Letter from the Editor We are counting the days until the Oscar’s arrive at the end of February and working with our team tirelessly on the best way to celebrate the entertainment side of the Super Bowl. We are not going to even try to understand the mystery of how the nominations are decided, but we are proud to say that BELLO mag is the one place where we do make certain that all the great talent are featured, no matter the race, gender, or sexual preference... Our only true requirement, to get on the cover, is to have a lot of talent, and ones we believe will attract the attention of everyone who discovers them. Caity Lotz is one of the most talented people in which we have already featured inside BELLO mag a few years ago, and we are so happy we finally got to play with her yet again for this cover shoot and exclusive interview. We had such a hard time choosing the best image to go on the cover, as there were so many great ones. And yes, there is the fashion... as spring is just around the corner, we made sure to bring you some amazing fashion inspirations for both the men and women alike. Enjoy. INTRO Writing this intro while watching Super Bowl 50. After 8 years living here in the US from Paris, we have finally given into America’s most favorite sports events of the year, and for us, it is the because of the right mix of creative ads and the amazing, world-famous halftime show... Ahhhh, and I guess, the game as well.... This fashion issue generates the latest of a long series of all the entertainment and fashion issues mixed together, and this time, we picked the amazing Caity Lotz to grace the cover. She is gorgeous, amazing, and so talented... a dancer, a martial artist, an actress, and the list goes on and on and on. Also, we picked a few great inspirational spring fashion stories as we are slowly getting ready for the rest of the world to join us here in Los Angeles to experience this amazing weather we have been experiencing lately. Please be sure to let us know, what you think about this issue and who and what you would like to see in upcoming ones by tagging @BELLOmag on all social media platforms. “If the shoe fits” BY: STEVEN CARVER

DESIGNER FOOTWEAR IS A WOMEN’S GAME AND EACH PLAYER IS IN IT TO WIN. NOT COUNTING HIGH FASHION BRANDS WHICH HAVE EXPANDED FROM APPAREL INTO ACCESSORIES, THE NUMBER OF STRAPPY STILETTOS ON OFFER CONTINUALLY EXPANDS ON A SEASONAL BASIS.

Their names – Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo – are synonymous with vertiginous heels that both accentuate the stance and step of the wearer. And while many of the aforementioned names have also designed for men, they’re primarily women’s designers. In this case, guys are relegated to second class style citizens. But is there a market for high-end footwear for men? It’s not as if they’ve suddenly stopped wearing shoes.

Luckily, those salivating for some slipons have Louis Leeman. Presided over by Louis Leeman and his wife Erica Pelosini, the duo initially met while studying at Polimoda (the International Institute of Fashion Design & Marketing based in Florence, Italy) and discovered their love of fashion while falling in love with each other. With Leeman working alongside Italian shoemakers and Pelosini assisting at Vogue Japan, they eventually left their former positions and launched the Louis

Leeman line in 2012. And while working on their namesake brand, they also lent their talents to others: Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli and since 2013, to shoe maven Cesare Cadasei to develop his men’s collections. Glancing at their line, craftsmanship is part of Louis Leeman’s credo. From loafers and lace-ups, slippers, sneakers and sandals, each pair is made with Tuscan artisans, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. Top notch leathers and fabrics

are colored, polished, brushed and woven, while embellishments of the metal (chains, clasps and toe kicks) and sparkly (i.e. Swarovski) variety add visual and textural interest. Even though the brand has a growing fan base, it’s the red carpet where Louis Leeman stands out. Celebrities from the worlds of film (Robert Downey Jr.,

Jared Leto), TV (Jim Parsons, Terrence Howard), music (Justin Bieber, John Legend) and sports (Lewis Hamilton) have also taken a shine to the shoes.

palate of the décor is an ideal backdrop to the striking footwear and a physical manifestation of years of dedication and design culminate in one place.

And while the brand has a growing list of global stockists, their wares are best represented in the opening of their first flagship store New York’s Madison Avenue in 2015. The hushed tones and soft

For those looking for something beyond a traditional lace-up, there’s a bit of bling at Louis Leeman. For the others who want a simple slip-on, it’s best to keep on looking.

Starlettos are the creation of Sydney-based shoe-lover, Ilde Naismith-Beeley, who came up with the idea when she was planning her own wedding a few years ago and faced a major shoe dilemma. “I love shoes, particularly high strappy sandals and stiletto heels. My wedding was the ultimate occasion to really go to town, said Ilde, but with a ceremony and reception that encompassed a bush walk, rock FASHION issue - BELLOmag.com

“I searched around for something that could allow me to wear any shoes on grass and other uneven surfaces, while still looking glam, Starlettos were born! but there was nothing out there to help me. My friends said they faced similar problems - and not just at

More than a man’s dress shirt BY: STEVEN CARVER

A DRESS SHIRT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF A MAN’S WARDROBE. MADE TO BE WORN UNDER A SUIT, IT ADDS POLISH WHEN CRISPLY PRESSED AND ACCOMPANIED WITH A TIE; CUFFLINKS ARE NOT ALWAYS REQUIRED. FROM WHITE TO STRIPES (AND EVERY COLOR AND PATTERN IN BETWEEN), THERE’S ONE FOR EVERY MAN, REGARDLESS OF AGE, SIZE, OR TASTE. IT’S DEMOCRATIC FASHION.

For the women who wore dress shirts, it was originally seen as a subversive gesture to society’s pigeonholing of gender, but it took the power dressing of the 1980s to make them commonplace. FASHION issue - BELLOmag.com

While climbing the work ladder, women needed to look like “one of the boys” in order to be a part of the team. It was a compelling argument of what was masculine and/or feminine;

everyone looked similar. Now, with the resurgence of gender crossing norms in fashion, the appropriation of male/ female designs isn’t relegated to any specific article of clothing. 48

Looking at palmer//harding, a line launched in 2012 by Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding, the deconstruction of the traditional dress shirt is their métier. The Central Saint Martins-trained duo creates variations of the wardrobe staple through innovative cuts and drapes, morphing it into something even more desirable. While showing their seasonal collections at London Fashion Week, the duo has expanded beyond its one key piece and looked towards completing a modern woman’s wardrobe. For spring 2016, the collection looks to contemporary

49

artist Nathan Peter’s work of dissection and distillation. Done in a palate of white, blush pink, baby blue, sand (with touches of yellow and navy), palmer// harding reconstructed elements of each garment, giving them a twist on the ordinary. The draping of the fabrics (most being cottons, linens, leather and lace) unraveled on the body; shirts, skirts, dresses and jackets appeared to be peeling away layers. Textiles were de-threaded which added movement to long and linear silhouettes (often cinched with thin belts to gently add shape); small touches that make a big impact on femininity.

But it’s not all about the runway. With the exposure in international media outlets and a growing list of global retailers carrying their wares, they’ve also caught the attention of the fashion industry with a NEWGEN sponsorship by the British Fashion Council and Topshop, and the ANDAM awards (as a finalist). Little by little, their designs are being recognized by everyone – press and the public. So, at the end of the day, when is a men’s shirt just a shirt? When it’s also made for a woman.

ASS-KICKING ASSASSIN Caity Lotz on her standout role in “Legends of Tomorrow” WORDS MICHELLE GANNEY PHOTOS BY TED SUN

CAITY LOTZ GRACED OUR SCREENS ON JANUARY 21ST AS THE SKILLED, BADASS ASSASSIN ‘SARA LANCE’ IN “LEGENDS OF TOMORROW”. FROM HER EPIC ROLE IN THIS SHOW, TO HER DREAM CO-STAR AND DREAM ROLE, LOTZ REVEALS ALL FOR BELLO.

Congratulations on “Legends of Tomorrow”! How’s the feedback been since it aired on January 21st?

What’s the atmosphere like with your cast members when you’re not filming?

spend tonnes of time and money on the fight scenes.

So far so good everyone seems to be liking the show. It’s a pretty crazy show, really far out and weird but I think people like that about it. It’s a lot of fun and it’s been really cool.

Really good actually. We get along really well we were hanging out last night. We’re kind of like a family too because we’re all out here away from our friends and family so it’s nice to have each other. The hours can be long and it can be hard.

Is there an actor you’d particularly like to work with in the future?

What’s your dream role to play in the future?

Do you have a saying or quote that you live by?

I would love to play something really transformative where you can watch it and you don’t even recognise yourself at all. I’d also love to do a big studio action movie. It would be really cool to

Don’t take it personally. When reading reviews or people’s comments on Twitter, for me, I don’t take any of it personally, I don’t hold on to any of that. I just try to not take any of that seriously.

So tell me a little bit about your character in Legends of Tomorrow. Sara is an international assassin and she’s pretty badass. She’s a little bit of a tortured soul. On this show [Legends of Tomorrow] versus “Arrow” she gets to be a bit lighter and have more fun. She’s an ass-kicking assassin though. 51

I’d like to work with Tom Hardy. I think he’s fantastic. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time. He’s such a fearless actor so I think he’d be fun to work with.
