Guachimontones Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad de la UNESCO

En 2006, el complejo arqueológico ‘Los Guachimontones’ fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad de la UNESCO, esta decisión fue tomada por el Comité de la Unesco durante la reunión de ese mismo año en su sede en Vilna (Lituania) Con maravillosas estructuras en forma de círculos concéntricos utilizados para adorar a sus dioses, el antiguo asentamiento prehispánico Guachimontones abarca 90 hectáreas y se encuentra en la ciudad y municipio de Teuchitlán, Jalisco.

¿Cómo llegar? Si viajas en auto, el camino más fácil para llegar a Guachimontones es tomando la carretera Puerto Vallarta – Tepic, pasando el municipio de Mascota, y una hora después al este del municipio de Ameca. El costo estimado de traslado en auto saliendo de Puerto Vallarta es de $500 y te toma aproximadamente cuatro horas. Te recomendamos ampliamente usar un calzado que sea cómodo. El Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia da la bienvenida a las personas que quieran visitar el sitio arqueológico de martes a domingo de 09:00 a 17:00 horas. 10

Guachimontones

El complejo arqueológico de Guachimontones también está conformado por patios circulares, dos canchas en donde solía practicarse el juego de pelota, un anfiteatro y algunas terrazas y edificios menores. Se piensa que la comunidad se sentaba en estos recintos para bailarle a sus dioses elementales (viento, agua, fuego, tierra). Hacia la derecha, hay un manantial sagrado que se utilizaba para regar a los jardines.

¿Porqué ir a Guachimontones? El apogeo de este asentamiento fue entre los años 200 y 400 d. C. y su caída se produjo hacia el 900 d.C. En 2006, el complejo arqueológico ‘Los Guachimontones’ fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad de la UNESCO y esta decisión fue tomada por el Comité de la Unesco durante la reunión de ese mismo año en su sede en Vilna (Lituania). Los trabajos de investigación en Guachimontones no están terminados, el lugar está siendo reestructurado y comenzando un místico renacer para todos los que quieran admirar la belleza de uno de los más importantes hallazgos de la arqueología occidental de Mesoamérica.

Guachimontones UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity

With wonderful circle formed structures where a complex society that existed from as early as 300 BCE until perhaps 900 CE used to worship their gods, the pre-Hispanic settlement Guachimontones covers 90 acres and is located in the city and municipality of Teuchitlán, Jalisco, approximately one hour west of the city of Guadalajara and 4 hours east of Puerto Vallarta.

How to get to Guachimontones?

If you travel by car, the easiest way to get to Guachimontones is by taking the Puerto Vallarta - Tepic road, passing the Mascota municipality, and an hour later east of the Ameca municipality. The estimated cost of transfer by car departing from Puerto Vallarta is $500 and the road takes around 4 hours.

The place

We highly recommend wearing shoes that are comfortable. The National Institute of Anthropology and History welcomes people who want to visit the archeological site from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The entrance costs $70.00 and includes access to the following areas: • Central altar • Elevated circular courtyard surrounding the altar • A circular bench that surrounds the patio • Between eight and twelve rectangular platforms on the bench • A museum with examples of underground burial crypts below the living area • Handicraft shop The architectural style of this ceremonial center is very peculiar; a perfect circle rises from the largest enclosure, its structure contains layers that form an exact 52-year calendar, you cannot climb them but there are platforms arounds where you can stand to observe the surroundings. The archaeological complex of Guachimontones is also made up of circular courtyards, two courts where the ball game used to be practiced, an amphitheater, some terraces and smaller buildings. It is thought that the community sat in these enclosures to dance to their elemental gods (wind, water, fire, and earth). To the right, there is a sacred spring that was used to water the gardens.

Why Guachimontones? The rise of this ancient culture occurred between the years 200 and 400 AD. C. and its end had place around 900 AD. In 2006, the archeological complex â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Los Guachimontonesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this decision was taken by the Unesco Committee during the same year meeting at its headquarters in Vilnius (Lithuania). The research in Guachimontones is not finished yet, the place is being restructured and it is also beginning a mystical rebirth for all those who want to admire the enigmatic beauty of one of the most important findings of the western archeology of Mesoamerica.

Tequila Jalisco Pueblo mágico, lleno de sabores y sensaciones.

Este colorido pueblo te da la impresión de que todo lo que ves y lo que tocas es artesanal. En sus numerosas casas tequileras podrás catar sabores que duraron hasta 5 años en una barrica para morir en cuestión de segundos en tu paladar.

¿Cómo llegar? Desde Puerto Vallarta, toma aproximadamente cuatro horas y media en auto llegar a Tequila, comenzando la ruta por la vía Puerto Vallarta – Tepic. El costo aproximado es entre $400 y $500. Si prefieres tomar un autobús ve a la estación Autotransportes Medina en Calle Brasil 1410, Colonia 5 de diciembre con destino a la estación de autobuses “Vallarta Plus” ubicada en Bucerías Nayarit. En la estación de Bucerías toma el primer autobús hacia Zapopan y una vez ahí, toma un taxi que te lleve directo a Tequila. Este recorrido en autobús dura aproximadamente 5 horas y el costo de los traslados es de aproximadamente $1,000 en total.

La experiencia La clave está en pasear por el pueblo mágico, disfrutar su ambiente festivo y adentrarse en sus callejones en donde se puedes probar mil y un sabores en su comida típica y sus famosos “cantaritos” que son jarritos de barro que contienen bebidas de todo tipo como palomas, micheladas, cerveza o mezcal con jugo de fruta.

Duerme en un barril de tequila Solamente en México podría existir algo así, un hotel en el que puedes dormir dentro de un barril de tequila. El hotel se llama Matices, Hotel de Barricas y se ubica en Hacienda La Cofradía, lugar en donde se fabrica el tequila y se conservan más de 2,000 barricas de esta bebida. Las 34 habitaciones son réplicas de barriles y en lugar de tener jardines alrededor, hay agaves, la planta de la cual se extrae el tequila. Además de las comodidades y amenidades, cada habitación tiene una temática diferente y cuenta con detalles únicos, como sus murales internos que hacen alusión a las marcas del tequila que nace en la hacienda.

La hacienda “La Cofradía” también cuenta con un restaurante llamado La Taberna del Cofrade, ubicado a más de cuatro metros bajo tierra y con una propuesta gastronómica inspirada en la comida tradicional de de los Estados de: Michoacán, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Tamaulipas y Nayarit. El menú es digno de un paladar exigente y cuenta con un área privada muy romántica para cenar en pareja.

Cuando la piña está bien cocida, se muele para extraer sus jugos y azucares los cuales se fermentan y se convierten en alcohol y lo que se obtiene se destila para quitar las impurezas, separar el agua de la bebida y así obtener el tequila blanco listo para embotellarse. Para obtener los tequilas: reposados, añejos y extra añejos, en lugar de embotellarse, se dejan en barricas para que comiencen su proceso de maduración. Toma un periodo de tiempo entre 10 meses y hasta 5años para obtener el color y el sabor perfecto.

¿Cómo se obtiene el tequila? El dicho que dice que, si un tequila no es fabricado en Jalisco, ¡No se le puede llamar tequila! Es verdad… Solamente Jalisco y otros cuatro Estados tienen la denominación de origen para producirlo. El staff de Matices Hotel de Barricas te sumerge en una experiencia única en la que terminas como un verdadero catador y con conocimientos sobre la fabricación de esta mística bebida. El tequila proviene de un tipo de agave color azul que tarda de seis a siete años en madurar, cuando el agave está listo pasa a manos de los jimadores para el proceso de cosecha y así obtener la figura ovalada mejor conocida como piña. Al obtenerla se mete a cocer a los hornos por 40 horas.

Tequila, Jalisco

This colorful town gives you the impression that everything you see, and touch is handmade. In its many tequila houses you can taste flavors that lasted up to five years in a barrel only to die within seconds on your palate.

The 34 rooms are barrel replicas and instead of having gardens around, there are agaves, the plant from which tequila is extracted and that allows the guests to enjoy the fresh air mixed with its rich and distinctive aromas.

How to get to Tequila?

In addition to the comforts and amenities, each room has a different theme and unique details, such as its internal murals that allude to the brands born on the boutique Mexican hotel.

From Puerto Vallarta, it takes approximately four and a half hours (by car) to get to Tequila, via the Puerto Vallarta - Tepic road. The approximate cost is between $400 and $500 MXN. If you prefer to take a bus, go to the Autotransportes Medina station on Calle Brasil 1410, Colonia 5 de diciembre, that goes to Bucerías, Nayarit. At Bucerías station, take the first bus to Zapopan and once there, take a taxi that will take you directly to Tequila. The trip via bus will take approximately five hours and the cost of each transfer is between $200 and $250 MXN, so you’re looking at a total cost of about $500 MXN.

The experience The key to get the full experience is to walk through the magical town, enjoying its festive atmosphere and enter its alleys where you can taste thousands of flavors in its typical food, candies and its famous “cantaritos” (clay jars that contain all kinds of drinks such as palomas - tequila with lemon soda- micheladas, beer or mezcal with fruit juice).

Sleep in a tequila barrel Something that could exist only in Mexico, a hotel where you can sleep inside a tequila barrel! The hotel, Matices, Hotel de Barricas (owned by the Hacienda Tequilera La Cofradía, a distillery and boutique hotel) is found in the heart of tequila country, where tequila is produced and more than 2,000 barrels of this drink are preserved.

Hacienda “La Cofradía” also has a restaurant called La Taberna del Cofrade, located more than 13 feet underground and offering a menu inspired by the traditional food of the states of: Michoacán, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Tamaulipas and Nayarit . The gastronomic offer is worthy of a demanding palate and has a very romantic private area for couples.

How is Tequila made? The saying “if a tequila is not produced in Jalisco, it cannot be called tequila” is true ... Only Jalisco and four other states have the designation of origin to produce it. The staff of the hotel immerses you in a unique experience in which you end up as a true taster and with knowledge about the entire production process of this mystical drink. The tequila comes from a blue colored agave that takes six to seven years to ripen, when the agave is ready it passes to the jimador, an agave farmer, to obtain the oval figure better known as pineapple. Upon obtaining it, it goes into the oven for more than 40 hours. When the pineapple is well cooked, it is ground to extract its juices and sugars which are fermented and converted into alcohol. What is obtained is distilled to remove the impurities and separate the water from the white tequila ready to be bottled. To obtain different types of tequila such as the rested, aged or extra aged, instead of bottling, it is left in barrels to begin its maturity process and it takes a period of time between 10 months and up to five years to get the perfect color and taste.

Zapopan

Lugar de fe y tradición

Zapopan, recientemente apodada como Ciudad de los Niños es un municipio que forma parte de la zona metropolitana de Guadalajara y se encuentra a cuatro horas en auto desde Puerto Vallarta. Su nombre proviene del vocablo náhuatl Tzapopan o lugar poblado de zapotes, éste último es el nombre que se le da a una fruta de la región. La plaza principal de Zapopan se llama La Plaza de Las Américas pero también se le conoce como la Plaza de Juan Pablo II en honor al ex pontífice, que en 1979 visitó la basílica de Zapopan ubicada justo al frente de la Plaza. En esa misma zona, durante el día, hay muchos puestos ambulantes donde se pueden encontrar souvenirs, ropa, caballos de tequila, cientos de imágenes religiosas y en particular globos típicos que hacen felices a los niños que juegan por toda la plaza principal. Otra de las cosas más compradas por locales y visitantes en los puestos ambulantes son los

clásicos llaveros con la imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe o la Virgen de Zapopan, así como las pulseras bordadas con tu nombre. En la misma zona, el arte y la música se van apoderando de las calles mientras te adentras al famosísimo Andador 20 de Noviembre, el recientemente renovado lugar que es idóneo para disfrutar del folclor mexicano. Los eventos culturales no pueden faltar en este andador, ¡Siempre está adornado de acuerdo con la ocasión! Puedes encontrarte sombrillas, coloridos salvavidas o atrapasueños, los cuales fueron el motivo de decoración durante los últimos meses. Si vas a Zapopan durante el invierno verás este lugar adornado con flores de nochebuena, la flor originaria de México y que florece en el mes de diciembre. If you go to Zapopan during the winter you will see this hall decorated with Nochebuena flowers, the flower originating in Mexico and blooming in the month of December. Another attraction of this hall is gastronomy, each restaurant offers attractive things for those who come to visit the heart of this municipality, such as the Doña Gabina restaurant, a place Mexican to the bones where the specialty is tacos, Mexican tostadas, pozole and the champurrado, a warm and thick Mexican drink prepared with maíz. The desserts are wonderful, whether you choose some doraditas with caramel or an “ate” a very thick jelly, made with meaty fruit that always leaves a good taste in your mouth.

Zapopan

Guadalajara metro area is a place of faith and tradition By Randy Rodríguez Managing Editor Zapopan, recently dubbed as Ciudad de los Niños (the city of children), is part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area and is a only a four-hour drive from Puerto Vallarta. Its name comes from the Nahuatl word Tzapopan, or, place populated with zapotes - a term for a soft, edible fruit. The main square of Zapopan is called Plaza de Las Americas but it is also known as the Plaza de Juan Pablo II, in honor of the former pontiff, who in 1979, visited the Zapopan basilica located just in front of the Plaza. In the same area, during the day, there are many stands where you can find souvenirs, clothes, tequila glasses, hundreds of religious images and typical balloons for the children that play happily throughout the main square. Visitors and locals love to buy the classic keychains with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe or the Virgin of Zapopan, as well as the bracelets embroidered with their names. In the same area, art and music take over the streets as you enter the famous Andador 20 de Noviembre or 20 de Noviembre Hall, the recently renovated place is ideal for enjoying the Mexican folklore. Cultural events cannot be missed, and it is always decorated according to the occasion! You’ll find umbrellas, colorful lifesavers or dream catchers, which have been decorating the whole place during the last months.

Jet de la Isla Considerado uno de los emprendedores LGBT más jóvenes de Puerto Vallarta, Jet habla sobre la intención detrás de cada proyecto y sus sueños en un futuro cercano. Por: Randy Rodríguez Jefe de Redacción Hace unos meses, vimos a Jet de la Isla cuando salía de su espacio de trabajo y nos dijo que estaba a punto de comenzar un largo viaje por Sudamérica, Islandia y algunas partes del centro y suroeste de Europa; detrás de él, había un rastro de alegría y felicidad que tenía que ser compartido con nuestros lectores. En esta entrevista, Jet explicó a O&APV las razones sinceras que lo anclaron a Puerto Vallarta y cómo, poco a poco, ha estado navegando directamente hacia el éxito personal y profesional sin dejar atrás a quienes siempre lo han apoyado. Esta es su historia, en sus propias palabras.

¿Cómo llegaste a Puerto Vallarta? En 2016, acababa de terminar una relación en Texas, lugar en el que crecí y justo antes de regresar a donde vivía en España, decidí venir a México. Me dije a mí mismo: ¿Por qué no snorkelear en Puerto Vallarta durante un mes antes de regresar a casa? Date un tiempo para pensar”. Con esa idea le envié un mensaje a mis viejos amigos Joey e Isaac que habían estado viviendo en Vallarta los últimos 12 años y que ahora administran una de las Guías Gay de Puerto Vallarta. Con su ayuda, vine a Vallarta y me quedé en su casa las primeras noches mientras encontraba un hogar. En ese momento no tenía demasiados ahorros, así que cuando Joey mencionó que necesitaban un guía turístico aproveché la oportunidad y dije que sí. En poco tiempo estaba mostrando cascadas turísticas, selvas, montañas, playas y la mejor comida y bebida en la bahía, estaba enamorado. Este trabajo me dio la oportunidad de conocer viajeros y encariñarme cada vez más con Vallarta. Alguien dijo “Si te gusta Vallarta, tienes que quedarte para cuando llegan las ballenas.” Entonces extendí mi estadía unos meses más. Luego dijeron: “Si te gustan las b allenas, tienes que quedarte durante la temporada de lluvias”. Así lo hice y eventualmente adopté un gato y luego me dije que no podía dejar a mi gato en México. Dándome cualquier razón para extender mi estadía en México. Me enamoré.

¿Por qué decidiste vivir entre el mar, la arena y la montaña? Un día, mientras disfrutaba de mi nueva vida en Vallarta, el jefe de tours me invitó a Yelapa, hice un pequeño video editado ese día, como lo hacía normalmente durante mis viajes, así les mostraba imágenes a los clientes cuando me preguntaban sobre cosas interesantes qué hacer en la bahía. Puerto Vallarta es un paraíso tanto para los amantes de la naturaleza como para los negocios mexicoamericanos. Siento que ser mexicoamericano me ha ayudado a ser un tipo de embajador que une los servicios entre el pueblo mexicano local y la comunidad turística, comprendiendo las necesidades de los lugareños, como lo es tener salarios más altos, un ambiente laboral positivo, tener responsabilidad ambiental y al mismo tiempo cubrir las necesidades de nuestros turistas LGBT ofreciendo reser vas convenientes, servicios confiables, comunicaciones rápidas y conexiones con lugareños como nuestros guías gays.

Rápidamente decidí crear un sitio web con mi formación en programación y algunas tarjetas de presentación para este descubrimiento que me causaba tanta alegría. Una referencia condujo a la siguiente y, un año después junto con un equipo de 10 amigos que también son mis compañeros de trabajo y equipo, subí al puesto No. 3 entre los 150 tours en barco en Puerto Vallarta según TripAdvisor. Un año después, abrí el 1er hostal gay de México y casi al mismo tiempo creé el grupo de Facebook “Puerto Vallarta gays: Everything you need or want to know?”, que es ahora el grupo de Facebook más activo de Puerto Vallarta para el turismo LGBT.

¿Tuviste algún mentor en el camino a donde te encuentras ahora, quién te inspiró?

El nudismo ha sido un tema muy interesante para mí. Vengo de Texas, un Estado conservador en los Estados Unidos. Yo crecí entendiendo el nudismo como un tabú y era demasiado tímido para incluso estar sin camisa en mi propia casa mientras crecía. Al llegar a Puerto Vallarta tuve la suerte de conocer a Daniel Ferreiro. Él es mi guía oficial de turismo nudista. Primero nos hicimos amigos y luego compañeros de cuarto. Daniel es un aficionado al nudismo y me ha ayudado a estar cómodo con mi cuerpo a través del nudismo y ahora compartimos esa experiencia liberadora con Puerto Vallarta.

Siempre seré agradecido con Joey e Isaac de Guía Gay Vallarta por su tutoría al principio con mi comercialización. Entendieron lo que funcionaba y lo que no funcionaba cuando se trataba de marketing impreso y esto me ayudó a conseguir mis primeros clientes. En cuanto a la cultura empresarial, soy fanático de las empresas tecnológicas como Facebook, por los beneficios que brindan a sus empleados. Mis estudios de diseño y programación se inspiraron en mi ídolo Steve Jobs, que me enseñó la importancia de que la tecnología simplifique la vida de las personas. la par de mi crecimiento profesional, comencé a crear redes en Facebook para poder poner mi granito de arena en materia de conservación ambiental. Vallarta en mi opinión, es el Disneylandia Gay y nosotros simplemente estamos agregando más atracciones a este fabuloso mundo Gay.

Los Business Networking Mixers mensuales están teniendo una gran respuesta de muchos empresarios, ¿Cómo surgió todo el concepto? La idea detrás de las reuniones es ayudar a los nuevos empresarios a encontrar los recursos que yo tuve la suerte de encontrar cuando llegué. Al principio me di cuenta de que podía iniciar un negocio en Vallarta gracias a Joey e Isaac de Guía Gay Vallarta, pues gracias a ellos encontré un nuevo trabajo, un nuevo lugar para vivir y finalmente, la comercialización de un negocio que ahora tiene éxito. La creación de estas reuniones de negocios proporcionaría a los empresarios un lugar para conocer a creadores de negocios antiguos, nuevos y futuros y, por lo tanto, hacer de Vallarta un lugar idóneo para el turismo LGBT mientras me aseguro de que mi negocio y otros continúen creciendo y ayudándose mutuamente.

Y en los días libres… ¿Qué te encuentras haciendo? Disfruto relajándome en mi hamaca viendo la puesta de sol, mirando la caminata artística de los miércoles y, en general, viviendo la vida como debe ser en el paraíso.

¿Qué es lo que la gente encuentra más sorprendente de ti? ¿Lo más sorprendente? Diría que todos están conmocionados porque a pesar de lo joven que soy, mantengo una gran motivación en esta ciudad a la que alguna vez llegué con un sueño. Otra cosa que la gente puede encontrar sorprendente es que me encanta ayudar a la comunidad, crear, aventurarme, socializar y en general, amar la vida. He viajado por 45 países y dado la vuelta al mundo 3 veces y eso es lo que inspira mi trabajo hoy.

¿Tienes algún proyecto en manos? Mi nuevo proyecto favorito es hacer un Gay Art Hop todos los miércoles. La idea es reunir a los interesados en el vino, el arte y la buena comida para pasar una velada inolvidable en Vallarta conociendo a otros viajeros. ¡Estén atentos para más información! Boca to Ánimas Hike Highlights Beaches and Jungle

A low-cost tour offered by All Access Sports Bar By Randy Rodríguez / Managing Editor Puerto Vallarta offers many things to active people who love to go out, explore and admire the spectacular sights; if you are one of those people, you will have to add this three to five hour hike/ walk (and we might add, inexpensive tour) led by James Sabatini, to your things to do during your stay in Vallarta. It takes about three to five people for the tour to form and take place. Once enough people are interested, you’ll meet at All Access Sports Bar in front of the Lazaro Cardenas Park (typically at 10 a.m.), and take the bus to Boca de Tomatlan, a quaint fishing village. You can get to Boca de Tomatlan via sea or land. The trip by land is 11 miles (from PV&#39;s main square), and about 20 minutes. The scenic ride with jungle and hills on the left, and the emerald colored waters of the sea on your right, makes the time pass quickly. Once in Boca de Tomatlan, you’ll take a 30 minute walk to Colomitos Beach, which is a small little clear- sand beach located between the clear emerald sea waves, rounded rocks and the lush tropical jungle. After enjoying Colomitos, you’ll make your way over a rocky area that can be easily traversed to get to Madagascar, another beach where you can stop and enjoy the gentle waves and relax with the sea and nature. Continuing the journey, the next beach is Playa del Caballo (another virgin beach with few visitors), that is home to elegant palms, a calm surf and emerald-colored water that is atypical of Mexico’s west coast. The tour ends at Las Ánimas beach, where you can have lunch on your own, and maybe enjoy a few drinks. The beach has been rated as a tourist beach-lover top choice. The sand is clear and fine, the waters clean, the waves soft and the surrounding nature astounding. Most of the times the return to Puerto Vallarta is by motorboat. There is a pier that makes it much easier to get on it. Depending on how many in the group you can put together, the price for the tour varies but never exceeds $150 pesos per person. Entrepreneur: Jet de la Isla

One of the youngest LGBT entrepreneurs in Puerto Vallarta, Jet talks about the intention behind every project and his dreams in the near future. By Randy Rodriquez / Managing Editor

With that idea I messaged my old-time friends Joey and Isaac who had been living in Vallarta the past 12 years (and who had now managed Puerto Vallarta Gay Guide). With their help, I came to Vallarta and stayed at their place for the first few nights while I found a one-month home for myself. At the time I didn’t have much savings, so when Joey mentioned they needed a tour guide for an ATV gig, I jumped at the opportunity and said yes! In little time I was showing tourist waterfalls, jungles, mountains, beaches and the best food and drinks in the bay. In other words, I was in love. This job gave me the opportunity to meet travelers and fall in love with Vallarta. Someone said “if you like Vallarta you have to stay for the whales. I extended my stay a few more months. Then they said “If you like the whales you have to stay for the rainy season.” I did and eventually I adopted a cat and then I told myself I could not leave my cat behind in Mexico. Giving myself any reason to extend my stay in Mexico. I was in love.

Why did you decide to live between the sea, the sand and the mountain? @las.fotos.gais

A few months ago, we saw Jet de la Isla as he was leaving his workspace and told us he was about to start a long trip through South America, Iceland and some parts of Central and Southwest Europe; behind him, was a trail of joy and happiness that had to be shared with our readers. In this interview, Jet explains to O&APV the reasons that anchored him to Puerto Vallarta and how - little by little - he has been sailing towards personal and professional success without leaving those who have always supported him, behind. Here’s his story, in his own words.

How did you come to Puerto Vallarta? In 2016, I had just broken up with my boyfriend from Texas - where I grew up - and I was on my way back to Spain where I was living at the time. Just before I returned to Spain, I decided to go to Mexico. I told myself, “How about you check out the snorkeling in Puerto Vallarta for a month before you return home. Give yourself some time to think”.

One day, while enjoying my new life in Vallarta, my ATV tour boss invited me out on a day out to Yelapa. Yelapa was only accessible by boat and I made an edited video on my trip that day, as normally did during my travels, that I would show customers when they asked me about other cool things to do in the bay. Most of them asked if I could show them those places and quickly I became a boat tour guide! I was being invited to join their boats to show them my favorite places to snorkel, eat, cliff jumping, sail around and more. I decided to create a website with my programming degree background and some business cards for my newfound joy and bam I was in business. One referral led to the next and one year later I shot up to #3 out of 150 on all TripAdvisor’s boat tours in Puerto Vallarta with a team of 10 friends who are also my co-workers and team. A year after that I opened Mexico’s 1st Gay Hostel. Around the same time, I created “Puerto Vallarta Gays: Everything Gay You Need Or Want To Know” which is now Vallarta’s most active Facebook group for LGBT tourism.

Did you have a mentor, someone inspired you? I will forever be greatly for Joey and Isaac from Gay Guide Vallarta for their mentorship at the beginning with my marketing. They understood what worked and what did not work when it came to

print marketing. This helped me get my first gay customers. As far as company culture I am a fan of tech companies like Facebook for the benefits they give their employees. My design and programming studies were inspired by my idol Steve Jobs which taught me the importance of tech making people’s lives simpler. I was one of the first private boat tour companies to have a website and I made it a priority to bring easy, reliable and fast booking to boat tours. Which I owe my success to.

Complete the sentence, Puerto Vallarta is ...? Puerto Vallarta is a paradise for nature lovers and a business haven for Mexican Americans. I feel being Mexican American has helped me be an ambassador of sorts that bridges services between the local Mexican people and the tourist community. Understanding the needs from the locals such as higher wages, a positive work environment, environmental responsibility and the needs of our LGBT tourists such as convenient bookings, reliable services, fast communications and connections to locals like our gay guides.

What does nudism represent in your daily life? Nudism has been such an interesting topic for me. I come from a conservative state in the US. Texas. And grew up understanding nudism as a taboo and I was too shy to even be shirtless in my own home growing up. Coming to PV I was very fortunate to meet Daniel Ferreiro. He’s my official naked tour guide. We first became friends and later roommates. Daniel is a nudism aficionado and has helped me be comfortable with my body through nudism and we now share that liberating experience with Puerto Vallarta.

On days off what do you find yourself doing? I enjoy relaxing in my hammock seeing the sun set, checking out the art walk on Wednesdays and generally living life as it was meant to be in paradise.

What do people find most surprising about you? Ah, most surprising? I would say everyone is shocked at how young I am and motivated in this once sleepy town. I love to help the community, create new ideas, adventure, socializing, food, drink and generally love life. I’ve traveled to 45 countries, traveled three times around the world, which is what inspires my work today.

Do you have any projects in hands? My favorite new project I have in mind is doing a Gay Art Hop every Wednesday. The idea is to gather those interested in wine, art and good food and have a beautiful evening in Vallarta meeting new travelers. Stay tuned for more info! How do you see Puerto Vallarta in 10 years? I see a lot of positive things for Vallarta in the future in terms of growth and services being offered. With growth I have started early on creating the Facebook groups and businesses in order to be able to help with the environmental conservation efforts that we will need. Vallarta in my eyes is Gay Disneyland and we are simply adding more attractions to this fabulous Gay Disneyland.

The Business Networking Mixers are having a great response from many entrepreneurs, how did the whole concept come? The idea behind the mixers was to help new entrepreneurs find the resources that I was lucky tofind early on. I realized early on that I was able to start a business in Vallarta thanks to Joey and Isaac. They helped me find a new job, a new place and eventually with the marketing of my new business. Their help was pivotal to my success. Creating a business networking mixer would provide entrepreneurs with a place to meet old, new and future business creators and thus making Vallarta a better place for LGBT tourism. Ensuring my business and others would continue to grow and help each other.

La ubicación es privilegiada, se localiza 10 km al sur de Vallarta en una reserva privada en la Sierra Madre y los tickets tienen un costo aproximado de $2,380.00 MN. El inicio de la travesía Outdoor Adventure ofrecida por la compañía Vallarta Adventures (www.vallarta-adventures. com/es) comienza con un paseo en lancha inflable hasta el pueblo pesquero de Boca de Tomatlan. Desde ahí, a bordo de un camión de tracción para 15 personas o unimog, se hace la mitad del traslado hacia la base principal en la montaña, la otra mitad se hace en mula por la selva tropical. Randy RodrĂguez / Managing Editor If you feel like having a wild and fun adventure, surely this will be the experience of your life, this tour is ranked number one in the outdoor activities in Puerto Vallarta, according to TripAdvisor. The location is privileged, but we do know it is located six miles south of Vallarta in a private reserve in the Sierra Madre. Tickets for the tour cost $119 per adult and $83 per child. The start of the journey offered by Vallarta Adventures (www.vallarta-adventures.com) Outdoor Adventure begins with an inflatable boat ride to the fishing village of Boca de Tomatlan. From that point, on board a traction truck for 15 people or unimog, half of the transfer is made to the main base in the mountain, the other half is done by mule through the rainforest. The mule ride is easy and it only takes 25 minutes from the base to the first zip line. You do not need experience and the guides give you directions at the beginning of the tour. Although the waters that are crossed are calm, this tour requires a lot of physical activity to be able to take it, it is necessary to have a good condition that allows you to walk uphill. After the journey uphill through the mountain, the descent is done through different activities, including suspension bridges and sliding down a fun slide. The most pleasant descent is rappelling beside of majestic waterfalls. Each group is accompanied by a professional photographer who captures the memories of each participant while going down, at the end of the tour they deliver all the evidence of the adventure. The adrenaline rush is provided by the exciting zip lines that travel 200 to 1000 feet high above thetreetops. 1. Saphire Beach Club

How I relax on my day off is I love to lay by the pool at Saphire private beach club. Love being there with mimosas and eating the classic Caesar Salad. The staff is very hard working and friendly and not hard on the eyes too. The most important thing to do is relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches. I recommend coming to this beach club for the day pass, which is $200 pesos for a chair and towel and the wonderful pool.

2. Blondies

I love to have a fabulous Slushy Drink at Blondies and walk the Malecon at night. My favorite Slushy is “the big tease “ which was my drag queen name in night school (laughs). The drinks at Blondies are wonderful and have so many varieties. The business is gay owned. What better way to start your evening then with a gay cocktail!

One of my favorite cheap and cheerful spots is Fajita Republic, where I adore the fajitas on the rocks. Gouda cheese melted in a lava bowl is the way to my heart. Patty and Fernando, the owners, are lovely and very welcoming to everyone. I have been going here for 10 years now and still come back for the food and margaritas.

1. Saphire Beach Club

Es aquí donde me relajo en mis días libres, me encanta tumbarme junto a la piscina en el club de playa de Saphire. Amo las mimosas que sirven y también la comida, ¡En especial la clásica ensalada césar! El personal es muy trabajador y amable y lo más importante es que te puedes relajar en las hermosas playas. Recomiendo venir a este club de playa para pasar el día, está a únicamente $200 por una silla, una toalla y la maravillosa piscina.

2. Blondies

Me encanta ir por slushies a Blondies y caminar en el malecón por la noche. Mi favorito es “the big tease” que era mi nombre de drag queen en la escuela nocturna (risas). Las bebidas en Blondies son maravillosas y tienen muchas variedades. Un coctel gay es la mejor manera de iniciar una noche gay.

3. Reinas Bar

De una reina a otra reina, si quieres salir a un bar del vecindario, debes ir al Reinas Bar. No hay nada que iguale esa sensación de ponerte un vestido fabuloso, maquillaje y zapatos y ser la reina que debes ser. La decoración y el ambiente son muy acogedores y las familias reales te cuidan.

Uno de mis lugares favoritos es Fajita Republic ¡Adoro las fajitas on the rock! El queso Gouda derretido en un molcajete me puede enamorar. Patty y Fernando, los dueños son encantadores y muy amigables con todos. He estado yendo aquí por 10 años y todavía sigo regresando por la fabulosa comida y por margaritas.

Por último pero no menos importante, les recomiendo asistir a mi el más nuevo espectáculo de Miss Conception llamado “VILLAINS” en The Palm Cabaret and Bar en Olas Altas todos los lunes a las 7pm y 9:30 pm y los jueves a las 9:30 pm durante toda la temporada. Esta es una visita obligada siempre que vengas a Vallarta. Hay que ver para creer así que ven a ver con tus propios ojos como me cambio de ropa 12 veces ¡Mientras canto en vivo! Viernes / Senderismo hasta Playa Las Ánimas

La forma más económica de llegar es tomando el autobús marcado como “Boca de Tomatlán” desde el Oxxo ubicado en la esquina de Basillo Badillo y Constitución en Puerto Vallarta, el destino es Boca de Tomatlán. Una vez en la playa de Boca, cruza el río y sigue el camino; comenzarás una caminata hasta playa Las Ánimas. Friday/ Hiking to Las Ánimas Beach

The most economical way for this adventure is to take the bus marked Boca de Tomatlán from the Oxxo at the corner of Basillo Badillo and Constitución in Puerto Vallarta. Por Randy Rodríguez / Jefe de Redacción Siempre en búsqueda de artistas nuevos, el ojo clínico de Jean Pierre Corsica Galería de Arte ha sabido cómo reconocer e impulsar durante décadas al talento más destacable del mundo del arte en México. Jean, le abrió las puertas a Out & About PV para narrar cómo nació la galería, cómo creció y como se ha mantenido por 20 años. O&APV.- Jean, ¿Cómo está diversificada Corsica Galería de Arte? JP. - Yo creo en la calidad, pero la calidad es algo subjetivo, mucha gente piensa que por comprar algo caro, significa que es bueno. Me dediqué por más de 20 años a armar las colecciones de arte de los bancos alrededor del mundo y a los 22 años hice mi primera colección en Montecarlo. Ahora mi ojo es como un escáner, yo puedo ver una obra y rápidamente sé muy bien de qué se trata y si la debo incluir. También me encantan los retos, a diferencia de otras galerías, hacemos proyectos para impulsar a los artistas jóvenes y es increíble ver como rápidamente crecen y los incluyen en los museos. O&APV.- ¿Hay algún perfil entre los visitantes de Galería Corsica? J.P. - Antes que todo, son amantes del arte y saben lo que están comprando. También tenemos clientes que son coleccionistas realmente conocedores y que acuden a nuestras sucursales de Punta Mita, Los Cabos y por supuesto, Puerto Vallarta. O&APV.- ¿Después de 20 años de fundación, alguna vez te imaginaste que Corsica iba a consolidarse por tanto tiempo en el mercado? J.P. - Cuando empezamos todo era un juego, yo nunca había vendido arte ni pensaba que lo podía hacer. Mi socio había estudiado la materia pero no era más que eso eso ¡Un juego!... Aun cuando el corredor turístico de Puerto Vallarta era muy pequeño, tuvimos una galería que medía 500 metros cuadrados, tuvimos éxito y rápidamente abrimos las tres galerías que tenemos actualmente. Desde el principio hemos hecho esto porque nos gusta, nos divertimos haciéndolo y eso cambia todos los parámetros. O&APV.- ¿Cómo mantienes viva la esencia y el espíritu de la galería durante dos décadas? J.P. - Siempre estamos en búsqueda de artistas nuevos, en mi vida tuve la suerte de conocer varios maestros como el maestro José Luis Cuevas, Juan Soriano, Leonora Carrington, entre otros; Siempre hay algo nuevo en el arte y eso es algo que me gusta. O&APV.- ¿Cómo invitarías a la gente a venir a conocer Galería Corsica? J.P. - Creo que si la gente quiere tener una idea de lo que es el arte mexicano, la solución es visitar Galería Corsica. Profile: Jean Pierre Renucci Owner and Curator at Corsica Art Gallery, also named as one of the best art curators in Mexico. By Randy Rodríguez / Managing Editor Always in search of new artists, the eye of Jean Pierre (Corsica Art Gallery) has been known how to recognize and boost the most outstanding talent of the art world in Mexico for decades. Jean, opened the doors to O&APV, to narrate how Corsica was born, grew up and remained for the last 20 years. O&APV.- Jean Pierre, how do you diversify Corsica Art Gallery? JP.- I believe in quality, but quality is subjective, many people think that buying something expensive means it is good. I dedicated myself for more than 20 years to assemble the art collections of banks around the world and at the age 22 I made my first collection in Monte Carlo. Now, my eye is like a scanner, I can quickly tell what a piece is all about and if I should include it in the gallery. I also love challenges, unlike other galleries, we make projects to boost young artists and it is truly gratifying to see how quickly they grow and the museums include their work. O&APV.- What are the profiles of Corsica Art Gallery customers? JP.- First, they are art lovers, they know what they are bringing home. We have customers who are knowledgeable collectors at our galleries in Punta Mita, Los Cabos and of course, Puerto Vallarta. O&APV.- After 20 years of foundation, did you ever imagine that Corsica was going to consolidate for so long in the market? JP.-When we started, everything was a game, I had never sold art or thought I could do it. My partner had studied the subject, but it was just that. A game! ... Even though the Puerto Vallarta tourist corridor was small, we began at a store measuring the 500 square meters and it was a hit so we quickly opened the three galleries that we have currently. From the beginning we have done this because we have fun doing it and that changes all the parameters. O&APV.- How do you keep the essence and spirit of Corsica Art Gallery alive for two decades? JP.- We are always in search of new artists, in my life I was fortunate to meet several teachers such as José Luis Cuevas, Juan Soriano, Leonora Carrington, among others; There is always something new in art and that I love it. Another fascinating thing is that every time we change the museology, people feel like if they were in a whole new and different space. O&APV.- How would you invite people to come visit Corsica Art Gallery? JP.- I think that if people really want to get an idea of what Mexican art is, the solution is to visit Corsica Art Gallery. As simple as that.
