EDITOR’S
note,
APRIL, 11, 2016
Every issue I edit, always has a heart. An element at its core that has inspired the creation of the entire issue, and all of the pages that fill it. This week, that element was ART. Our coverboy, Catfish’s Nev Schulman carried the element of ART in him when he arrived at his cover-shoot in Los Angeles, CA. The TV personality that I’d watch on television on MTV lit every frame up with a vibrant energy grounded in dance, which he studied growing up from a very early age. He isn’t immediately associated with the word ART or often referenced to as an “artist,” but he showed those colors during my time with him. In addition to profiling Nev, who’s hit TV show has helped reveal the cruel world of online-love and attention, I also spoke to actress Eden Sher, a spunky actress on a huge television show that manages to stay off the internet 90% longer than any of the rest of us do. Of course, highlighting this issue’s “core-element” are Ali Franco and Rob Doyle. Two artist from complete opposite sides of the world, with the same artistic approach and technique, creating different beauties in their own right. These two brilliant minds will debut our latest repeat-feature; “Straight From The Mouth.” In which artists, with little to no editing, tell us about their art, and process as they know it to be. Keep Creatin and finding art in everything and everywhere. Something I’m equally excited about is our new design and aesthetic. 2016 has a been a year of changes at BELLO and in keeping with the year’s theme, issue #115 debuts a new look for the magazine, which includes a spanking new Sleek Logo..

PHOTOGRAPHY NATE HOFFMAN FASHION LISA CERA TEXT & DIRECTION DIO ANTHONY
t 31-years-old, Nev Schulman is one on the long list of young pioneers in our Digital age. After a beautiful mistake of online-love, the New Yorker helped shape a generation thanks to his discovery and subsequent identification of the now all too-popular Catfish Syndrome. With a touchy book, an addictive series on MTV and the arrival of another, Schulman’s journey proves he is the original millennial.
Before the world met Nev in 2010, he was living in New York city, as he puts it, heading in no “particular track,” and on a dull-day he received an e-mail from what he thought was a little girl, praising his photography work. A photo she had seen of his on her recent visit to the big apple. What would follow in the ensuing year would change his life and that of tech-heads everywhere. It would change the face of online-love. Forever. His life in the last five years to bystanders and those who see him on his docs-series may seem like a big roll of catfish (no pun intended). For Nev, it’s hard to place a timeline on the events that have spiraled into so much good. Reflecting on the social-issue that made the word “catfish” become one of the most used words in internet-lingo, Shulman dishes on what its like swimming with the fish. DA: I think people are going to remember you because you’ve given a name to something that’s so alive in our society. People are able to identify this easily now. It wasn’t like it wasn’t happening. It was happening but it was being talked about it behind closed doors—it was embarrassing. It was taboo. Not that many people were eager to discuss doing it or having it done to them. Then all of the sudden, it happened to someone, and there was a film about it, and it was like, that actually happened to me too. And now I know the words to use to describe it. DA: In your book Nev, In Real Life, I love how in the book you took us back to your life on the day you were Catfished. How do you think life would have continued had you not gotten a message that day? I was definitely not on any particular track. I probably would’ve kept running my little film company, making Bar mitzvah and wedding videos. Which I wasn’t really happy doing anymore. But it was good source SPRING issue - BELLOmag.com
of income and it was relatively easy. Although, I knew I didn’t want end up being a 40-year-old guy with a bar mitzvah videography [Laughs]. That’s not me. I joke with a touch of sincerity, that if this catfish hadn’t happened I’d probably be in prison or dead. I needed something to happen to me. To sort of knock me on my ass, and really sort of teach me a lesson in humility, and oddly, collect all of my strange, unique traits that I’ve accumulated over the years. Fate or the universe, just put it in front of me and said, hey, this could be something if you take advantage of it. Make it work, because it can work for you. DA: The initial catfish situation happened over six years ago. But with your work you seem to be reliving since then. In some ways, it exists in a very far away, past life. Because, when you live through something that’s like that, it’s one thing. It’s a memory that you never tell, or maybe it comes up in a story and maybe it doesn’t. But when you live through it and it’s on camera, and those nine-months then get turned into a film that you then watch and discuss over and over again. Your memory almost gets replaced with the film, and the sound bites that you end up repeating over, and over again to tell people about it. So, it almost extended those nine-months of my life, into the last five-years. DA: What relationship do you have with your catfish? We have very little communication. I still feel like there’s a connection between us. I’d like to be more in touch with Angela. Once or twice a year she’ll check in and me know how she’s doing. I wanted to her to be a part of the show. Someone we could callin if we were stuck or needed counsel. But she kindly told me over e-mail once, that Catfish was my thing now, and I respect
that. She never wanted to go into showbiz or be in a film. But she understood the importance of it at the time and gave us her blessing on the film. DA:There are so many episodes now. Do you feel like the stories have changed now that they’re televised? There have a been a few episodes now that I think have slipped through the cracks in terms of people wanting to get on the show. Even people who have constructed their relationship specifically to appeal to the structure of our show. With that said, I’m constantly amazed that we are able to keep making the show. Because on one hand you think, technology has changed so much over the last four years. How’re people still being fooled? How are people still putting up with someone who can’t video-chat? But I constantly remind myself that, while the believability of each individual relationship seemingly gets tougher and tougher, because we’re dealing with young people, with snapchats and instagrams. But, what overwhelmingly persists and enables the show to continue, both being made and being watched and for us to still feel something new and relevant is that at the core, of all of these stories is the basic need and desire to be loved. People are willing to put themselves through, or ignore whatever they have to in order to feel that. That’s why we still have a show. There’s no good reason that you would talk to someone for more than a week without knowing for sure that someone is real. We usually have our checkoffs. In the end there’s always that same element of, well I don’t really want to find out if they’re fake because I’m so addicted to the attention I’m getting. DA: Is there any particular story and experience that has been the specially memorable?

We did an episode this season where we dealt with the supernatural. There were two people who had connected because the spirit of one of their parents had reached out to them. She didn’t know if the person telling her this was real or if what they were saying was. I have to admit, that the whole experienced fucked my head up a bit. These two people who had no reason knowing each-other, she wasn’t a medium for hire or anything like that. It was pretty intense but it changed my outlook on life, death and the universe. DA: Your new show Suspect. Is slightly different with a different structure, but the heart of catfish remains. Me and a new-co-host named IO,we similarly travel around the country helping people who solicit us because they are concerned, worried, or afraid that someone very close to them is keeping a big secret. it could be a health issue, it could be a psychological thing. It could be a relationship dynamic, it could be anything. They need help. and a wedge has been driven between their friend or lover. We help facilitate a reconnection. We inform ourselves as much as we can, about what might be happening or what could be the issue, so that we’re prepared to offer some support or help. DA: This seems like deeper step, after catfish. It’s definitely opened up the spectrum of issues that we can get into. Not the least of which is gender and sexuality, shame, mental illness and eating disorders. We had an episode that dealt with a very serious physical illness. It’s amazing what people will hide from the ones they love because they don’t want to be a burden or they don’t want to freak someone out.

S A YOUNG BOY I ENJOYED SPENDING TIME AT KATHY’S. I LOVED WATCHING THE LADIES WHO WERE GETTING THEIR WEEKLY $7.50 ROLLER-SETS AND COMB-OUTS. THE ULTIMATE RESULTS WERE THE QUINTESSENTIAL HAIRSTYLES OF THE TIMES; THE FLIP, THE BEATLE, THE BUBBLE. OR THE TIMELESS AND CLASSIC UP-DO WITH GRECIAN CURLS. IN 1963, MY AUNT KATHY OPENED KATHY’S BEAUTY NOOK IN MY HOMETOWN OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS. THERE, YOU CAN GET A HAIRCUT FOR $12.00, A PERM FOR $50.00 OR A NEW HAIR COLOR FOR $30.00. KATHY HAS NEVER ADVERTISED HER SALON, AND HER PRICES HAVE INCREASED LESS THAN $5 IN THE PAST 43 YEARS.

NFLUENCED BY AUNT KATHY AND HER SALON, I DECIDED TO BECOME A HAIRSTYLIST MYSELF. AT THE AGE OF 19 (INCIDENTALLY, THE SAME AGE SHE WAS WHEN SHE OPENED HER SALON), I WAS CHOSEN TO APPRENTICE AT THE PRESTIGOUS VIDAL SASSOON SALON. I WORKED THERE FOR THREE YEARS, BUT THEN DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO PURSUE MY DREAM OF A CAREER IN PHOTOGRAPHY. IN MY OF 2004, I DECIDED I WOULD LIKE TO CAPTURE KATHY AND ALL OF THE LOYAL WOMEN WHO STILL FREQUENT THE BEAUTY NOOK. MANY OF THESE WOMEN HAVE BEEN FAITFUL CLIENTS FOR MY AUNT, COMING ON A WEEKLY BASIS FOR OVER 40 YEARS. MANY OF THEM HAVE BROUGHT DAUGHTERS AND GRANDCHILDREN, SOME OF WHOM AREA ALL NOW CLIENTS AS WELL. OVER THE YEARS, I’VE HEARD NUMEROUS STORIES OF THE WOMEN’S MARRIAGES AND DIVORCES, THE BIRTHES OF GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN AND SO MANY MORE STORIES OF THEIR LIVES AND LOVES. SADLY OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS, SOME OF THESE WOMEN HAVE DIED.

DA: what materials do you use when creating these works? After 3 years of painting on an iPad, I bought the iPad pro on the release day on November 2015. The pencil arrived a few weeks later. This is now my tool of choice. Having spent 3 years painting with a simple rubber tipped stylus, I found the Apple Pencil a little tricky to get used to and stuck to the styluses for a little while. After a bit of trial and error, I realised how magical the Apple Pencil is and it’s made my life a whole lot easier. I only paint with Procreate App and I customised my own brush to create the painterly effect I was after. DA: Why this form of art rather than another? Cleanliness, speed and immediacy. Oh, and the undo button.
Art I’ve obviously used pencils for artwork in the past, and ink and even oil paint, but this new digital media fulfils my wishes perfectly. No mess, no waiting for paint to dry, no scanning and retouching. You can see the results instantly and you can paint pretty much anywhere as long as you have the iPad / Pencil with you.
DA: When did you start illustrating?
I can then instantly place them on twitter / Facebook / instagram, or very quickly add new works to my website (www.robdoyle.co.uk).
RD: I’ve always been a doodler I guess. I studied art in school and college, always doing reasonably well, but quite happily fell into graphic design as I felt there was more of a solid career there. Four years ago I bought my first iPad (3rd generation), mainly because I’m an apple fanboy, but also because I thought I might be able to use it artistically. I tried a few Apps and quickly realised that Procreate (www.procreate.si) was the one for me. Intuitive to use, fast and with great tools, I knew this was something I could use. I then spent 3 years filling up my spare time painting pictures of celebrities mainly for my own amusement. DA: Where does the inspiration come. How do you pick your subjects?
RD: My subjects are picked because they are people I greatly admire. Actors, singers, comedians, musicians, directors etc. I paint people that have influenced me or made me happy. It also helps that these people are often very cool and greatly admired by others too. This can help get a few retweets on twitter (https://twitter.com/robdoylecouk) and spread my reach, waiting for someone to spot my work and commission me. Once or twice, I’ve cynically painted someone just because they are popular on twitter (e.g. Harry Styles of One Direction), but I’ve never finished those images, or shown them, as my heart just wasn’t in it. PAINTING WITH MY HANDS AS OPPOSED TO DIGITALLY, IT’S VERY DIFFERENT. I LOVE TO PAINT, I LOVE THE SMELL OF PAINT, I LOVE TO TOUCH THE CANVAS, UNPACK IT, AND WATCH IT. IT’S A DIRECT DIALOGUE. AT THE SAME TIME, DIGITAL ART GIVES ME THE CHANCE TO EXPERIMENT MORE. IT ALSO ALLOWS ME TO TRAVEL AND WORK AT THE SAME TIME. IT’S MUCH EASIER TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR WORK ON A COMPUTER WHEN YOU’VE STARTED IT DIGITALLY.

T
he 24-year-old California native booked the starring role in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. Why would she anyway? Sher’s character and the family that she belongs to (The Hecks) will go down in “tube-history,” like the Jan Brady’s and Giligans. Lovable losers we just cant seem to get enough of every week. For Eden, spending so much time as excitable girl is something she’s both accustomed to and welcomes. I sat down and chatted with the funny girl to see what the woman behind Sue Heck was all about—Only I didn’t expect to get so many laughs in the process.
You have two brothers, is your relationship with them anything like that of Sue and her brothers? DA: I never had an older brother that tormented me like that. In fact, I was the one did that. My younger brother is a little like brick. He’s a total oddball. We got along when we were younger but naturally he went through a phase a teenager where he thought I was lame. As it happened with Brick. But after threats from my mother telling us we’d only have each other when she died, we’ve learned to love each other all the time (laughs). With more than 150 episodes filmed. Which ones come to mind? DA: They’re like milestones for me. How someone would remember their first love or, their first kiss, or the first time they felt true intense shame, (laughs). Or the moment where you realize you don’t care what anyone thinks anymore. In season one, there’s an episode where I had the first of what would be many Sue monologues, where I’m just spitting out words, very intensely. I remember it being so difficult for me. But I got through it and I did it. That was then the learning started. The moment where I thought, oh it does get harder than this. Of course, there’s also an episode from this season, where sue takes on a different interests. She begins to think about the world and gets all activisty. Which is great for me, (laughs). It’s an awesome moment for this fake person who I care so much about. It’s a milestone in her life, too. DA: Also, the day that I learned to hit my mark without looking at it was a huge day. It was around season five and I remember because there was a dog on set, and they were trying to get the dog to hit his mark. So essentially it
53
took me about five years to learn how to hit my mark like a dog, (laughs) DA: After more than 7 years on a show, I can image the lines begin to blur. How has sue seeped to your real life? The lines definitely blur for me. It’s so crazy. It’s this weird mesh of questioning reality, which can get so deep. But when you spend so much of your life behaving a certain way, when we’re filming I spend 12 hours a day behaving like this other person, that it’s completely unconscious in the way that it affects my attitude and behavior in real life. I don’t think sue had any of my dark loathing teenage years. But in general, her sense of not giving up, and her optimism and that naiveté of everyone being your friend, I don’t know if having that already in me informed my ability to bring that to a character. Or if I had to do that in order to bring it to life. It’s sort of like a constant question of which one came first. There are certain things that I maintain that I know are straight Eden and not Sue. But there are so many expressions, that have meshed. My friend’s will watch an episode and say, “oh that’s an Eden face.” And I’m like, is it? I think it was a Sue face. But when you’re making that face 12 hours a day, it’s kind of an Eden face after-all. (laughs). There’s the whole, this is me on the show and that’s me in real life. But, let’s be real. It’s still me. My body is doing the work— that is me. DA:It’s getting rarer and rare for show to last as long as yours has. Are you a fan of any old classic-long standing sitcoms? Remarkably, Everybody Loves Raymond was one of them. Do you remember living single?
DA: Of course. I loved that show. I absolutely loved that sitcom. As well as Will & Grace. The Simpsons as well. I think they’re going to go down in history for the jokes they make. DA: You’re not the biggest social media player or fan of the internet. How do manage that when it’s everywhere. I chose this career where attentions is included in it. And I’m comfortable with that. But it’s overwhelming when it’s involuntary and I’m not the one seeking it.I guess I’m sort of introverted, which is crazy to say! I never knew that about myself. DA: I love what you’ve done with the character of use through the years, makes me wonder. What was the original pitch for this girl? How’d you interpret that I have no idea, and I don’t think they knew either. I remember reading “Sue is your average girl. not memorable.” She wasn’t a loser, but just totally forgettable. But I think I got the role because I’m a horrible singer. Sue sings in the original pilot, and I think I did that right. (laughs). I’ll sit down and do a stream of conscious of how I felt throughout the week. Then I’ll play my favorite game Thesaurus. It’s an amazing game that’d recommend…for nobody. I’ll land on a word that I’d like to use. And in the game you find synonyms for the word and then synonyms for that word. Then I’ll just explore the different connotations and how they came to be a word. Sometimes, all with the idea of describing this feeling.

DA: You don’t look much like your character off screen. And since you’re not that much of a social media user not much of your life outside of sue heck is known. Who is Eden outside of work?
I spend a lot of time writing, and working on my book recently. I like taking classes. So right now I’m taking dance classes and improv classes and tap classes. I’m also really into comics, and I’m part of a comic-book club. I like to do stuff with my hands. My body hurts when I’m not creating. The internet is passive to me. ADVENTURE
Mats Pettersson & The Last Great Race On Earth Kiruna Sleddog Tours, Sweden
WRITTEN BY JON AND MARK NORRIS
THERE IS SOMETHING CONVOLUTED ABOUT BEING TOLD THERE IS A COLD SNAP ON THE WAY BY THE BUS DRIVER, WHEN DRIVING US TO THE ICE HOTEL IN NORTHERN SWEDEN. SIMMERING THOUGHTS OF THAT EXTRA PAIR OF THERMALS YOU PACKED COMES TO MIND, ACTUALLY. When landing in Kiruna around 13:00, it was minus 25 degrees, a temperature normally reserved for a freezer yet, relatively normal up in these parts of the world. Our agenda meant that we had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with reigning Swedish long-distance Mushing champion, Mats Pettersson, and his family of huskies just before he headed off to compete in this years Iditarod race in Alaska – known as ‘The Last Great Race on Earth’ by the dogsledding community worldwide. I can wholeheartedly say, it was one of the best afternoons of my entire life. We arrived at his camp, just outside Kiruna town centre, and were introduced to the gang, and of course to the dogs, all in outdoor kennels, with warm huts and name badges on their doors. Thankfully, the team provided us with extra clothing before setting off. We were taken out by a pack of 10 dogs, led by one male and one female. In our pack was an eighth month old puppy, who was undertaking his only exercise for the day, along with 2 other females, and 6 other males Huskies. Sam, one of Mats excellent guides, told us that each dog will eat the equivalent to 10 Big Mac’s a day when running for around 80-100km in training – our trip was about 20km in total. Riding through the open wilderness, with clear blue skies, lit up by the orange-like sunset made for a magical experience, one that was made so very personal by Mats and his team, from spending time inside the puppy area, to helping un-harnessing the dogs once finished.
Mats has just finished the Iditarod race for 2016 coming in, in 27th place out of nearly 100 finishers – an accomplishment that words cannot do justice for, I think. What made the experience so special to us was the personal nature of his camp, being right there with the dogs, almost as part of his team, and as animal lovers, we were able to see what delight the Huskies took to getting out in the wilderness and running. It is an experience that will never be forgotten, and really does make you see a different side to life – Mat’s and his Kiruna Sleddog Tours Team are definitely worth a visit. The Model Masterclass Inside the modeling industry with The Norris Twins WRITTEN BY MARK & JON NORRIS IG @the_norris_twins Twitter @thenorristwins
THE MODELLING INDUSTRY IS AN ELUSIVE BUSINESS THAT IS SHADOWED IN SECRACY AND MANY FABRICATED STORIES. WE MUST DRAW A DISTINCTION HERE BETWEEN THE MALE AND FEMALE MODELING SCENES, BECAUSE IN REALITY, THEY ARE BOTH QUITE DIFFERENT. WE WRITE ABOUT THE FORMER. We wanted to address some of the many issues we, as a figures in this industry, get asked frequently. The first topic is, what is it like to be a world leading figure in the modelling industry? The answer to this is; it really is a career with so much opportunity. We have met lifelong friends since we have been in this industry, travelled to obscure places on the planet, gathered knowledge from some of the most interesting people in the world, and most importantly, used this to inform our judgements on the world around us, and how we want to live our lives. It has given us an understanding to life, which I don’t think we would have had otherwise. There are downsides, and mostly this relates to society and how we view and judge beauty in 2016. As far as male models are concerned, I think that has actually changed over the past 1015 years. Brands have become a lot more diverse with their choice of male model. The industry has seen new trends develop, even for the biggest, most commercial brands. The internet has also changed how consumers view advertising and content, pushed out from the media. I think there is a place for all demographic types, and campaigns done by brands like Dove, can prove this. Do we enjoy being judged, based on our physical appearance? Well, I think this is 59

one thing that is changing most recently in the modelling world. Agencies and brands alike are keener than ever to take on models that have a strong personality, somehting that the audience can see, feel, and almost interact with. It makes integrated campaigns more interesting, and also, in the world of social media, it creates another level of interaction, and therefore, medium to be followed. In times before, the industry was very short-sighted in relation to casting, thankfully, this is changing, and models are being asked to develop a deeper craft to engage their productions, and audiences, too. How important is social media in todays modelling world? This is a very interesting topic area, and one that has become a talking point throughout the industry. In today’s society, models
aren’t just physical figures that make brands look good, but they are also responsible for their own brand image, and how this relates to the story of the brand who wants to hire them. Models get booked largely on their social media following, and whether this coincides with the brands idea of a campaign or backstory. It’s a much more technical process these days, with a more complex strategy. Modelling shouldn’t just be a vehicle for fame and fortune, but a vehicle for a life learning curve, that enables you to be inspired by some of the most creative and illustrious people in show business. It puts you in places you’d never dreamt of, and, with the right attitude, it can change your philosophy on life, and create a more wholesome person. April 2016 - BELLO

Los Angeles
A Walk Beyond The Stars BY DEE TRILLO Senior Lifestyle and Travel Editor| Dee@BelloMag.com| @HauteFrugalista
LOS ANGELES IS AMONG THE MOST POPULAR CITIES IN THE UNITED STATES. LOCATED ON THE SUNNY WEST COAST OF CALIFORNIA AND SURROUNDED BY THE PACIFIC OCEAN, THIS BEAUTIFUL SPOT IS AT THE TOP OF EVERYONE’S BUCKET LIST FOR NUMEROUS REASONS. THE FASCINATION WITH HOLLYWOOD’S HISTORY, VISITING THE MOVIES STUDIOS, HAVING RANDOM ENCOUNTERS WITH CELEBRITIES AND ENJOYING AN ALMOST PERFECT WEATHER ALL YEAR ROUND ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MAKE L.A. SO APPEALING TO TOURISTS. One of the many factors that I consider interesting about this city is how diverse it is. There is a variety of atmospheres that give visitors the opportunity to go beyond the notion that Los Angeles is a place solely dedicated to the entertainment industry. It is not possible to talk about this place without mentioning the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Disneyland, or Universal Studios Hollywood; however, there are countless other spots ready to be explored and discovered. From scrumptious food, crystal clear beaches, museums, amusement parks and unique street performances, I assure you that L.A. will give you plenty of options that will fit your every whim. Regardless if you want to be in the middle of it all, or isolate yourself for a few days, Los Angeles is full of surprises and great views ready to be shared!
Where Business & Pleasure Meet:
Given that a considerably large portion of the economy in the city comes from the film and TV industry, a lot of people visit Los Angeles with the purpose of doing business. However, it does not mean that having fun has to be left out of the equation. For this reason, the Luxe City Center Hotel in Downtown is the best option if you are traveling for work, or simply want

to stay at a walking distance from the hot
spots.
Perfectly located directly across from the Staples Center Arena and the Microsoft Theater, the Luxe City is a modern and beautifully decorated hotel that feels like a zen zone in the midst of a very hectic scene. The furniture style, color palette, and design pattern used throughout the property is very chic and elegant. From minimalistic glass and metal touches, to luxurious fabrics, everything about this hotel invites you to unwind and enjoy yourself. What better way to start your journey than by selecting the Platinum Suite at the Luxe. This spacious, one-bedroom
King Suite has windows all throughout, which means gorgeous night views of the city and the Hollywood sign. It includes a large living room appropriate for conducting a meeting, a kitchen/ bar area suitable for hosting a few friends, and a guest bathroom. The private bedroom is generous in space and amenities. In addition to a plushy bed, it includes a working desk station, a roomy closet, and a seating area ideal for reading. However, the best part of the Platinum Suite is the state-of-the-art bathroom. The mirror over the basin serves as a digital TV allowing you to watch any show from the vintage-style standing hot tub. A control panel gives you the 60
The Aquarium is a hidden gem. More than 100 beautiful species of marine life and vegetation give visitors a look of what is at stake if we do not help our environment. There, you can learn about the “Heal The Bay” initiative, conservationism, and endangered water wonders unique to Santa Monica.
freedom to turn on the rain shower and choose the temperature saving you from doing it manually, and a dedicated makeup area makes it easy to set up beauty supplies and hair tools without having to take over the sink space. The suite is so accommodating that you will find yourself ordering room service non-stop. The Nixon Global Kitchen and Patio Lounge at the Luxe City Center Hotel is the ideal place to get together before a concert or basketball game, or assemble professional conferences or corporate gatherings. The rooftop outdoor lounge overlooks the city, given you a picture perfect angle of L.A in a fashionable atmosphere. It is a gorgeous space for weddings, romantic dates, and to grab a few crafted cocktails. Go for a delicious Downtown Moscow Mule garnished with freshly-made Citrus Ginger foam. The food is fantastic as well, so there is no need to leave the bar craving some yummy treats. There are some great options, but some of the ones I recommend the most are the pork belly tacos, ahi tuna poke with sriracha, the short rib sliders, and the Scottish salmon. The Luxe City Center Hotel is close to some of L.A’s most famous attractions including the Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Microsoft Theater, The Grammy Museum at L.A Live, ESPN Zone, and the Convention Center. Nonetheless, if you have extra time, The Griffith Observatory is worth visiting. Known for the stunning architecture in which it was designed, the park by itself offers a broad landscape of the city. Considered an icon in the U.S, the planetarium is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood 61
and it gives some of the finest views of The Hollywood Sign. No worries, this must-visit attraction is open to anyone free of charge, giving locals and tourists a place to learn about the cosmos and feel closer to the stars.
Time To Relax And Soak On The Sun Not everything in Los Angeles revolves around movies and paparazzis. If your plans are geared towards a time away from noise, or to slow down by the water, then the Marina Del Rey Marriott Hotel is a great place to start your journey. Idyllically situated near the Los Angeles airport, this property has everything you need for a peaceful vacation without sacrificing entertainment. The suites have views overlooking the bay, making it a great spot for sunrise salutations and romantic sunsets.
The sophisticated lobby area includes a restaurant bar with seating spaces where you can enjoy a few drinks, or a meal, in a casual yet refined ambience. The Sinder Lounge at the Marina Del Rey Marriott has a classy outdoor area where live music can be enjoyed under the night sky. The décor is “Coastal Chic” bringing the laidback L.A vibe to the resort. They are masters at mixing Moscow Mules, infusing them with cucumbers, peach and basil or jalapeños, so make sure to select one of those. One of the best things of staying at Marina Del Rey Marriott is how close it is from Venice Beach and Santa Monica, giving you ample opportunities to visit these popular destinations, and plan enjoyable activities in the area. The Santa Monica Pier is the epitome of fun during the day and in the evening.
The Pacific Park on the boardwalk is a kid-friendly zone where adults and children can ride on the roller-coaster and get on the solar-powered Ferris wheel. Another interesting feature is The Looff Hippodrome Carousel and the Trapeze School of New York, all which can be visited while admiring the views of the water. Once you are done, head over to Third Street Promenade. The outdoor mall is a go-to for hearing undiscovered musical talents and doing some serious shopping. Venice Beach is another must-see. This hot spot for adventurers and water sports fans has some of the most delightful dining experiences in the area. Keeping it aligned with the hipster atmosphere and diverse culture, the restaurants have integrated fusions from all parts of the world, making their specialties very interesting and delicious. You can find Japanese mixed with Cuban, Mexican food with an Irish touch, and top of the line seafood. Head over to the beach for some paddle boarding, to Venice Breakwater for intense surfing, and stay for late night dancing and drinking at the pubs or clubs. There is so much more to do and so many more places to see. From a hike at Runyon Canyon Park during sunrise, taking selfies at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, watching a baseball game at Dodger Stadium, or celeb gazing at TCL Chinese Theater, to having an all-luxury experience in Beverly Hills, whatever it is you wish to do, Los Angeles will offer it to you!
