PICKYBits
Picky Bits is an independent catering company specialising in grazing platters and show stopping buffets for any occasion.
“I began my journey working with food back in 2015 after a trip to Australia led me to discover raw cake (but that’s another story!) I moved my cake production into a social club kitchen and was required to do the in-house catering and Picky Bits was born. The business shot to local fame during lockdown when we not only delivered hundreds of grazing boxes all
around Surrey but also headed up a Cater for Carers campaign raising money for ingredients and donating our time to make and deliver meals to Epsom Hospital staff.
Picky Bits new sandwich and coffee shop is now open on Ewell bypass and is so far, a sell out success!
As well as keeping the catering jobs going in the kitchen we have a shop front selling amazing sandwiches, delicious coffee and homemade cakes.

TADWORTH ART GROUP
‘How many ‘Vote for your favourite painting’ slips do we need?’. ‘And who’s got the labels?’ ‘We can’t run an art exhibition if the punters can’t see who painted what!’
This is how it starts. And what ends up as an exciting, well-organised event invariably begins with a thousand questions.
Like, ‘Do we really need Public Liability Insurance?’ ‘Well, if the Lady Mayoress slips on a discarded vol-au-vent, throws her red wine all over a sweet old granny’s best dress, while careering into the Mayor, who, in turn, is catapulted headfirst into a £300 painting of a clown, then YES, we definitely do.’
Luckily, Tadworth Art Group has been fielding these questions, and finding the right solutions, for over 50 years and, so far, has never ended up with the Lady Mayoress skidding across the hall or the Mayor looking like a clown.
And, with over 200 original paintings on display, TAG’s reputation as being one of the finest art groups in the country is well-founded. Runners-up in a recent Leisure Painter ‘Art Club of the Year’ nationwide competition, for example, and including artists who regularly exhibit at the Mall Galleries as members of the Royal Institution and the Society of Women Artists, their exhibition is not one to be missed.
17th June, Horley Recreation Ground
Join in the fun this June at the 11th annual Horley Carnival from 12.00pm - 5.00pm. This year’s theme is The Natural World, so they are looking forward to seeing some interesting floats around the theme. They will be bringing some of the countryside into Horley through two main arena acts: Huxleys Birds of Prey return, but with a full display in the Arena and Misselchalke Gun Dog Display. Both will also have static displays where you can meet the birds and dogs up close.
The parade will start leaving the Victoria Road car park at 12.30 pm, travelling along the same route as previous years, turning into Massetts Road, Russells Crescent, then north up Victoria Road, and turning right into Brighton Road and left into the
Recreation Ground. One of the bands taking part in the parade will be performing in the Precinct before the arrival of the parade.
There will be the usual selection of community and commercial stalls along with a range of food and drink outlets for you to enjoy.
Beach’s Funfair will be back and will be open from the Friday evening and they have kindly organised a firework display which will take place after dark on Saturday evening. This whole event will be free to enter.
So, make a note of the date in your diary and join in the sights and sounds of the Horley Carnival.

EpsomDERBY FESTIVAL
Friday 2nd - Saturday 3rd June
The Espom Derby takes place this June. Enjoy racing’s most spectacular carnival with two unmissable daysFriday 2nd - Saturday 3rd June 2023.
The Epsom Derby is one of the greatest race days and social occasions of the British summer calendar. It is the birthplace of thoroughbred racing, having taken place each June since 1779. From the thrill of the hill to the iconic pageantry and sideshows sharing a stage.
The opening day, Friday 2nd June, known as Ladies Day, is a day like no other. Join in around 50,000 racegoers, dressed in their best, in the picturesque Surrey countryside for a spectacular day of champagne, fine dining, exceptional hospitality and horse racing.
The feature race of day one, the Group 1 Oaks, is a fillies-only Classic run over the same course and distance as the Coronation Cup and Derby. Alongside the QIPCO 1000 Guineas run at Newmarket and the Ladbrokes St Leger in York, these three races make up the fillies’ Triple Crown.
Saturday June 3rd is Derby Day. Enjoy nail-biting drama and history in the making. “Welcome to the greatest show on turf.”
Epsom Derby is a Group 1 flat horse race in England open to three-year-old colts and fillies. It is run at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on the first Saturday of June each year, over a distance of one mile, four furlongs and 6 yards (2,420 metres). It was first run in 1780.
The Derby Family Festival is a ticketed enclosure on The Hill. It will be in a new location for 2023, closer to the action on the racetrack. There will be plenty of family fun with the return of the main stage and a new food festival. Selected rides will be free within this enclosure. Picnics are welcome within this area, and you can bring foldable chairs and tables, too.

The Nick Ross Orchestra
Sunday 7th May at 5.00pm
Tickets £24.50 Pass Card £23
The lights soften, the mood settles. An audience waits for that first moment of sound. The Big Band is poised, relaxed, but with eyes anxious for the lead. And then, as if giving body to an echo, the murmured notes of ‘Moonlight Serenade’… and the night, it seems, is suddenly full and timeless.
There are those who watch and listen who tap a shy finger to the melodies, others who follow with a silent foot-beat, still others who murmur softly through the lyrics, and those who simply permit a fleeting smile. But common to all are memories.
Recapture the sounds of a bygone era.

LimoncelloMOJITO
Lemon cocktails
This limoncello cocktail is an alternative to a Mojito, a classic cocktail that originates from Havana, Cuba! The origins of this cocktail are a little vague: some say it was first created in the 1500’s, others claim the 1800’s when the Bacardi rum company was created. Its place as an iconic cocktail was solidified by the 1930’s when Ernest Hemingway helped to popularize it. This limoncello spin simply adds in the delicious Italian liqueur.
INGREDIENTS
• 3 mint leaves, plus more for garnish
• 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) lime juice
• ½ ounce (1 tablespoon) sugar syrup
• 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) limoncello
• 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) white rum
• 4 ounces soda water
• Ice, for serving
METHOD
1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and sugar syrup.
2. Add the limoncello and rum and fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until cold.
3. Fill a hurricane or highball glass with ice, then strain in the liquid.
4. Top off the glass with soda water. Garnish with additional mint leaves and a slice of lemon or lime.
TOP TIP:
• The main skill you need to know to make this limoncello cocktail is how to muddle. What’s muddling? Muddling is gently mashing herbs or fruits to release their juices. This helps the flavours incorporate better than if you just threw a mint sprig right into the drink. For this recipe muddle the mint in a cocktail shaker!
• Use a hurricane glass or a highball glass for serving
• Add a mint sprig - it looks great!
• Serve with clear ice for a stunning drink.
Why buy? When you can rent.
More retirees than ever are choosing to rent because it o ers flexibility and a better quality of life. People are living longer and looking to prioritise their health and wellbeing …and stay independent.
Before you jump to buy… explore
No service charges, nor exit fees. You simply pay an
(see below) and a one-o joining fee.
WHY BUY? WHEN YOU COULD RENT.
The UK is fast becoming a rental market – especially for retirees. Renting in retirement is becoming more and more popular because it offers all the benefits of independent living without any of the stress of owning a house. Not only is there no need for stamp duty costs or legal fees when you move in, but you can also wave goodbye to those day-to-day maintenance commitments, like building repairs and mowing your lawn.
At Birchgrove our high-quality assisted living apartments are solely for rent – no pressure to buy once you move in. There are no lengthy contracts or confusing small print. If you rent at Birchgrove, you only need to give two months’ notice should you wish to leave. This is how confident we are that you will love your move to Birchgrove.
Our modern apartments are offered with assured tenancies (for those making Birchgrove their main home), and people appreciate both the security and flexibility this provides.
This agreement entitles you to stay in your home for as long as you wish - should you choose - without any fear of being turned out. It also provides security of tenure - the same level of security as home ownership, but without the hassle.* (Subject to terms and conditions).
The current concern impacting most households is the rising cost of living. Prices for energy, food, water, and household goods are rocketing. At Birchgrove, you don’t have any of the headaches or hassles associated with the above. This is because we have one inclusive rent to give you complete control of your expenditure.
The Birchgrove rental model covers the large-ticket
expenses like energy costs - electricity, heating and water - and many of the rising incidental costs that go along with owning your own home eg housekeeping, broadband, window cleaning, gardening, buildings insurance, security and a whole host of other things.
We don’t charge service charges, nor do we charge exit fees. All you pay is the rent and a one-off joining fee.
Resident Jan, 84, relays why she moved to Birchgrove:
“When I was considering moving to a retirement village, it was to buy. I didn’t know any different as most places I knew were to buy. I’d not really heard about renting before.
“When I found Birchgrove and discovered it was to rent, I spoke to my daughter and she thought it a much better idea. It’s much easier and you don’t have the problem of your family having to sell something when you go. My life is so much more enjoyable.”

Seaton House is an incredibly special place with a family environment created by everyone working together with one single aim; to support our children and help them to become the very best version of themselves! Recently awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools, our assessor reported “this is genuinely a community where everyone knows everyone else, cares about their wellbeing and notices when people need support and are willing to offer it”.
Courtesy and kindness are expected as the norm and our exceptional team of staff encourage our girls to develop initiative, independence, resilience and confidence.
Seaton House is currently ranked 2nd in the Sunday Times Top 100 Prep School in England and it is no coincidence that our girls leave us to attend the very best schools in the area with many girls receiving multiple school offers.
Specialist teachers provide creative and innovative
teaching to students across the school and outstanding academic results are achieved yearon-year. Our most recent ISI inspection found us ‘Excellent’ across all areas.
Fees are very competitive as reported by £/ Schoolsmith Score, who stated that we “offer the best value for money” of Prep schools in Sutton. 15 hours Early Years funding can be accepted in Nursery.
Being a small school with just 20 girls per class, our staff will get to know every child individually, learning their strengths and challenges to ensure every child thrives in all areas of school life.
Wraparound care operates from 7.30am – 6pm and an in-house holiday club runs in the major holidays. A wide-ranging choice of extra-curricular clubs are offered on a daily basis.
To best understand what a friendly, caring and vibrant school we are, come and meet us and let our pupils tell you themselves what makes us so special.
