CHISWICK HOUSE LIGHTOPIA

CHISWICK HOUSE

Lightopia opened in the grounds of Chiswick house on 22nd January and continues throughout February. A series of illuminated sculptures all around the gardens create a magical wonderland. Visitors can control some of the extraordinary sculptures using touch pads and drums. Following on from Chinese lantern displays in previous years, the handmade silk installations by Outreach Creative combine ancient techniques of Chinese lantern making with modern technology to create spectacular outdoor show. This year’s display is much more interactive than previous shows. There are 45 groups of light installations, including the Tree of Life centrepiece: a 10m tall sculpture surrounded by 20 drums, which the public can use to change the tree’s colours.

In another part of the grounds there’s a stunning 18m long peacock. Light pulses through its wings in time with the beat of the music. Elsewhere there’s a display of 70,000 individual flickering roses, there are enormous glowing eggs which change colour when rocked, and musical buttons on the ground which create musical light shows when stepped on. The installations have been designed by contemporary artist Ava Moradi, with a mission to create an immersive artistic experience for visitors of all ages, around the theme of Harmony. The event also features acrobats and musicians. For more information: info@lightopiafestival.com
