EDITOR'S LETTER
Welcome Welcome to the June - July issue of Out & About. Summer felt a long time coming this year but now that it’s here there’s an amazing amount of celebratory festivals and things to go out and do in west London. No longer do you have to make the journey into central London and endure the traffic, crowds and expense to see world class entertainment. It’s on your doorstep.
The Lovebox and Citadel music festivals in Gunnersbury Park put us on the map as a place to come to see performers like Skepta and Childish Gambino on the Friday/Saturday and bands like Tame Impala, CHVRCHES and Fat White Family on the Sunday. Besides the main stage at Citadel you will find jazz, blues and brass on the Corona SunSets stage, DJs on the Smirnoff stage, a Science camp, a Kids’ Camp and a whole range of comedy, arts, talks, workshops, food and drink - pages 6 - 9. Serving a different audience, this year’s Bedford Park Festival has acclaimed chef and food writer Rowley Leigh, the multi-award-winning Cory Band, originally a colliery band from the Rhondda Valley, and internationally known violinist David Juritz playing tunes from the golden age of the musical as just a few of the highlights of the two week festival of arts and community events – pages 10 - 11.
West London artists open their homes and studios for a weekend in which you can visit the Artists At Home, appreciate their work and chat to them about it. Photographer Daniel Lewis has created a series of portraits of the artists at work – pages 14- 16. This year sees the 250th anniversary of circus in London, which is being celebrated on Saturdays in Hounslow town centre’s Bell Square – page 24 and by Giffords Circus in the Gardens of Chiswick House – page 26. There’s great live Jazz with Helen Theophanous presenting a tribute to the great composer and arranger Burt Bacharach at 90 at London Auctions and two of the UK’s top jazz vocalists, Shireen Francis and Sarah Moule celebrating two of the greatest jazz singers of all time, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald at George IV – page 19. Arthur Smith, Jo Caulfield and Josh Widdicombe will be among the performers celebrating 25 years of the Ealing Comedy Festival – page 18.

LOVEBOX AND CITADEL FESTIVALS COME TO GUNNERSBURY PARK
It appears that Gunnersbury is becoming trendy! We have proper festivals coming to Gunnersbury Park in July. Proper all-singing, all-dancing, something for all ages, full-on festivals. The Mela has paved the way in September in previous years. Now Lovebox and Citadel are following suit. Previously held in Victoria Park in east London, over several years they have become a big part of the festival scene in London.
Lovebox 13th – 14th July
Back in 2002, electronic music duo Groove Armada and Jools Butterfield were sitting in a pub, lamenting the London parties scene. They were playing gigs and clubs everywhere, but thought there might be a way to put on a different kind of show in London, with more exciting line-ups. It started with a box of records and a pack of Post-its – heart-shaped ones were the only type to hand. The record box became the ‘Lovebox’, which became an album; the first party was thrown in an old strip club off Tottenham Court Road and the rest as they say is history. Lovebox started selling out two weeks in advance with hundreds turning up at the door. A year later, a one day special on
6
Clapham Common for 10,000 people became the start of the Lovebox festivals. The year after the crowd was 20,000. ‘A combination of solid musical reputation and a complete lack of inner London park festivals proved a potent recipe’ say the organisers. Since 2005 Lovebox has been held in Victoria Park, became a two day event and now it’s come to west London. Top of the bill on Friday is English grime artist, rapper, songwriter and record producer Skepta. On Saturday it’s award-winning American writer, actor, singer and rapper Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover, whose video This Is America in a huge hit online. To call it a music video is to do it a disservice. It’s a provocative, politically charged documentary on gun culture and race and the state of society in contemporary America, in four minutes.

FESTIVAL
LOVEBOX’S CHILLED OUT LITTLE SISTER
The day-long festival of music, food, theatre and arts on Sunday 15th July is headlined by Tame Impala. The band’s performance will be a UK exclusive, and will mark their first show in London since their two sold out Alexandra Palace shows in February 2016. Other main acts include Glaswegian trio CHVRCHES, American soul singer Leon Bridges, south London band Fat White Family, with their confrontational brand of postpunk experimental rock and GOAT – ‘the definition of experimental; a mask-wearing, genre-fusing group hailing from Sweden who twist rock (and all its subgenres) on its head in the most bafflingly brilliant of ways’. There are several stages apart from the main stage, with jazz, blues and brass on the Corona SunSets stage, artists including prolific South London artist Kamaal Williams, the ten piece drum and brass powerhouse Old Dirty Brasstards and the award-winning Errol Linton’s Blues Band. The Smirnoff stage features a refreshingly positive number of female DJ’s including ‘first lady of Balearic Beat’ Nancy Noise alongside Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, experimental producer/DJ Nabihah Iqbal (FKA Throwing Shade), acclaimed musician and producer Kelly Lee Owens and Fay Milton of influential punk band Savages taking to the decks.

Then there’s a whole range of comedy, arts, talks, workshops, activities for children and lots of choice of food and drink. The Science Camp returns to Citadel for the second year with an out-of-this-world programme of fun workshops, silly experiments, and stand-up comedy to expand your mind. The Spandex Stage offers exercise instruction and entertainment from London’s most fabulous fitness gurus insisting that you ‘hone your muscles and crunch that core to 80s beats and throwback ballads’. The Kids’ Camp offer the opportunity to make puppets and walk them down the catwalk with the Little Angel Theatre company. Children are invited to create a masterpiece with Picassos in the Park, learn how to be a superhero or create their own music with Ben Gates’ giant percussion garden and interactive sound sculpture.

THE BEDFORD PARK FESTIVAL
THE BEDFORD PARK
Festival
Torin Douglas on two weeks of cultural and community events
Nonesuch Orchestra
The acclaimed chef and food writer Rowley Leigh is appearing at this year’s Bedford Park Festival in Chiswick, speaking about his recipes and love of food. He’ll be in conversation with broadcaster Susannah Simons at 8pm on Monday 11th June. Leigh’s iconic restaurants Kensington Place and Le Cafe Anglais have served great food for 30 years and his columns in the Financial Times have established him as one of our best food writers. His new book "A Great and Messy Business" is arranged by the months, to help celebrate the seasonal nature of cooking. This is just one of the highlights of this year’s two-week Festival of arts and community events. “Chiswick’s favourite fortnight” runs from June 8th to 24th and there’s something for everyone, whatever their age or taste, in aid of charities and the church. The multi-award-winning Cory Band from Treorchy in the Rhondda Valley will be performing in the church on Saturday June 16th (not for nothing does St Michael’s have a Welsh vicar). Founded as a colliery brass band in 1884, it now includes musicians of both sexes and diverse ages and backgrounds, performing a widely varied repertoire of “blockbusting and beautiful” music. By way of contrast, the golden age of the musical is the theme for the annual David Juritz Concert and Supper, on Monday June 14th. The globe-trotting violinist will perform music and songs from Kurt Weill’s Berlin to Leonard Bernstein’s

New York, with singers Claire Bradshaw and Damian Thantrey. After the concert, the entertainment continues over supper in the Parish Hall. Jazz on a Summer’s Night will bring together vocalist Vanessa Rose and the Denis Smith Trio, featuring bass player Sandy Burnett – and Sandy will also perform in Tenor Madness on Wednesday June 13th, improvising on Renaissance and Baroque themes, with pianist and harpsichordist David Gordon and drummer Tom Hooper. The outstanding virtuoso D’Arcy Trinkwon, organist of Worth Abbey and the University of Sussex, will give a lunchtime organ recital in St Michael & All Angels Church on Friday June 8th. The Opera Gala on Friday June 15th features young soprano Milly Forrest, who last year put on Cosi fan tutte in the Festival and later hit the front pages when, at short notice, she stood in for a leading performer at the Wigmore Hall. The Nonesuch Orchestra returns to St Michael & All Angels on Thursday June 21st with two daytime performances of Stravinsky’s ballet Apollon Musagete, designed specifically for a children’s audience, choreographed by Ballet4Life.
Away from the churches, there are two recitals with canapés and prosecco in beautiful Bedford Park houses – one by the soprano Luci de Nordwall Cornish on Thursday June 14th and another by the prize-winning Lithuanian pianist Rokas Valuntonis on Friday June 22nd. Aside from music, the XV Theatre Company led by Christina Balmer returns to the Tabard Theatre, with more than a dozen performances of Perfect Pitch, John Godber’s hilarious comedy set on a caravan site. Writer Yasmin Alibhai-Brown is the special guest in Poems & People on Wednesday June 20th - the annual poetry evening led by Chiswick poets Anne-Marie Fyfe and Cahal Dallat. And Cahal will also be leading a WB Yeats walk to Bedford Park, on Sunday June 17th. The Festival fortnight kicks off on June 9th and 10th with the usual weekend of five-a-side football, live music, funfair, food and drink, children’s corner and an array of stalls. The Green Days church fete and craft fair opposite Turnham Green tube station attracts thousands of people each year and gets the Festival off to a flying start.

COLOUR AND SCENT FROM ANNUALS Osterley Park's Head Gardener, Andy Eddy, tells us how to deliver a burst of colour in the garden over the summer months in his regular column. ‘Here at Osterley one of the easy (and cheap) ways we have for injecting a burst of colour into the garden during the summer months is by using annual flowering plants sown from seed. These are quick to grow and usually very easy to germinate, perfect if you have a greenhouse otherwise a sunny windowsill will do. We always have a huge range of sweet peas which we sow in the autumn and overwinter in our cold frames, this leads to strong root growth and thus the plants get away quickly when we plant them out in the spring and are much less likely to suffer from powdery mildew during dry weather. Of course you can sow them in the spring in pots and then
plant out but the easiest is to direct sow into the ground where you want them to flower. We grow ours up a range of different supports including wooden obelisks made by our handyman painted either dark green for the flower garden or bright yellow for in the vegetable garden and which makes for a good contrast when we use the two varieties ‘Beaujolais’ and ‘Noel Sutton’. We also use hazel poles and ‘pea sticks’ which we cut and store overwinter from our copses in the Great meadow. There are many other annuals that you can grow easily from seed to brighten up a terrace, patio or decking and most of them can also be grown in pots as long as they are kept well-watered and fed monthly. One of the best (and easiest) that we grow is Spanish Flag – Ipomoea lobata which as its name suggests has bright orange, red and yellow flowers in the colours of the national flag of Spain. This will eventually grow to a height of more than 3m so it is good to cover a new fence or disguise a wheelie bin storage area. We use hundreds of different annuals every year at Osterley to provide colour and scent and are a great way to add drama to a garden’.

They attracted a huge crowd eager to meet the artists, to see working studios and to purchase paintings at studio prices.
Nowadays open studios are ubiquitous but at that time it was a novel way for artists to make their work accessible to the public. The artists even got a grant of ÂŁ5 from Hammersmith Council for tea and biscuits.
Jonathan Mercer
Over the years Artists at Home has expanded and now covers an area of about three square miles taking in defined parts of Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush and Chiswick. It has become a tradition for Artists At Home to take place over the third weekend in June following Green Days which opens the Bedford Park Festival, and it is now a highlight in the cultural calendar of West London.

ARTISTS AT HOME One regular visitor sums up the spirit of the weekend
“I always look forward to Artists at Home – friendly, intimate surroundings in which to enjoy and learn more about beautiful works of art and have the privilege of chatting to the artists who created them”. Diana Everett
Meeting artists in their natural habitat Going to an open studio is a very different experience from entering a commercial art gallery, where the makers are often invisible. The ‘studio’ might be a living-room, a dedicated room in the house, the garage or a garden studio. People really enjoy meeting the artists and learning about the techniques. The photographer Daniel Lewis, has made several portraits showing a few of our artists in their natural habitat. Painter Ben Johnson in his studio at Chiswick Mall, weaver Bobbie Jociejowski at her flat in Hammersmith, Diana Everett on her houseboat and Rennie Pilgrem in his back garden shed / studio give an idea of the variety of locations where they work.
Admission is free, and there is no pressure to buy, though many people do, whether it is a post-card, a print, a serious piece of art or a commission. Some visitors linger, others are eager to get to the next studio. The Artists at Home website - www.artistsathome.co.uk makes it easy for visitors to navigate their way around the studios, making selections from painters, sculptors, printmakers, ceramicists, jewellers, photographers, glassworkers, textile designers, and multi-media artists. As well as this broad range of disciplines, there is a diverse range of styles, by long-established artists to newly-emerged. There is also a printed version of the studio guide available from outlets throughout the boroughs.

The Ealing Comedy Festival celebrates 25 years
IRA car bomb
Michael McIntyre, Ricky Gervais, Lee Mack, Harry Hill, Dara O’Brien, Bill Bailey, Julian Clary – name any of Britain’s top stand-up comics and the chances are they’ve appeared at the Ealing Comedy Festival. Celebrating 25 years this summer, the organiser Simon Randall always tries to bring audiences performers they know and introduce them to new ones they don’t. His record of booking people ‘on the way up’ is pretty impressive, so the chances are there will be somebody in this year’s line-up who in a few years’ time when you can’t get a ticket to see them, or can no longer afford to see them, you will be able to say you saw first in a big tent in Walpole Park W5.
Recalling the highs and the lows of the last 25 years Simon remembers the IRA car bomb of 2001, which went off outside Ealing Broadway station just after midnight, injuring seven people and causing extensive damage. “John Cooper Clarke was on stage and had he finished ten minutes earlier there would have been seven or eight hundred people streaming past there.” They heard the bomb go off in the tent and he says they were lucky that nobody was killed.
Simon, who has run the Headliners Comedy Club in Chiswick for the past 15 years, started out as ‘Ha Bloody Ha’ organising gigs at the Viaduct in Hanwell and at Ealing Studios. He was at the Ealing Jazz Festival one summer and thought he might as well see if Ealing Council would let him have a marquee for a night to put on comedy as well. The original tent, which seated 200, became the beer tent and the festival now takes place in a marquee which seats 11,000 people. The opening act on the first night back in 1993 was Harry Hill (who called himself Harry Hall in those days).
The comedy festival is just one of eight Ealing festivals spanning music, comedy and culture, including: Greenford Carnival (June 30), Ealing Beer Festival (July 11 – 15), Acton Carnival (July 14), Ealing Comedy Festival (July 19 – 27), Ealing Blues Festival (July 21 – 22), and Ealing Jazz Festival (July 28 – 29).

A SUMMER OF JAZZ
A Summer OF JAZZ
Summertime, now it seems finally to have arrived, is a great time for jazz in west London, with some of the capital’s finest jazz acts on this summer in Chiswick. By Larry Pryce
Noted jazz vocalist Helen Theophanous and the Geoff Castle Trio present the music of the great composer and arranger Burt Bacharach on June 6th.
Acclaimed as music's “Greatest Living Composer” in 2008 by The Recording Academy, Burt Bacharach continues to compose and to tour worldwide. For this unique show, Helen and the band will be presenting many of the most loved Bacharach compositions with some very special jazz arrangements. The concert will include much loved numbers such as the controversial “Hey Little Girl” (Highly un-PC lyrics: "Hey, little girl, Comb your hair, fix your make-up. Soon he will open the door. Don’t think because There’s a ring on your finger, You needn’t try any more”) together with “A House Is Not A Home” and “Alfie” among many others. Wednesday June 6th at 8.00pm.
Thursday June 28th two of the UK’s top jazz vocalists, Shireen Francis and Sarah Moule celebrate two of the greatest jazz singers of all time, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald in a special show entitled, “When Peggy Met Ella”.
With accompaniment from the hugely talented pianist Simon Wallace and acclaimed bassist Neville Malcolm, the singers will be performing some of the greatest songs of the 20th century, from the understated purr of “Black Coffee” to the infectious swing of “Cheek To Cheek”, exploring how Peggy and Ella’s turbulent lives shaped their singing careers. Thursday June 28th at 7.30pm. The Boston Room at the George IV, 185 Chiswick High Road, W4 2DR. Tickets on Eventbrite. £10 in advance (£8 for Chiswick Calendar Club Card holders) & £12 on the door.

UNIVERSITY OF WEST LONDON
MAKING THE APPRENTICESHIP LEVY WORK IN YOUR BUSINESS The government pays for up to 90% of the cost of training apprentices for small and medium sized companies, meaning they represent an outstanding investment for businesses keen to improve performance, or take success to the next level.
If you want to drive success at your business, then hiring apprentices and training them at The University of West London (UWL) – The Career University - could be the perfect method. Work-based training is a powerful tool for adding value to operations. It up-skills staff, can bolster loyalty and brings the latest theory and best practice into the working environment. Investing in an apprentice also doesn’t need to be expensive and UWL is here to make the process as easy as possible for employers.
Apprentices are required to work 20% of their study hours ‘off the job’ and the University of West London is the ideal place to do this part of the training. UWL has received funding from the Education and Skills funding Agency to help SMEs hire apprentices. We can help companies hire apprentices by making the process of recruiting almost seamless. We also provide apprentices with a full induction programme about their study programme, which we develop in close collaboration with the employer. Other benefits for employers include the opportunity to enrol existing employees in our apprenticeship programmes, so they can be more highly skilled, more motivated and more engaged at work. We offer a wide portfolio of full and part-time higher apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships and have
10 years’ experience in delivering programmes. Our highly qualified teaching staff often have relevant industry backgrounds. UWL is rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, recognising the quality of our provision. Apprenticeships we currently offer include: IT Professional Degree Apprenticeship, Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, Data Analyst level 4, Cyber Security Technologist, Nursing Associate, Health Assistant Practitioner and Health Assistant Practitioner with Dementia Care. From September this year our offering will expand to include Degree Apprenticeships covering the following subjects: Express Logistics Manager, Registered Nurse, Civil Engineer, Embedded Electronic Systems Design, Development Engineer and Project Manager, as well as an IT Professional Masters and Senior Manager Masters.

'Burbs
Sunday lunch, good steak, decent beer, nice peaceful green surroundings, safe play area for the kids. Sounds like a country pub. Tastes like a country pub. But actually you don’t have to drive an hour to get there and get stuck in weekend returning traffic on the way back… It’s what editors of glossy travel mags like to call a ‘hidden gem’. The Hare & Hounds pub in Osterley is a country pub transported to the middle of the London suburbs. Opposite the beautifully landscaped gardens of the National Trust’s Osterley Park, it’s tucked away from the noise and fumes of London, just three mini roundabouts away from Gillette Corner on the Great West Rd. So near and yet so far. Perfect for a family occasion. The pub’s friendly host Chris Bosse offers a premium grill and Fullers beer and a large beer garden with an outside barbecue at weekends, where now that summer’s on its way you can keep one eye on the kids in the play area while savouring a pint. He is proud of the way his staff looks after customers and particularly recommends the Sunday roast.

ENTERTAINMENT IN BELL SQUARE If you happen to come across youths doing crazy contortions in shopping trolleys in Bell Square in Hounslow town centre, they’re not hooligans, they’re performing artists. There’s a difference (one gets arrested, the other gets applause). Bell Square London, the outdoor art festival based in Hounslow, is now in its fifth year. On Saturdays from May to December you will find a mix of dance, theatre, music and circus drawn from a diverse mix of cultures and styles being performed in the square, just off the shopping centre. The events, which are free, are designed for all ages to enjoy.
Part dance. Part ballet. Five guys on supermarket trolleys perform an extraordinary outdoor spectacle.
Saturday 16th June, 1.00pm & 3.00pm Sur Mesure: Fillage
Saturday 30th June, 3.00pm & 9.30pm Cie Dyptik: D-Construction
D-Construction is a thrilling and energetic hip-hop dance performance with an infectious beat.
Saturday 14th July, 9.45pm Insectotropics: Legend of the Burning Man
The Legend of Burning Man is a poetic journey, based on real events. The story of a man whom everyone has heard of, who precipitated the Arab Spring, but nobody knows his name. Insectotròpics use video art, painting, theatre, live music and performance merge into a brutal and explosive multimedia show on a 360° stage.
“This year is the 250th anniversary of the birth of circus in London – and we’ll join in the national celebrations throughout the year with our own programme of contemporary circus at Bell Square” Says Jan Lennox, Director of the programme of events.

SUMMER AT CHISWICK HOUSE
Summer
AT CHISWICK HOUSE Georgianna, Duchess of Devonshire, requests the pleasure of your company
Chiswick House is throwing a party this summer and all are welcome. The Palladian house was renowned for its parties in its Georgian heyday, with exotic animals such as giraffes and elephants shipped in for the delectation of the lords and ladies and rare species such as the camellia imported from China for the ladies’ corsages. The proceedings this summer may not be quite so lavish as those put on by the famous party giver Georgianna, Duchess of Devonshire but Chiswick House promises ‘a weekend of music, dancing, food and drink, historical talks, storytelling and more’ in her name at Chiswick House estate from 12.00 – 5.00pm on Sunday 8th July.
Giffords Circus
Giffords Circus is performing in My Beautiful Circus in the grounds of Chiswick House from Thursday 28th June 2018 – Monday 9th July. Giffords is a small, traditional family circus based in the Cotswolds and will be celebrating ‘the most bonkers, surprising, diverse and life affirming art form there is’ with a magical show incorporating acrobatics, juggling, humour and story-telling. “Utterly brilliant fun, uplifting show” – Dara O’Brien.
Kitchen Garden Open Day
Chiswick House has a kitchen garden whose history goes back to the days of Charles II. Lovingly restored in recent years, the garden is tended now by volunteers who sell their produce from the garden. On Sunday 24th June the garden will be open from 11.00am4.00pm for visitors to come and see and chat to the gardeners and the bee-keepers.
The Tempest
Let’s hope the English weather doesn’t try and provide an authentic backdrop for The Tempest by William Shakespeare, presented in the Gardens by the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, in full Tudor regalia. Bring a chair and a picnic and enjoy the soaring poetry, high comedy, tender love and bitter vengeance in one of Shakespeare’s finest plays. 7.30pm on Thursday 12th July.

WHERE IN THE WORLD?
WHERE IN THE
World?
Embroidery project shows west London’s worldwide roots
There are people living in and around Chiswick from all over the world. It would be a fair guess to say that, given the population of London, but we now have the evidence, not in black and white but in silk thread, in shades of dark red and gold.
all over Europe and places as far flung as Siberia and New Zealand, Nigeria and the Cayman Islands. Organiser Karen Liebreich says: “in this current period of insular voices and inward-looking gazes this kind of project celebrates our openness and our connections to the rest of the world”.
Chiswick without Borders
Chiswick in Ceramic
For the last three months a team of Chiswick embroiderers has been working on a huge cotton map of the world created by Ekta Kaul, an award winning local textile artist and designer, to illustrate where in the world local people have their family roots. The project was launched as a community art project by the team from Abundance London who created the Chiswick Timeline mural in Turnham Green Terrace. At the launch event for the Timeline people were invited to pin an image of a swallow, a symbolic migratory bird, on to the fabric at their family’s place of origin and attach a thread symbolising their journey to west London. Since the project was launched at the end of January a team of volunteer embroiderers have been making permanent the criss-crossing journeys from
L@outandabout_mag
The Abundance London team started a second community participation art project at the launch of the Timeline. Architect Svetlana Kuznetsova created six of Chiswick’s main landmarks in stunning ceramic – Christ Church, the Russian church, Chiswick Park tube station, St Michael’s, Voysey House, Chiswick House. Meanwhile Kathleen Tuffy and Tanya Saunders oversaw the mass production of hundreds of tiny ceramic houses. With the help of most of the Chiswick primary schools and visitors to the Timeline launch, they created a 3D map of Chiswick in ceramic. The two community art projects will be on show at London Auctions, 30-34 Chiswick High Road, W4 1TE 6-10 June 2018 (during opening hours, free entry)

HEN CORNER
HEN CORNER
Jelly ON THE TELLY
Sara Ward rises to the dizzy heights of celebrity chef If you are among the many who love a good foodie show on television, you may have seen Hen Corner recently on BBC Two’s Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge.
The amount of interest in artisan food is increasing. People are curious to discover the provenance of their food and want to have confidence in it. Techniques such as preserving, fermenting, curing, etc. are practices which have been passed down through generations to allow us to store fresh food for longer periods of time, develop new flavours and textures and enjoy a varied diet throughout the year and to celebrate the seasons with feasting. This show looks at a different category of food each episode, bread, cheese, meat, drinks, and more and showcases four artisan food producers, exploring how they source their ingredients, develop their recipes, make their product and take it to market. While we make a whole range of food products here at Hen Corner, we decided to focus on preserves, one of the first things we started to produce. We chose to feature our Apple and Chilli Jelly, which utilises the pulp by-product from our annual Cider Sunday celebrations.
We tried to convey the versatility of our jelly by offering samples on sausages, crackers and cheese cubes; we whisked up a simple salad dressing using a spoon of jelly with oil, vinegar, salt and pepper and even invited customers to try it on a scoop of ice cream! It was a privilege to take part and we were especially delighted to discover that our product achieved the highest sales in the shop while we were there.
A judge came to Hen Corner to find out how we made it, then we took a case of it to a farm shop in Yorkshire to showcase alongside three other fantastic products: Louise’s Filipino Papaya Pickle, Linzi & Jason’s handmade Crunchy Peanut Butter and Pam & Emily’s Runner Bean Chutney.
You can catch BBC Two’s Top of the Shop on iPlayer until 11th June. 28
