1. Tell us a bit about yourself. I am the chairman of the board for the Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al-Qassimi. In the UAE, we support people, helping them understand how to move about in the country. We help to also develop businesses in the UAE as well as in other countries around the world. We are very proud of our role. 2. Looking back on the last five years of your career, what’s the highlight? It has been the level of government support. This government, our rulers, give us hope. They brought us to this country, allowing us the opportunity to work here. I'm proud of this. Secondly, we are trying to support people. How do we help these people? We help them understand how to move forward in business in the UAE. Working with almost 270 nationalities, it is like having the experience from around the world in one place, the UAE, which is the most beautiful country. I came to this office about two and a half years ago. As an Arab, my perspectives about business may be slightly different, but I started understanding what people need. And today, based on what we see on our platforms and social media, people like what we are doing. What is most important to us is understanding what we need to take from the market, give back to people, and keep this balanced. Business is business, but we need to understand how to capture the heart because, at the Royal office, everybody looks at this office as essential in this country. My team and I are so grateful. Everybody working with us is so proud to have the opportunity of working in such a beautiful country. 3. As the chairman, what's your vision for the Royal office? My vision is to support people and give them guidance about business, life, and humanity to foster unity. Every day, my team and I work towards building that union inside our community. This is our vision. Understanding people, especially multiple nationalities, is not an easy job. I've had to really educate myself about many nationalities and countries, from the human being side and the business side to the marketing side and the economic side. Understanding what people need and understanding how to create unity among people is essential.

4. How would you say the Royal office is tapping into that innovative technological space? The coronavirus pandemic gave us another point of view on what we need and how we need to move in a different direction. I will not divulge too much, but we are doing a lot of projects. In terms of technology, currency, and blockchains, this kind of business is what is already on top. For example, I'll tell you a secret; our office is the partner of the first blockchains Metaverse. Metaverse now allows us to be far away and still connect as a community. Metaverse gives us possibilities and a different point of view. After one, two, three years, we see, for example, you don't need to come to me, we will speak to each other, feel each other, even 1,000 kilometres apart. With technology, I would say there needs to be a balance between business and human beings. Through this office, we work with many companies worldwide, so we aim to achieve that balance through good management.
5. Tell us about the Africa World Business Centre? We partner with the Africa Business Centre. The first time I went to Africa was in 2003, which helped me learn a lot about how to be nice to people, see what they need, and try and support them. The experience gave me a totally different point of view. And I would like to say to people around the world, if you start complaining about your life, where you're living, go to a place that gives you understanding instead of complaining, because every day you need to be happy. And I am so happy about Africa now. We have a lot of guests here that we do business with and try to support. For me, the most essential continent from the business perspective on which we focus is Africa. Africa is a vast market. We support Africa and Africa supports us. And this is the kind of relationship we are creating among the UAE, Europe, Asia, and Africa. This is now very important; if people understand how to move inside Africa, how to move inside the UAE, business with each other will help foster that union I mentioned earlier.

6. What is your definition of success? Never give up. Also, a lesson I've taken from my experience in Africa, what does not kill you makes you stronger. I've faced many problems, some that have really made me feel scared. I've tackled the problems and tried to solve them. And, for me, this is crucial. If you start feeling something you've never felt, these feelings make you strong. These feelings make you proud if you overcome these hurdles. And this is important because although we can gain experience in school, we also need to gain experience in life. And I would advise people to go everywhere because I'm the guy travelling across the globe. This journey—travelling, facing different problems, meeting and understanding different people—has been the biggest school in my life. 7. What advice would you give your 20-yearold self? The advice that I would like to give to 20-year-old people is to take life into your hands because your hands are carrying your life as you want it. Think about yourself. Think about other human beings. Keep the balance, and God will bless you. As humans, we need to choose. So, people who are 20 years old need to decide what they need and how they want to move forward in life. Some people will be successful and some won't, but I believe all human beings can achieve success. How we achieve success depends on us. That's why I would advise young people to finish school because this is important. Watch lives around the world, use the technology around us, understand this world and what's going on, and take the goodness from the world and not the bad. Focus on the good things and the good things God has given us. 8. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it and why? I have a proposition for a book, but I think the time will come, not now. My journey, my mission, and my vision have not ended. The right people will write the book at the end of the journey, not in the middle. I want a book in the future that really shares my knowledge, my experience, the good, and the right
12
Out & About Magazine
direction. That's why I will not give you the secret of what the book will be about or what the title will be because you need to wait 20 years, 30 years, if God gives me health in the future. After 30 years, maybe we will meet once more. And this time, we discuss what the book will be and perhaps the book will be on the way. 9. What motivates you? What motivates me? Life. I love life. I love to wake up in the morning smiling and understanding the reason God put me in this position and why God gave me this opportunity. And this gives you some excellent energy. Motivation is life. Motivation is our family. Motivation is the people around us. Motivation is my employees. They look at me like I'm a good leader. Motivation is my mother and father and them being proud of me every day. And motivation is God, he is on top of my mind for me every day, and he's watching what I'm doing. This is simple motivation every day. 10. What are some of your everyday habits? Everyday things such as the gym and work. We need to think about our bodies because a healthy body equals a healthy mind. This is what I'm trying to do every day because we're getting old and, unfortunately, it's not going in a good direction, only in the old direction. But having the motivation and the habit every day is simple. 11. How do you look after your mental health? Thinking positive every day. As men, we also need to focus on this as a medical issue, one we might not want to discuss. Men are supposed to be strong. Men are supposed to support women. Men are supposed to support our family. If men did everything the right way, then men's health should be okay. We do it every day. We don't need to look for solutions in different places. We should be like, 'God created us,' and, 'God gives us the possibility of living this world in a normal way, not up and down, left and right.' If men cared about themselves, we would definitely have a healthy mind.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE, ALL DRESSED IN… BLACK? Brides are no longer interested in wearing white gowns on their big day. While the conventional wedding attire features elegant long, white dresses with veils and trains, that tradition is no longer in vogue. We have recently witnessed an upsurge in black-themed weddings and black wedding gowns. Brides who opt for these inky dresses want to break away from conventional norms and go for a contemporary look. CNN reported that Google Trends had high searches for “black wedding dress” recently. Specifically, “black wedding dress” was searched more times last year than “white wedding dress” on the search engine. When Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick in 1997, she wore a black dress, while “Selling Sunset” star Christine Quinn sported a noir-coloured tone for her 2020 ceremony. Here are five black wedding dresses we are obsessed with:

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY A STEP BEYOND FASHION Our understanding of fashion has always been dynamic and has changed dramatically over time. And now, as technology advances, our relationship with fashion changes even more significantly. Clever adornments, like bangles, smartwatches, decoration keychains, savvy rings, wristbands, groups, wristlets, hoops, accessories, contraption gloves, anklets, and so forth, have taken the design game forward. Fashion tech enables us to live an outright fashion experience. Technology is transforming the existing rules in the fashion industry. Now, functionality is as important as looks. We are in the digital era, and so are our garments. As we continue to innovate, we can increasingly interact with the designs, and they also interact with us or react to the outside world. Here are some of the wearable technology that is currently available:

SMARTWATCHES Smartwatches are wrist-worn devices that connect to your mobile phone to provide quick “at-aglance” access to your digital life The mighty Apple Watch dominates the landscape with its GPS and LTE models in smartwatches. The watch can collect and deliver calls and notifications from the iPhone and track physical and health activity, all in an AI-backed interface that’s easy to use. Beyond the Apple Watch, Google’s Wear OS is the equivalent for Android phone users. Android smartwatches offer slim designs and are great for men and women alike.
SPORTS WATCHES Dedicated to those who love running, cycling, swimming, or even golf, sports watches have excellent GPS and heart rate tracking sensors and many associated insights. The data collected can provide the next level of information about your body, allowing you to take your training to the next level. Garmin has led the way with its series of GPS sports watches for the last 10 years as a company operating in the wearable technology space. The brand’s flagship devices are designed for elite triathletes who require Olympic-level biometric data collection for expert training programmes. The data includes metrics like VO2 max and training status with adjustments for heat, altitude acclimation status, training load focus, recovery time, and aerobic and anaerobic training effects.

SMART JEWELLERY Smart jewellery combines fashion and functionality with refined design, elevating technology to the level of luxury.
RINGS Let’s begin with the least obvious. Although almost all smart jewellery is either some tracker or notification device, they act as such through the most predictable forms: bracelets that serve a similar purpose as smartwatches or necklaces. Rings don’t seem realistic for smart jewellery because of their small size and less-than-functional place on your fingers. Yet, smart jewellery entrepreneurs did not nix the idea of adding finger jewellery to the smart party and have been able to give them efficient roles.

PENDANTS Senstone – The Senstone sets itself apart from other smart jewellery by doing something different. It records voice memos, transcribes them, and organises the text in an app. Aside from the LED light that lights up when recording, no one can tell that this is actually a piece of smart jewellery. It can be worn as a necklace or a bracelet.
BRACELETS If you want to get a little more traditional in smart jewellery, there is a wide range of smart bracelets. Most of these bracelets function similarly to the different types of smartwatches and are basically glorified Fitbits.

FITNESS TRACKERS Fitness trackers remain very popular among people who want to track their progress through heart rate, steps, and estimated calories burned while receiving some smartphone notifications. They’re perfect if you don’t want super-advanced metrics provided by sports watches or don’t want a mini smartwatch like the Apple Watch. Moreover, compared to smartwatches, fitness trackers offer longer battery life. Nowadays, most fitness trackers are waterproof and provide a wide range of functions such as: ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶
heart-rate tracking; sleep tracking; VO2 max; UV; CO2; Swim tracking; Smartphone notifications; and, most importantly, weeks of battery life.
Fitbit’s devices remain some of the best, with great looks, low prices, great accuracy, and excellent overall quality.
SMART CLOTHING This type of clothing comes with built-in technology that can perform various tasks, including fitness or health monitoring, interacting with phones and other devices, and changing fabric characteristics to suit the user’s preference, activity, or environment.

HANDBAGS Classy handbags based on wearable innovation are outfitted with cool provisions, such as inside lights that turn on naturally when the sack is opened. LED lightings work on batteries to enlighten the inside of bags and totes. These packs keep clients associated with their gadgets and permit Sans hands calling, music tuning in, photograph clicking, area sticking, and voice recording, among other things. They can likewise help in charging a cell phone and other USB gadgets.

Summer Make-up Tips
Summer is the time of year for bright colours and fun dresses, playful shades, and untied tresses! It’s always a delight to complete your look with make-up; however, summer tends to make that a tricky proposition. With the temperatures rising, many suffer the brunt of skin damage. But fear not, here are some hacks to protect you all through this season!
MOISTURISE It may seem counterintuitive to use moisturiser in a season when you’re prone to sweating profusely, but moisturising is the most important thing to do in summer. Sweating unblocks the pores and drains all the moisture from the skin. During summer, the best idea is to put on healthy amounts of moisturising cream after a shower. PRIME Primers are an absolute must in summer. Whether or not you use it in other seasons, a primer is the best way to prepare and even out your skin tone and texture. Primer is the best way to combat shiny skin. It doesn’t block pores and allows the skin to breathe, which is an important balance to maintain in summer.

SWITCH FOUNDATION
Cream-based foundations work very well except in summer. With the temperatures rising, it’s better to ditch as many creams as possible. Switch over to powders to put on top of the primer to help the foundation stay longer. Another advantage of powder foundations is that they prevent your makeup from matting up as you go about your day.

LESS IS MORE
Summer is colourful and bright, but it’s also sweltering hot, making you sweat. No matter what makeup elements you decide to put on, try and keep the total amount of products on your face at the lowest possible. The heat makes makeup move around, so less is more.

SWITCH UP YOUR BLUSH DITCH THE SHIMMER
Cream-based foundations work very well except in summer. With the temperatures rising, it’s better to ditch as many creams as possible. Switch over to powders to put on top of the primer to help the foundation stay longer. Another advantage of powder foundations is that they prevent your makeup from matting up as you go about your day.
BLOT AWAY
On an average summer day, the heat and sweat will make you have to touch up your foundation and blush multiple times a day. It’s highly advisable to avoid foundation creams, but making powder blushes last in their absence makes it difficult. You can switch to using gel blushes and stains instead for the summer. Top it off with a light smattering of setting powder that will help ensure that your skin doesn’t shine. Using stains or gel blushes will help make them last longer, and at the same time, it will eliminate the need for as many touch-ups as your usual powder blushes will necessitate.
If you follow the tips above, you’re likely to need significantly fewer touch-ups throughout the day. However, you will need it at least once, irrespective of the season. It is essential to ensure that you carry blotting paper or soft wipes with you everywhere you go if you’re wearing makeup. Summers tend to make the skin secrete oils and sweat, and it is there even if you can’t see it. It is recommended that you dab your face with blotting paper and remove all the excess makeup that may be moving around, thanks to these secretions, to keep the pores open and breathing . Do a touch-up only after dabbing. This will not only keep your skin healthier but will also make your touched-up makeup last longer.

WATERPROOF EVERYTHING The most obvious aspect of summer is sweat. You can be sure that you’ll be sweating more than usual, which means the chances of your make-up staying in place are automatically lower than they would be in other seasons. You may find yourself dabbing it away constantly, taking away a little bit of your make-up each time. So, to further reduce the number of times you may need to touch up, ensure that your makeup products are waterproof wherever possible. Kohl, eyeliner, and mascara may not seem like they need to be waterproof, but you may end up with raccoon eyes unless they are.
SAVE THE DEEP COLOURS FOR OTHER SEASONS While all the previous tips are based on heat and practicality, this one is based entirely on fashion sense. For light, bright colours, or nude shades, summer is the right season. Deep, rich colours are best reserved for the less bright seasons. It is not recommendable to wear dark colours for two reasons: one is that darker colours attract more heat, and the other is that they do not flatter the shape or volume of your face in the summer.

FACE ROLLERS: ARE THEY WORTH BUYING? Thanks to bloggers and influencers, facial rollers seem to be everywhere and are taking social media by storm. Face rollers are tools used to massage the face. They usually have a smooth, cool surface and are available in a variety of materials, including: ▶ crystal, including jade, rose quartz, and amethyst; ▶ stainless steel (sometimes known as ice rollers); and ▶ plastic. Some of these materials are more durable than others. For example, crystals can chip or crack over time.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? The benefits of facial rollers will vary depending on what corner of the Internet you are on. But the claims mainly consist of: ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶
improved blood circulation; tone the skin; improve and resiliency of the skin; reduced puffiness; reduce wrinkles; reduce dark under-eye circles; minimised the presence of toxins in the skin; tighter pores.

TYPES OF FACE ROLLERS There are many types of facial rollers available on the market, so you may want to know where to start. Jade is one of the more common stones you will find in rollers. You will also find face rollers made of: ▶ rose quartz ▶ amethyst ▶ obsidian ▶ metal
Rose Quartz Face Roller
Jade and metal are naturally cold materials and will not need to be stored in the refrigerator to give a cooling sensation to your skin. Jade may also not be as smooth as some other stones, but this added friction may benefit contouring. It is softer than rose quartz, so a quartz roller may last longer and not break as easily if dropped. Rose quartz can hold its temperature (hot or cold) for an extended period. So if you want a colder roller and are planning to use it for more than a minute, your best option is quartz that has been cooled in the fridge. Traditionally, amethyst is said to help purify your skin, and it may help treat acne. However, more research is needed to support this claim.

HOW TO USE A FACIAL ROLLER The following are suggested steps for using a facial roller: 1. Apply a facial oil, serum, or moisturiser that is slippery enough. If you do not have a lubricant, the tool can pull or tug your skin, which may actually contribute to wrinkles. 2.
Start at your neck and roll upward. For best results, roll up, not back and forth.
3. Roll from your jawline to your ear on both sides using gentle pressure. You can continue this motion all the way from your jaw to your cheekbone. 4. Roll from your forehead up toward your hairline, only in the upward direction. It is the same gentle pull you would use if you were pulling your skin taut and wrinkle-free with your hands. 5.
Roll flat over your eyebrows horizontally, which may feel relieving if you have a headache.
Without a roller, you can also perform facial massage or facial exercises, sometimes called “face yoga”. You can give yourself an at-home facial without any tools

HOW TO PREVENT LEG CHAFING AND PRODUCTS TO HELP
Irritating, bothersome, and painful are just a few words people who have experienced leg chafing have used to describe the widespread issue. Defined by WebMD as the often painful result of skin rubbing against skin or clothing, some of the common areas where chafing occurs are the underarms, groin, thighs, and nipples. The focus of this article, however, is leg chafing. As the days get warmer and people become more active, sweating more, the skin-toskin contact between the legs can lead to skin irritation or chafing. You can experience leg chafing from working out or just walking to a park. A few suggestions to prevent chafing include staying dry, lubricating, and dressing right. But, just in case you find yourself dealing with leg chafing this summer, the general recommendation is to stop the action that led to the chafing, dry the area and apply petroleum jelly to help soothe the area. Chafing should heal in a few days. Also, check out these five products that can help with leg chafing.

OUR 5 SENSES: THE GATEWAYS TO WELLBEING AND PROSPERITY
“We don’t trust our five senses; we rely on our critics and educators, all of whom are failures in the realm of creation.” — Henry Miller
Technology has become our best friend. Computers, tablets, and smartphones are ever-present, and we seemingly cannot live without them. We have the advantage of super fast and effective communication, yet, at the same time, we are often overwhelmed with information, messages, images, and news we receive. Our senses are overstimulated by outside noise, with our inner voices and intuition being silenced and even blocked.
We enjoy what technology offers us. Yet, we need to remember that all of these gadgets are to support our work and our routines, not to make us susceptible to their influence, taking over our natural ability to feel what is around us with our five senses.

Our sensory abilities channel our perception of the world in a very personal way that technology never will. They are a gift of nature that we, more often than not, do not pay special attention to. Our five senses give us the ability to hear, touch, taste, see and smell through a connection with the sensory nervous system in our bodies. When our senses are sharp, we feel deeper. We connect with the environment around us, are sensitive to its cues, intensely collect and analyse the data we receive from our surroundings, and create a meaningful relationship with nature for our physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Keeping our five senses engaged, at the best intensity and agility, lets us connect with our inner voice while experiencing the most of our surroundings. Our senses are our signalling mechanism helping us recognise positives from possibly harmful situations. Our senses often work together, crisscrossing information to identify an object or surroundings, delivering all the sensations. Mental stimulation is good; however, mental noise is not. Our body and mind need to rest. Spending time in nature and feeling intensely with our senses gives us a sense of fulfilment and optimises our cognitive and physical performance.
SENSE OF SIGHT “For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” — Vincent Van Gogh Keep your eyes wide open. The natural human predator stereoscopic vision lets us see threedimensionally with the ability to recognise millions of colours. Colours play a significant role in our life. A red hue might alert us to danger, but it is also a colour of passion. Food served on red plates or red-related shades, such as orange or yellow, increases our appetite. Pink makes a dessert feel sweeter than it really is. Green correlates with healthy and nutritional values; thus, our meal served on a green plate will add visually to us feeling positive about what we eat.
The sense of sight is considered one of the most vital senses, with humans often depending on it more than on any other sense. How can we improve our sense of sight? It is important to see what is around us, register the details, and notice any movement or changes in the landscape. Therefore, keep your head up and look ahead when you walk, seeing everything around you. If you feel that your eyes are tired, take a short break, and close your eyes for a moment to give them some rest. Use an anti-glare shield to cover your computer screen to protect your eyes against harmful particles of the digital screen. Read and work in a well-lit space. Wear sunglasses that block 99-100 percent UVA and UVB rays to protect your eyes. Eat nutritional food such as fish, nuts, legumes, seeds, carrots, sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, and leafy greens to support your eyes.

SENSE OF HEARING “Try listening with more than just your ears.” — Craig D Lounsbrough We multitask when we listen. We can simultaneously pick up various sound vibrations from different sources, registering equally loud sounds and whispers. Hearing is a very powerful sense that keeps us joyous or out of danger, depending on what sounds are around us. The sound of an alarm or some noise will immediately wake us up and prompt us to action. Listening to nice music or the voice of a loved one calms us and relaxes us. What we hear influences our mood and frame of mind. How can we sharpen our sense of hearing? Listen to the nearby sounds as much as to the ones from a distance. Pick up on the chirping of the birds, the soft rustle of trees, and the swishing of wind. Pay attention to the sound of the current in the nearby stream or river. Take time to pick up on the rhythmic movement of the sea or ocean waves. Alternatively, tune in to the recorded sounds of nature when you read, meditate, or do home chores, alternating with classical or soft jazz music. To prevent hearing loss, be sure to listen to any sounds or music at a lower volume. Food rich in omega-3 and omega-6 and whole grain products, bananas, broccoli, and dark chocolate can deliver the necessary ingredients to support our sense of hearing.

SENSE OF SMELL “Of the five senses, the smell is the one with the best memory.” — Rebecca McClanahan When we breathe in and out, we register thousands of scents. This sensory organ is connected directly to the brain. We remember scents from our childhood, and each time we come across the same or similar fragrances, we feel good. It might be the scent of food or the aroma of candles or flowers that bring powerful memories and a feeling of wellbeing. Highly concentrated odours cause deeper stimulation, as they might also be a sense of warning, whereas sweet-smelling, perfumed scents help us to feel at ease. Each of us produces pheromones, our specific scent that helps us attract others and bond with our loved ones. How can we refine our sense of smell? Bark on trees, leaves, and flowers spoil us with plenty of fragrances, bringing intensified scent when we rub petals or leaves together. When you buy or receive flowers, delight yourself with their scent. You can purchase fresh herbs at the local market or pick them up at the park or forest. Learn about them and recognise them by their aroma. Get creative with your cooking by adding herbs and spices to your dishes making each meal delightfully appetising with aromatic flavours.

SENSE OF TOUCH “Touch comes before sight, before a speech. It is the first language and the last, and it always tells the truth.” — Margaret Atwood We have receptors all over the body. Our skin is the largest organ sensitive to the most gentle and delicate touch, pressure, and temperature, with the receptors in our fingertips, lips, and soles of feet being the most perceptive. How can we intensify our sense of touch?
Connect with and feel nature. Touch the bark of the various trees to recognise differences. Walk barefoot on the grass in the park or on the sand along the seashore. Dip your feet in the water at the coast of the river or sea. Touch plants to feel their texture. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin well moisturised; and thus, more sensitive to every touch.

SENSE OF TASTE “One cannot develop taste from what is of average quality but only from the very best.”
or sodium. Products such as coffee, green tea, cocoa, cranberries, kale, or other green veggies might taste bitter.
How can we enhance our sense of taste?
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
We have ten thousand taste buds in our mouth to experience the most delicate flavours, with the brain processing the information about the food we eat. There are five basic tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and savoury.
Eat slowly and deliberately, indulging in every bite and feeling the taste. Try new flavours by eating food from the kitchens around the world. When you travel, order local food and learn about the ingredients, herbs, and spices used in the dishes to get familiar with their unique tastes.
Sweet taste is derived from sugar or sugarinfused products such as sweets or fruits. Citrus fruits and vinegar deliver a sour taste with a salty flavour coming directly from salt
Drink various herb and fruit teas and coffees from different regions, recognising their distinctive aromas. Buy fresh, good quality food rich in nutrients and sensational in taste.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR SENSES
CONNECT WITH YOUR SIXTH SENSE
“No idea is conceived in our mind independent of our senses.” — Albert Einstein
“Our five senses are incomplete without the sixth, a sense of humour.” — William Arthur Ward
If we take care of our senses, our senses will take care of us, giving enhanced experiences and a deep connection with our feelings. Our intuition and gut feeling will be that much sharper, receiving signals from our senses. We will learn to recognise our emotions and sensations, either about people or situations, and act on a hunch. We will combine our smarts with our inner feelings for the ultimate analysis and decisions.
What are all the sensations and sensitivities without a sense of humour? Sometimes, even a big problem or a mistake can be turned into a humorous situation, especially if we look at the issue from a distance of time. Whether the occasion to laugh comes from the outside circumstances or personal mishaps, we can always have a healthy chuckle. After all, laughter is the best medicine.
Unplug from technology and connect with nature to sharpen the senses. Go outside and consciously practise natural sensitivity.
Indulge in all your five senses by adding your sixth sense, your sense of humour!

NO EQUIPMENT… NO EXCUSES You can use your body weight to exercise anytime, anywhere. Think push-ups, squats, planks, and burpees! Not having access to a gym is no excuse.
LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO GET IN MORE ACTION Something as mundane as the supermarket can help you get in more cardio action. See how quickly you can push the cart around the aisles while enjoying the air conditioning.

STAY HYDRATED
Water is essential all year round, especially in the summer when the heat can lead to dehydration much faster. While working out, drink about 300ml of water every 20 minutes. After exercise, drink at least another 300 ml of water. Wear loose, light colour clothes. Wearing cotton clothes in summer helps absorb the sweat quickly.
4 5
CHOOSE HEALTHY SNACKS
Even if you go on vacation, don’t succumb to tempting snacks. Look for healthy options on the buffet line and save your calorie splurge for a local speciality dish that you can’t get just anywhere.
SWIM FOR ENDURANCE
Running may be great for cardiovascular endurance, but it is also hard on the joints, ligaments, and muscles of the body. Instead, cool off during the day’s heat and simultaneously complete a vigorous workout by swimming laps in the local pool. Thirty minutes of swimming will help keep you in shape, and because the water is so refreshing, you won’t feel bogged down by sweat.

SUMMER FOODS FOR HEART HEALTH Your heart is a finely tuned machine. To keep it running in top form, you need to give it heart-healthy fuel. One of the best things you can do to manage and improve your heart health, or overall health, is to be mindful of the foods you eat. A healthy diet and regular exercise are two of the simplest ways to reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The school of thought that eating healthy is boring and healthy foods aren’t as flavourful as less nutritious alternatives couldn’t be further from the truth. Summer is the perfect season to incorporate more whole foods into your diet, like fruits and vegetables. To help you get started, here are five summer foods for heart health you should add to your next grocery list:
70
Out & About Magazine
AVOCADOS Avocados are one of the most nutrientdense foods available. Ounce for ounce, they are among the richest in fibre, folate, potassium, vitamin E, and magnesium among all fruits. This nutrition profile makes it an excellent superfood for those trying to improve their heart health. A mashed avocado provides a healthy alternative to mayonnaise or butter. You can use it alone as a dip, spread it on sandwiches, add slices to wraps or burritos, or add chunks to salads.
TOMATOES With so many varieties, tomatoes are one of the most versatile foods on our list. Most tomatoes are a good source of lycopene, an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage and may help lower bad cholesterol. Add some fresh tomatoes to your next salad, and serve them sliced alongside your eggs at breakfast, or if you’re feeling ambitious, try making homemade pasta sauce.
SALMON
No one wants to heat their house in the middle of summer by counting on their oven every day, which means summertime is grilling season. Avoid red meats like beef, which are high in saturated fats, and opt for chicken, vegetable proteins, and fish. The unsaturated fats in fish, such as salmon, actually have health benefits. Eating 113 g of wild salmon twice a week provides you with an adequate intake of essential omega-3 fatty acids, which can help lower the risk of sudden cardiac-related illnesses, reduce blood clot formation, inhibit plaque growth along artery walls, and decrease triglycerides.
DARK LEAFY GREENS
You may think you’re doing yourself a favour by skipping the cheeseburger and choosing a salad instead. But, not all salads are as nutritious as many like to believe. When selecting greens for your salad base, go for nutrient-dense dark leafy greens like red or green leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, spinach, collards, turnip greens, and Swiss chard or spinach. These varieties are full of fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. But don’t feel as though dark leafy greens are only for salads. Get creative with how you incorporate them into your diet. Add a handful of spinach to your morning smoothie, add them to your next hot or cold pasta, or ditch the sandwich bread for large leaf lettuce as a wrap.
FRESH FRUIT
Fresh, seasonal fruits are arguably one of the best parts of summer. Fruit-rich diets can help lower your blood pressure, and the water in fresh fruits keeps you hydrated on hot summer days. Melons, berries, peaches, plums, and cherries are all nutrient-rich summertime fruits. If possible, head to your local farmer’s market or purchase directly from a local farmer to get fruit at its peak flavour. While incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet this summer (and throughout the year) is a great way to improve your heart health, it’s important to consider how you prepare them. For the maximum nutritional benefits, try to eat foods in their natural form, as they come from the ground. Out & About Magazine

For the Culture
SELF-PIVOTING:TIME TO TRANSFORM A significant part of the evolution of the human species and the myriad of other life forms on Earth is the ability to change or transform to survive. As the world turns on its axis, as it pivots, so have we. We have changed to match the situations we face, sometimes unintentionally. Yet, many of us are unwilling to change or shift to self-transform. Being or feeling that we are stagnant results from a failure to swivel away from outdated approaches to decision-making that we hold dear for far too long. Again, one of the worst feelings we can experience is stagnation, the feeling that you are not moving or your scope for change is limited.

105
I believe people are afraid of change. I’ll be totally honest; I am too. Change can be intimidating and scary. Yet, if, as a people, we are not prepared to change, then we must be ready to fail and lead a stagnant existence. If, as a people, we are not ready to change, then the saying: “Only the strong will continue” will not be a mantra or motto to lead a wholesome life.
In the art of self-pivoting, our earnings and profit margins grow. The more we spend the negative thoughts from our mental coffers, it cleanses or deweeds the roots of amateurish decision-making skills and bathes ourselves clean of people who hinder our relatability to positivity. It is essential to be guided by the fact that change is necessary for us to profit and transform.
Sometimes we must test our perceived limits to remind ourselves that there are no limits.
By contrast, spending negativity on our mental reserves gives us more wiggle room to accommodate more positive thoughts, which, in turn, will provide more positive outcomes. In this model of attempting to transform self, prosperity is predicated on the value we put on the product, which is ourselves. Our earnings or our earning potential comes from how we can invest in happiness, peace, and reason. It is also pertinent to accentuate the attitude of observing ourselves from the outside.
In the business world, great leaders are seen as people who are not averse to change in contributing to their company’s current or future successes. Presumably, these individuals have the company’s best interest at heart since they are always in the market for profit, investment, opportunity, the enactment of vision, and targets or projections being met. The tenets mentioned above are critical to the success of any great business model, but could these tenets be used in a self-transformative model? What does real change look like?
Profit/Prosper Firstly, to overcome the fear of being self-transformed, we must set ourselves up to profit and prosper. A profit is a relationship between how much you earn and how much you spend.

Sometimes we need to change our perspective to amplify our need for happiness, intensify our inner peace, and pivot to change our reason for living or leading in our existence. We cannot travel the same road to avoid potholes if the road is filled with potholes. Change is necessary; hence we need to house it to profit and prosper as we self-pivot. How much do we spend on seeking a new perspective of self? How much are we willing to invest in transforming ourselves?
Investment Secondly, businesses only invest to make a profit. They only invest to make a positive transformation of their outcomes, visibility, and success. In the art of selfpivoting, investments are the opportunities created for transformation. It is significant to point out that in our quest for transformation, time is our asset. Time is the item invested in creating intrapersonal wealth for us to prance on the dancefloor of interpersonal relationships. People have the uncanny ability to gravitate to or shy away from how we use our investment of time. Importantly, we must also appreciate that time is a futuristic concept. Yet, time as an asset must be valued, making the right decisions now to make our future brighter. The past’s only value now is to teach us how not to do things that created adverse outcomes and retest circumstances that could have been better utilised if we used our asset of time better. Using time as our asset for transformation is not about being consummate or perfect since perfection is graded on a timeless scale; however, our intent should be us using the time to create intrapersonal and interpersonal wealth. There is no time or asset better than now to invest in self-pivoting to the alluring quest for self-transformation. It is time to invest from the perspective of seeing ourselves from the outside looking in. Out & About Magazine

Vision Likewise, a man without a vision is a man walking a road to nowhere. Nowhere is somewhere we can find ourselves if we fail to aim for selftransformation. As a model for success and positive future outcomes, we must create and maintain the habit of thinking and using wisdom to direct our path to pivot for a better day and way. Vision is important because it gives us clarity and purpose. It is also central to reaching short-, medium- and long-term goals and helping us stay focused and ready to tackle problems or hurdles set to befall us or hinder us from changing or growing. Being a visionary also helps us be creative, determined, and dedicated to our intrapersonal advancement because we already have a heading for transformation. We must commit to changing our outlook since a change is the only constant experience we will ever have to deal with in our lifetime.
In addition, our intrapersonal vision should accommodate the interpersonal relationships in which we participate. We must have a vision for how we intend to treat people and how we intend to be treated. This is because relationships, in my opinion, are not solely physical interactions. Still, they come bearing gifts of spiritual connectivity, emotional and mental stability, and creating opportunities for better social and physical health.
I extend this message to encourage us that life by itself is an educational institution that aims to educate us, whether we choose to accept it or not. In the continuous transformation process towards our best self for connecting to our changing world, it is essential to note that learning is not always about instant gratification. Sometimes it is crucial to accommodate struggle. To add, earning doesn’t always have to be financial since experiences and overcoming obstacles are just as, if not more valuable to our lives. We must be opportunistic but not unscrupulous. Our aim must not be to outfox others, but we are to aim to get the most out of situations that will cause us to learn for us to earn from the circumstances we will face. Therefore, we must be prepared to make the best of our situation to pivot to our best selves. Thankfulness/Targets
Opportunity
Additionally, for us to pivot successfully, we must be thankful for our situation and have genuine targets. There is a hidden treasure in the halls of people who are gracious and grateful for what they have. It could be the universe appeasing them for the good and positive energy they give off for being thankful for what they have because the future is filled with endless possibilities. Seemingly, these people have targets without aiming for anything.
Furthermore, we must be prepared to create our own opportunities for pivoting to a better us. Essentially, it is not enough to seek opportunities if we are not prepared to make our own.
Over time, research shows that people who show gratitude tend to have better health, maintain strong relationships, overcome adversity easily, and relish or make the most of their circumstances,
Pivoting to a better us involves helping others to appreciate and attempt to create a lane of self-transformation for themselves. Hence, a man with a vision is a man walking a road to selftransformation and sustainability.
108
Again, opportunities are tied to how we invest our assets, which we previously established is time. Since our assets are continuous, it is in our best interest to use the set of circumstances we are faced with to profit and prosper based on the vision carved out. A wise old man once told me, “As you learn, so do you earn.” This was about the importance of going to school to become economically viable.

whether good or bad. These people are the epitome of, “A brilliant learning is a brilliant earner.” Coincidentally, people who are thankful for what they have are better suited to find solutions. They find it easy to target opportunities and go for them. These people are examples of what a self-transformed individual should look like.
We must learn or take the opportunity to value the essence of being thankful. The universe will keep giving to us because thankfulness breeds attitudes for success; success brings more success. Let us, therefore, open our cups and be enlightened by being more thankful for what we now have. This attitude will bring us to new altitudes because of our positive attitude.
I mean, why worry when you can work to change the situation or outcome? Again, time is their asset; hence their patience is otherworldly because they know they will eventually reach their fullest potential to match their current reality.
Pivoting to be a better version of ourselves is about enlightenment and living in and for a purpose. We live in an ever-changing world, a world that will not slow down to babysit our emotions, talents, egos, or feelings at any given time.
