most lenders may not stop the foreclosure process or even a judicial sale of your home just because a loan modification application is under review. In fact, the longer the modification review process takes, the more likely you will be declined, and lose your home through foreclosure. Here are three keys to stop foreclosure proceedings so that you can obtain a loan modification before losing your home. The first key is to consult with professionals that are knowledgeable not only about the loan modification process, but also about the foreclosure process. The Arcia Law Firm has an experienced in-house loss mitigation department with full time loan negotiators, and over 17 years of experience defending foreclosure matters. We are familiar with the valid legal defenses to a foreclosure case in Florida, and also how to properly and legally cancel foreclosure sales.
The longer the modification review process takes, the more likely you will be declined and lose your home through foreclosure. Secondly, the best defense is usually a good offense. As explained in our previous articles, whenever it is appropriate, we will present a counterclaim against lenders within a foreclosure case. This counterclaim usually involves violations of Federal or State laws committed by the original lender that may be attributable to the current lender. Through a valid counterclaim, you may even be entitled to relief from errors committed by your current lender while servicing your loan, such as escrow errors, misapplied or unapplied funds, and overcharges. Placing lenders on the defensive usually slows down the foreclosure process, and provides much needed motivation for lenders to negotiate a loan modification under more reasonable terms. Thirdly, a bankruptcy filing under Chapter 13 not only stops the foreclosure proceedings, but actually provides homeowners with an opportunity for a “second look” at their loan modification application under the all new mediation program available only in South Florida bankruptcy courts. You will be entitled to participate in this program even if your loan modification application has been previously declined. The Arcia Law Firm has an established bankruptcy department with more than 12 years of experience that works alongside its loan negotiators to ensure that a viable loan modification plan is submitted with every bankruptcy petition. Under a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you may also be able to eliminate second mortgages, homeowner’s association and IRS liens, pay off investment properties in five years or less at their current market value, and wipe out credit card and medical debt. In short, a foreclosure is a serious legal matter that can lead to the loss of your home, and a significant money judgment against you if not properly handled by legal professionals. More detailed explanations of different options available to homeowners in foreclosure, at risk of foreclosure, or considering bankruptcy are discussed in a new consumer-friendly DVD developed by the Arcia Law Firm entitled “Fight For Your Home,” available for purchase on our website. If you mention that you heard about the DVD through this magazine you will receive a FREE copy during the appointment to discuss your case in detail with a member of our qualified legal team. If you are struggling to make your monthly mortgage payments, or if you just received a foreclosure summons, contact the Arcia Law Firm today at 954-437-9066 to schedule a free consultation, or visit www.arcialawfirm.com for more information.

The Advantages of Getting a Loan Through a Credit Union By Nancy Rappaport President and CEO of PriorityONE Credit Union of Florida
S
tart your day strong with a delicious cup of
fresh brewed coffee and some credit union facts. Since 1844, credit unions have been known for their great savings and now free checking accounts. However, did you know they offer an array of competitive loan products as well? Whether for a car, a mortgage or home remodel, personal loan or a credit card, chances are you’ll be shopping for a loan at some point. It can be overwhelming. However, knowing the advantages of a credit union loan verses a bank loan can help you make the right decision. If you’ve never used a credit union, you may think they’re the same as banks...not so. Credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives owned by their members. Profits are distributed to members instead of shareholders. This fact makes all the difference. Profits are returned to the members in the form of competitive interest rates on depository accounts and loans.
What are some of the advantages of getting a loan through a credit union? ▸▸ Competitive interest rates-Lower loan rates mean lower monthly payments and less interest paid over the term of the loan
▸▸ Convenience-Apply online, in person or over the phone ▸▸ Fast loan approvals-Local underwriting and processing of loans ▸▸ Common sense approach-You are not just a credit score ▸▸ Flexible loan terms ▸▸ Lower processing fees than banks ▸▸ Excellent member service Many credit unions offer a free auto buying/leasing service to their members. This free service allows credit union members to shop for their dream car without visiting a car dealership. All the hassle and some of the fees are eliminated. It’s simple...you get pre-approved for the auto loan at your credit union, let the car buying/leasing service know exactly what you are looking for, then just sit back and relax. You are in good hands while the service finds the auto for you, negotiate the best deal and deliver it to you at your convenience.
Can I refinance my car loan at a credit union?
Yes, credit unions offer competitive rates, flexible refinancing terms and low processing fees. Refinancing your existing auto loan at a credit union can possibly save you thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. Whatever your reason, your local Credit Union has money to lend and a helping hand to make your dreams come true!

Developmental Pre-School and Kindergarten in Plantation Acres has been educating young minds for nearly three decades with an unique, academic environment. Recently Kathie Geller O’Dwyer, the Owner/ Director of Developmental Pre-School and Kindergarten, answered some commonly asked questions about her school.
Please tell us about your faculty and staff?
The faculty consists of 30 well-trained staff members that are all certified by Child Care Service. Teachers hold a Child Developmental Associate Credential if teaching children up to three years of age. Pre-kindergarten teachers hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. All staff are finger printed and cleared by Child Care Services.

and Kindergarten was created to be an academic, enriching environment for children ages 20 months through 6 years of age. The goal of the school is to build a strong, energetic “learner” who utilizes all his/her senses to glean information and analyze it’s meaning. I sought to return to work as a speech and language pathologist outside the home when my children were two and three years of age. Unable to find a pre-school that would enhance my children’s interest to learn academics and have fun at the same time, I embarked upon the creation of Developmental Pre-School and Kindergarten in order to fulfill this goal.
upon the age of the children, students may attend two, three or five days a week. The academic day runs from 8:30 a.m. though 2:00 p.m. depending on age parameters. Extended day hours are available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Do you offer a summer camp program?
How long have you been in South Florida?
We have been serving the Plantation, Sunrise, Davie and Weston communities for 27 years.
What type of curriculum does Developmental Pre-School & Kindergarten use? DPK utilizes
a curriculum I created called “The Learning Ladder”. This curriculum covers all the different areas of learning in a hierarchy of skills. I was a pioneer in the Child Care industry in implementing a cognitive curriculum of this type.
Please tell us a little bit about the facility?
What sets Developmental Pre-School & Kindergarten apart from other preschools?
DPK is one of the only pre-schools that has classrooms with narrow age parameters, small class size and additional staff to insure exceptional pupil teacher ratios. It is also a pre-school with the owner on the premises to preserve quality control in the learning environment. In addition, DPK boasts an exceptional private Kindergarten that does accept children who may miss the Broward County cut off of September 1st.

The 10,000 square foot, free-standing building is built on three acres of land with plenty of room for active pre-schoolers. There are ten spacious classrooms, a library, music room, gymnasium, Spanish language lab and computer room.
Please tell us about your background. I
hold a Master’s Degree in Speech, Hearing and Language Pathology from Adelphi University. Since graduating in 1972 with my degree, I have taught children with speech and language delays and learning differences in the public schools of New York. I was the Director of Speech and Language Services at Phoenix Day School for
In addition to DPK’s academic year that coincides with the Broward County School calendar, DPK offers a wonderful, action packed Summer Camp called Camp Phoenix, that includes swimming daily in our large, heated swimming pool. Beginning in April, DPK offers swim instruction with a licensed Water Safety instructor that is open to the community.
What else would you like us to know about Developmental Pre-School & Kindergarten?
I feel that I cannot do a better job for my incoming students than I did for my children and grand children. I encourage all interested parents to check out our web site and come on over for a tour. The door is always open at Developmental Pre-School and Kindergarten.
How can parents contact Developmental Pre-School & Kindergarten? For more infor-
mation about Developmental Pre-School and Kindergarten, Camp Phoenix and/or the Dolphin Swim Program, call 954-472-4673. Visit our website at DPK1.COM . We are also on Facebook at facebook.com/dpkpreschool.
